Shenmue 2 Unofficial Four Wude Merch

Hi everyone,

In my opinion, The Four Wude, are one of the most important points in the Shenmue Series. They are the guidelines for any martial artist to follow when pursuing their development of self expression.

My girlfriend decided to make The Four Wude symbols into T-Shirts mugs, iphone cases, pillows, wall scrolls, and other fun stuff. One design per symbol.

Pillow Example:

Re: Shenmue story theories and stuff

Actually i think many old fans would be disappointed with Yu's story of Shenmue III. I think when the "Shenmue Online" trailer was released which spoiled big parts of the story many people protested against the use of "magic", "Throwing fireballs" and similar supernatural stuff. The ending of Shenmue II was intended to prepare us a bit for that, already revealing much of the magic nature of Shenhua and the mirrors. Although Yu Suzuki always liked the idea of the "epic end fight between Phoenix and dragon, controlled by the magic of the mirrors" i think many fans would be protesting that expected simply that the end would be "beating the shit out of Lan Di, period". I think while Yu actually managed to put the whole legend and mystical stuff into Shenhuas poem (the legend) he failed to prepare people for the supernatural occurances of the third part properly, so even if Shenmue 3 really becomes reality one day I am not so sure everyone would like it.

That is jumping the gun a wee bit, to be fair though, considering that we don't actually know just how far he will take the magical and supernatural elements in the third game. Personally, despite Shenmue 2's dramatic ending, I don't think the third game will turn into a string of magical sword fights, hadoukens, and end up like an an episode of DBZ. I think Yu has spent too long establishing a fine balance between a believable reality filled with real martial arts, and a slowly growing (but again, believable) sense of the supernatural, to just chuck it out the window and go super saiyan ape shit for the final chapter. I think the magical elements will almost certainly be expanded upon in the third game, but it will probably be a progression that (hopefully) feels natural, as after all we have been exposed to supernatural occurrences (or at the very least, suggestions of them) ever since the first game. Whether the climactic battle will end up being a mirror toting battle of mythical beasts, is anyone's guess. I wouldn't read too much into the Online trailer, personally, especially considering how long Yu has had to potentially change his mind or tweak his ideas since then. It all depends on how he chooses to apply these ideas.

Yokosuka Photo Tour

Hey all, I've put together a little photo tour of Ryo's hometown Yokosuka. I spend a little too much time browsing google earth daily, and they have a really interesting feature which shows photos of an area displayed over the map. None of the pics here were taken by me, I've collected them from Panaramio, the website used in this feature, and arranged them in a similar way as presented in the game. The captions I use are my own interpretation of what it looks like and not necessarily what it actually is. Put on some music https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1Am9xYC7nk for the walk, & let's take it from the top.

Re: Tentei Revealed???

As far as im aware, there are 4 boss's that guard a cardinal point throughout China. (Lan Di, Niao Sun, Ziming, Unknown guy). Then there is one above them who is the ruler of the Chi you. "The boss of the boss", Tentei.

I'm remaking Yokosuka in fancy next-gen 3D.Yes,that's right!

Hello fellow Shenmue-fans.
A lot has happened since I joined the Dojo in 2005, but as far as Shenmue goes, we're still waiting : (. Back in '05, I was just another youth with an unsure future, but my favorite games of all time were, like most f you, the Shenmues (still is, to this day).
Now, almost 10 years later, I'm a professional 3D-artist, working in the video game industry. Fate, right? Anyways, since Yu and the Boys (and Nagoshi, and the Yakuza-guys) can't seem to do neither a remake of Shenmue I&II, nor shenmue III I've decided to take it upon myself to recreate the whole of Shenmue I in 3D, so everything's done for them the day they decide t actually do a remake! Handy right? : D

I posted this thread almost 2½ years ago, some of you might remember that, it was my intention back then to start this project, but work, life, and everything else came between. Now however, I've got a solid job, many interesting sideprojects running, and a lot of time to kill during the weekends! So, thus, the saga begins ;)

Hope y'all like this!
Every model is 100% custom made from scratch , no Shenmue-assets used at all, every texture is custom made, every painting and kanji based on screenshot/photos of my TV, which I've then painted on for maximum accuracy! It's not much.. yet, but it's something!

