Re: Happy Birthday Topic

What a day. Slept until ten, put together the lego set (love it! Now to find where to put it...) Went to see Brave, hit Best Buy to take advantage of their summer blow out sale. No Metroid, Dragon Age or psp flash sticks sadly, they didn't even have any 2gb sticks left for $1.99 much less the 4gb variants. I walked away with some psp ear buds and a umd case for $2 each instead. Went out with friends, ate some BBQ wings, then went out for two games of bowling. Came home for some delicious strawberry cake. :D All and all, probably the sweetest and most wonderful day I've had all year.

Re: Rep gone?

I worked hard to post just enough solid gold to reach 13th place , then post just enough to maintain that perfect place, never more, never less, like the time I reached the perfect number of posts, so I stopped posting, and a great hero spoke for me.

My Captains, ye know not what OCD goals ye have destroyed!

Re: Im Lance Armstrong and Ive won 0 Tour De France titles

France has been spiteful of the US ever since we liberated them from Nazi Germany. I can't say for a fact if he ever doped or not, though there is no proof, nor is it fair to strip someone of their accomplishments based on an accusation and a hunch. I suspect many of his colleagues have doped at one point or another, that would account for the whole "Give Lance up and we'll look the other way" plea deal they cut them. The whole affair reeks of people willing to send someone else up the river to spare themselves from taking personal accountability for their actions combined with Nationalism of France not being able to accept defeat at the hands of Americans. If he did dope, he does deserve to be held responsible for his actions. But the unending witch hunts and disproportionate amount of scrutiny placed on Armstrong suggests ulterior motives.

Re: Bays TMNT --- They come from space

The script leaked. I'm almost done reading it.

"Jesus fucking christ" is all I can really say. Paramount hated this script so much they ordered them to write another one which is what delayed the project in the first place.

When Hollywood thinks a script is pure trash you know things have hit rock bottom. The turtles to me were the best in the first film. No space aliens, no absurd technology. Just a film with a strong sense of family and occasionally a little darkness with fun along the way.

Re: Gaming thoughts of the day

I'm so afraid of dumping more fuel on the ever expanding fire that I've taken to just abstaining from the bickering and the drama as of late. But I must say at this point that I am continually disappointed and dismayed at the threads of community repeatedly and continually being ripped out in the face of increasingly polarized opinions and my way or the high way mentalities and drama. Why can't you all agree to disagree when one view contrasts another? Why can't you all treat each other respectfully and talk out your problems with more compassion for what someone else is feeling or thinking on the subject?

Maybe it's not the Dojo. I see increasing disparity and tense, boiling over stress and anxiety in us or them mentalities and team forming in every facet of our society. Rich versus poor, Democrats versus Republicans, big corporate third party developers and smaller, struggling independent ones. Sometimes I fear our natures will tear each other apart if we don't start expecting better of ourselves.

Re: Deletion/Moving of the Junk forum

I don't agree with everything AG says, but I can sympathize with his over all sentiment somewhat. I recognize the dojo less and less lately. Not even unmodding Ryudo, which everyone felt was the shinning silver bullet to all the problems and drama of the place has panned out quite like everyone may have expected if gaming thought a few days ago was any indication. I still see some deeply fractured cracks in the community that at best seem only obscured by the total overhaul. To be fair, I feel I must give kudos to Yama for trying so hard in what he feels are all great changes to the site. Passion to make things better is commendable even if ones views cannot always be reconciled with the same vision. Stagnation can just as easily cause as much harm as the wrong change. All the more so, that he would acknowledge and address concerns from animegamer rather than brushing such sentiments under the rug.

I just feel some what of a sting when I see an iconic board like the junk forum that has always been a part of the dojo up and deleted outright. It was never the most philosophical place of discussion, but I think it helped add to the over all flavor and personality of the place. It had qualities that are harder to quantify than something one can place on a spread sheet. When I was a moderator, I likely would have agreed with all of this. My view of perfection was total order. No clutter, no disorganization. Rules always enforced to the letter in a black and white interpretation of a terms of service. It's only now in my later years that I see some what of an intangible quality that is lost in the apparent squashing of any perceivable chaos.

