Re: Sega Europe comments on Shenmue

Neogaf user @Endless posted a screen capture of the actual article from Marketing Week (was able to access it again) and apparently, the line about re-release of Shenmue 1 & 2 is there:

http://anony.ws/i/2015/10/27/marketingweek.jpg

Neogaf thread source --> http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=183082970&postcount=165

Note that the part about the Kickstarter campaign is now correct.

PS. I registered myself and I can confirm the line is there (Did a printscreen too).

Re: Sega Europe comments on Shenmue

Some slight cause for hope!

There are two options about this part of the article in my opinion.

1. It's some elaborate fake for clickbait/buzz.
2. The Sega Europe marketing director Jon Rooke actually said something close to "Sega is exploring ways to re-release the original two Shenmue titles."
Maybe said it to soon, of records or by mistake, who knows...

I asked directly Jon Rooke about this article. Even if I doubt he's going to answer me back, I had to try.

Re: Sega Europe comments on Shenmue

I wasn't expecting them to announce anything until next E3, but if they're already buttering us up like this it means they're either:
- being dicks and getting our hopes up over nothing
- jumping the gun on trying to build hype
- almost ready to reveal something Shenmue related

The "fun" fact is that all of your three options are realistic :-#

Re: Kickstarter Update #47

I think some here were right about one thing:

It would be better if they don't show anything at all to the fans, because after only three month in the dev, there are already people complaining about the quality of the graphics, asking for something "mindblowing" like Shenmue was 16 years ago.

The budget is what it is. They won't be able to do miracles on the technical aspect.

And you know what? I don't care. I want the "Shenmue feeling", no more, no less.

This, is exactly how I picture the Shenmue "atmosphere" in my mind:

Re: Kickstarter Update #47

December 2017 is just a slated release date. Do you expect them to not have a estimated release date at all? Because that's far worse. Why must you be so demanding of everything involved, even a reasonable release date that means two and a half years of development? Just seems like you're complaining to complain rather than just seeing where this all goes.

He's refusing to accept a paypal window of more then a few months, because it will get in the way of his desired release date(that was Yu's reason he gave, for only having Paypal available for such a short time).

Trust me, Yu has "no" intention what so ever, in allowing Shenmue 3 to take longer the 2 years.

Either Yu is rushing or he truly has no clue on how long games take to develop, when you don't have 300 people helping with it lol.

Quite the contrary. Having a limited Paypal campaign makes a lot of sense to me. They need to have a defined budget and be able to prioritize the developpment accordingly.

Beside that, how do you think Yu Suzuki is going to pay his employees if the developpment lasts 42 month instead of 30?

You make your criticism sound so easy, but how would YOU handle this project given the unusual circumstances?

Re: New Members Introduce Yourself!

Hello Shenmue Community,

Just a few words to introduce myself.

I'm from Switzerland and I'm 41 years old.

I played Shenmue I & II when they came out for Dreamcast a life ago and as many of you, fell desperately in love with the saga created by Suzuki San. The dream of seeing the sequel of Ryo's adventures one day never left me and as you can imagine, the annoucement of the Kickstarter back in june just sent me to the moon emotionally speaking.
I've of course backed the game and now the long wait for the dream becoming reality begins...

I've followed Shenmuedojo in the last years but never had the "heart" to register.

I would like to thank the guys at Shenmue Dojo for everything they've done this whole time and I would like to thank the whole community from the bottom of my heart to make the rebirth of Shenmue real.

So proud to be part of this family.

(Shenmue III) will not be Call of Duty but it will be a really good PS4 game with easily the current standing .

? I don't understand what the "with easily the current standing" means.

I've listened to this part of the interview and Cédric basically says that Shenmue III will look like a good PS4 game and easily meet the PS4 standards. "It will not look like a PS2 game."

Yokosuka probably meant to translate his phrase with "will easily meet the current PS4 standards".

Re: Cédric Biscay interview by Desert Bus de l'Espoir (15/11

It's a shame Yu feels he has to shut the press out on Shenmue because of how they've spun things so far, but I really can't blame him considering the baffling level of vitriol and total lack of desire to do the proper research before publishing articles that has been rife with press commentary on Shenmue 3.

I would make the vision of this (passionate and full of humour) video mandatory for any journalist who intend to write down an article about Shenmue with absolutely no knowledge about the game history.

Re: Kickstarter Monthly update

People calm down. :)

There will be an update before the end of the year, I'm pretty sure about that.

If not about Shenmue 3 development (As others, I can easily live with it as far as we know development is on track and goes smoothly. The China conference news are more than positive from this point of view) at least about the Slacker Backer campaign.