Everything's default rendered in the fancy Unreal engine atm, which I'm not yet really familiar with.. but I will be! : D

(I think it all looks kinda crap atm , the light is off and so on,but bear with me, I'll learn as I go and I'll see this through : ) )

http://imageshack.us/a/img694/6946/4qmd.jpg
The Dojo, for Shenmue Dojo! : D Lacking a roof atm.. working on that!
http://imageshack.us/a/img821/5779/ec9w.jpg
Gonna light the candles later too!
http://imageshack.us/a/img834/4632/ytat.jpg
All the scrolls and stuff are based on the game's! Still missing the sword-box, working on it!
http://imageshack.us/a/img580/2827/nshg.jpg
The door, with a red-brown inside, and dark brown outside, just like in the game : D
http://imageshack.us/a/img5/5527/em9j.jpg
Really happy with how that hose and bucket turned out : D
http://imageshack.us/a/img801/7669/06ou.jpg
The garden lantern! I added some kanjis, anyone recognise them? : ) I try to stay as true to the original look as possible, while adding "logical" details that current gen tech can handle but the DC could not : )
http://imageshack.us/a/img600/8026/5ip4.jpg
Some bushes and stuff, all very WIP! Note that the fence is now modelled, and not a polygon plane lik in the game ;P
As John Hammond said in jurasic park.. Spared no expense!

I'm working on this a bit every weekend, and sometimes during the wekdays. I'm fulltime employed at Paradox Interactive, and I spend a lot of my freetime developing games for iOS and such, so time is kinda slim but, as you can see, I'm getting somewhere! : D I'll update this thread every now and then when I get the time : D

And I'll see this project through! Probably before Shenmue 3 is released, anyway! xD

Also, thanks to Ziming who posted a lot of Shenmue screens last time I asked for them, without them, I'd have a really hard time creating all this in 3D (I do look in-game a LOT but, some things you just cannot get a good view of xD)

Also, last but not least, I'm ALWAYS in need of good reference material . If anyone got texture packs (i don't use the, but I look at them : )), hi-res screen, screens of weird angles (like, a skyview om Hazuki residence and such) it would be REALLY helpful to get my hand on these : )

NeoGAF: New Japanese trademark from Sega (Shenmue)

Good news everyone!

But in all seriousness, whilst this looks promising, we shouldn't get too hyped just yet. I'd love for it to be Shenmue I and II HD and/or Shenmue 3, but we all know how this stuff usually ends. Let's hope I'm wrong though!

Re: NeoGAF: New Japanese trademark from Sega (Shenmue)

The momentum we've got in media right now and all the coincidences happening at the same time is quite peculiar. There's much more going on now than there has been for many years so it's definitely cause for some hope.

Very well said KX-5 and everyone else.. let's not get too excited so we don't kill ourselves.. but keep up the pressure and never give up! :)

This E3 should be interesting indeeed. I'm glad I just finally got my VGA-Box so I can play some Shenmue 2 again leading up to it ^^

Re: NeoGAF: New Japanese trademark from Sega (Shenmue)

Ok Dojo, I just got a very reliable person to translate and summarize that image for me. Here's what he had to say.

"It's hard to intuit that sort of potential motive. It looks like a typical trademark application that includes rights for everything under the sun. There's lots of general use terms that refer to games specifically, but then there's general merchandising stuff like cell phone straps, covers, etc. On the games front specifically, it's worth noting that the trademark covers not only home consoles, but also cell phones/portables (the terminology for "portable" in Japanese in this case is all encompassing), and PCs. A lot of the terms are pretty redundant and are just there to include transmission medium and whatnot, too, which I guess is a thing with Japanese patents. Towards the end of that image, they do mention download images, music, and video files. I'm not sure if that's standard practice for downloadable games there or not, as the actual programming isn't mentioned like it is elsewhere.

