Re: The Olympics in "Ryo"

Ryo and Delin would be unstoppable in the 2 man, 100kg crate carrying.

I'd certainly rather watch that than synchronized swimming.

Re: Demul v0.7 alpha build 160816 - Updated 16/08/16

This version has voices files from the Xbox version of Shenmue II injected into the Dreamcast game since English-dubbing wasn't officially implemented. This process resulted a few audio-sync glitches here and there throughout the game including the opening scene. This has nothing to do with the emulator since it perfectly runs the official PAL and Japanese versions of Shenmue II without this very audio-sync glitch ...

I suspected as much. Thanks for the info!

Shenmue II: The Movie

https://youtu.be/y1cZhDErMRA

https://youtu.be/zOFvWCCAWSg

It's finally time to break my silence on this matter. I've been working on Shenmue II: The Movie for almost two months now, and recently finished recording disc 2 of the game. I've set Christmas of this year as the deadline, but hopefully I'll be finished much sooner, and will have time to do some kind of promotion. If you have any ideas and or would like to help, feel free to PM me.

Shenmue I and II are much more different on a technical level than I expected, and with changes come new challenges. In some ways, Shenmue II: The Movie will be superior to its prequel, but in other ways I've had to make compromises. I can't go too into depth about this right now, but I will say that despite what's seen in the trailer, fights have to be done in 4:3 since the camera does not work properly in 16:9. That being said, I am once again using the 16:9 Auto Fixer created by Dojo members Esppiral , Masterchan777 , and Sappharad , and for the most part it works wonderfully (naturally, there's glitches that can't be helped).
As a result of that poll I ran in the old thread, and for consistency's sake, the movie will be in English thanks to the fantastic mod created by Sm1th . I've played through Shenmue II a few times in the past using the mod, and initially I was worried that I'd run into a plethora of sync issues during conversations. There have been some, but thankfully it's been very limited so far, and nothing I can't work around.

I don't have an estimate for run time yet, but I think it'll be shorter than the 5 hour marathon that was Shenmue: The Movie Remastered . This time, I'm trying to limit myself on the number of secrets and extras being shown. My ultimate goal is for newcomers to actually play the games themselves, since there's so much they'll never experience simply by watching. However, that doesn't mean the movie will strictly contain story elements. Similarly to the first project, I've made it a point to include a variety of gameplay features and cutscenes.

That's about it for now. If you liked the trailer, please share it, and as always, if you'd like to help out with the project in any way, send me a PM. Thanks!

Re: Random Shenmue Thoughts

If Shenmue 3 is to succeed it must remove all bullshit like this

https://i.ytimg.com/vi/rt87ApHfuM4/maxresdefault.jpg

And this

http://thisismyjoystick.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/Forklifts-ahoy1.jpg

You've clearly missed the point of the entire series. The Shenmue games are about Ryo's transition to manhood, and his growth as a martial artist. Things like the forklift job and crate and book carrying are there to teach the player (and Ryo) about patience and discipline. I'd bet you had a lot of trouble catching the leaves at Man Mo Temple.

Re: Favorite minor character

So by minor you mean someone that's not important to the main story, right? No "supporting" characters?

Mine would have to be Yamagishi-san for Shenmue I, and Delin for Shenmue II. Fun fact- Delin's grunts actually have a purpose. If you hear him grunt, you know it's safe to press "up" because he's not going to call out "left" or "right."

Re: Review The Last Game You Beat

Resident Evil 4 (Gamecube)

I got to chapter 5-2 out of 5-5 several years ago, but hadn't managed my inventory very well and gave up due to a lack of ammo and items. I recently picked it back up with a new save specifically because I remembered that you can use an old Mauser handgun (Red 9 in-game). I liked RE4 before, but damn do I love it now. If nothing else, this game does body dismemberment better than anything I've ever played. The visuals, the sound effects- nothing comes close besides maybe Killing Floor. It's certainly convenient that the best weapons in the game are also the most effective at bursting heads open. The story is nothing to get excited about, but the characters are very well fleshed out, and in my opinion, only hindered by their classically corny Capcom dialogue. The game is more so on the challenging side, but highly rewarding and filled with a plethora of gameplay elements.

