Re: Kickstarter Update #84 - Survey Info #1: Survey Started!

By the way, if you haven't received your survey yet (they're going out in waves) but don't want to wait, go to https://fulfillment.fangamer.com/kindling/shenmue3/survey_support, enter the email you used to pledge, and you'll get it immediately.

That ten days from within your pledge bit is for slacker backers pledging from now until the August 13th deadline when the service closes.

Re: Kickstarter Update #84 - Survey Info #1: Survey Started!

So does this mean Chai will be in Shenmue 3?! They wouldn't create his model just to be in a short video and nothing more right? RIGHT?!
Chai has been hinted at since basically the very early days of the Kickstarter. We got our confirmation last year when he was spotted on a slideshow of unfinished character models, also with Ren.

Re: Kickstarter Update #84 - Survey Info #1: Survey Started!

It's just a fun little thing to announce the surveys. It's not going to get the level of attention or polish as content that will make it to the actual game. Compare it with the (still unfinished, most likely) footage of the girl talking in the THQ Nordic video.

I think it was fine for what it was.

Re: Kickstarter Update #84 - Survey Info #1: Survey Started!

Hey, at the $100 mark, I should be expecting everything below it including the $80 call back to previous characters in-game right?
Yeah.

The reward description in the right-hand sidebar is inaccurate, because once you place it you can't change it, but the rewards information in the main body of the Kickstarter info is accurate and says the tier includes the World Telecom item.

Re: Kickstarter Update #84 - Survey Info #1: Survey Started!

I think this "100GB!" and "Broadband connection" shit will probably blow over either before, or when the game is actually out.

100GB is an approximation and will likely change, and the connection bit is probably just a way of saying "hey dummy, you need better internet than 56k to download this". Anybody screaming about Denuvo should probably go and take a look at other games Deep Silver has published on Steam. Out of all their released and upcoming titles, couldn't find a single one with Denuvo and I doubt they'll start with Shenmue III.

Re: Anyone disappointed with Shenmue 3 cartoon-like graphics

When other characters in Shenmue III look like this:

https://abload.de/img/4mlliieg0kt5.png

https://abload.de/img/l4qfq2uo6kzz.png

https://abload.de/img/ylwpa5h7tjt6.png

- singling out Mr Muscles as the definitive representation of Shenmue III's in-progress graphical design is a bit silly. These characters don't look like they're from Street Fighter 5, and I'd argue neither does Mr Muscles, really. He may be a big ugly bastard, but that's by design.

Ren's gang in Shenmue II, by comparison:

Even if AM2 were pushing for the most realistic graphics the world had ever seen with the originals, the manga-inspired design still runs through the characters pretty heavily, and I'd say that's more recognisable now that realism in graphics has moved on so considerably.

Re: 100 GB! S3 is not going to be small

Cutscenes are still going to be real time.

The only video requirements we know about are for the Shenmue/Shenmue II cinema shorts.

I suppose alternatively there might be a system that ties into your notebook where you can rewatch certain clues or plot points as video clips.

Either way 100GB should be taken as an approximation that's liable to change.

Re: closing Paypal site = Deepsilver promotional campaign st

Instinctively I want to say they'll be kicking the release date can down the road further than Gamescom, but two things make me think twice;

. The THQ Nordic rep was fairly direct in saying the next time they talk about the game's scheduling it'll be with a release date. Sounds pretty likely they are approaching a point where they could pin a date on the game.

. The short survey period does make me wonder if they'll announce something before the Sept 30th deadline, so people can give their shipping addresses confidently knowing they'll still be living there in X amount of time. What might make this point moot is if there's a separate deadline for altering shipping details, but we don't know that yet.

Re: Shenmue HD - Are the cutscenes in 4:3 (Non-Widescreen)?!

Locking this thread as the question has now been answered.

FYI - if anybody wants to gripe about it and go through the "pre-order cancelled!" motions, do it elsewhere. By which I mean off-site.

Thanks.

Re: Shenmue I & II HD : FAQs Answered by Sega & d3t

My only concern is with the Xbox version’s more controversial effects (e.g. bloom; motion blur); does anyone know if these can be turned off or reduced?
Not yet, however the FAQ says these are new post-processing effects - which is reflected in the much subtler implementation of bloom we can see in the pre-order trailer. They've effectively been redone.

Re: Current sales ranking on various Amazon & other retail s

Slowly making it's way up the Steam top sellers list. It's at about 11 now, was at 18 an hour ago.

Doing well considering it's also the Summer sale and going up against some pretty heavy discounts/popular games.

Re: Current sales ranking on various Amazon & other retail s

Shenmue I & II fluctuated to as high as 8th top seller on Steam yesterday, but it's back down to 25th today.

Which is still alright. It's hanging on in the first page, and we're in the midst of the Summer Sale with some very deep discounts happening.

Re: Adam Koralik explains the re-releases (4:3, audio etc)

People like to scream that Denuvo is always online, but it's really not. I've been able to get into Denuvo-using games in offline mode fine, I just don't think you can do that indefinitely , however. Unless you actively decide to go off the grid, have the worst internet imaginable, or are on deployment in the military or whatever... you're unlikely to ever be inconvenienced by Denuvo having to check-in with an internet connection occasionally.

Harder DRM (Denuvo) on top of softer DRM (Steam) is a bit silly, but people work themselves into contortions over Denuvo as a bogeyman. First it allegedly destroyed SSDs (disproved since), now it causes performance issues (I believe tests have shown it hampers performance by... a few frames at best?).

There's a hilarious case on the Steam forums right now, with someone whining in every thread about how Denuvo is SEGA treating paying customers like pirates. Some brave soul raked over that user's posting history and found... admissions of piracy.

A lot of Denuvo whining is projection, and propaganda.

That Ren scene appeared in the trailer that dropped yesterday, FYI. With what looks like basically the same brightness levels "as it should be".

Re: Adam Koralik explains the re-releases (4:3, audio etc)

Let's try to deescalate this a little bit...

I think Anonymous81 was also posting in the Steam discussion forums for Shenmue I & II as well, and let me tell you, that place puts the KS comments for Shenmue III to shame in terms of sheer madness. If that was them posting (as I believe it was, considering they said "peace out" pretty much around the same time they did here), then there was a commendable effort to keep calm and argue back against some shitty posters over there.

I'm not sure it was their intention to snap and decide to leave the Dojo, but dealing with the basically unmoderated hellhole of a Steam discussion board and then seeing the same major topic being raked over here, might have made things get more heated then they should have.

So let's maybe put the DRM discussion to bed for a bit.

Re: Update #85: Survey Info #2: $7M stretch goal reached!

I'm back only for this post.

... Or a QTE prompt.

Could be a counter indicator, à la the Arkham series.
It's neither.

Looks like a lock-on indicator. There's also a forklift in the background, and what look like newspapers on the floor.

The move Ryo is doing looks really similar to Akira's Houken at 1 minute 54 in this video: https://youtu.be/B9jm6lbJj54?t=113