In any event, the dye is cast and no ones opinion can halt change forever. Ryudo's staff departure marks a polarizing in the staffs resolve to overrule any form of dissension that contrasts the greater vision and is a reality we must all come to terms with if we are to stay. I am forced to consider the possibility that perhaps this is in fact the Shenmue Dojo as it was intended to be at this stage in it's life and members like Ryudo/Animegamer and myself are just relics of a begone era that are now the odd piece out in the new order, not the elements we now find alien to ourselves. Our dojo is now dead and a new dojo for a new generation has taken it's place. The last remnants of the old republic have been swept away. Such is the will of the Force. I would call upon animegamer and ryudo at this point to let the remainder of this matter go. There is no more to be further accomplished.

Re: Post a PM

Ryudo it is not appropriate to argue with other members over what you think is a rule violation. We are regular members now. If you feel QWERTY has violated one of the rules, you can report the post to the staff so they can take a look at it and determine if action on their end is necessary. After you do that, consider your job is done. Nothing more is to be gained from that point in further back and forth.

I did report his posts and the most action I have seen is just a mod thanking your post. But no action taken.

So until the staff make a determination, what more do you think you can accomplish here personally? Do you believe QWERTY will potentially be persuaded by your opinion to back off? That seems unlikely. Will you continue to argue your message until one of you is banned? I don't want to see that happen. I haven't familiarized myself with all the technicalities of the rules lately, so I cannot say one way or the other if a rule is being broken here (perhaps I should brush up) But either way, you are not helping yourself, or anyone else here with further escalation. You've reported the post and stated your case. Until the mods confer, take a step back and give them time to make their determination.

Re: Random Thoughts! v2.0

All of it comes down to an assumption. Do you know for certain kids will be bullied?

Of course he does. The same way people knew desegregating the army was going to break down cohesion in the unit/be the harbinger of our destruction. The same way people knew allowing gays to enlist openly in her majesty's royal army and years later in the US army was going to break down cohesion in the unit/be the harbinger of our destruction. The same way people knew allowing gays to marry, have the same rights as everyone else and even adopt children was going to be a disaster when it went down in Britain. There really isn't any need for any of us to debate further. Trying to convince Mittens otherwise may as well be as successful as trying to convince Dorian to adopt a chipper attitude towards life. :P

Re: Random Thoughts! v2.0

Finally got my main PC repaired with somewhat better parts than it had before it broke down and am riding a bit of a high at the moment. :D My framerate in games went from a barely playable 1-20fps on Low on the decade old machine I had been using while getting the funds together to 130-180 using the same settings, or around 60-70fps with all quality settings on ultra. Everything also loads significantly faster, no doubt as a result of having a 64 bit cpu and OS. I owe Yukio a lot for sending me an unused copy and key of Windows Vista 64 for free, not even asking for shipping. Kudos to you, friend!

Re: Things that pissed you off

I found the integrated audio rear panel doesn't work on my motherboard despite enabling everything in bios/getting latest drivers/inserting all the audio jacks firmly in the appropriate color coded inputs and configuring all the sound options correctly. I have a sound card, but the only pci slot not covered by my video card is going towards my dial up modem so it's a case of no internet or no sound. I'm still within range of doing a RMA with newegg, but I really don't want to be unscrewing and generally taking everything apart and putting it back together again after a couple weeks of waiting for the back and forth with shipping with no working computer.

Re: Last Game/System/Peripheral You Bought

Don't even get me started on that. kotor 1 and 2 were building up to a plot suggesting that Revan was conquering the galaxy in order to save it from a far greater threat looming (serious Sith by blood as opposed to Sith following an ideal) that the Republic, corrupt and failing as it was stood no chance of surviving on it's own. It makes you think that Revan and Exile were going to converge at some point and fight that new conflict their own way, to help give the republic time to prepare. Unfortunately instead of getting a kotor 3 with a grand climax topping off the story we got another mmo in a genre that has far too many already. (Which as I understand it just does a "lawl 300 years laterz", blatantly skipping over the momentum the first two games established.) It's like if the star wars trilogy started with the death of the emperor and everything being all well and good in general, but still a few loose plot threads and a evil here and there. Leftovers. Nothing epic. kinda weak.

To KOTOR 2's credit though, I really have to applaud the depth of it's story. kreia is probably the most interesting character in the mythos, painting the force as an all enslaving entity that conscripts us all into it's web of service to do battle on it's behalf in destroying it's polar opposite. Going so far as to suggest that accepting the power of the force is a bargain in exchange for having your priorities and goals in life change to being a foot soldier in squashing the other side is pretty controversial, yet not entirely unlikely. Kotor 2 teaches the lesson that sometimes always trying to help people, even with the best of intentions, can sometimes weaken them in the grand scheme.

Re: Member count...

