Re: Assassins Creed Series

Ubisoft revealed their plans for AC3's DLC and it sounds great. An alternative, 'what if' scenario sounds way more interesting than any of their previous single player DLC.

Other than reading reviews and maybe a few video previews, I'm officially on AC3 media lockdown. I want to go in fresh as possible, because it's reaching that point where there's getting to be too many previews. Dad told me that he would see if 'Santa' could bring it for me. Which is nice, except I have to now wait til Christmas to play it. Gotta avoid all spoilers til then, even in this thread haha

Re: Random Thoughts! v2.0

After putting it off for so long, I finally sent my contact the email with the logline for DEUX. This is what I ended up going with (written exactly like this):

Struggling with an unpaid debt, a twenty something signs up as a weapons tester in a high-tech duel, but to get his pay he must defeat his next opponent--an adversary he can't seem to kill .

It felt like the best one to go with. It summarizes the plot pretty well, not only that the way its written is pleasing to the eyes and reads well. Hopefully attention grabbing. Crossing my fingers he sends this out to any agents, and pray to ANY CELESTIAL BEINGS OUT THERE IN THE STRATOSPHERE that one of them bites.

RDR is easily one of this generations best games. Not only is it a lot of fun to play, but it also has, to me at least, the best story in an open world game to date.

Re: Shenmue Excluded From Sonic Allstar Racing Transformed

I know Sumo are Shenmue fans. Saying that they dont like Shenmue is idiotic. But so is posting on a Shenmue forum after Ryo has been discovered to be cut from the game, comments like:

Ryo does not fit the criteria plus we got Joe Musashi & Vyse and the Dwarf from Golden Axe. Fuck yeah more for me. Your loss.
I swear Shenmue fans act like they are so entitled and throw a tantrum every time it does not go their way.

... really do just ask for trolling and flaming to be directed in your path? Honestly, just open an account over on the COD forums and tell them how you know more about gaming than they do. Would give us a break from your arrogance. :???:

No this

Wilson also explained why one particular franchise that appeared in the original Sonic & All-Stars Racing - Shenmue - couldn't be included.

confirms no Shenmue related stuff at all simply because they didn't want to do a docks level cause it seems Shenmue 1 and II are set 100% at a dock.

If anyone's interested, this is TECH:

An ensemble cast of tech support reps try to survive abusive customers and wild in-house antics, meanwhile a vengeful customer is en route to find and destroy the call center!

These are two actors at the top of my head who can play the two main characters:

Hoodie - Jessie Eisenberg

Indian - Aziz Ansari

An extra one: New Guy - Cal Robertson (He's too old now but he would've been perfect for the part)

Re: Shenmue Excluded From Sonic Allstar Racing Transformed

Did Sega not check the numbers on these jacket sales? Im super curious now lol.. shit just got stupid.

Just got stupid? They are the sole owners of a hugely popular legendary franchise, and they just sit on it. Whenever they (or usually other people) drum up interest in Shenmue (like announcing an HD release), they do nothing because they don't want to make money. They'e wholly inept as economic human beings. They've all got to be on drugs or something. Business is one area where Darwinism can provide a complete explanation. Do you know why Sega doesn't have a console right now? Because they're $ special needs.

Re: Shenmue Excluded From Sonic Allstar Racing Transformed

Haven't posted since all that HD tomfoolery earlier in the year (still expect it to happen eventually, HD release would most likely be associated with some sort of discussion about the future of the saga if Sega has any sort of business sense anymore...) but as others have already posted, this excluded fron Allstar transformed matter does rile the emotions a bit.

As the devs (Sol, especially) have noted, this racing franchise is heavily rooted in the idea of assembling Sega's greatest IP/characters from past, present, and future into one big fan appreciation kart racing game - a Super Smash Bros of kart racing for Sega if you will. Does everyone remember how hard everyone crossed their fingers to have Ryo included in the first title and how (rightfully) proud SUMO was when they officially announced that against all opposition they had gone ahead and included one of gaming history's most misunderstood/underappreciated IP/characters based almost on nothing but their very own unbreakable passion for the series?

All I'm saying is this - SUMO's exclusion of Ryo from Transformed is - if you didn't realize it already - a HUGE blow against Shenmue support/re-emergence. Heck, Ryo's inclusion in the first All-Stars racing was one of the huge events that got the gaming world talking about Shenmue again in recent memory. For SUMO to exclude Ryo for reasons I will touch upon coming right up is another glaring example of a gaming development club either not caring enough to put the effort into revitalizing the Shenmue name or buckling under the pressure to do so.

