A fourteen year old girl(fifteen if you do the "Fangmei's Birthday" event),Fangmei is cheerful and likes to help everyone, and because of this, she is loved by everyone. Fangmei was adopted by the temple people of Taoism, so she works there to repay their kindess for adopting her. She is respectful of her elders, but will also speak her mind if she sees that something is wrong, although she is neither arrogant nor spiteful. Fangmei likes to keep herself busy, taking care of people but goes overboard if someone catches her fancy.

• 5:00pm: Goes back inside Man Mo Temple to pray
• 6:00pm: Leaves Man Mo Temple, and heads to Man Mo Greengrocers in the Lucky Charm Qr. She reaches there at 7.
• 8:00pm-11:30pm: Heads to Da Yuan Apartments(Xiuying's room)and sweeps.

Cool J loves rap music, and his boom box is never more than an arm's length away. He appears to be intimidating, but he is actually weak in a fight. When he realizes that a fighter is pretty tough, he runs away. Cool J and Wong are good friends in the Heavens. They sometimes hang out. His real name is Chrys James.

Note: I know in the PAL version he is called Cool Z, but in the original JAP Shenmue 2, he was called Cool J. He had to be renamed in Europe, as there is a popular rapper called LL Cool J, so to avoid legal complications, he was renamed Cool Z. However, I refer to him as Cool J(I follow the original Japanese Shenmue names and such). I found out on Shenmue.com that his real name is Chrys James, suggesting he is perhaps American?

Even though he loves everything American and calls himself Sam, his real name is "Sunjie Liu". He has a strong sense of camaraderie and often saves his fellows when they are in trouble. Sam is confident of his skills, but he carries a special collapsible nightstick just in case.

Larry is second only to Ren in fighting ability. He tries to keep cool and calm, but the truth is that he is quick to start a fight. Larry used to act as a lone wolf, but he now works for Ren after he was beaten up by Ren in a one-on-one fight. He admires those who are stronger than him and is broad-minded enough that he can accept his defeat when it is inevitable. His real name is Ligong Luo.

Note: I can only assume that, like Sam, Ligong loves everything American, so calls himself Larry :)

Baolai, along with his wife Yueying and daughter Zhenji, runs the Lai Lai Eatery in Worker's Pier. He recently remarried with Yueying, but does not have much of a relationship with his daughter Zhenji...

Zhenji is the daughter of the family-run Lai Lai Eatery in Worker's Pier. It has been four years since her mother remarried, but Zhenji is still not doing well with her parents. She wants to improve the relationship, so she tries to be open...

Ali runs the Fu Hoi Diner in Worker's Pier with her daughter May. May is considering getting married to her childhood friend to make Ali's life easier.

May is a stunning girl who attracts the attention of customers at Fu Hoi Diner in Worker's Pier. She works together with her mother, but May is thinking of getting married to her childhood friend in the near future to give her mother an easier life. Her real name is Meiming Yu.

Gongjue is obsessed with collecting capsule toys. He is often seen trying them around Worker's Pier, trying to complete the various sets. He is also seen wandering around Wan Chai selling his unwanted figures to the pawnshops. He considers Ryo to be his rival in trying to collect them all.

Guangyan is the twin brother of Guangji Wang, the delivery boy at the Ajiichi Chinese Restaurant back in Dobuita. They look almost exactly alike. Guangyan lives in the Yan Tin Apartments in the South Carmain Qr, and is often seen hanging around the third floor.

Xiaoqin helps out her grandfather with his shop, the Sunny Capital Pharmacy in the South Carmain Qr. For her age, she is very polite and is very helpful to customers and those looking for directions.

Zizai is a street musician. He plays music with his Chinese violin with his wife Xiangtian. They often play at Worker's Pier and the Golden Shopping Mall.

This cool rapper can often be found playing darts in Bar Swing in Worker's Pier and at the Liverpool Bar in the White Dynasty Qr. He believes that all Japanese people are called either "Suzuki-san", "Tanaka-san", or "Sato-san"....

Fenglin can be found playing darts in both Fortune's Eatery in Fortune's Pier, and at the Pine Game Arcade in the Golden Qr.

Baiyang is an honourary member of the Hong Kong Darts Association. He seems to be a very snobbish person. He is a poor loser, often blaming the noise of the shop or the darts themselves for his poor performance. Most of the time though, Baiyang wins easily.

An avid darts fan, this old man can be found playing "the great British invention" at both Bar Swing in Worker's Pier, and at the Liverpool Bar in the White Dynasty Qr.

Chengyou is a huge baseball fan, but also enjoys a game of darts. He can often be found playing in Fortune's Eatery in Fortune's Pier, and at the Pine Game Arcade in the Golden Qr.

