I definitely agree, to be honest I can't think of many of the Yakuza 1 and 2 references but the ones in 3 and 4 are pretty in your face. like Ryoko Hazuki (BTW thanks to YS for finding this)

I never knew there was Shenmue references in Virtua Cop 2! Are those Shenmue pictures from the original arcade version or is it a port? Virtua Cop came out around 96' or '97 if I recall. If so, it's amazing that so much Shenmue artwork and promotion was being done even before the game came out.

Might've been from the port, Sega is pretty good about changing the signs/references in the background when they re-release stuff.

If I'm not mistaken Project Berkley foes pretty far back into the saturn days so its possible it was just a piece of art that made its way into another game.

(..wow its been a long time since I talk Shenmue stuff)

Project Berky started development in 1994. Originally Virtua Fighter RPG. Not until Dreamcast it was changed. So yeah it was pretty far in development for Saturn when canned for DC simply because Saturn was losing the market and the sexy new project Katana was in development.

There's what sounds like an early version of Shenhua's theme in Fighter's Megamix.

It's probably inconsequential, but I remember seeing this pic of GTA3 back in the day before it came out and thought it might have been influenced by Shenmue.

If anyone wants Streets of Rage Remake, I'll upload it to Megaupload. Let me know if you do. Soon, too, before I forget.

There's also this one , maybe?

It's Tokyo Beat Down for the DS. I think it is anyway. Haven't played enough of the game to have seen this.

I love tokyo beat down but I don't think that is a reference at all. Ryo is dressed in such a generic look a million games and films could be a reference. That look been around for 60 years.

Those are fantastic! Never really think to look for little incidental details like that,I can't really think of a [Sega or otherwise] title that features something like that. D:

I remember playing Virtua Fighter 5 on Xbox 360 and I remember on the quest mode or whatever it's called fighting Lau and he had the username "Lan Di". Lau has a lot of similarities to Lan Di since they both use the Tiger Swallow Style and look similar.

Thats because when Shenmue was a VF RPG Lau was the bad guy. Lan Di is pretty much him in a different skin.

And i belive the Lan Di on VF5 was from a fan suggestion or something?