Hard to say. Really wouldn't read too much into the prominence of the word "ROM" though. It's all in reference to cartridges and I'm pretty sure that's just put in carte blanche with game-related trademarks in general.

Hope that helps~"

Re: NeoGAF: New Japanese trademark from Sega (Shenmue)

They are making light of the situation. I wouldn't hold it against them too much even though it is irritating. Just think about if you had multiple people replying to everything you said with random questions unrelated to what you just said, and this happened every day, all over all of your social media and in letters, email, etc. And also some of them happened to be very hateful. It would get old.

That said, it is still annoying and I don't think they should be making so much effort to trivialize Shenmue fans, but it is what it is.

I realize these aren't decision makers but sega should have a handle on these idiots who think it's cute to make light something that so many people hold dear. And it's easy for people to criticize when they get their steady stream of uncharteds, halos, CODs, yakuzas and sonics but here we are for more than a decade still waiting for resolution. I can't help but feel betrayed that I started a story I may never complete. And not just in game form. The least they could do for us is allow yu to tell the story in some medium. Seriously sega, take pride in bringing fans what they want. If you don't want to risk millions on making a game you have no guarentee of a return...I get that. But for goodness sake, give us what we want in some form. Just look at how happy those two postmortem slides made us. We were thrilled to get just a sliver of information about what the future holds for ryo. But do whatever you think makes the shareholders happy.

Click the link to try bring back Shenmue on Xbox!

http://i.imgur.com/ZZzWHHU.png

CLICK THIS LINK...
https://twitter.com/intent/tweet?screen_name=XboxP3&text=Shenmue&hashtags=bringbackOGxboxgames%2CSaveShenmue
...AND THEN CLICK "TWEET". That's it! :)

Phil Spencer (a.k.a. @XboxP3, he is the President at Microsoft Game Studios) will get a notification about your Shenmue request!

UPDATE: http://xbox.uservoice.com/forums/251647-gaming-achievements/suggestions/6028512-bring-shenmue-3-to-xbox-one (ONE MORE WAY to support!)

F.A.Q.:

Q: Why this is happening?

A: Because Phil Spencer said that he is open to hear ideas about original Xbox games to bring back, as can been seen here: https://twitter.com/XboxP3/status/471467263271657473

Q: Didn't Phil said they're not going to make it?

A: Phil also said Gears of War ran its course and then bought the IP. Decisions like that are not monolithic in nature. And, with the right pressure, he may change his mind about Shenmue, too!

Q: I have my doubts? Is this going to work?

A: Nobody in this world is able to know. However, when you TRY, big things could happen! For example, think back what attention and positive signs we managed to achieve so far with SONY:
- http://kotaku.com/shenmue-fans-sure-are-crazy-1500240326

Support Shenmue, anyway and in any way, and spread the word! :D

Shenmue Undub [Japanese Speech Mod] [CD-R 80/99/GDI]

http://kogami.free.fr/Photo/Shenmue/logo.jpg

Shenmue is a 1999 adventure video game developed by Sega AM2 and published by Sega for the Dreamcast, produced and directed by Yu Suzuki. Suzuki coined a genre title for its nonlinear gameplay, "FREE" (Full Reactive Eyes Entertainment), for the game, based on the interactivity and freedom he wanted to give to the player. Suzuki intended to achieve this by simulating aspects of real life through the game, such as the day and night system, real-time variable weather effects (unheard of in a game of this kind at the time), fully voiced non-player characters with their own daily schedules, quick time events, and various other interactive elements such as vending machines, arcades, and convenience stores.

