Never thought of it that way. Shenmue's Kowloon wasn't particularly as grounded as real Kowloon was.

Aren't they different kowloons tho?

I'm talking more about seedy Chinese areas tho, kowloon reminded me of some of the darker places my friend dragged me to while in Hong Kong, here in NY theres a part of Chinatown EXACTLY like that as well and in Puerto Rico there a small Asian area of San Juan that has the same feel and general look. Y4's Little Asia has that same feel.

Kowloon Shenmue is the walled city that was shut down in 1993. There is still a Kowloon but just remants of the walled city

Yep.
One of the AI enemies (character Pai Chan) in Quest mode is named Shenhua (or am I wrong in this particular part? Just defeated her for the 100th time a month ago or something and can't remember. Anyway...), her punch line in the versus screen is that phrase.


The Streets of Rage Remake (fan) has a stage with a LOT of Shenmue references. Can't elaborate, couldn't get the game before Sega took it down.

The docks

One thing that annoyed me about the docks was it just being that small area. It only opened up once in a boss battle and that was it.