Ryo's inclusion in the first All-Stars racing not only enticed many of us longtime Shenmue fans to anticipate, buy, and honestly enjoy the game but also impressed many other longtime, hardcore Sega fans in general who saw the inclusion of Ryo and many other Sega classic characters as an awesome reason to anticipate the game likewise. Ryo is without a doubt, definitely a Sega All-Star - has always been and always will be.

For SUMO to cite the weak excuse of 'oh, bike characters were too unbalanced' and remove Ryo just becuase he rode a bike in the first game is a slap in the face of everyone involved. If they truly believed Ryo belonged in the game and truly had passion to revitalize the image and acknowledgement of the series they would have made Ryo work in this game. They are game developers, after all, correct? It is the job of game developers to program, design, and develop concepts to work within the game design, right?

Heck, here's an idea. And it's free. And it ups the nostalgia of Shenmue even more if they had actually had the creativity to include this in Transformed. Don't like bikes? Fine. Include both Ryo and Lan Di as a racing team. Now listen carefully before questioning that duo. Default racing mode is Lan Di's black car (not a bike!). Boat mode is Lan Di's powerboat. Plane mode is Lan Di's helicopter (hell it could be Shenhua's hawk). Add to the nostalgia and fan appreciation by penning a tenuous and comedic fragile alliance between Ryo and Lan Di in their attempt to win in the racing game by having quotes/lines like: Ryo: "I will have my revenge!" Lan Di: "Just drive." etc.

TL;DR - Ryo deserves to be in Sega All-Stars Racing Transformed. Citing that bike characters didn't balance the game correctly is an excuse. Shenmue is robust enough of a series to have enough resource material to allow the SUMO developers to exercise enough game developing creativity to make Ryo work - if they were truly passionate about keeping Ryo and the Shenmue franchise alive in the game. Unless they truly aren't.

PS. Really hope Ryo gets developed as an upcoming DLC character for Dead or Alive 5. If you get pass the brand's signature superficial T&A trappings fighting game fans will find that DOA5 is the best yet and certainly an extremely solid and competent fighting game. Ryo would fit well. Having Lan Di included as well would allow all of us to enact that final dream battle that we continue to day dream about ten years and going. Although being a DOA game, wouldn't mind seeing how Team NINJA would develop a Xiuying DLC character, if you know what I'm sayin'...

Re: Gaming thoughts of the day

Digital is being forced on us because it throws out the middle guys. More money for the makers and publishers. Good for them, but not so much for us, the consumers. Digital stuff seems cool at first, but it's actually very dangerous. Modern hardware is the opposite of reliable. It's easy to lose the data, but I mostly hate the perspective of not actually having all this DLC stuff in the future.

Re: Dark Souls

Just beat Demon's Souls. What a wild ride that was. The King Alant fight at the end of the Boletarian Palace stage was the bitch to end all bitches. Unlike the boss of Dark Souls, it just takes place in a big, empty room, so there was nowhere that I could get behind to act as "cover". Had to get really good at dodging, and had to completely change my usual equipment load so that I'd be light enough to roll properly.
The ending to the game was much, much better than in Dark Souls though. I actually understood what was going on. Kind of an important factor. And the Old One was just surreal enough to creep me the hell out.

Having played them both, I think I like Dark Souls more, but both games had their obvious advantages.
Demon's Souls had, in my eyes, the better implementation of a story and a slightly better personality to it (which counts for a lot ). And that King Alant fight was a definite highlight for me (best one-on-one, human vs. human fight in the series so far, for my money)
Dark Souls had the better visual design and music, though, and made all the right tweaks to the areas of leveling up and equipment modifying.
Dark Souls 2 can't come out soon enough. I haven't felt this satisfied with pure RPG character development in a long time.

Re: Random Thoughts! v2.0

Damn, what's in Australia that's so badass?

I mean I was planning to go someday but it sounds like i'm missing something here.

I blame the long lasting prominence of Neighbours, and to a lesser extent, Home and Away. It's ruined the minds of generations of British youth...It's basically a deliberate strategy the Australian government employs in order to brain drain Britain and steal our talent. However, what the aussie government never counts on, is that this only accounts for the dregs Britain's population departing ( *cough* Pete and qwerty *cough*), and our government knows this, hence why Neighbours will always be given a place (and usually lot's of places- twice a day during the week, and omnibus on the weekend is what I grew up on) on British TV screens. :P

I'm of course only joshing chaps. I'm just proper green eyed about the fact that your going to be lucky enough to swap these grey and rainy shores for some sandy aussie beaches. Who know's, you may even find the sturdy jawed aussie girl of your dreams while your there too.

The auzzie babe is well part of my plans. Marry her and i wont have to leave!

