Re: Shenmue Chapter 2 Recruitment

Cant sleep cuz i am so excited about this! Had some great ideas and had to jump out of bed to write them down. Just some scenes that i played through in my mind which had great juxtapositions from both the original game and Shenmue II. When you think about some scenes from Shenmue, and look at the direction of some scenes in Shenmue II, it becomes more clear as to how Suzuki had written the ending to the second boat chapter. Clever man ;-)

Re: Your Favourite Theories

The one i remember is that Ryo fights all the way through the Chiyoumen HQ and finally gets to LanDi, but its where he learns that Lan Di was a puppet for the "Tentai" of the organisation. Lan Di realises that he was on the wrong side all along, and that he, like Ryo is fatherless. Together they take on the entire Chiyoumen Double Dragon style

Re: Shenmue Chapter 2 Recruitment

The only thing is it doesnt have any of the characteristics of a specific type of trading boat. No crates are on it, qnd from what i have looked into its just an old version of an 80s "Ro-Ro ship" which just ferries passengers from Yokosuka to Aberdeen. I have sent a few emails to some maritime enthusiasts to confirm this, and also if they could provide any links or advice regarding 1980s vessels (interior layouts, exterior characteristics, load capacity, popilar Asian routes).

Also sent a few messages asking for the translation of the Kana on the side of the ship.

Re: Your favorite SEGA Console

As much as the DC is my favourite, i absolutely share the thoughts of OL. The Mega Drive II was my first gaming console (Commodore and Amiga hardware do not count) and that damn thing was truely epic. The key word you use is fun and there is no better word to sum up, or describe that age of gaming. Everything about it, from the hardware, games, magazines, adverts, tv based shows.... They all have that fun quality of them and i felt that Sega were the biggest company in terms of the gaming wars even though it realistically went to Nintindy. There was also a sort of attitude to it all, like a bad ass attitude but not an adult themed bad ass attitude, more like a breaking put of the mould type of bad ass, where Sega specifically were saying "its cool to be a gamer!". Definitely a close second to the Dreamcast. I wish they would come back to the hardware wars, but i dont know if we will ever see that happen again.

Point & Click Adventure Games.

I have become a bit addicted to playing various point & clic adventure games as of late. Particularly Fire Maples offerings of The Secrets of Grizzly Manor and also the Lost City on Android and iOS. There are a few other games like Cryptic Caverns/Cryptic Keep and also The Haunted which are doing the rounds, and i would like to hear any other suggestions for good P&C adventure games. I have an Andriod smartphone (and very soon a tablet), a PS3, Wii and a Dreamcast so any reccomendations for these devices? Even any internet flash games perhaps?

I should mention i dont like the 3rd person perspective games, or even worse, the non sensical games like Crimson Room where you just have to click random parts of the screen to all of a sudden find an item that wasnt there before. Any suggestions welcome :)

Its almost HD clear like, how unrealised was this damn game, and console! FUCK if anyone on here hasnt played Shenmue through a VGA box on a LCD TV, do yourself a favor and just get it all! The hair on the characters is so individual and crisp, fuck you can even see the jagged edges on the snowflakes!! Unreal, i am just floored, i have never seen Shenmue like this

Re: So whatever happened to...

I have no doubts that Shenmue HD DLC will be released. I just feel it will be the last to be released for 2 reasons:

1. "Save the best til last". It really is the most talked about game of the Dreamcasts tenure. Wether you loved it or hated, it it still got people talking. Someone severely hating Shenmue and thinking its boring is as valuable to me in terms of its legacy because its as much an emotion given towards it, so its re-release will be the most talked about game from the Dreamcasts list of games. Also, its easily the biggest game, in terms of size, following, and legacy so its a good game to possibly be the last Dreamcast title to be released, at least for a sustained period of time.

2. The bigger and more logical reason of the two for me, is that it surely will take a long time to upscale this entire game, both visually and audibly. All of the items, locations, characters...... i mean if you forget how huge Shenmue is, just spend your first day in the Hazuki household and try to lift every possible item, explore every possible room and also open every cupboard. I did it last night, and i didnt get to visit Fukuhara in the dojo until 9.45pm. This game is huge. Fact. Having to sit and go through its entirety will be no easy feat, and also not one that can be achieved overnight.
The audio of Shenmue (not VA work) is what doesnt age as well as the rest of the game. I have been playing Shenmue again with a VGA box and LCD TV and it looks as close to HD as you could get, but you can tell the quality of the audio isnt up there, especially with gaming headphones on. Again, this is something that will take some time. Add to that, if they are also going to include both native VA with subtitles, as so many fans have requested. Again more time.
Then there is also additional features that Sega would surely want to incorporate into the game. First thing that comes to mind is the difference of todays controllers compared to the Dreamcast controller, namely a second analogue stick. Obviously for Shenmue, this would be used as a camera stick, and some sort of freedom camera development would have to be organised. If this is to be a double planned release, then not only would i say it would take double the time to do so, but id say it would take more than double the time for it all to be finished.

