Recently Created Gaming Mug in Celebration

Hey guys!

In the excitement I decided to paint a new coffee mug for myself. I did this two weeks ago but thought you guys may like it.

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a386/Telekill/Mobile%20Uploads/20180415_064731_zpshc3w5eey.jpg
http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a386/Telekill/Mobile%20Uploads/20180415_064726_zpsfampy7vp.jpg

One of the games displayed is of course Shenmue. I didn't want to put the 3 because I hoped the HD collection would be announced. Luckily it was.
The others are Uncharted (favorite series), Ghost of Tsushima (highly anticipated), Assassin's Creed (also a favorite), Red Dead Redemption 2 (highly anticipated), and Soul Calibur 6.

Not pictured on the other side of the mug is the Nintendo Switch side displaying Zelda, Smash Bros and the upcoming Yoshi.

I may make a completely Shenmue oriented one after the HD collection releases.

Re: Cheapest Price for Shenmue 1&2 (UK)

Just posting from my info from the other thread and I will keep it updated as best I can.

Some UK retailers have their pre-orders now live. A couple of them mention that there is a Free poster included with the game of the original artwork , however some don't. SimplyGames also has a release date of 28th September, but the others do not /have placeholders.
My first thought was that the poster was included in all retail game boxes, as the first 2 sites show that a poster is included, but ShopTo.net has no mention of the poster at this current time.

Edit: Made some changes to the list. All Physical version include poster, dates are all placeholder so have removed them. Added a new column which contains information if you need to pay upfront, or if they charge on Dispatch.

UK Retailers so far
Base.com

⋅ £22.99
⋅ Payment on Dispatch
365Games

⋅ £23.99
⋅ Payment Upfront
SimplyGames

⋅ £26.85
⋅ Payment Upfront
Shopto.Net

⋅ £26.86
⋅ Payment on Dispatch (or you can pay upfront)

Re: Cheapest Price for Shenmue 1&2 (UK)

My guess in the discord was 18th of September lol only 10 days off if SimplyGames is right.

How crazy is all this haha! Still can't really believe it. Like we knew it was eventually going to come, but the fact that it is on the main banner of some UK retailer's sites is just madness :D!

Insanely hyped on that poster!

Shenmue Dojo Competition - Sacred Spot Guide *NOW ENDED*

https://i.imgur.com/uREQhmi.png

Hi guys! On behalf of the Dojo, I have 3 of the English Shenmue Sacred Spot Guides to giveaway!

It's really easy to enter, just click the link at the bottom of this post and follow the steps! There are 8 ways to enter, and they're all really simple, especially for the majority of you guys, since you probably have already done the things that are required already :D

The ultimate goal for this giveaway is for the new Youtube channel to gain some traction. Along with the other outlets the Dojo provides such as Twitter, Facebook etc...As you may be aware the old Youtube Channel wasn't actually a part of the Dojo and was ran by an individual using the Dojo name, so Peter has been hard at work behind the scenes trying to get the new channel up to speed and jam packed with content for you all!

You can enter the giveaway here -

https://gleam.io/AxlSi/shenmue-dojo-sacred-spot-guide-english-version-giveaway

Best of luck guys, I will email the 3 winners this time next week! Hopefully...it'll be you! :D Haha, cheers!

Re: Shenmue HD - Are the cutscenes in 4:3 (Non-Widescreen)?!

In terms of essential features that I've wanted in a 'Shenmue HD' now that it's real: I'm absolutely overjoyed that they've gotten my most essential out of the way English + Japanese audio with the rest being achievements, higher resolution, retaining the original aesthetic we all grew up with and . I'm also glad classic controls are retained!

It's really cool that they managed to get widescreen support, it also looks cool seeing this in all the Shenmue streams online. As far as the 4:3 cutscenes go, I'd definitely choose gameplay being wide out of the two but I don't actually mind the 4:3 for cutscenes at all tbf if that's what they had to settle with.

The only thing is: I hope they can make a nice transition between the two aspect ratios if they do settle for 4:3 cutscenes. When you're in gameplay and you've suddenly activated a cutscene, it'd be nice to have the borders gradually transition/fade to black, just so that the two ratios flow more organically and that they don't appear jarring from one scene to the next.

Either way, if they don't it's honestly not the biggest deal breaker for me. A lot of these challenges reminds me of what developer 'Code Mystics' when through when remastering Phantom Dust last year for XB1/W10. They struggled to get the game work in all high resolutions and widescreen at first, people noticed and in towards the very end they figured it out, but they noted just how difficult it was working with old Japanese code (60fps etc wasn't achievable in the end). However: they didn't have the advantage of working with the source code: they had to hack into it straight from a retail disc, yikes!

