Re: [MOD REQUEST] Spar with Lan Di?

I seem to remember that previous attempts at model-swapping Lan Di into the "playable" segments caused the game to crash. However this is goin back a while and may not be an issue with nullDC, Demul, etc.

There is a mod that swaps Baihu for Lan Di in Shenmue II. Not sure if it's available for the DC version, but you can defo get it for the Xbox one. And by that I mean the Xbox version. Not the Xbox One.

Re: Remove clipping in Shenmue II

https://youtu.be/WgdjRGcABlU

Freely walking around in the beautiful nature of Guilin, this time with working doors and a hacked submap (store).
I also did some swapping so I can freely walk around the Cloud Bird Trail, wich is normaly on rails with Shenhua only.

I was a pain to get to the actual path as Ryo was put miles away from it in the void. Traveled there with increased emulation speed on nullDC with clipping turned off and saved. Then transfered the save to one of my VMUs and fired up a different image on the Dreamcast with clipping intact on the swapped map. It causes some nasty glitches on the video output, probably because the DC is running out of memory when having a freely controllable camera in this area. But since it was so much trouble to get there I decided to show it out no matter what.

Shenmue 2 Quick Mod: Ryo Was Too Late!

A quick mod I put together to test manual character swapping in Shenmue 2 on the Dreamcast.

https://youtu.be/OM5TheH9zFk

What's involved?
1. Hex edits to the HUMANS package to swap Joy with Lan Di.
2. SweetFX hacks to add scanlines and some other graphics boosts.

All of the audio including the cutscene audio is post processed.

Like I said, it is a quick mod. I just thought it was funny :P

Re: Demul v0.7 alpha build 221215 - Updated 22/12/15

I tried this version and indeed it corrected shenmue 2 graphical glitches with its Zbuffer fix (I have an ATI GPU so I could see these improvements in particular in GD3 and GD4). Demul seems to provide a better widescreen support for shenmue II. I hope they'll release source code for these new builds in order to allow motivated developpers to give their help (unfortunately I'm not a developper). I really hope they'll reactivate texture scaling in their next release (I'm a bit impatient I know that xD).
I'd love to see shenmue II running in 1080P x3 without glitches. I could read (in their git) they deactivated texture scaling for precision. althought a X3 scaling shader made by them could do the job as well because they wouldn't have to reactivate it in their GPU plugin (I think). Or they could even add their new fixes in their old GPU plugin to make an alternate GPU plugin.

It was such a strange feeling to be somewhere that we once discussed visiting when we were kids/ young teenagers. I'll be able to upload some more pics when I get back home.

Total awesome place to visit, we are now part the small group of dedicated fans that went out our way to travel there.

Ryo's bicycle animations (What's Shenmue mod)

Although the bicycle riding functionality was disabled in What's Shenmue before its release, it turns out that the animation data for Ryo has been left on the disk, tucked away inside the motion.bin file.

So as the next video following my investigation for the "Ryo jumping" mod, here are the unused animations for Ryo's interactions... minus the bicycle.

https://youtu.be/6lHtA6WllCs

Edit 2016/10/08: added the bicycle animations contained in the PLYBCYL.MOT file on the Shenmue II disks to the top post.

Lol I was just going to say that, I would love a Indiana Jones based on the Shenmue backstory. It would be very fitting for a true Indiana Jones movie, unlike the molestation, that is Kingdom of the Crystal Skull(there are quite a few legit myths surrounding such, all Lucas had to do, was base a movie around one of them, but instead he made that BS from scratch)

Re: Shenmue Undub [Japanese Speech Mod] [CD-R 80/99/GDI]

I wonder if its standard for gdrom's to have bad sectors.
I tried to burn the 99min Disk 1 CDI with Alcohol 120% and ImageBurn, have wasted 3x 100min disks already
and the Nero CD/DVD Speed tool always shows me defect sectors with the surface scan on the same place on all three disks :/

edit:ok..that seems to be normal...I have that red stripe of defect sectors on every disk cd1,2,3...its of equal size everytime ^^

edit 2: Successful Burning

Brand: Best-CDR 100min

Shenmue Undub Disc 1,2,3 boot instantly.
But I had to test 3-4 cd-burners I had at home until i found one that worked in terms of producing easily readable disks for the dc.

I didn't tests the disk with longer gaming times or so, so I can't really tell how reliable this disks are in the dc.