This version made by me offers users the ability to play Shenmue with Japanese voices and English subtitles. I used the official English translation for this undub version, but the Japanese version of Shenmue contains more dialogue, there is approximately 3% of Japanese text retained in my version (I have not yet managed to find a translator that is able to translate the remaining Japanese sentences into English for me).

I used the translation from "US Shenmue" to make this Undub version.

For this release, I copied all the necessary directories (Sound + Japanese Subtitle) into a PAL ISO for Shenmue and I changed most of the Japanese text into English one line at a time. Thanks to the translation tools that Sizious released.

The advantage of this method:
-Less errors/Synchronization bugs (lip sync)
-The subtitles for the dialogue are in good working order in the game
-I replaced the designs of the vending machines with the original Japanese versions
-For the CD-R 80 version, I downsampled some of the voices to avoid deleting any audio from the game (as a result all of the characters have speech)

Unfortunately, there is still some Japanese text in the script (3%) Because the Japanese script contains more text than the English script, and I am not able to translate them (This only concerns the NPCs).

Thus this version of Shenmue Undub corrects some of the errors that plagued Smiths version.

Two version are available (CD-R 80 and CD-R 99) with some difference to make it fit in the appropriate sizes,

Shenmue Undub "Disc 1" [PAL-E] (CD-R 80):
-I downsampled the NPC audio only (not cutscene) in FREE01.AFS from 14000hz to 11025hz.
-The language menu and text is in English only.

Shenmue Undub "Disc 2" [PAL-E] (CD-R 80):
-I downsampled the NPC audio only (not cutscene) in FREE02.AFS from 14000hz to 8000hz.
-The language menu and text is in English only.

Shenmue Undub "Disc 3" [PAL-E] (CD-R 80):
-I downsampled the NPC audio only (not cutscene) in FREE03.AFS from 14000hz to 8000hz.
-The language menu and text is in English only.
-Arcade game remove (Hang On/Space Harrier)
-Track CDDA remove ("Wish..." song motorcycle cutscene)

Re: Things you just noticed (recent playthroughs)

All those planks climbed for nothing ;(

On topic, when you defeat Chai at the arcade if Ryo goes home before 7PM there will be no sign of Fuku-San whatsoever. I found that interesting because I think his absence implies that he tailed Ryo, saw that everything was alright and went into town for a drink (jk).

Nah but it sort of makes sense since we all know that Fuku randomly appears if Chai beats your ass.

Cool videos. Mind if I re-upload the video with Fuku-san's extra scenes to our channel?
Sure, why not. I'm doing these for the community and the further I can reach out with them, the happier I am!

Speaking of Fuku-san, here's the first real video of the series with a few more easily missed Fuku-san scenes.
I never knew about the first one until my recent notebook run. Pretty obscure but nice.

Re: Shenmue scene compilations and other videos

It's been quite a while since the last video but I finally have something new. Look what happens if you lose the fight against the Mad Angels on the first day of work!

Re: Shenmue scene compilations and other videos

New video! Ryo is just to stupid for the forklift job.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0DD2aLOSHmY

@johnvivant: No the Arm Break Fire in the video is leveled well under moderate. It's just the full version of the move. Once the enemy is grabbed you have to press X for the first armlock extension and then X+A for the second one on the ground, both with the right timing. I have trained it to moderate in that playthrough but despite the description implying that it changes I didn't notice any visual differences.

Re: Things you just noticed (recent playthroughs)

I think this is probably just an over observation on my end, so if this sounds stupid I apologize. But after Shenmue 1's opening scene I noticed something a bit peculiar. As most of us know, there is a letter in Iwao's room to Ryo. Ryo concludes that his father must have known Lan Di was coming for him. But in the opening cinematic when Lan Di brings up Sun Ming Zhao, Iwao is REALLY surprised when he realizes who Lan Di really is. I kind of just feel like Iwao was expecting someone else to come for the mirrors, but not Sun Ming Zhao's kid. A different member of the Chi You Men? (perhaps the old man?) No, I'm not trying to suggest a new theory or anything, just something I've personally noticed over the last few months or so. Thoughts guys?
Indeed. Now that you mention it, it does seem a bit odd. Sure, the letter sounds like Iwao knew someone would come for him, but the surprise that it is Lan Di and who he is, puts this into a new perspective, at least for me.

