Having the ileostomy bag is definitely a crazy change, and gearing up for the next surgery will prove equaly chalenging, im just going to rest up and continue to heal in the mean time. made it through part 1 gentlemen, and it was tough but now i gotta hit the reset button and get ready for part 2 in the coming months, will keep everyone posted about it.

Re: how does your gameroom look like??

Some truly amazing and inspiring setups here! Much more focused and in one spot then I have it.
So many systems bunched up under the TVs, magnificent!

I made some photos of my room, wich is rather uniquely differently constructed. Basically a clockwise toor around it.
It's a small room and I also have to sleep there so space has to be used wherever possible and as efficient as possible. So my stuff is spread everywhere and almost the entire wall area is covered. I'd rather have some nice shelves from the floor to the ceiling and all but the setup still has it's own charme..

Winter Heating in Japan | Shenmue Realism

Today's post on the Phantom River Stone blog looks at some of the realistic detail depicted in Shenmue relating to heating in the 1980s as the Yokosuka winter sets in. Traditionally-built Japanese house like Ryo's are not well suited for keeping the cold out (or the heat in), but ingenious devices such as the kotatsu help to make up for it.

Re: Recent Gaming Purchases

Who the fuck even knew this came out last month?
It's ridiculous how small-scale Natsume's ad campaigns are. I had no friggin idea they'd even settled on a release date for this, much less actually put it out for sale already. Same thing happened recently with River City Ransom on 3DS.
Had to get this from a secondary merchant (it was already officially sold out because of these damn tiny print runs). Still excited for it.

Re: PAYPAL SUPPORT FOR SHENMUE 3 NOW LIVE!

So I've got some funds after my mother passed away so I transfered alot of it on my savings account.
Then I thought "you know, after a really shitty christmas i'm gonna treat myself." So I bought a new phone (because my current has deteriated performance) and well I still had 400 bucks leftover.
Then I thought:" mm might as well support shenmue 3 again and get me that trial version." so I ordered it.
So with 300 to spare I trained my eye on the Nintendo switch when it comes out next year, welp never mind that because I got the signed edition of shenmue 3 too. You know what? I feel alot better now!
Ps:
I didn't forget the dojo and what you guy's have given me so expect some periodic donations aswell.

That's extremely generous, especially at this time. Very sorry for your loss and really respect your ability to do something good with that sorrow. Can't imagine.

Thank-you.

Re: Nintendo Switch

I honestly feel it would do better if they marketed it as the successor to the 3DS, but that you can connect to your TV and play like a home console too optionally.

By positioning it as a home console first (which they keep stressing, saying the portability is secondary to it being a home console,) they create certain expectations which, so far, are not being met imo.

The games are great for me, but the third party support is just not there for a major contemporary home console to be reflected in it. Anyone buying it knows it will automatically have the most inferior versions of multiplats that end up with it at least graphically, and possibly in terms of features due to storage.

For instance, NBA 2K18 is coming to it... but NBA2K17 was over 47GB. Switch has only 32GB on of board storage, so digital sales of NBA 2K18 even if it comes in lighter weight than its predecessor seem unlikely. Physical maybe, sure. But that's it. And more likely, it will be a stripped down, feature-cut iteration. Which may also be why EA's FIFA game on the system is untitled, and not FIFA 2018 or any other definitive title - because it'll be some proprietary, stripped down "special" edition. This is likely why it doesn't look like Skyrim is the remastered edition as well. The vanilla Skyrim clocked in at only 6 - 11 GB... but the special edition is 20+ GB. While SD media can come in any size up to terabytes, obviously nintendo will limit game card size for cost efficiency. For instance, BotW clocks in at 14GB.)

So unless they want to make expensive micro SD expansions mandatory for games, or limit to physical releases... I expect inferior ports of multiplats.