I do believe that Shenmue has been in development for DLC. I also feel that Ben Harborne was more or less announcing this with his interviews earlier in the year. I have watched the two interviews a load of times, and in the first, he practically couldnt wait to say Shenmue. In the second interview, he made a slight joke about it with his facial features. I still maintain its coming. Just gotta be patient.

Re: So whatever happened to...

Christ sakes bud, i will buy you a Dreamcast if you want.

But i see where your coming from. My feelings on it come from a mixture of logic and optimism, but the latter can muddy the logic at times. Also i am not technically minded in how these games are developed, but i still think that due to the overall size of Shenmue (it is the biggest game on the DC) that it will take quite a while. The only reason i place so much emphasis on Harbornes interview though, was his openness in regards to mentioning Shenmue, in regards to a Sega standpoint. If any employee from Sega was questioned about Shenmue, they seemed to have had a well rehersed response, or even none at all. But Harborne wasnt even provoked to say Shenmue, he was asked a generic question which he could have answered in any way at all.

The only reason i say i think negative publicity is good is because its still being talked about, even if its about how awful it is. At the end of the day its someones opinion, and if someone is talking about that, then someone is listening. Someone who hasnt played Shenmue before, and went from the N64 to the Playstation and just ignored the Dreamcast because he or she wasnt bought one, along with their friends back then. If it wasnt being talked about at all, to be that would be just a little bit worse. A game forgotten is a game lost. I dont think Shenmues legacy will die out anytime soon because of that.

Oh and i forgot about the camera completely in Shenmue IIx #-o

Re: Online Gaming: Your Genius Moments

Modern Warfare 2
Hardcore Search & Destroy
Quarry

There is a usual team of 6 of us from work, that played every night. This particular night i was late getting on, and i kept on trying to join the particular game they were in (i knew they wouldnt all back out to include me into the party until the game they were playing was over, which was normal and fine). The random player, who was on my friends team left and i got into the game to see that it was 3-3, and going into overtime. So the last round starts, and we are on the bomb. Almost immediately 2 of the guys get foolishly noob tubed by not running away from the spawn spot, and within 20/30 seconds the other 3 had been shot.
So i am on my own, and the bomb is all the way across the map. I hate that i cannot hear any chatter now (sonce they are all dead) and i know all eyes are on me. I really hate that! So i just decide to go for it, and whilst running to get the bomb i see one and take him out. Fortunately i have ranked up enough to have a full stealth combo on (dead silence, cold blooded, marathon and a silencer on my USP). I see another running towards me and get him also.
I seen the bomb and i didnt care if someone was camping at it, i bolted for it and got it successfully. Now time to do my usual gameplan - plant the bomb in the hut at B, plant a hidden C4 package on the bookshelf beside it, and camp outside the other door behind the wall where the barrells are, and not the main door where the spawn is, and hide in the bushes which everyone does. So i crouch all the way down and i hear the footsteps, and then the bomb briefcase being opened. Click - boom, and it turns out the two guys were in there. We win 4-3. When the noise came back on the microphones as soon as the game was over, i hear my friends all cheering.

Best online gaming moment ever.

Your favourite gaming steeds

I dont think i have seen a topic like this in gaming, and i was sitting reminiscing about old Mega Drive games today. It made me think about the unique animals/creatures that you get to ride on and also possibly in some cases use as a weapon or power-up. I will start by what game made me think of this:

Flintstones - Red Bird

http://www.mobygames.com/images/shots/l/33819-the-flintstones-genesis-screenshot-i-can-fly-i-can-fly-s.gif

You got this bird when it hatched from an egg on various levels, which allowed you the ability to fly. Not only that, but it was able to breathe fireballs out, killing some of the nasty enemies this game had.

Golden Axe - Blue Dragon

http://wiimedia.ign.com/wii/image/article/103/1039474/GoldenAxeInline_1256673022.jpg

This was my favourite steed quite simply because of the flame attack it had. It differed from the red dragon, which shot out individual fireballs, which were oddly a bit too inaccurate and slow to fire. Combined with the running attack, i much preferred the blue dragon over both the red dragon and also the cockatrice.

