it's probably because any fan of the series has already backed, or is waiting for alterations to the method of payment, like paypal, or maybe the inclusion of some different rewards.

Like you say, the added rewards where snapped up in minuets, showing people are ready to throw more money at it IF you give them a reason to.
Apart from PS4 physical fans, them who know about it 90% have backed it.
The thing with Shenmue is the fans are hardcore and been on it for the last 14 years, or are now 30+ with families or other interests and don't play games anymore, haven't heard about it, but would back it if you could reach out to them.

So, I was browsing the undub text files, I am searching for the original JP script text files if anyone has them, I have messaged Kogami and am awaiting a reply.

Within these files are lines that were cut from the English version or have additional Japanese dialogue

One of the first lines I find references Noguchi construction, a quick google search turns up that its infact a REAL Japanese construction company

I don't know if they had personal relations or connections with the Shenmue team, or maybe they were consulted as structural advisors or the possibility that Manabu Takimoto the games architect was in connection with them...

The next link I find is this crazy as shit ancient Japanese Shenmue BBS from May 1999, before the release of 'What's Shnemue' (June 1st 1999?)