I burned with a Samsung SH-S223F, 16x, ImgBurn

Re: Shenmue ~莎木~ Game Symphony Japan 17th Concert SEGA Speci

Thanks for bringing this to us! It's great to see a Japanese orchestra perform this.

Like all the performances I heard so far, it didn't fully match the original. At the rising part between 2:06 and 2:19 they skipped a step and they might've given the erhu a little too much free room towards the end. I hate to nitpick about these things but my ears are so tuned towards the original that I spot these things so easily. After all the original is... well the original and what we "grew up" with.

Still thumbs up for this!

A very interesting arrangement of the main theme, thanks for recording it!

Couple little things about it are off, but there are a few areas where I think the changes improved the song. I really wouldn't mind hearing a more refined version of this arrangement for say, a Shenmue III trailer in the future.

Shenmue Dev Team Expanding - Leaflet Translation

Today (1st October) I want along to a single-day event in Yokohama for Unreal Engine put on by Epic Games, with the venue being Pacifico Yokohama, the same conference center where Yu Suzuki held the Shenmue Premiere so many years ago.

A number of talks on developing with Unreal were held through-out the day by companies such as Capcom and Square Enix, as well as exhibition booths and even a stall selling Unreal stickers and other merchandise.

But the main reason I was there was for to get my hands on this Shenmue leaflet:

http://i.imgur.com/PxVuekYm.jpg

Positions being advertised:

And I'm thinking this looks like a new image...? (Or is it recycled?)

I've put up a translation of the leaflet on my blog:

Heh heh :)

Ryo already has an animation (where he recovers from his fighting stance), so in theory, could that be replaced?
Should be possible in theory! It turns out to be a bit tricky though. Since Ryo doesn't fight in What's Shenmue (apart from the QTE), I had a look at the Shenmue I file but it looks like this animation doesn't exist there. I haven't had any luck with transplanting animation data between the games in the past. Ryo just turns into a pile of trembling limbs :D

Yu Suzuki on Shenmue III (Famitsu.com interview, Nov 2)

Japanese site Famitsu.com today published a new interview with Yu Suzuki, in commemoration of the release of the recent Powerdrift 3D on the Nintendo 3DS, centered mainly around various arcade games he worked on at his time with Sega.

http://i.imgur.com/a2DJnVQ.jpg

The good news for Shenmue fans is that the interview contains mention of Shenmue 3 in a few places, including some direct comments by Yu Suzuki.

I've extracted and translated the relevant parts here:
http://www.phantomriverstone.com/2016/11/yu-suzuki-comments-on-shenmue-3-nov-2.html

My favorite part is where he states that his ideal graphical vision, going back to the early arcade days, has never changed - and he gives a Shenmue 3 image as an example of that ideal.

Re: Shenmue Undub [Japanese Speech Mod] [CD-R 80/99/GDI]

Unfortunately mfd/mds link to CD1 is deleted from mega, in addition for some weird reason I cant download even 1MB from mega because of some free bandwidth limit, havent used it in a while so no idea what the heck happened.

Is there a chance someone could reupload those latest patched (07/2015) version of mfd/mds, CDI undub to some hosting that allows high speed download for free users?

Another question is, whats the difference between mdf/mds/CDI/GDI?
I know that mdf its image ripped with alcohol, CDI is some other kind of image but googling for GDI I found explanation that unlike CDI it is actually full version of the disc while CDI have to be compressed or ripped, is it still the case here or mdf/mds, cdi, gdi dont have any difference between each other apart from different extension.

Re: Playstation Experience - December 2016

Himuro, maybe you and some others may have it mistaken. I'm not a 10k backer. I just hung out with Peter, Adam and others during the Tokyo visit. Seeing as how I already live in Japan it was an easy meet up. Also I didn't meet Suzuki nor did a see/learn about any of the exclusive things the backers did. (nor did I want to)

So no, I have hardly a large personal/financial stake in this. Atleast not any more than the average backer. And even if I did, I don't see how it would drastically change my attitude about it.

The game is being made to the best of its ability. Thats all I know and care to know. Anything after that is so inconsequential to the final product to me. I couldn't care less if they showed me nothing at all until a few months before launch. And I don't care if they push it to 2018 or even 19. Infact I'd prefer if they did to reduce any unwarranted pressure from any direction.
