Re: Shenmue 3 & E3 2017

Ok...I'm calling it now... Shenmue I & II Remastered WILL be announced at E3 2017!!!

I am 99% positive, just like I was for Shenmue III before E3 2015...

If you don't believe me, see this: http://www.shenmuedojo.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=47611&start=105

There is too little time & too much money at stake for SEGA & SONY to NOT make an announcement on The Grandest Stage of Them All at E3 this year.

Here's what I predict:

*Lights Go Dark & Petal Drops*
Jaw-Dropping Shenmue III Trailer Airs
Slacker Backer Grand Finale Announced
PSN Beta Announced for Fall 2017
Final Release Date Announced for Spring 2018

Yu Suzuki & Gio Corsi take the stage with one last announcement...

Shenmue I & II Remastered are available on PSN,,, RIGHT NOW.

*CROWD GOES BONKERS*

All is once again right with the world...

And the story goes on...

Re: Shenmue III Update #67: Developer Room Update 3

My quick thoughts...

1. We have seen how the revealed Shenmue III environments reflect that of the originals.

2. Do you think YS Net will really place a plastic, cartoony model in these environments?

3. They're still in the process of refining the characters towards Shenmue I + II's more realistic, human models.

Patience is a virtue.

Re: Shenmue III Update #67: Developer Room Update 3

Can we all agree that a character aesthetic close to the Shenhua & Ryo models in the Shenmue Dojo header would be most appropriate?

God I hope the development team senses this.

Re: Shenmue 3 & E3 2017 - UPDATE - Confirmed will NOT be at

Just my thoughts on all this, thought it might've be worth reiterating here. Really excited to see more down the road, very patient for 3, kinda impatient for 1 and 2 HD :-p Hoping for the Rice Digital rumour to come to fruition and that Shenmue HD is on track for this year (failing that please just announce the game, YOU ARE TEARING ME APART SEGA!)

We're almost there everyone! :-D

Amen. I don't give a damn if SEGA needs another 1, 2, or more years to release Shenmue HD... but just announce the dang thing already at E3 this year. It's now or never.

Re: YSNET officially announce the delay of Shenmue 3.

Shibuya Productions has stated that Shenmue III needs to sell 1 million units to ensure the development of the rest of the saga.

The Last of Us, Life Is Strange, and Horizon: Zero Dawn all sold over 3 million, but we shall see.

Can Shenmue III do it?

Re: New Ryo & Shenhua models from press release

This does not look like Ryo or Shenhua.

This looks more like Ryo's plastic filipino cousin and Shenhua's plastic french auntie.

They need to just use the CG original models.

And why did they replace the original logo AGAIN ?

Stick to the originals.

Environments look good thus far, though.

Re: New Ryo & Shenhua models from press release

Well, I was never one of those people and never understood those who said such things. Shenmue 1 and 2 were masterpieces and I expect it to keep that way. I'd rather have nothing at all, than having a manga, a novel or a shitty game just to say they finished the story.

Obviously, it sometimes still feels like a dream that Shenmue 3 is a reality. I had lost all hope many years ago and, as a gamer, Shenmue 3's announcement was the best videogame news I've ever had in my life. So I am grateful for it. Now, does this mean that I should be happy about everything they show us? No, if it looks like shit, it looks like shit.

Again, I'll hold my judgement until I see a more final version of the game and that too in motion. I know this is just work in progress material, not to mention they just did a simple photoshop of the characters on top of the background, with no lighting, shadows, or anything. That's why I'm not too worried yet, because this is simply not enough to know how the game will actually look like and I'm still optimistic that it will look great, so don't get me wrong about that.

Having said that, this is what we have now and this thread is about these pics that they just released, so we are talking about what we think about these pics. And Ryo and Shenhua look like shit in that pic. At least to me, they do. Again, they're certainly an improvement over the KS pitch video (especially Ryo), but that's not saying much. They still have a very long way to go. And I find it odd that, after all this time, they still haven't managed to make a better-looking Ryo than some stuff already made by fans at their homes.

Anyway, in just a few days, we'll have a much better idea of what the game, and, namely, the characters, will actually look like (though that too will still be work in progress).

Well said. After all these years, the Shenmue saga deserves better than this.