Re: Will Shenmue 3 take advantage of the PS4 Pro?

I don't think a simple 4K mode would add anything to the cost of development. In fact I fully expect the PC version to be playable at 4k and other resolutions.

A different thing would be adding additional effects or producing higher-quality textures and models. I don't think they'll do that.

I personally would really like if they supported HDR with the game. I have no idea if it adds to the development costs or not, but HDR seems like the kind of improvement that fits a game like Shenmue, where ambience and beauty is so important. And is the kind of innovative technology that Yu Suzuki has always liked to push...

I agree. Typically with games you have a base "internal" resolution which, if copied for the displayed resolution, will look the best. Downscaling (along with some form of filtering) is necessary to display lower resolutions, and of course upscaling is needed for higher resolutions. With enough upscaling you get noticeable "aliasing" on texture edges. If the internal resolution for Shenmue III is high enough (it should be at least 2560x1440 on PC), then there won't be any issues besides a tiny amount of blurriness for sub-4K players.

http://images.eurogamer.net/articles//a/8/6/7/8/5/1/Saboteur_Aliasing_000.jpg.jpg

You can mitigate aliasing with the post-processing effect, anti-aliasing, but you lose some crispness in the image since you're basically padding on extra pixels to sharp edges.

http://psx-scene.com/forums/content/attachments/29286d1311813287-fxaa001.jpg/

I doubt anyone needed that explanation, but I felt like typing it up anyway.

Higher quality gfycat link

As of today, I am totally finished with the recording workload for the project. With just over 2 months left, I should have plenty of time to get the editing done and finalize the movie before December 3rd.

Why December 3rd?

Now that I have sufficient bandwidth, I plan on doing a live premiere of Shenmue II: The Movie that day in order to help promote Shenmue III and the #SaveShenmueHD campaign. To keep it "timezone neutral," the screening likely start in the early afternoon for those of us in the US. The movie will be uploaded to YouTube some time afterward, probably close to Christmas like I said in the trailer.

With Ziming's permission, I will be streaming the event on the Dojo Twitch channel .

I hope to see some of y'all there!

In the 70 man free battle, Ryo's model is swapped for a very low-detail one in order to reduce hardware strain. Similarly, (in Shenmue II, at least) characters' hands switch from high-detail ones with movable fingers to low-detail ones that are one solid piece. I will never unsee any of this stuff.

Re: Review The Last Game You Beat

http://images.christianpost.com/full/88178/uncharted-4-a-thiefs-end.jpg

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End

Story
As someone who loves this series, playing through this supposed final game with Nathan Drake was quite special.
The story is incredibly thick in dialogue both in whats going on the present but also in what's happened in past games. Cut scene's in general are very frequent. This is the most story heavy game in the series now. Unfortunately gameplay frequency with actual gunplay encounters suffers because of this, but thankfully the story is very good. Some chapters though, do feel like filler build up. Character personalities are really fleshed out because of this though. It just feels slower than previous games, but its a beautiful kind of slow.
Pirate treasure hunting in libertalia finding Captain Avery and Tomas Tew was probably the most interesting next to the original Sir Frances Drake story from Uncharted 1.

Gameplay
As I said above, actual gunplay encounters feel few and far between. In comparison to previous games, this has the least amount of gunplay. I feel Uncharted 2 had the most amount of gunplay, followed by 1 and then 3 with 4 dead last.
Thankfully when you do have encounters they feel great as always. The guns themselves are more satisfying to shoot, the cover system is reliable enough, the enemies while not challenging on moderate difficulty provide a decent challenge when you're in actual gun combat.