Given the above, and the other issues, and the lack of Mass Effect, Red Dead 2, Resident Evil (rumored but I deem it unlikely personally,) CoD, Battlefield, Assassin's Creed (again, rumored, and we shall see,) this is a big, big handicap they're giving their platform when it costs the same as a PS4, and more than an Xbone.

On the other hand, if it was their new HANDHELD, and had all these games, AND could be played on TV? Now that suddenly looks like a bargain. But then it's not priced as high, and they refuse to sell at a loss. So... there we are.

Again, this is enough for me personally. I'm SUPER excited to be honest. Can't wait. But I have minimal hopes for wide success for the platform sadly.

ETA: Just confirmed Borderlands 3 won't be coming to it either because, "Nintendo has other priorities." See, this is what I'm talking about. People can say, "Meh I don't like _____" anyway. About one game that's all well and good. But when the laundry list of third party major releases unannounced and probably not coming for it is this long, and their competition literally has Mass Effect etc. launching within their launch window... that's really hard to ignore for the average gamer who isn't a hardcore Nintendo fan. (Like I am, since I'm hopelessly enamored with anything nostalgic. I mean, that's why I'm here after all lol.)

Re: Nintendo Switch

Wait, you pay tax over the initial 300 dollars the switch costs? Sorry I've never really understood the tax system in the states.
Any purchase at any retailer is going to come with sales tax added onto the bill in the US. I believe the amount of tax varies between the states, but in my state 6% is added onto every purchase. That makes a $300 console effectively cost $318 once tax is added.

Re: Nintendo Switch

Yep. For me, at Amazon, the total price for Switch, a charging grip, an additional adapter (so I can power the dock and the charging grip at the same time,) and Breath of the Wild, it comes to $443 USD. (Well, 442 and some change, but I round up.)

I'm down. I'm ready. That last Zelda trailer makes me cry EVERY time I watch it lol. The only other thing that has done that to me... is watching reactions to the Shenmue III reveal. :) System has problems/concerns imo, but I'm still down for it. Within the first year I'll definitely be buying (in addition to Zelda,) Fire Emblem Warriors, Mario Odyssey, and if it's not delayed, Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Third party worries me, but that's more than enough for me launch year.

Re: Resident Evil VII

Completed my first playthrough today and I'm very happy with it. I'll keep it short and sweet. It's a fun game and most of all a solid Biohazard, something I haven't said in a while.

I played mainly via PSVR and also via PS4Pro at 4K/HDR. It's nice to see Biohazard pushing technical boundaries once again, the RE Engine looks stunning and performs flawlessly at 60fps. The sense of immersion in VR is a first of it's kind, at times so good it's uncomfortable. I found the entire experience to be extremely natural. For example if I was hiding behind a corner while not in VR, I'd side step and take a peek, thus leaving the character vulnerable. In VR however, I'd remain behind the corner but simply stick my head out a bit to take a look, just as you would in a real life situation. This extra sense of immersion tops off an already well crafted atmosphere that stands tall on it's own.

The atmosphere, layout, inventory management, combat, files, puzzles and flow of the game all closely resemble classic Biohazard. Enemy flow however seems a bit different at first, mainly because there isn't a low tier enemy type (zombie) filling the area. Molded are a higher tier (and range between types), though do become the games default enemy over time. This fresh take shakes up the flow a bit, though still stays true to the classic formula.

Biohazard once pushed the envelope with pre-rendered, then OTS and now VR/FP. While this may be the series biggest departure yet, it's also the most familiar entry in a decade. Going first person wasn't a cop out, it was a venture into the VR space and therefore the future. At it's core however, this is a classic title in the same vein as Rebirth or Zero. It's a lot of what we wanted, a little bit of what the series needed and a damn fine soft boot.