Cédric Biscay stated several times that PC rewards will come before the end of the PayPal campaign and there are no reasons so far, not to trust him.

Beside that... I still have some hopes about a Playstation Experience annoucement/update.
This would be a perfect time to give a few more info, about Shenmue 3 or (from the most optimistic angle) even Shenmue HD and give the PayPal campaign, a final boost.

Re: Kickstarter Monthly update

I had no intention to be offensive towards anybody Yokusuka :)

As I wrote in this topic or another one, i don't remember to be honest... from a backer point of view I expect to be informed on a regular basis. The first example to come to my mind is the material presented in China. I hope as a backer, to get good quality pictures or videos from the event. Not because I deserve them, but because I think low res videos and screen captures from the venue could damage the actual quality of their work (like the PC used for the presentation beeing too slow to animate correctly the in-house sequences.)

Now, I don't expect one update every 30 days... even if Suzuki San promised to do his best to keep backers informed.
They have priorities and backers update certainly are time consuming. Since I'm aware we might see no update at the end of the year, start of the new year, I would be more than happy to have a combined update for november/december. Especially if this update comes along the PSX event next saturday.
Every single Shenmue fan is aware of the smallest Shenmue related news within hours... but it's absolutely not the same situation for casual gamers or people who know nothing about this game.

Those casual gamers and newcomers are more important than backers for now... well, at least until PayPal campaign ends. That's why I really hope for some annoucement during Playstation Experience and before Slacker Backer deadline.

When all the cards will be played and all the funds gathered, then I will expect to be as a backer, the first to get news about the project. Now, just to clarify Yu Suzuki position and possible lack of communication... Kickstarter and PayPal campaign are Awesome Japan responsability. When Yu was in China, he kept us informed with great tweets. He wanted to share with fans his journey through future Shenmue 3 sceneries.

Same logic (imo) goes for Cédric Biscay. I think it could be detrimental in the long run to harass him with issues out of his control. For now he tries to share and communicate with fans... but it's up to him to decide whether it is worthwhile or not.

Re: Is Shenmue IV a possible reality at this point?

Well, I admire your dedication to Shenmue and your 2016 good resolution of getting rid of caffeine  but my point is that I really hope Shenmue IV will be released someday because of the commercial success of episode 3 and hopefully remasters of 1 & 2, instead of the hardcore fanbase making miracles again and again.

With the rebirth of the Serie during 2015 E3 and the media exposition since then, I think it's the good time for Shenmue (and Yu Suzuki) to get the recognition he deserves from the "gaming world". If things don't work out this time... then I'm afraid there is a significant possibility we won't see the end of the saga.

That said, I would support every Kickstarter aimed to help development of the forthcoming episodes.

By the way... #SaveShenmueHD Tweetathon is round the corner .That's something we fans, can do to help Shenmue's fate.

Re: Kickstarter Update 51: Poll Results & Shenmue.link revam

Well, that's a disappointing turn of events (and unexpected as far as i'm concerned).
Are they going to propose the PC rewards or upgrades for KS backers at this point? I doubt it.

I'm starting to think that the sooner they close the Slacker Backer Campaign and concentrate their time ONLY on the development, the better it is.

The money is not enough? Well, they are free to keep searching for external funds or/and they can try to do their best with the money they have.

Re: Kickstarter Update 51: Poll Results & Shenmue.link revam

AJ have just been poor in general overall, I mean, look at the images they're using to promote the game, they look like copy and paste jobs using paint, all of the images apart from the original artwork are extremely over the top and poor. I bet the font for Shenmue 3 is something they chose aswell, it seems to be littered against everything they touch and if you notice anything that Yu Suzuki does to promote the game uses the original Shenmue font. I hate the new font, and I don't think it's licensing issues, I just think it's a straight up lazy job AJ are doing that they can't spare a few minutes to change all the images that they've already "produced". That happy new year cartoon animation is a joke...what have monkey heads got to do with anything? Just looks like they've grabbed random clip art images and added 2 or 3 frames of movement to them. The new website, imo looks worse than the old one, they are covering up "Shenmue 3" in the only cool looking part of the site - the oversized video - with the new column on the right handside (atleast on my browser) and also for today atleast, it's incredible slow. They always make spelling and grammatical errors, and i'm not saying that I never make errors, but i'm not being paid to write this post.

Do we want to talk about the gallery? (Hey, the Village Hut is back :D )

They should have used the non mirrored picture... or at least cut it.

Re: Kickstarter Update 51: Poll Results & Shenmue.link revam

I already said it, but in my opinion, they need to close the PayPal campaign as soon as possible.
The potential image damage caused by the lack of PC rewards, upgrades and now the way those polls (yes...two polls!) have been handled is not worth the funds they can gather by extending the campaign.