Because his father is voiced by Segata Sanshiro. How often does this have to be mentioned until you guys get it?

Indeed. I have a hunch that it is stored in the EN_DEKU.BIN file. However, I was able to control the move animations in some extent (mainly to stop or start the animations), as can be seen in the video.

EDIT: One more, haha!

Re: david deville Interview with Yu suzuki

I will try to make it clear.

I live in Japan but my wife and i decided to go back to France on october 1st. We are doing all the cleaning, i also had many other things to do and i am still busy.

At first, i wanted to meet up and set up an interview with Suzuki san and just ask some questions. Nothing special really. It just turned to something unexpected and he indeed showed me the last 2 boss (north and west one), the real face of Baihu so i know who is behind the mask and at the end of the interview, he showed me Tentei 天帝.

I also got to learn some things related to the story which i have promised to not reveal so i wont unless he sends me another mail saying i am allowed to.

As for why he told me all of this, he said : 大サービス, which literally means huge service, or giving me something precious. For the 2 remaining boss, he said : これは誰も見せてない。 which you could translate to : i have never shared this before or no one ever saw this. I highly doubt he lied to me, i am sure that what i have seen is 100% legit.

So yeah you can imagine that i was not allowed to take pictures or record any video. My audio files are on my comp and the interview will be in a text form. I was hoping to record everything as a video with my camera but that was impossible since shenmue 3 contents (not in game stuff, just old artworks) were shared.

I am unknown so i can understand people having doubts but i will make you you believe what i am writing. I will try to post something before going to bed.

Re: david deville Interview with Yu suzuki

Hi guys.

I am actually working on it, i have some free time. It's in french right now and i am about half way through it.

Just to make things clear :

- Do not expect a Shenmue III release date

I suppose it'd be useless to detail everything right now, you will be able to read it soon enough, once i am done writing everything on my free time. I will do a double check on what i am able to share, so you might get more than expected, or less, but trust me, you will get something.

Be back later !

Any Shenmue news is good news in my book. I look forward to the interview.

Is there any chance of uploading the audio file?

With regards to Shenmue 3, I can see where some of you are coming from. At this point though, I dont think any of us should get hyped until we see an official trailer of Shenmue 3. It seems like every 3 months, there's a shenmue tease, which inevitably amounts to nothing. Sega can renew the trademark, create a new site, tease an upcoming shenmue game etc, etc. But until I see an official announcement trailer and release date, my hype levels will remain in check.

Wow, Some of the responses I see here are downright mean.

I have also been waiting as long as everyone else, if not longer, for certain answers.

However, that does not give anyone the right to be butt hurt over someone being sworn to secrecy.

Dave isn't the only one who has info he can't give. More of us here are guilty of that as well, including myself.

Anyway, back to the topic.

Dave! Get it published! It'll help out with the exposure that Shenmue needs!

Re: Yakuza series

and it's hard for me to believe that Sega could be so dumb as to skip it entirely.

dude... think about what you just said. Really? I know you are aware of the kinds of decisions Sega has made lately... I have no idea how you could believe that. Like I said, no Y5 is a tough pill to swallow, but Sega are obviously off their rocker with decision making for years now. They didnt localize PSO2, We got Hatsune Miku singing game for idk what market they thought would actually buy that in mass outside of japan, obviously no S3, Sonic has been a mess since DC, idk whats going on with Valkyria Chronicles, but they have basically cut us off from that. What more evidence do you need? Their executive decision making is in shambles.