Anan is helping with the construction of Paradise Tea Manor in the Green Market Qr, the shop is yet to open. Anan seems to be a very lazy person. On one occassion he even made Ryo straighten the shop's sign for him.

Note: I found out the name of the shop after asking people the directions to Green Market's Pawnshop :)

She is a Canadian student learning kung fu. Eileen is a close friend of Fangmei's She is well versed in the martial arts and can often be seen practicing at Pigeon Park. She also takes part in the fighting tournaments at the Pine Game Arcade.

Izumi is a Japanese student who has moved to Hong Kong. As they are both Japanese and the same age, she and Ryo become friends. She works at the Tomato Convenience Store in the Golden Qr. She may not look it, but she is quite skilled in the martial arts and sometimes takes part in the fighting tournaments held at the Pine Game Arcade.

Taiyuan owns the Healthy Meat Shop in the Green Market Qr. He and the butcher next door, Wentai, are constantly arguing and they are always talking bad about the other. They both have a strong sense of competition.

Haohui is a mean drunk that annoys everyone who makes contact with him. No one wants to get involved with him except for his brother. Haohui has an evil face, but it's really just all talk. He is not that tough.

Bangzhuo has a sly personality. He is also a vengeful person who is merciless. He earns a living by blackmailing, sponging off others, and gambling with his older brother. Bangzhuo uses a knife rather than his fists, but the knife is usually used to threaten his opponents.

Jiangyu is Xiaomei's mother. Jiangyu is forever grateful after Ryo helped her daughter on the ship to Hong Kong. The two came to Hong Kong to open their shop, First Class Tailor, in the Lucky Charm Qr.

Ailian is a young girl who opened a fortune-telling business next to the Freestay Lodge. Her family have been fortunetellers for decades starting with her grandmother. She does good business with young men because of her charming appearance and her remarkable fortune-telling. Ailian, however, gets annoyed by men who pick up on her.

Note: At the beginning of the game, Ailian can be found fortunetelling near the Freestay Lodge. After that, she is always found fortunetelling at the Hermit Fortunetellers in the Green Market Qr. When you go to Kowloon, you can find her at Blackness Fortuntellers, which is on the first floor of the Dancing Dragon Bldg in the Stand Qr.

Jimenez is a Mexican who arm wrestles in Worker's Pier, in a small warehouse just after the Wharf. He also arm wrestles at Kowloon's "Fighting Place", along with several other competitors. He posseses incredible strength.

Guston Hymer is a former rugby player, he now arm wrestles in Worker's Pier in a small alley.

Muhammed is a street performer. He is often seen fire breathing at the Golden Shopping Mall. He also arm wrestles in Kowloon.

Pengcui is the waitress in purple apron at Cafe Anna, in Kowloon's Thousand White Qr. The cafe seems to be popular with the people of Kowloon.

Loufei is the waitress in green apron at Cafe Anna, in Kowloon's Thousand White Qr. The cafe seems to be popular with the people of Kowloon.

Haisan is the bookie of a Lucky Hit Stand in Kowloon's Dragon St. He gives out rare moves scrolls to winners.

Haoyi is the bookie of the Lucky Hit Museum, which is a row of many Lucky Hit stands in the middle of Kowloon's Dimsum Qr. It has just about all the different versions of the game.

Lianfei is the chief of the workers in the Thousand White Warehouse in Kowloon. She seems to be a friendly person.

Congo is a huge Mongolian who works at the Thousand White Warehouse in Kowloon. He seems to be a little eccentric, always talking in the third person...

Baifang is the teacher of the many children in the Moon Child Orphanage, which is on the eighth floor of the Moon Child Bldg in Kowloon.

Hongji is one of the orphans at Moon Child Orphanage. He seems to be quite a bratty child.

Zhenwu is the owner of a small stand in the Stand Qr which sells children's toys.

Ren Yan is apparently, "the last wild man on Earth". He is incapable of speech, but is a very strong fighter. He can be seen Street Fighting at Beverly Hills Wharf.

Agon works as a street performer. He performs at the Golden Shopping Mall, and also takes part in Arm Wrestling at Worker's Pier, and Street Fighting at Kowloon, along with Nadam and Uzun.

Uzun works as a street performer. He performs at the Golden Shopping Mall, and also takes part in Arm Wrestling at Worker's Pier, and Street Fighting at Kowloon, along with Nadam and Agon.

Hangquin may be an old man, but he is a skilled fighter and specializes in the Iron Thrust style. He can be found street fighting at the Former Factory Site in Kowloon's Thousand White Qr.

This man specializes in the "Acrobat Style", and has been described as being as agile and nimble as a monkey. He is very hard to catch in battle. He is often found street fighting in the Thousand White Qr in Kowloon.

Dongshan is a huge man who specializes in the Iron Head Style. One blow from his head can send his opponent falling to the ground. He can be found street fighting in the Construction Base in the Thousand White Qr in Kowloon.

