What year will Shenmue III come out

Agreed,

At this point in time based on the latest things Sega execs have said in regaurds to what direction they want to take the company as well as Yu saying "not yet" with head bowed I think it highley unlikely the game is do to start production soon.

My guess is if Sega stays profitable for a few more years they'll give Shenmue the go ahead but by that time the new consoles will be in development and Sega would have to chose between putting Shenmue on a 4 or 5 year old machine or waiting an extra year for a system launch.

The absolute earliest we'd see it (realistically speaking) would be late 2005 to early 2006, assuming everything is greenlighted, a budget is assigned and a dev team is assembled promptly.

I'm saying 2005. And quite frankly I don't think it will ever be released if we get to 2007 or 2008 with no news. Shenmue isn't a series that'll just be idle for 10 years and then have a sequel released. It is a continuing saga, unlike Outrun or something along those lines, where it can rest for two decades with no continuity between the games. Most of the time when there is a huge gap between games in a series, it is more of a REMAKE than a TRUE SEQUEL. Shenmue III has to come out while the current generation of gamers remember it. Kids who are 5 or 6 right now won't care about Shenmue III at all (other than my nephew, who I've been sowhing the games to since he learned to talk, haha), especially if they never played the original 2.