Shenmue - Save Anywhere (EUR/USA/JAP)

Shenmue - Save Anywhere
(EUR/USA/JAP)

Special thanks to

> [DOWNLOAD] <

Compatibility
Tested under Windows 10 (x64), with:
> nullDC v1.0.4 (Apr. 28, 2014), also known as "Shenmue Edition"
> DEMUL v0.7 alpha (Aug. 18, 2016)

What is it?
Anyone ever played Shenmue for hours, without saving, during a thunder storm?! Bad idea!
The main purpose of this trainer, as the title suggests, is to allow you to save your game progress anywhere, at any time, bypassing the original restrictions. This trainer was specifically developed to work with Shenmue on DEMUL and nullDC Dreamcast emulators. I also took the liberty to include the latest widescreen hack/patch, developed by Esppiral. Although most people using the widescreen hack will want to use fully patched discs/images (which I highly recommend), I still felt that it could be of some use; you can always disable the patch by unticking the checkbox on the top-left corner. If you're playing with already patched images then the trainer will detect that and ignore it's own patch.

How does it work?
Simple. Open the trainer and boot the game (not necessarily in that order, except for widescreen patch or patched GDRom region) and wait for the trainer to detect the emulator and game. Once you see the STATUS indicating a successful detection then you can use two functions. Let me go over those below:

1. " Save Game " , the first function, which can be called by pressing the respective trainer's button, or using the F11 hotkey, calls the standard save function which by default is only accessible in Ryo's room or in key parts of the game. This save is more trustworthy because it will not be erased after loading the game - we'll get to that in a second. The downside of this function is that, if it is used during any key event or scene, upon loading you will be returned to the point before that scene happens and the player's physical location will be set to the default entry point of that level. Let's say that you save during the first scene between Fuku-san and Ryo, at the dojo. When loading this save you will start just outside the door of the Hazuki Residence's house and the event will have to be played again by entering the dojo. Everything else, like your achievements, items, current time, and story line, will remain intact.

2. " Quick Save " , the second function, which can be called by pressing the respective trainer's button, or using the F12 hotkey, calls the "Resume" type of save that by default is called by accessing the in-game menu and selecting the VMU icon. As you are certainly aware, normally this save option prevents you from playing further once used, and on top of that it gets erased as soon as it is loaded. You may be asking yourself why bother if you can save anywhere using the first function. Well, as you may or may not know, this save method is much more accurate, like a snapshot or an emulator's "save-state" if you will. This means that whatever you might be doing in-game, whether it's a fight or a cut-scene, it will save and load to the exact same point. This trainer can call that save function directly and wait for it to finish saving and then bypass the lock screen returning you to the game as normal. It can also return you to the game if you have already used that save method through the default VMU menu option. There is always one thing to keep in mind, if you rely on this save method frequently then you have a higher probability of losing your game progress since it is always erased after loading, and then we tend to forget things...

My anti-virus flagged this as malware! What gives?!
This trainer was developed using Cheat Engine, and it uses it's resources and drivers to work as it does. The way Cheat Engine works makes it so that a lot of its mechanisms are mistaken as malicious by a lot of reputable anti-virus software. I can guarantee you that, to the best of my knowledge, no malware is shipped with this trainer. Here are the links for VirusTotal analysis:

Note: ESET-NOD32 detection seems to be the most accurate.

Troubleshooting
The first thing that I should mention is that the nullDC version of the trainer can be quite unstable. The reason for this is that nullDC maps memory in a way that forced me to use a kernel driver that is loaded by the trainer and allows the trainer to detect and change parts of the game's memory that would otherwise not be accessible. I don't expect it to crash your game or emulator, it didn't for me, but the trainer itself may crash once in a while. Since we're on the subject, when you open nullDC version of the trainer you will notice a message flashing on the top-left of the screen ('DBKxx LOADED'). This indicates that the trainer has loaded the kernel driver which I mentioned earlier and which it needs in order to work with nullDC. DEMUL trainer is more stable since it doesn't load this kernel driver. No worries though, if you spot any bugs make sure to let me know and I'll have it sorted ASAP.