Unless they announce within a few days PC rewards and upgrades (which should have been available since the begining of the Slacker Backer Campaign... do I need to point this out?) the extension has no purpose anymore.

If AJ knew how to handle Marketing and communication, the funds collected could have been significantly higher, but what is done is done and maybe it's time to move on to next stage and close the budget.

One of my worries about Shenmue 3 is that Yu Suzuki has to much to deal with, when he should concentrate mainly on the development, talents scouting, research and storytelling. The lack of a publisher like SEGA or Sony to take care of funding, Marketing and PR is just obvious after witnessing how weak AJ have been at doing their job. Fans communities have done a lot in order to help, spread the word, organize events like raffles or 30 on the 3rd (to name a few) and last but not least damage control some bad press. Truth is, fans can't keep the PayPal campaign alive on their own.

The irony is that I'm still waiting for the upgrades to come so I can raise my KS pledge but I can easily imagine that one morning the campaign will be over with my extra money still in my pocket. Of course I could simply choose other rewards or simply donate this money... but won't I look like an idiot if the upgrades show up the day after I give my contribution to PayPal? How many fans are in my exact same situation and how much money does that mean (69'000 KS backers guys...) ?
Again, it is how it is because of the way the PayPal campaign has been handled and in my opinion... It's a shame... or missed opportunity if you prefer.

Re: Kickstarter Update 51: Poll Results & Shenmue.link revam

The worst part is AJ isn't savvy enough to contact the press and correct their mistakes. They just let the misinformation they caused spread. I really don't blame the journalists.

It's all the opposite for me. What could have done AJ or any other PR team, this campaign would be bashed. And everyone is surprised when developers have to invest million of dollars into promotion instead production to get rid of these fools. It's not as like the information was unclear. Really, way too much unprofessionalism right there.

@Kiske : I read all the previous updates since the Paypal launch and I found no promises. I doubt they were from the twitter account.

It could be a good move from AJ to come with new exclusive rewards for Paypal backers at this point.

Post an update to shut up the clickbaits about the PayPal rewards status and cheer up the potential new backers.

Dear Shenmue fans, dear backers, as you know we couldn't offer the Kickstarter Exclusive rewards in the Slacker Backer campaign but the bad news stops here! We are offering new exclusive Slacker Backer Campaign rewards such as "PS4 Physical copy Dreamcast Case style" , "Exclusive Slacker backer Scroll Move combo pack"...

Re: Kickstarter Update 51: Poll Results & Shenmue.link revam

If it's any consolation, I bet my physical PS4 copy of Shenmue 3 that we would have endured the same bashing from the same clickbaits medias who are spreading false news now, if AJ/YsNet decided to make the exclusive rewards available for slacker backer campaign.

I almost see the article title: "Greedy Yu Suzuki breaks rewards exclusivity for a few more bucks despite 25% of the voters were clearly against this!"

I'm wondering... where are the professional journalists? Where are the honest articles ready to restore the truth about a bad communication ok, but definitely an attempt of "Awesome Japan" to do the right thing?

The bashing has been so harsh since E3 announcement that sometimes I have the feeling it's fuelled by interests bigger than our small but beloved Shenmue franchise. Maybe it wouldn't be so biased if Shenmue 3 was multiplatform... If you know what I mean?

In order to give you a thorough understanding of yesterday discussion I had with Thomas Hobbs, here's the end of our "chat" on Twitter:

@thobbsjourno @segafans Thanks for the answer. Hopefully you read correctly between the lines in the Shenmue related part of your interview!

@KosiCosa I'm confused. Nothing changed. It is a marketing publication so Shenmue info was paraphrased/not 100% quoted. Hope that clarifies?

He sent me another tweet but apparently deleted it in the meantime.
I still have it on my Twitter iPhone app though.
@KosiCosa I'm just as excited they are 'exploring ways' for a HD remake. About bloody time!

@thobbsjourno You're a Shenmue fan too I guess? If so, YES, I understand your excitement! Thanks again for your kind replies! #SaveShenmueHD

In all honesty, I don't really understand why Magic Monaco staff asked Cédric to take care of the Shenmue Forever original tweet. It didn't seem to be related to this "amazing new thing" they will announce during Magic Monaco and about which Cédric tweeted a few days ago.

That said I totally agree with you about Magic Monaco beeing a lot more than just an event revolving around Shenmue 3. I sincerely hope this event will gain some reputation worldwide and become a major event for pop-culture (anime, cosplay and videogames), at least in Europe...

As for hyped and crazy reactions of Shenmue fans for every piece of tease, I'm sure Cédric is well aware of how crazy (but at the same time passionate) the Shenmue fans are.