Re: Yakuza series

To be honest, I think Shenmue would have had a similar effect if it had actually been allowed to run for as many games as was originally planned. I can't imagine they would have switched the gameplay up much as it went on. The only difference is that combat is a little more sparse. But if you like combat, I don't see how that's necessarily a benefit; it's just a difference.
I kept coming back to Yakuza because I love the characters and stories, primarily. You might see the narratives as convoluted and underwhelming, but to me they represent a very uniquely-Japanese style of storytelling, and that kind of thing is right up my alley. It's totally kept with the overall style of old yakuza movies except on a larger scale, and that's appealing as hell to me. I love the gameplay and overall formula too, to such an extent that I don't mind at all if only slight changes have been made as the series goes on. You can complain of battles being repetitive, but the series has come to a point where it may as well be half-RPG, so it's really no different from the formulas that other RPGs go by. Not talking about you guys necessarily (because I'm not sure of your stance on it), but I always find it funny when folks who love JRPGs start ragging on an action game for being repetitive. It happens a lot, surprisingly, but I don't see how one is any different from the other.
Besides, Ryu Ga Gotoku 5 was clearly a huge shock to the formula anyway; it has driving, rhythm games, and hunting, aside from the continued use of beat-em-up encounters and exploration (which was seriously stepped up, if the demo was anything to go by; action is waaaay smoother than it was before). So clearly they're taking steps to switch things up in the main series as it is. The appeal of spinoffs like Kenzan and Ishin is the time periods and scenarios themselves, so crazy changes aren't quite as necessary.

But if western gamers have such a problem with the constant random battles, maybe Sega is smart not to localize the series further. They're in there because Japanese gamers like that sort of thing, the constant sense of improving one's characters through work and all that. It's part of why RPGs are so big there. I like it myself, but then I seem to like a lot of things others don't; people also complain of the fixed camera angles in the first two games, but I really liked those too.

EDIT: Oh, and in regards to the first game, funnily enough I found that there's a glitch when playing it on a backwards-compatible PS3; except for a few chapters, the random battles mostly don't show up at all, unless they're story-related. I was actually missing them after a while.

Re: david deville Interview with Yu suzuki

Well since you are probably going to wait until november, i will just tell you this right now.

Shenmue III is not in production (unless its another secret, but i doubt it). But Yu Suzuki wants to make it, trust me. If you wonder why i am so sure, there is a reason. When i was talking with him, as you know, he showed me private artworks (can't thanks him enough) and while doing so, i've asked him why he did not show this to the public until today (i consider myself a random dude, i am not a pro journalist, even tho i'd love to work for the game industry) and here is what he told me :

"I am not showing this because it could be used to promote Shenmue III"

I do not know how its gonna sound to your ears but to mine, Yu Suzuki is still keeping everything because he still has the will to create it. Of course, in the mean time, he'd like to work on other projects and games, but he definetly hasn't given up on Shenmue, trust me.

I was not supposed to write this down right now, but since i am probably going to make you wait longer, take it as a gift. Do not give up guys, Yu Suzuki wants to make it, let's keep going and provide support.

Re: david deville Interview with Yu suzuki

I've talked to him about the reason behind not making Shenmue III. You'll read his answer on november but don't expect something awesome, but you might learn something (or not).

I've sent an email to Yu Suzuki about the french magazine so he can be aware of what's going on (haven't told him yet) since i thought it'd be internet only. Also offered my service in case he'd like to share Shenmue infos etc, later on. If i can get closer to him, i might be able to help the community even more, but the chances are low. But trying doesn't hurt.

2am here in Japan, resting time or i'll become a zombie.

As always, i'll stick around and come back from time to time.

See you guys !

Sega enters crowdfunding

Sega is going to enter the crowdfunding business via the newly founded "Crowdrive" along with FujiTV and Goopa.
It's for anime only now but in 2015 they'll expand it to games aswell.

Re: Reboot Shenmue?

Once the analysis is complete, they could then somehow incorporate elements that make a game sell into these HD releases
No thanks. I don't want a Shenmue full of shooting, killing, stupid licensed music, profanity and tons of tutorials.
And yes I deliberately left the second half of your sentence out of the quote.