Re: New Ryo & Shenhua models from press release

At the end of the day, people are voicing their opinions because they care--they want Shenmue to be the best it can be.

We should respect that.

Without most of us, there would be no Shenmue III.

And after nearly 20 years, this is our last shot.

If Shenmue III isn't good enough, the sales sure won't be, and we can all kiss the rest of the saga sayonara.

We want this work of art to be a masterpiece that will live on well beyond our lives.

Let's understand the passion in each other and keep faith.

Gamescom is just around the corner with some great news!

Re: Shenmue 3 trailer is FINALLY HERE!!

As a fan, I love this. The scenery, the colours, Ryo and Shenhua's new models, fighting on the Great Wall of China!!! 2018 is going to be an agonising wait.

But...I'm really concerned about their inclusion of the unfinished facial animation in the trailer of all places! I just know it's going to hurl so much ridicule their way from people whose lives are so empty and meaningless they enjoy trashing other people's work on the internet and watching it fail. It could have so easily been avoided had they just shown off the gorgeous environments with maybe the character photos at the end. If character facial animations aren't finished I'm OK with not seeing them just yet.

Absolutely. If I were marketing Shenmue III, I would just show more scenery until everything else is ready. In today's critical world, many impressionable eyes are creating their first mistaken impressions of this series off of obviously early development teasers. Marketing should try to protect development as much as possible until it's ready. We need to ensure we don't put off any potential new fans to ensure a successful release.

These scenes sell themselves...

Re: New Ryo & Shenhua models from press release

The original Shenmues were the collective effort of countless human beings behind-the-scenes and the original works, character art, logo, and experience were a culmination of that. We should respectively carry on this legacy in order for Shenmue III to be the best it can be, which is why Yu-san encourages our honest feedback.

To be sincere, to many of us, the new models do look like impostors and the new logo does look quite jarring in comparison to the original, as well. Again, we must respect the creative process like those behind-the-scenes artists before us and offer Yu-san and company our sincerest guidance. Many of us are also speaking from the heart and only want the best for this magnum opus--a masterpiece which stands the test of time and inspires lives well beyond our own.

The creative story goes on...

Re: Shenmue III @Gamescom '17 Discussion - Yu's at a party

According Yu Suzuki , the main story will take 20 hours to finish. Add 20 another hours to complete the secondary quests.

Interesting numbers. So based on these initial figures, Shenmue III's main story spans at least as long as Shenmue I and has more extras to explore than Shenmue I and II:

Re: Famitsu Interview with Yu Suzuki @ GamesCom

Big thank you to Mr. Switch, as always.

This new Deep Silver funding may be the biggest news in Shenmue history.

Yu-san seemed adamant emphasizing that this new partnership will now enable Shenmue III to aim well beyond initial visions.

From this point forward, we may see drastic enhancements to Shenmue III's production, depth, and scale.

LET'S GET BEEFY !!!

Re: New Logo Implications for Shenmue 1&2 HD

Good point.

Maybe Yu can release his logo for Japan or special Director's Cut Edition and have the original logo be used Internationally.

A heartfelt compromise.

Re: "Unlike Shenmue II it won't use the Virtua engine."

As with all worries, it all goes back to having faith in Ys Net.

Many in the development team made Shenmue what it was.

And they can make Shenmue III what it needs to be now.

We can give our outside opinions, but they call the final shots.

The faith we had in saving Shenmue III is the same faith we'll need now seeing it made.

Re: Yu Suzuki: "I can make the whole game you imagined"

Moving up the destination, for the sake of an ending, never was Shenmue's destiny.

Why rush to finish in a couple years after waiting nearly 20 years for this opportunity?

Shenmue is a spiritual pilgrimage which is all about the journey.

Patience is a virtue.

Epiphany isn't the ending.

Revelations are in roads.

Re: Militia Marketing/Ensuring Success

Perhaps, we can fund billboards, "Have you see any Sailors? Call 1-800-Shen-mue" that turns into a real life promotional Shenmue-esque mystery?

or perhaps, we try to get a Shenmue III trailer in theaters around the world?

"A sequel nearly 20 years in the making..." may spark some interest in the mainstream alone.

We can even promote a backer-created puzzle in Shenmue III that the first solvers win a prize for?

I don't know. We have to try something.
