Shenmue Dojo

I couldnt decide on an image to get from the franchise, so i just settled for the actual Japanese script of Shenmue, which you see at the top of the Dojo. I took it, edited it to scale and also filled it black. I got it tattoed 2 days ago on my forearm. I absolutely love it, and to be honest its my favourite tattoo. It also goes well with all my others, so all in all i am happy, and in a way, proud of it too.

Congrats Peter, it looks totally awesome! I've always loved the way Shenmue looks written in Katakana like that. You are now no longer Ireland's biggest Shenmue fan, you just may be the worlds biggest Shenmue fan!

I've been considering - and probably will, within in a year or two - getting the Phoenix/Dragon art from the Shenmue 2 menu tatted, probably on chest to the right or left.

I think the image is awesome and means a lot beyond the game itself. I gotta dwell on it a bit longer.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but you will find it hard to find a good artist who will put his name to that piece. The simple way of putting it, is that there are size ratios and dimensions that tattoos work in, and an artist will more than likely say thay due to the small gaps etc in that piece, it will not makea good tattoo and that over time the gaps will close and distort the image.

it would need to be done to scale, and basicially, it would need to be huge to retain the detail. Im taking a full back job.

This isnt gospel btw, it will be your money and you can choose what to get, but it would matter to me who exactly is doing my ink.

Wow, imho pinnacle of nerdiness - but big kudos for having the guts to get a video game name as a tattoo, i think few people would dare that. Now you never have to prove your courage in any other way.

I've always been thinking of getting a tattoo of either something from Shenmue, DBZ, of FoTNS. It would be a custom design of course, as I have quite a few friends who are great artists and would draw something up for me. It would probably be Ryo in the foreground with either a dragon or phoenix as a backdrop, with the shenmue logo underneath it all. Just a rough idea I've always had, and extra money for a broke college student is always tough to come by, but of the 1 or maybe 2 tattoos I would get, one of them would definitley be Shenmue related.

If I get a game tat, I like it to be like that. An inside thing only me and a select few people would know about.

Haahaa yep. When people ask me what it says i say its pronounced "Shen Mue". When they ask what it is i say its a huge tree found in Southern China, which watches over the rare Shenfa flower. So in its essence, it means "Watcher/Protector"

After i say that and the person goes "wow thats soo cool" i quitely mutter that its also fictious information from a game which shares the name of one said tree. But i say that so quietly under my breath that it cannot be heard by human ears.

Unless the person i know is a bit of a gamer and i just tell them "Yea its Shenmue from the Dreamcast", to which they reply "ahhh man that game is fucking awesome!!!"

And if they say otherwise you deck them one, at least I hope so.