How is Sega supposed to make Shenmue interesting to the current market without ruining the game?
We all know what kids these days love about video games... Why should they even try it in the first place?
Shenmue is anything but mainstream and it simply shouldn't adapt to other games at all.
That's Shemue's strong point after all.

All that Sega should do is simply market it as just that! A unique experience among the endless stream of soulless action games.

I agree that some things need to be updated in a remake though. Smaller things that simply make the game more enjoyable and use the power of the current hardware. A time skip option, save anywhere, modern and classic control schemes, better animations for the NPCs, a newly done dub, more to explore and such.

You don't need to look at other games to figure those out. I repeat myself: Shenmue should stay Shenmue and Sega should market it for it's "uniquity".

Yeah its Retro Playing Mag#4.

Regarding the translation, i started 2 hours ago, i am halfway through it but since my english is not that good, i will leave it to Shenmuedojo admin once its done. Feel free to rectify grammar mistakes, unusable words etc. I am more comfortable in french, but will do my best to provide a good translation.

If i keep working on it today, it should be done soon. I will add artworks, images etc, then we will decide (shenmuedojo, master and i) when is the best time to publish it.

See you all soon !

Re: Thoughts on Ziming Hong NOT being one of the four leader

Personally, I doubt that the plot changed much, if it all, from the time of Shenmue II's release through today. I just think we simply had it wrong about Ziming. All the clues were there sure - but keep in mind, the concept of 4 Chi You Men leaders had never even in the slightest been hinted at within the games themselves, so the Ziming bit that we mistook as foreshadowing probably wasn't meant to be a red herring to trick us into thinking he was one of these leaders.

David, can you comment on whether or not the 2 previously unannounced leaders look like they could fit that image with the shadowy figures, based off what you have seen?

Re: Thoughts on Ziming Hong NOT being one of the four leader

Maybe at some point, Ziming was a leader (i cannot confirm, i don't know, i am just guessing) and then the story has changed. I think that's possible.

But from what i have seen, the character on the upper left fits perfectly, there is no mistake. The last character i saw could fit into that supposed Ziming shadow, that's how i feel about it.

Yu Suzuki told me that he was not one of the leaders so UNLESS he plan to change it during the development, Ziming is, right now, not one of the leaders, i am 100% sure.

He also said this :

"You can tell them the following names : Koutei and Gentei. I want fans to imagine them."

So pretty much, as a gift to all of us, he provided names so you could try to imagine how they look like.

Giving us everything through an interview, artworks, all story details would pretty much mean he's giving up and as you can see, that's not the case.

Let's keep pushing Sega or any other company that could make Shenmue III a reality because, trust me, Yu Suzuki is a genius and i would feel very bad if Shenmue III never get a release date.

I think it would be great. Atlus is the only thing Sega has going for them and a Atlus style version of Shenmue would be the only other way I would approve a Shenmue to be made outside of its current form. However, if Yu Suzuki isnt at the helm then I wouldnt approve it at all.

A NeoGAF user spoke with Giocorsi about Shenmue at PSX. He revealed that Shenmue was the most requested title from the #Buildingthelist campaign and there are a lot of issues restricting it's release. If anyone remembers earlier this year another NeoGAF user commented that legal/copyright problems prevented HD ports from happening.

SEGA planning development of TV and film adaptations of video game properties

http://variety.com/2014/film/news/sega-taps-evan-cholfin-to-adapt-its-videogames-for-films-tv-digital-platforms-exclusive-1201377268/
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=950515

EGA has begun planning the development of classic and modern video game franchises for film and television. SEGA has tapped Break Media executive Evan Cholfin to lead the efforts at Tokyo-based Stories International, a joint venture between SEGA and Hakuhodo DY Group launched in 2011.