Something is amiss with the guests these days. I can't chalk it up to some grand Dojo revival. I mean, back in the day you have some 10-20 registered, 5 hidden and maybe 2-3 guests. Now it's like 10-20 registered, 5 hidden and 200 guests. Clearly they aren't just the random dojo-er in the middle of logging in or viewing the board on a public computer, none of the other metrics have scaled nearly as high. At the same time the point when there were only a couple of guests online at a time dates back to when a google search on Shenmue saw the Dojo top the list. Now the Dojo is like 5 matches down. Less spotlight but 100 times the number of guests than in the past? I'd be quicker to believe bots than an army of unique anonymous shenmue fans reading up like never before.

Finally back online with my data allowance renewed. Gonna have to find out how to make 15G last me a month :???:

I'll trade you my dial up. On the down side it only downloads at 5kb's a second. But on the PLUS side it has NO caps and UNLIMITED downloading a month! :D

Re: Random Thoughts! v2.0

Completely exhausted. Took my mother to the hospital for her back pain injections, looked around town and applied to 5 places, caught up with two old references after a couple dozen calls and transfers, coordinated delivery of my new bed and used furniture for the apartment tomorrow between two different places, arranged for Time Warner to take up my internet in the new place (broadband, hooray) and moved a tv I bought in a local thrift store with the buildings flat bed on wheels into the new place along with clothes and odds and ends. I hope to move in tomorrow.

Resume?! What are the qualifications that need to be specified? Sitting on your ass all day, scratching your nuts while you watch porn?

Back in the day when people would ask that question here I would tell them they needed to write a 6 page essay (size 12 font, single spaced, Aerial type face) on why they want to be a moderator and would excel in the role and to submit it to whiteShadow, whom would check for spelling and grammar mistakes. Also one mistake would equal "disqualification" or some such. I don't know if anyone ever bought it, though if they did I doubt they ever "passed".

Re: Where did Henry Go?

Eh come on, it can't be that difficult. Make sure people follow the rules, which at the 'Dojo I'm guessing simply means; making sure people's little rucks don't turn into all-out forum war (preferably by extinguishing the flames as soon as you notice them start), moving topics posted in the wrong area, merging stuff that doesn't need to be separate, and finally by keeping an eye out for bots and other undesirables which only join up to advertise things.

Amirite?

Becoming mod can carry a brief elation, though it is shortly lived. It can fracture friendships, as well as the way people you never had a problem with personally look at you. There comes a point were the fatigue from having to be "the decider" in matters of unending drama can take their toll. And it's never the black and white situations that are complicated, it's the thousands of shades of gray in between. There will be times when your knee-jerk reaction to snot faced members trying to call you out leaves you wanting to bop them in the nose, but you can't. A mod always has to be above fanning the flames of drama and has to be reserved in their responses. I think being given a mod title can be associated with prestige, or it being an honor in most regulars minds. But at the end of the day, putting out fires and taking flack for doing so can gradually over the years make you a little bitter to the point where there is no such "status" with being a mod any more, it's only worth it if you really love the community and want to help keep it healthy even if people come to resent you for doing so. The effect is subtle over time I suppose, but it is cumulative, like a snow ball effect. Think of it as being Batman, only not as cool. :P

Re: Where did Henry Go?

I once contemplated suicide. Hell, even now life is and always will be tough with exceptionally little in the way of reprieves. But when my world came crashing down all around me and I had no choice but to stop being in denial over feeling like a woman on the inside, that brought me to a dark place I was not prepared to deal with or preserver through one little bit. Even after being in denial, feeling trapped, like in a prison with no hope for parole or escape very nearly pushed me over the edge. A lot of people think taking your own life is cowardly. It practically means nothing to say you're thinking about it. I hear people say things like that all the time. Ironically I never told anyone, until now, and probably came a lot closer than those that did. Personally, I think it takes an awful lot of nerve to suppress that natural instinct of self preservation and go through with finally pulling the trigger than most would imagine. Ultimately though it's because of cases like this, when everyone you touched in your life loses it in their own downward spiral in the face of your demise that I think I could not see it through.

Heya Henry. I'm so very sorry to hear about the friend. Some may disagree, but I think if your friend worked up the will to take their life, then the emotional turmoil they must have been dealing with must have been absolutely terrible and you should take some small shred of consolation in the fact that they are likely in a better place now. What is important to do now is to not blame yourself. Your friend would not want you slipping down into your own downward spiral. Be strong. Sometimes the people closest to us are taken from us long before their time.
