Funny thing is, a number of the games they've put up for vote simply aren't games that could be considered the best ever, especially the ones in this particular round. Shovel Knight, Fallout: New Vegas, BioShock Infinite, Splatoon, Borderlands 2, and Destiny? Sure, it's subjective, but the implications of these kinds of polls is akin to something definitive, thanks in no part to how limited it is. Where's Braid, Super Meat Boy, Street Fighter games, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater games, Tekken 3, DOOM, Counter-Strike, etc.? They've got some excellent games on there, for sure, but it's certainly a mixed bag of obvious contenders and the eyebrow-raising.
It's a pretty unfair competition, too. Obviously GTA V is going to win by sheer numbers, as opposed to the actual quality of the game itself, and putting it up against Shenmue is utterly stupid because a large percentage of those who have played and will vote for GTA V have probably never even heard of Shenmue. Mario fans will flock straight to Super Mario RPG, too. And what business does Shovel Knight have going up against San Andreas?
Why not just have a straight-up selection instead of the whole [game] vs. [game] thing?