The first titles SEGA plans to move forward with are “Altered Beast,” “Streets of Rage,” “Shinobi,” “Rise of Nightmares” and “Crazy Taxi”. Plans are for English-language live action and animated spinoffs. “Virtua Fighter” and “Golden Axe” are also being considered.

SEGA also has a minority investment in All Nippon Entertainment Works through a stock deal. The deal with ANEW will help the Stories group expand its efforts by gaining access to twenty Japanese rights holders with connections to films, TV shows, books, toys and manga.

With the news of a joint venture with Sony Pictures to produce a Sonic the Hedgehog movie, SEGA will have a big presence in Hollywood in the coming years! In the comments, let us know which confirmed franchise you’re most looking forward to.

So far, “Altered Beast,” “Streets of Rage,” “Shinobi,” “Rise of Nightmares” and “Crazy Taxi” are greenlit. Could we potentially see a Shenmue anime/movie/live action series in the future?

Personally, I could see a Shenmue movie working and it might be the catalyst for Shenmue 3.

Adapt Shenmue 1 & 2 + the boat into one movie, use profits from this movie to fund Shenmue 3.

Re: Conversation with Giocorsi (From LanDC at PSX)

Hmmm, this is all certainly very fascinating and encouraging to hear. Couple of quick points I'd like to throw out there:

1. Yakuza 5 is a fantastic sign that Sony - god love 'em - is actually working hard to satisfy their fans' requests. After all, never mind Shenmue for a moment. For the longest time, most western Yakuza fans also pretty much gave up on Sega ever supporting the series in the West again.

That Sega is now willing to put some kind of effort and resources into localizing Yakuza 5 for western release shows you just how hard Sony must have needed to work with Sega *just to have Yakuza 5 released as a digital release*.

2. There you have it folks. Shenmue I and II HD ports most likely exist in near finished form somewhere deep in Sega's bunker but that the software engine licensing issue truly is something that Sega (especially *today's* Sega) would not spend any time or effort on resolving.

3. So it might come down to this. Trying to get the HD re-releases out is almost starting to become too complicated an issue in its own right. It's almost like trying to get the HD releases out is taking time, effort, and resources away from just getting Suzuki the budget he needs to make the necessary new main core titles to just finish the series off.

Now hold on folks. I'm not trying to split up our focus or spread any negativity here. For me, it's almost like the release of a new Shenmue 3 has to be all or nothing - it's either going to be some kind of collection release of SI, SII, and S3 together or nothing at all. After all, we're right: Shenmue 3 won't make a whole lot of sense to a lot players without S1 and S2 *BUT* focusing *just* on trying to get HD S1 and S2 out before even contemplating making Shenmue 3 seems like a huge time, effort, and money sink that would be better served working on the actual Shenmue 3.

(On a tangent, I would assume Suzuki would know a thing or two about who actually owns the software engine rights to the two games he made personally, wouldn't he? And once we know who owns the rights, although I don't want to sound shallow here, it would just be the matter of throwing them enough money to purchase the rights to expressing this engine again with S1 and S2 HD re-releases...)

Just some food for thought. On the other hand, chin up! Sony does hear us and is literally in the business of making our requests come true. Moving forward, we need to keep on trying and become part of the solution somehow.

Re: Conversation with Giocorsi (From LanDC at PSX)

I'd personally hate it if they release Shenmue III in episodes. I really want it as a whole package without all the preivews at the end and flashbacks at the beginning of every episode. And most important, I don't want to be left with a cliffhanger again. I imagine the hopeless feeling at the end of every episode. The question if the next one is really going to come out.

I just voted for Shenmue HD (recommended) as the Most Anticipated 2015 title.

It's not listed. Vote for it by clicking Other and write it in the textbox below.

We don't expect Shenmue to be listed in the official public results. We vote for it because we want Sony's people to see Shenmue's name to pile up in their poll like a huge mountain of requests. We want the people who count the votes to go like: "Guess what, Gio Corsi/ Adam Boyes etc. Shenmue was again the most requested title, even in this poll!"
