New article up on GameSpot. Provides clarification, which is great for getting the word out to the masses and diffusing ill-founded hysteria.

Anyone with a Gamespot account should upvote this and help it reach the "popular" section of the gamespot front page.

I can't imagine why anyone would think Sony would get money from the kickstarter. Especially since sony will be putting money into marketing and probably some other small things anyways. makes little sense for sony to even want it...

Gamespot just tweeted the article out. Re-tweeting it like wild will help it reach more people and show up near top of twitter results.

EDIT: Article just retweeted by Shuhei Yoshida to his 181k followers. A good sign that this is the official word from Sony.

There is an article over at Polygon as well... But looking at the comments, it seems hopeless:

Ben Kuchera at Polygon has been trolling Shenmue harder than anyone.

Polygon goes wherever the clicks are, and their Gawker-esque commentators just like drama. Nothing to be done with them, they are what they are.

That's really disgusting, it's sad some people just have such a negative outlook towards this game. And why? What's not to be happy about?

Best not to get too distracted by sites like Polygon, they just troll for clicks.

The GameSpot article is a big deal. Anything GameSpot posts basically gets copied and posted all over the internet on other sites that more or less rip off their content. Things like that can definitely set the tone.

Even the Polygon article isn't negative, just their usual condescending comment section. Most people just glance at the headlines and get a sense from that.

The vibe is definitely changing and I think we are now in the "backlash to the backlash" stage of the internet hype cycle. This is good news!

EDIT: When I google Shenmue now, in the "top news section" that shows whenever you search, the visible articles are the Gamespot and Engadget articles about clarifying the funding. This is a very good change from when it was concern trolling from Forbes.

New article from Gamasutra (popular site with over 200k Twitter followers) continues the positive trend of clarification coverage.

Yu Suzuki sheds light on Sony's involvement with Shenmue 3 - Gama Sutra

This is the equivalent of saying Sony is giving us money because for every dollar Sony gives YS NET via marketing and production values, its a dollar that as backers we don't have to add to the pot.

Exactly. If someone funds $29, they've bought Shenmue III! What's to even think about??

Wait til 2017 to "buy" and you'll still have to pay anyway... :rotflmao:

Well, the only difference and concerns people might have is, what if this all falls flat on its face and we don't get Shenmue 3 after all? Funding a Kickstarter is always a risk. At least with a pre-order you don't actually pay for the game until it is dispatched (or in your hands if you do it through physical store). And if you pay a deposit, you have entered into a contract where you are obligated to receive that game or get the deposit back.