> The trainer isn't working for me, what can I do?
The first thing to establish is if there was any particular error which the trainer might have given. In case there was an error, let us focus on that... I had no issues but I'm willing to look into it if enough details are given to me. Otherwise, if no error was given, the second thing is to establish what version of the emulator you are using. I released one trainer for nullDC and another one for DEMUL. At the moment of writing I have tested it on both versions mentioned at the top of this 'README'. If indeed you are using one of the emulators above then the next step is to know if the version of Shenmue that you are using is supported by this trainer. I made sure to include compatibility for the 3 main versions of the game (EUR/USA/JAP), if yours isn't detected as supported then I can look into it and try to add support for it.

> When using the save function the game crashes/freezes!
This sort of thing happened a lot to me earlier on, but we're talking during the main phase of research. During the "just-about-to-release" phase these didn't occur at all. But if it happens to you then let me know and I'll see if there is anything I can do to fix it.

> When using the nullDC trainer my computer BSOD'd (crashed)!
I mentioned that nullDC version is somewhat unstable. BSOD is not very common though, in fact it only happened to me a few times until I fine tuned it to be as stable as I could - but it may depend on your CPU. Still, it may happen so make sure that any crucial information is saved in case of a crash. The kernel driver which I mentioned before is probably responsible for that. If it happens, see what particular error is mentioned in the blue-screen and let me know, I'll see if there is anything I can do to sort it out or mitigate as best as possible.

Any other subject not covered above, feel free to leave a comment and I'll try to get back to you when possible.

Enjoy! :)

Iwao Hazuki's China Visit Diagram

In Shenmue I & II Ryo gathered various pieces of information about the visit father made to Hong Kong & Guilin all those years ago, so I've tried to bring these together into a diagram showing some of these relationships and timelines.

The diagram includes some assumptions / guesses, which I talk about here:

Blog post:
http://www.phantomriverstone.com/2017/02/iwao-hazukis-china-visit-diagram-of.html

http://i.imgur.com/QvEB4lR.png

The character of Yuanda Zhu is quite enigmatic, as he seems to change what he says depending on who he is talking to. I don't think he has bad intentions towards Ryo, but I get the feeling he is hiding the true circumstances around the death of Sunming Zhao. It will be interesting to see how (or whether) this is developed in Shenmue III.

Re: Random Thoughts

Well, it looks like things may finally be turning around for me. I have been in the gym the past month, I started back at work a week ago, and it looks like I may be traveling down to South Florida for work and spending over a month down there at the beginning of march. I have been so busy trying to set everything back up, and thinking about what I need to do next, that games were put WAY on the back burner (I didnt buy any of the many good January releases). The month of January was a rough one, but it seems like the frustration and mental fatigue may ultimately be worth it. I feel like I have a refreshed mind set and confidence now to get back to what I need to be doing with my life, I feel like I am over a huge hurdle now as more time passes since my surgery. I feel like I need to just go out there and seize my destiny, if things go as planned, I should be in for a HUGE 2017, and i have been working hard mind and body to make life happen positively. Its so interesting how when you know you body feels great again how that boosts your confidence in your ability to do just about everything else. So after the last 6 or so years of being sick and not feeling healthy, I finally do again and while its not perfect (an ostomy bag is a huge adjustment, but a manageable one) I can finally get back to doing me, the right way, on my terms, and its just a great feeling to have again after such a long time. I am truly blessed.

Shenmue - 360º Panoramas

I'm playing around with panorama software and thought it would be interesting to try and stitch together Shenmue panoramas. It turns out that it is much harder to accomplish than in most 3D games, where you can control the camera steadily. Nevertheless, here's one test that didn't turn out as disastrous as the previous ones:

Hazuki Residence's front yard

The most useful camera mode is zoom mode but it has a few issues of it's own. For one it zooms in and locks onto objects of interest (none on this angle fortunately). The other issue with this camera mode is when you point the camera towards the ground it starts zooming in much further than on other angles.