#MyShenmue

I believe only Jibby has mentioned this on another thread but felt it could do with a thread of its own if people wanted to get involved.

To celebrate the announcement of Shenmue HD, Sega have tweeted the hashtag #MyShenmue asking for fans to tweet them some selfies featuring their Shenmue game collection. If anyone has a Twitter account, maybe you could join in the fun and show Sega just how many of us rabid Shenmue fans there are!

Come on then, ladies and gents. Let's see some photos of you with your current copies of Shenmue to celebrate the upcoming release! #MyShenmue
Original tweet: https://twitter.com/SEGA/status/986479438593273856

That Sega is finally not ignoring interaction with Shenmue fans and are now participating with us freely as we celebrate is amazing to see. I wouldn't have thought such a thing would be possible five years ago.

Re: Famitsu Article

Alright, just registered to bring my input on that. BlueMue is 100% right. Stop spreading false information about the aspect ratio. Yes, the remaster is "stretched" because this is HOW the game is supposed to look. Back then, the game was developped with CRT in mind and was meant to be stretched. What evidences do I have ? Pretty simple.
Here's an official screenshot of Shenmue from SEGA:
http://image.noelshack.com/fichiers/2018/16/5/1524237875-forklift.jpg
As you can see, it's at 640x480 but with black bars. Which according to people here, is how the game is supposed to be display. It's true, it's the native resolution of the game. BUT pay attention to the watch. It's not round:
http://image.noelshack.com/fichiers/2018/16/5/1524236067-corrected2.jpg
As you can see, the watch on the HUD is 69*78 pixels.
But if you take the picture inside the black bars and stretch it at 640*480 like the remaster does...
http://image.noelshack.com/fichiers/2018/16/5/1524236068-corrected3.jpg
TADA ! It's now perfectly round at 78*78 pixels.

You don't believe me yet ? Well, take a look at the game on Dreamcast when captured with a capture device, so displaying the game how the Dreamcast intend to display it and not how the Dreamcast process it...
https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-YbCRlCMonJs/V0MItsL40KI/AAAAAAAAQqo/j4RNPGOCMgsK8spdoJVduq9l5YhsuTxRACLcB/s1600/shenmue%2Bsnow.jpg
As you can see, round again. And the proportion of Ryo match.

More simple, here's a screen capture from the Xbox version of Shenmue II, so without any dreamcast internal resolution shenanigans...
http://shenmuedb.com/wp-content/gallery/shenmue-ii/183554-shenmue2_001_large.jpg
The watch is round again and Ryo has the same body proportions. And the watch is again 78*78 pixels.

Now here's the remaster screenshot:
http://shenmue1-2.sega.jp/img/ss/shenmue03.jpg

As you can see, Ryo's body match. I even made a gif to prove it:
http://image.noelshack.com/fichiers/2018/16/5/1524235572-comparison.gif

So please, don't spread false information that may mislead d3t ltd's work. I seen bad stuff said about them already, so please don't spread misinformation.

Re: What are you most looking forward to?

Either waiting for very late at night/very early morning (where I'll have some undisturbed time to myself) cranking up the surround sound and setting up Phillips Hue lights to a cool blue (for the first game) and scarlet red (for the second game) along with a side of sparkling water (for the first game) or bitter green tea (for the second game) and maybe a packet of those pocky/mikado sticks as well and then just chill-out.

#LivingTheDream

I echo the same sentiments as above too, looking forward to introduce/gift people this (maybe try and play this game alongside a family member/friend) and have all the bells/whistles of modern platforms (leaving console on standby, screenshots, videos, etc).

Re: Concerns about Shenmue HD.

Even if there's not a toggle in game, I can see there being a .ini tweak to reduce/disable it.

100% agreed. If MS managed to disable motion blur with the Xbox 360 emulator running the game off a disc in real-time: D3T should be able to do that and more with the source code at hand.

I have no doubts these will eventually be the definitive versions of the games, but I do think people noticing things now and (kindly) commenting on it is a useful aid to development (especially that they're a full-on company equipped to manage, outsource or handle such things with higher-ups such things versus a crowd-sourced funded team).

Things like the implementation of motion blur and Spanish subs (if not for when the discs are in production then maybe a day1 patch/post launch depending on when it releases?) I'm sure the preorder numbers and the volume of tweets at them are reinforcing the importance of these features in the game.

...

I was just reading some scepticism a few had about Shenmue's rerelease because of Burnout: Paradise Remaster's (D3T's last project) rough launch. In this case I suspect they started development on that one not long ago and they had a relatively short amount of time to do it but either way: EA are committed to continually fixing the game with them until all the issues have been resolved.