However they introduce way more stealth opportunities in 4. I feel it can be alittle Assasins Creed-ish at times which I never really wanted to have in an Uncharted game. Perhaps on Crushing mode it will feel better but on moderate its a cake walk when they let you stay covered and take out 20 men holding rocket launchers and heavy machine guns silently.

The world they created while still very linear, is abit more open feeling this time around. You sometimes have multiple paths to the same goal and that's a first for the series. I commend them on giving the illusion of choice here because it feels more like a open adventure.

Sound
I'm using the Wireless PS4 Gold headset with the virtual surround sound and official Uncharted 4 sound profile from the app. So when it comes to sound effects, music and environmental ambiance it all sounds great. Really the soundtrack is amazing. Those brass instruments and drums hit hard and its fucking brilliant.

Graphics
This is the premier graphical show case for the PS4. If you want to see what the best possible graphics are for a PS4 game right now, it's Uncharted 4. Not just in pixel count or anything, but the actual art direction that seeps through to the realism of the world. The sky's, mountain ranges, water, fire, explosions are eye candy on a great TV set. And the closer I sat to the TV the more detail I found. The animations for main characters in-game are also notable. Near the end of the game one of the characters has a sense of remorse and longing to turn the other direction away from Drake. You see that emotion and personality in his animations change as you progress running around with the character. Facial animations are on a new level too.

Multiplayer
The multiplayer is back to being more fun like Uncharted 2 was. 3 felt way too stiff and twitchy. 2 was a wild romp but pure and innocent. 4 feels right in-between there. BUT now we have all these COD style perks, Counter-Strike in-game store upgrades and special abilities. Magical abilities too...I think it's really over done at times and takes away from the pure and satisfying gunplay that's already there.
Now you can throw a big magical stone pillar at a group of people with heat seeking projectiles. You can call in side-kicks to do the fighting for you. You can teleport across the map to your team-mates. It's just abit too much at times. You can learn to adapt to these things and play around them, but in the end, you are killed by way more cheap stuff then an actual skilled gun battle.
I hope they introduce a new "classic" mode without all the magical perks and things.
Overall it's still very very fun to play and its definitely one of the best multiplayer games on PS4.

In the end, while its low on gunplay, heavy on cut scene's and story, it's my new favorite Uncharted game. So for me it's U4, U2, U1, then last is U3.
This game really gives a satisfying ending to the series we needed.

I give it a 4.2/5

Best thing about Uncharted 4 and this series being done or going to sleep is that Naughty Dog can now go on to making The Last of Us 2. I'm on standby for that announcement trailer to hopefully hit us next E3.

Re: SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT - Shenmue: The Movie Remastered

Looking good so far! I can potentially do titles and end cards when the time for them comes if you like?

That would great! At this point I don't what I'd want it to look like though. I was thinking of opening with the Shenhua prologue, then having a custom "title screen" per se that's similar to the original (the one I used as the thumbnail for the trailer), but obviously it would say Shenmue: The Movie . If it were animated that would be amazing, but a static background would be enough, and I could chroma key a flashing "press start" prompt over it. Immediately after that would be the iconic opening cutscene at the dojo.

Awesome! Really looking forward to seeing the finished work, man :)

If you're looking for someone to rework the subtitles from the original, I'd be happy to chip in. The grammar and such isn't exactly the best job out there.

Do you mean in-game? I haven't been using them so far, and I don't plan to. International subs for YouTube would be sweet though.

Is your loop custom or an AIO cooler? I'm honestly not sure what affect sitting for so long would have on it. I think its diff if its new in box, but after being used/heated up there's no telling. Scary! It could work perfectly fine for all I know though.

It'll be fine. The fluid that's used in those may not even be water, and if it is, it has anti-freeze and other chemicals in it which will prevent microbe growth. Regardless of how much time has passed, the liquid shouldn't be sludged up or anything.
