Very interesting thought about controlling Shenhua. I wonder if it could be done in a sort of Prologue/flashback form.

I first played Shenmue sometime around 2001 when I was 4, so my whole life has pretty much happened!(I know, I'm young for a Shenmue fan )
But this year I'm going to Uni to study Film and Media and I'll just be starting my 3rd year by the time Shenmue comes out. Crazy!

In response to the toy capsules, maybe it's possible that we could get some Playstation characters?
Although to be fair, I doubt the companies who develop mainly for Sony (eg. Naughty Dog) will really care about Shenmue enough to let their characters be used in the game . But it's a thought.