Zhouhong has only one eye-this is where is weakness lies while street fighting. He can be found at Star Gazing Point in Kowloon's Stand Qr.

Wenguan is a very agile fighter-it is near impossible to hit him. He can be found street fighting at Small Dragon Garden in Kowloon's Stand Qr.

Greg, a former pro-wrestler, is one of Kowloon's three elite street fighters. He is found in the Blue Dragon Garden. Before Ryo came along, he was undefeated.

Notes: Didja notice that Greg's moves are very similar to those of Wolf's from Virtua Fighter?(he is also a wrestler) He even does the Giant Swing! :) This could be a remnant of when the game was Virtua Fighter RPG...

Rod is one of the three elite street fighters in Kowloon. He specialises in Pancrantium. Ryo was the first person to defeat Stunt.

Chunyan is one of Kowloon's three elite street fighters. She is found in the Black Heaven Bldg. She specializes in Jeet Kune Do. In battle, Chunyan is merciless. If her opponent loses, she will throw them off the ring, plummeting to their death. Ryo was the first person to defeat her, however Ryo spared her life.

Notes: Didja notice that Chunyan's moves are very similar to those of Sarah's from Virtua Fighter?(she also specialises in Jeet Kune Do) This could be a remnant of when the game was Virtua Fighter RPG...

Baihu-sama is a very mysterious person who seems to be with the Chiyoumen. He battles challengers in the Big Ox Bldg., the basement in the Yellow Head Bldg. He specializes in the Tiger Swallow Style. He says very little, and it is not clear who he is or who he works for.

Notes: Hm--could Baihu somehow be connected to Zhao Sunming?(He was the master of the Tiger Swallow style). Maybe Zhao was his teacher? We may not know who he is or what he wants, but I have a feeling we'll see Baihu again-"Hazuki...I'll remember that name..." Hm--I wonder why we're not allowed to know his age?

Dou Niu is the leader of the Yellowhead, a huge criminal organization whose territory is Kowloon. Due to his large size, he is quite a formidable fighter, but very slow. He shows no mercy and will not hesitate in killing anyone who gets in his way.

Yuan is Dou Niu's "partner", his right-hand man. Yuan is a very odd person, for example one of his hobbies is collecting knives. He often blackmails Kowloon's shopkeepers, as they are all afraid of him and Dou Niu. He is a very clumsy person, and doesn't fight with his hands very often, he is sometimes even armed with a chainsaw. Yuan hates all "disgusting things".

Notes: You'll notice that I have referred to Yuan as "he", rather than "she". Well, that's because in the orignal Japanese version, Yuan was a man in drag!! The voice actor was a man putting on a high voice. In the PAL version, however, Sega of Europe thought this was unsuitable, so they changed the voice to that of a woman's, and all "he" references were changed to "she" in the subtitles, however if you know Japanese, you should be able to hear they are indeed saying "he" when referring to Yuan. In fact, in the Japanese version, when Ryo is trying to describe Yuan to the kids outside of the Moonchild Orphanage, he is actually saying "Wears make-up like a woman, talks feminine...". To the informant kid inside the orphanage, Hongji, Ryo describes as "Dresses like a woman, talks like a woman, but has a male voice. Hmm I'm in trouble." Of course this was changed in the PAL version. Also, Ren has a line that is quite amusing--when he and Ryo are being chased by Yuan, he says "Persistent bastard, ain't he?"! (Thanks to Kiyuu for the information) On a side note, when Dou Niu says "What the hell did you do to my partner!!!?"(referring to Yuan), he is actually saying "What the hell did you do to my cuddly love thing!!!?"

Kai is a street musician who plays in Dragon St. He pretends to be blind for reasons known only to himself. He was a friend of Iwao's, who came to Kowloon twenty years ago and met Kai. Kai was very shocked when he heard of Iwao's death. He lives in the Moon Child Bldg. and likes to train his moves in darkness, as he believes that the "mind's eye" should be used to see rather than his own eyes.

Zhang is a man who works closely with Zhu Yuan Da, and acts as his aide. He is kidnapped by the Yellowheads twice, who are looking for Zhu, but Ryo manages to rescue him both times.

Zhu was the owner of Five Stars Corp, a big trading company in Hong Kong.(and he also wrote a book on martial arts, the Wulinshu)However, the company became bankrupt. Also, the Chiyoumen and Yellowhead were after him.(presumably the Chiyoumen wanted to find him as they assumed he had the Phoenix Mirror) Zhu went into hiding in the Ghost Hall Bldg, a run-down building in Kowloon. Zhu sent a letter to Iwao warning him Lan Di was coming to kill him, but the letter arrived too late....

Yanjing is a kid who lives in Langhuishan, Guilin. He is disliked by the other children as he is so smart, and is given the nickname "Glasses".
