I thought with the release of many new images and with teasers starting to appear, there should be an official thread to analyse and speculate on the things we've been shown.

So, I guess I will start it off with this picture of what is assumed to be the town of Chobu, China. Please offer any corrections to anything I got wrong.



The Green area looks like it may be the Lodging district and the place where you'll sleep.
The Black area looks to be Bailu Village off in the distance?
The Blue area is a Commercial district, with markets, restaurants, shops, etc.



At the Yellow area is a gate that leads into a Temple District at the end of the Commercial district
The Red area is a mountain and forest that stretches around the Commercial District (Blue) and reaches behind the Temples District (yellow)



Yeah, I know all the colored squiggly lines make me look like some conspiracty theorist!

Also, again apologies for anything that's incorrect.

One thing's for certain. This game is much bigger than we've first anticipated. With Bailu in the distance, the area shown in these two screenshots alone are likely just as big if not bigger than the entirety of Shenmue 1.

Yanglin? Never heard of it. The closest to Yanglin I could find in China are Yangling and Yanglinxiang.

Switch did the translation. It means: Chapter 3 Guilin

Dojo user Sergeynest made a thread viewtopic.php?f=37&t=51079&p=1159172#p1159158 which theorizes that Chobu in Shenmue 3 is greatly inspired by the ancient Chinese town of Fenghuang and made a youtube video about it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cq7uB65VWL0

I did some sleuthing of my own and it's clear that the geography, architecture, shops, temples and general landscapes are very similar to what is displayed in the latest released Shenmue 3 images.

It is known as the "Phoenix City"
"'Fenghuang' is Chinese for 'Phoenix', the mythical bird of good omen and longevity that is consumed by fire to be re-born again from the flames. Phoenix Ancient Town is so called as legend has it that two of these fabulous birds flew over it and found the town so beautiful that they hovered there, reluctant to leave."

The Fenghuang connection is a bit old, unfortunately.

Some cheese's and wine is quote a bit old too, doesn't stop people from losing their god damn minds over how much they love it.

Oh sure. Fenghuang looks cool as fuck and it's kind of perfect for Shenmue to interpret.

Looking at the trailer looks like the game is set in China or something asian, I'll keep the investigation.