The normal camera mode is worse though. With normal camera, even though you can make Ryo invisible and make it look as an FPS view, the camera rotation is limited to something like 180º and besides the camera zooms in when reaching it's limits. Rotating the character itself is also not good enough for two reasons, one is that it's limited to the X axis, the other is that the player moves a bit around it's own X axis which changes the angle enough to screw the final result.

If anyone knows any trick/code to rotate the camera axis steadily, that would help make awesome panoramas.

My Florida Trip is going well! I am at my familys in Pompano and there house is right around the corner from the beach! They live in Water Pier neighborhoods so some of these houses you can walk out a back door and there is a dock and boat on the water! Its almost like these water ways are like streets for boats and there are intersections and you can take them out to the ocean from their back yard, so dope.

I went to Miami to check in with one of my works and did a gig at the University of Miami last night since I got hired on with their company for the duration of my stay here in Florida. Ultra Music Festival Miami Build starts for me tomorrow, and im pumped to be in this great city! Lovin it here so far! :)

Re: Random Shenmue Thoughts

I've finally done what it took to remedy one of my biggest mistake Shenmue wise... let my Dreamcast go, games included.

I'm now the proud "dad" (again) of an adopted family of three:
Dreamcast, Shenmue & Shenmue II. :king:

Re: Recent Gaming Purchases

Life is Strange: I really like adventure games and have been wanting to try this one out. Heard great things and it was really cheap so I bought it.

The Walking Dead Season 3: I've been playing through all the walking dead games with my Mom, who watches the show. I also watch the show and read the comics. Games are great, show is great, comic is great. Walking dead is... pretty great.

The Silver Case: Will be my first Suda51 game. I've been looking around for a used copy of Killer7 for a while, but still haven't found one, so I'm going to go ahead and play this one first. Really looking forward to it.

Wild Guns Reloaded: One of the greatest games on the SNES, but way too expensive to think about owning. I've played it through my Flash Cart, but it'll be nice to own this "definitive" version.

I feel like I'm starting to have more PS4 games than my brother... who is the one who actually owns the PS4 lol

Re: Shenmue 3 & E3 2017

I voted Shenmue 3 + Shenmue HD.

Here's my "Fantasy Shenmue" theory, E3 2017 edition. :king:

We know YsNet is working very hard to meet the December 2017 targeted release date and if they make it, June would be not only the perfect time to start the marketing phase about the game, but also the logical time.
This aspect aside, YsNet has been playing their cards very close to their chest, which in my opinion points towards a big reveal of the game at an advanced stage of development. Again, E3 would be perfect for that.
Now about Shenmue HD. The last time we heard official words from SEGA about remasters of Shenmue was in September 2016. Around the same time they registered the domains name related to Shenmue HD. In June, it will be 9 month since the last official words from SEGA. It's seems to me that E3 would be the right occasion to make another step forward, especially if Shenmue 3 makes an appearance. Basically, from a PR point of view, creating a synergy between Shenmue 3 and Shenmue HD during a big show like E3 or TGS, would benefit both SEGA and YsNet.

Finally, I'm wondering why hitting the December 2017 release date is so important?
In this industry, most of the games get delayed, and I'm not even talking about the crowdfunded projects.
I'm aware that the end of the Year is the best time to release games from a sales point of view, but games like Horizon Zero Dawn did very very well (more than 2.6 Million) despite the late February release date. Could it be that Shenmue 3 has to come at the end of 2017 (or at least not to far in 2018) to match with the SEGA planned release of Shenmue HD?

This is all fantasy theory of course, but that's part of the fun while waiting for E3, right?

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts (Read OP Before Posting)

Just spent the last five minutes in shock over the revelation that Peter doesn't drink.

He does. Hes mentioned a few times of trying to cut back for various reasons though. But I think the "Firstly sonny Jim, I don't drink" was just to mess with the store clerk lol. Makes the story better anyway.
