The Shenmue community has launched a fundraiser for a cat shelter in Japan caring for pets abandoned in the earthquake-affected area of Fukushima.

The campaign's feline ambassador, Princess Genki, and her human aide Lisle Wilkerson invite you to support the non-profit, donations-reliant shelter and demonstrate the same heart of gold shown by Ryo Hazuki towards the orphaned kitten in Yamanose.

One of the many people helping to spread the word on Friday about the new Shenmue Heart of Gold campaign was Ryuji Iuchi, the man behind some of the most iconic tunes on Shenmue's illustrious soundtrack.

"Amazing!" he said on Twitter when sharing the link to the fundraising page owned by Japan Cat Network.

We encourage all fans to get behind this as well, demonstrating the valuable lessons of Shenmue and a reason why the next generation of gamers should have the chance to be inspired by Ryo Hazuki's encounters at the beginning of the series.

British website Rice Digital is reporting that, according to "a trusted source close to Atlus USA," HD remasters of Shenmue 1 and 2 will be released this year, with it being "safe to assume a PC/Steam release."

Shenmue 3 co-producer Cédric Biscay of Shibuya Productions has been interviewed by French website ActuGaming , discussing the upcoming sequel and other projects.

On the game's expected release date , Cédric confirmed that while plans may evolve later in development if any last minute problems should arise, at this present time "Shenmue 3 is still scheduled to be released in December 2017."

On the possibility of Sega releasing HD remasters of Shenmue 1 & 2, Cédric gave his opinion that "it seems logical," and that "what we would really like is that they come out before the release of Shenmue 3" to help them with marketing the sequel and enable new players to experience the original chapters before discovering the next part of the story.

Also discussed in the interview is the lateness of Microsoft to the party, withholding its interest until the longstanding risks of reviving the series had all been taken by other companies. Currently, the confirmed platforms for Shenmue 3's release are PC and PlayStation 4.

After a huge turnout from both the press and public visitors at Gamescom in Germany, the head of Shenmue 3 publisher Deep Silver in France wants to know where they should bring the game's director Yu Suzuki next year.

A primary school for underprivileged children in Guilin, China, has recently received a donation of 166 books, paid for by Chinese fans of the Shenmue series of video games partly set in the remote area. [Read more]

It's the latest chapter in a remarkable story that began during Shenmue III's Kickstarter campaign in 2015. Two American brothers volunteering at the elementary school donated substantial personal funds to the crowdfunding appeal, hoping to use the associated perks to draw wider attention to the school and its needs.

Before such rewards could even be finalized, media coverage of their intentions caught the eyes of the Chinese Shenmue fan community, which set about honoring the brothers' contributions to the game by donating equipment and materials to the school.

In December of that year, 200 books were delivered to the young children, followed in May 2016 by a brand new projector. One fundamental snag, however: the school's bare external windows made the classroom too bright to see the projections - so by the end of the year fans had also donated curtains!

The latest donation of a further 166 books really highlights the scale of compassion and generosity inspired by Yu Suzuki's Shenmue saga, with a fan community so committed to giving these kids in Guilin a better start in life.

At the recent MAGIC Monaco event Yu Suzuki granted several interviews with representatives of the Shenmue fan community.

Hello Dojo! As you're probably aware by now, Shenmue I+II are available to preorder , which brings a close to the #SaveShenmueHD campaign. So what happens next?

This Thursday, May 3rd, marks the 75th edition of the monthly Shenmue Tweetathon, so there's no better opportunity as an organized community to celebrate #ShenmueSaved, the hashtag chosen by Sega to promote their upcoming release.
