At the recent MAGIC Monaco event Yu Suzuki granted several interviews with representatives of the Shenmue fan community.

Amongst the outlets honored with the chance to extract more information from Suzuki-san on Shenmue 3 was the Shenmue 500K group on Facebook, whose interview is now available to read in full on their website Shenmue500K.net .

Topics include: character design, flashback scenes, sound effects, large-scale battles, the new combat system, fishing, and conflicting backer demands!

A few days ago Corey posted a status on Facebook, and a fan asked him when VO recording for the English dub begins. Corey replied that currently the plan is for him to begin in late May.

While it's possible things could slip, seems the intention is to begin recording ASAP.

I must be out of my mind to only issue a ban for a week, but as i said, this place isn't what it was. I wouldn't say that. They completely revamping the controls, redoing the UI from scratch as well as adding options for both Japanese and English audio. None of these things are exactly easy feats.

I'm ecstatic that we're getting a physical release of Shenmue 1+2 on modern consoles. Just don't give Sega any credit for merely hopping on the gravy train. The fans and YS resurrected the series. Now Sega will cash in with a minimal effort.

Sega has already sunk anywhere from $40-70 million into this. Now they're investing more for these releases.

NPCs definitely need to improve, but again it's probably just a case of a better production process that could improve that.

Like for example, Peter posted that old article from the Dojo main site a while back about the voice actor for the English dub of II having to stretch themselves to ridiculousness just to find the different voices required by the voice director, when he explicitly told his agent that he couldn't take jobs with that amount of range.

Ultimately the people at fault there were the agent and voice director, rather than the actor.

Credit to mjqjazzbar for finding this out, but the Sound Director in the image is Takayuki Nakamura who has been working in sound on video games for nearly 30 years; including AM2 titles like Virtua Fighter/Virtua Fighter 2, and Daytona USA.