Shenmue News | What We Know and What We Don't

Good morning fellow Shenmue fans! I shared this in the Shenmue 500k facebook group, but I figured I'd share it here as well. I recently started a YouTube channel and as a longtime Shenmue fan, one thing I knew going into it was that I wanted Shenmue to be a part of it. In this video I recap all of the information we currently know about the Shenmue I & II re-releases, I go over some of the rumors I've been seeing out there, and I also touch base on some things going on in the Shenmue community itself. I'd like to make this an ongoing series and cover Shenmue news as it's announced (official or community based). I'll be adding annotations to the videos as things change. I'm planning on doing other Shenmue related videos in the future. Maybe talk about my history with the game, retrospectives, etc. I'm doing this for the love of the series and just looking for a way to share it with others that love the series as well. So I hope you check it out! Thanks a lot!

CORRECTION: It has come to my attention that the official hashtag being used for the tweetathon is actually going to be #ShenmueSaved. In this video I mistakenly said it would be #ThankYuSega. I apologize for any confusion I may have created by this.

Re: Random Shenmue HD Thoughts

My random Shebmue HD thought is the capsule toy “boobie” prizes of the controller buttons. These were altered for the Xbox version of Shenmue 2, but I wonder wether they will bother changing the ABXY & their respective colours to PS4, Xbox One & Steam controller inputs or just remove them entirely from the gotcha gotcha vending machines.

He's lacking a certain innocent youthfulness, a certain purity in the current model.
Why are you showing a Photoshopped image? There are photos of the most recent model in this the OP and on previous pages. What's slightly more perplexing is the youthful innocence bit when the financial meeting footage showed Ryo the most content looking he's been in the series ever .

This is the old 2015 model that everyone hated, just with some filters applied to it. It looked bad back then and it looks bad now.
110%.

Remember kids, when you say you want that model, you say you want this:

Coined "fake Ryo" back in 2015 for a reason. Technically and artistically inferior to the most recent model in every.single.way.

The ue4 model for the hazuki dojo remake looks like Ryo. The latest images of Shenmue 3's Ryo just doesn't. I mean he hardly looks Japanese. If they weren't gonna use the hazuki dojo remake model, well that's fine, but why not use it as a starting point?

I guess we can keep reposting this image.

Hmm, an interesting update. However, I have to say, they've got Masaya Matsukaze's face all wrong. It's simply not what I envision when I think of Masaya Matsukaze working in a recording studio. I've taken the liberty of making big improvements upon the work of whoever designed him. I think everyone will agree - particularly everyone who hangs out in the depths of Youtube comments sections, the 'GAF crowd, and other prestigious comments fields across the internet - that what I'm presenting is the definitive headshot of Masaya Matsukaze.

shenmuedojo.com is now offline

Just a heads up for anyone that used it, the URL shenmuedojo.com would serve as a redirect to the shenmuedojo.net address where the current site is located. This will now cease to function, and just show a splash placeholder message to anyone who visits it. There will still be links there to the current site, as well as our social media outlets.

The new site has been brought over to the .com URL and we are now constantly working on it. Hopefully it won't be too much longer before we are ready to launch! When we are ready, the forums will also simultaneously be upgraded and revamped. We will keep you guys updated once we are almost there.

Good times ahead, for both Shenmue games, and the Shenmue Dojo. 8)

Re: Release Date Speculation

More bizzare nonsensical Sega decisions... -_-
People are so quick to say stuff like this, yet will also moan and complain if they show it in an unfinished/WIP state (evidenced by the reveal trailer) .

Maybe it's not ready to be showcased? Perhaps they're working on addressing the concerns raised from its initial showing before letting the public see it again. At least they cared enough to get Adam and Corey in for signing sessions as an alternative.

It just feels like SEGA can't win sometimes.
You know what? You are right. I fell into the usual negativity that alot of people fall into. My bad. Still a little disappointed to not see anything this E3 but i guess i can understand why it won't be present.

Japanese lessons on Phantom River Stone

For any players of Shenmue who are inquisitive or have been inspired to find out more about the Japanese language, we are starting up a new series on Phantom River Stone called "Learn Japanese through Shenmue" aimed at beginners of Japanese. It will be structured around scenes and dialogue from Shenmue to add interest to the process of learning about the language. I hope you'll follow along and have fun.

The first lesson is available right now for blog patrons, and by the end of the month on the main blog for the public release.

Here's a little teaser...