Shenmue theme DLC in "Hell Yeah!™ Wrath of the Dead Rabbit"

A game called "Hell Yeah!™ Wrath of the Dead " has some new DLC content which includes Shenmue.

http://segabits.com/blog/2012/10/24/hell-yeah-dlc-releases-today-adds-shenmue-jet-set-radio-and-more/

50 seconds in you'll see a customizations option with Shenmue selectable. Which appears to be the Dragon mirror.

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j290/PeterC2005/Screenshot_2012-10-25-14-50-28.png

It's not just the Shenmue themed wheel, but they include Ryo Hazuki costume among the selection.

http://hellyeah.sega.jp/dlc.shtml

It's after a long while to see the word "Shenmue" in "SEGA EXPRESS," their weekly online news letter, though they misspelled "Hazuki" in Kanji. :P

Re: How do you imagine the final fight between Lan Di and Ry

Ryo trains for years and years to become the perfect killing machine and finally confronts Lan Di. They battle for 5 days and 5 nights until their bodies become hopelessly mangled. With their minds still sharp but their bodies broken, the battle escalates into an Arcade where their battle continues in the form of a game of wits in Hang On and Space Harrier. (This is the part where you realize why Ryo had to play all those games up until now throughout the entire saga, to prepare himself for this moment) Ryo's Hang On skills in the end prove superior and Lan Di grudgingly admits defeat.

Before dying from getting served however, he reveals the two Mirrors are actually in fact an old Chinese time machine. Ryo looks in the mirror and sees that after the years he spent training, HE is in fact the original Iwao and looks just like him. Resigning himself to his fate, Ryo makes the best of a bad situation by snagging a Sega Saturn video game system and some bitchin' Virtua Fighter posters from the 90's before finally heading back to the 80's to sustain the timeline.

Re: Biohazard

if anyone doesn't know, in res6 you can do an interesting gun special attack move by clicking the 2 attack buttons at the same time ( so aim & shoot )

seems to make the guns a little more powerful

It causes an automatic stagger, which can be followed up with a melee attack-->ground stomp. Very useful, especially if you're trying to conserve ammo a bit in Mercenaries mode. And it's balanced pretty well with the stamina bar, to keep you from spamming it too much.

The more I play it (beat the three main scenarios already, and still messing around in Mercs mode with my brother) the more I actually really like the gameplay. I've seen the combat rolls/slides criticized as being "useless" in a few places, but it's obvious the reviewers just couldn't get a proper handle on it. They control really well when you get used to it, can be really useful for dodging while still attacking, and they look cool as hell. Only problem is, all these new moves just push the series even further into action territory (if it could even get much further), which is a big no-no in many peoples' eyes.

Well since the 1999 Timex Expedition from Shenmue is hard to come by (and even if you do, the prices are robbery) i decided to go with the 2009 (and still available) Timex Expedition. Its identical to the Shenmue watch, except its face is white and it has a more modern strap. Since i already have the Shenmue watch in my collection, £39 for a watch i will wear while travelling is pretty sweet. Ebay seller has more if anyone wants a new watch :nice!:

Here are download links to all the original Shenmue art files I've amassed over the years. It ranges from original .bmp wallpaper from Shenmue.com, scans from strategy guides, and high resolution .psd artwork from Shenmue II.

Most of this art was acquired from Microsoft Game Studios website years ago. Since Microsoft was publishing the game in the U.S they were provided these files to promote/advertise it. The .psd artwork I mentioned above is the most interesting out of the bunch. They come in some insane resolutions and are separated by layers, meaning you can easily separate a character and the background behind it. Included below are raw scans from the various Shenmue game soundtracks, and screen captures from the Xbox game.

Re: On 10/28/2002 Shenmue II was released in the U.S on the

Airing the books and lugging crates were not enjoyable tasks, but they weren't supposed to be. It was part of the story, teaching Ryo (and the player) the value of patience and investment/sacrifice if you want to get anywhere in life.

Of course a lot of people have no tolerance for this when they sit down to play a videogame, but Shenmue is more than a game. It's an experience, telling a tale that involves the player in ways that other designers wouldn't dare - forcing the player to share the hardship that Ryo endures, so that we know we've genuinely put in the work to earn our reward. We can't experience Ryo's sense of humble achievement if we don't go through it with him.

That probably sounds nuts to some, but when you place it in context with the overall character arc along which Ryo is expected to travel - a hasty young man, consumed by the desire to fight Lan Di, into a level headed, mature hero with a greater grasp of responsibility - it only fits that the player is expected to travel the same road of emotional development.

And that happens by not brushing off the less exhilarating and more frustrating parts of his journey.