Shenmue Inspired Travel Series

Hi guys, I recently went on my travels over to China and Japan, and visited quite a few places along the way. I took heaps of photos and video footage, with the intentions of creating some sort of video series when I got back.

Part 1 -
https://youtu.be/mXRc6z4SEpk
In this first part I visited the Beijing Zoo, The Great Wall of China, Temple of Heaven, Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City.

Part 2 -
https://youtu.be/kqvyGUQWcWc
In this episode I visited the Terracotta Warriors Army, The Master of the Nets Zen Gardens, The Venice of the East Canal District, and Tiger Hill (Pagoda / leaning tower)

____________________________________________________________________________________________________

Why is this considered a Shenmue Inspired Travel series? Well I believe that without Shenmue I would never have ever made it to these wonderful countries, it's because of Shenmue that I was inspired to make the journey to see some of the places from our beloved series. Whilst I didn't end up visiting Hong Kong or Guilin, what I did get to see in China, in my opinion was some of the things that Yu Suzuki would have originally seen on his travels, and it's these things in turn that I believe went on to inspire Shenmue aswell. I also did the one thing that's on every Shenmue fan's bucklet list - visit Dobuita Street in Yokosuka! :)

I will update this original post whenever a new Part of the series is available! Thanks for checking out the videos guys, and I hope you enjoy them 8) !

Re: shenmue 3's music(?)

My only concern is that with the old music vs the new music is that unless Iuchi has kept the same synth and MIDI sounds on his computer from the Shenmue 1 and 2 days, the new tracks will sound very different and create a clash. I hope for a consistent musical score that has a great variety as well regardless.

I wouldn't worry too much about that. This is a fairly recent piece by Iuchi and it still sounds like something right out of Shenmue.

Re: Random Shenmue HD Thoughts

Awesome news! I saw from Metal Jesus' youtube channel that Adam and Corey had been running around E3 with a camera. Apparently they were interviewing people, but instead of asking normal questions, it was Corey (as Ryo) asking questions from Shenmue. Metal Jesus said it was hilarious as Corey never broke character.

I assume this video will be released on the 3rd, potentially with a release date announcement of the S1 S2 HD re-releases.

Either way, Sega have been killing it with their social media game! Very hyped!

SEGA Europe are teasing a Shenmue related announcement for the 3rd. Possibly a release date and/or new trailer for Shenmue HD.

Thanks Jibby! Appreciated. Roll on next week then!

Re: Kickstarter Update #84 - Survey Info #1: Survey Started!

Is anybody able to confirm for me whether you can go back and upgrade your pledge after completion of the survey? Or does completing the survey lock that in? Cheers!

I sent the kickstarter team a message asking about upgrading to the 600$ tier, and they told me that it could be an option in the future. I then asked if I should wait to fill out the survey just incase, or if I could fill it out now and then change it later (if the option for $600 becomes available) and Joel replied with the following:

"You can always go back and edit your survey answers until the close in September, so if something is added, it will be easy to go back in and make any changes."

Hope that helps!

Re: Random Shenmue HD Thoughts

The recolouring and repositioning of the clown's hair, along with the addition of a little tuft on top of its head, is a nod to Krusty the Clown from The Simpsons :)

Sega have also released an updated FAQ:

Sega have released an updated FAQ:

Which version of Shenmue II did we port?
For technical reasons we started with the Xbox source code and data. This has the advantage of some additional features missing from the Dreamcast version:

Snapshots system
Filters
Texture mip-maps to improve anti-aliasing
As some community members will know, the Xbox does have some graphical differences to the DC version which will also be present in our version.

What features have we added?
As well as the herculean effort of porting the code to the new platforms, there is a huge number of things we have added:

Choice of Japanese or English speech in both games
Saves can be carried over from Shenmue into Shenmue II on all platforms
Saving anywhere in both games
HD resolution rendering
Updated UI
New post processing effects for both games
Full controller support and configurable mouse and keyboard for PC users
Full Achievement support for both games on all platforms

What does Modern control scheme mean?
Modern control scheme means we have enabled use of the analogue stick instead of the D-Pad for movement of Ryo, as well as adding full mouse and keyboard support for PC users.

Will the games run at 60Hz?
Throughout the engine, game code and scripts there are hard coded assumptions about a fixed 30Hz frame update rate, so the game needs to run at 30Hz.

Is the game 4:3 or widescreen?
Gameplay where the player can control the camera is 16:9.

Cutscenes are letterboxed in their original formats.

Can the emulated arcade games be played?
We are pleased to announce that all the arcade games in the original are fully playable in the new release!

Who do we have to thank for this incredible work?
The amazing team at d3t.

Thank you to Sega and the community for helping with all of this. ;-)