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time/ Twilight Princess

http://bulk2.destructoid.com/ul/177411-top-ten-most-wanted-announced-3ds-games/3DSOcarina-620x.jpg

She doesnt have a attack of sorts, but the speed aspect to trample enemies definitely means she can be included in the list. Since Ocarina of Time, i have loved just galloping about Hyrule on Epona. Just changed the complexity of the game for me, especially after learning her song as child Link, and then rescuing her from Lon Lon Ranch as adult Link.
Twilight Princess has almost the game effect on he when i first seen her, only more bulkier and defined (although Eiji Aonuma has never confirmed that the horse was in fact Epona.. Her presence was missed greatly in Skyward Sword, and sorry no, Loftwing aint no substitute at all. I hope we see her back in Links next adventure.

So whats your favourite steed!!

Never gets old. Nah, what pisses me off the most is that they actually have continued to leave the song "When love is gone" out of current releases, such as the original DVD release. I swear, it better be restored for the Blu Ray! Michael Caine is also on record that this is his most memorable role for him in all of the films he has ever been in. But if i was asked, i could not pick my all time favourite festive movie between this and Love Actually. In fact i shouldnt even try, they are just two different types of Christmas movies.

Re: Random Thoughts! v2.0

Pete, don't you think thats a bit harsh? We all have our issues and god knows Adam has his. We're all friends and while we may piss each other off I don't think we should let things come to this. He didn't need to create another account, he broke the rules and if he keeps breaking them then its totally reasonable that you ban him but try not to make it personal by saying the kind of stuff you have. Whatever issues he has, and whatever is causing him to act the way he does he'll have to deal with it. The best thing to do is just respond to his actions without making it too much of a spectacle.

So its ok to just have this happen over and over and over again? This is a regular occurance, and its tiring. Its not harsh at all, he made an alternate account to come back and do the same things he was banned for. Not too long ago, there was a blanket ban on new members signing up because he was banned and making alternate accounts. You have been on message boards long enough not to do that and so has he, and its not just attacks on other people now its threats of self harm . Are you serious?

I am not gonna go down the road of "oohh you need to get help", or "get off the internet" because its been done before and its not happening, nor will it work. He created his own forums to get away from here and in less than a month, look what happens again. Dont you think its slightly odd that his "outbursts" are only here and not at his forums or even Hazuki Dojo? I was finished with him ages ago. I am not a friend of his. I disagree with a lot of principles he lives his life by, with number one, living a life on the internet. I am done talking about him because thats what he wants. Thats what he needs. His blue font to make him stand out.

I dont need that. Other members, old and new dont need that. Any online community doesnt need that.

Re: Review The Last Game You Beat

I have became a huge fan of Fire Maple Games, after buying their two games The Secrets Of Grizzly Manor , and The Lost City for my smartphone. Point and Click adventure games much like Myst etc, they are both stunningly beautiful, and quite intriguing. The first release, The Secrets Of Grizzly Manor was like by a lot of fans, but given the general criticism as being too short and also a bit too easy. But apart from that, the game still was extremely well designed and also well put together, also sounding great:

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j290/PeterC2005/the-secret-of-grisly-manor_guide.jpg
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j290/PeterC2005/the-secret-of-grisly-manor_2.jpg
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j290/PeterC2005/grisly.jpg
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j290/PeterC2005/reviews-grizly-manor-5.jpg

For their next game, The Lost City acted as a spiritual successor to The Secrets Of Grizzly Manor and the developers took on board the gameplay duration criticisms and expanded the size of the product, whilst retaining all of the positives from their first game, including the simplicity of the menu, item options and beautiful screens. Due to the size of the game, a map screen was also included and also a hints book in the options menu. Also added was a seasonal system, where you can change which season the games location is set in. This makes the challenge of completing the game a lot harder too, since only certain items can be used in certain places on the map during certain seasons. I would say it would last 2 hours if you sat from start to finish without a break:

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j290/PeterC2005/lc_screenshot1.jpg
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j290/PeterC2005/lc_preview6.jpg

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j290/PeterC2005/Lost-City-01.jpg

I love these games, and have replayed through them a few times. Despite knowing where everything goes, and how to solve every puzzle, i still find the visuals and simplicity of the game fantastic, and a fun way to kill some spare time when your bored. I was also stoked to learn that they are releasing a follow up to these, with even better visuals and a story! I have posted more about it in the Indie topic, which you can view HERE
If you have a little bit of spare coins lying around, these games are cheap as anything, and can be bought from the apps store on all devices. Trust me, buy them. You wont be disappointed! :D

Re: Few tech ????? Suggestions wanted

It is a luxury, but mines is justified by the travel aspect. I have the Samsung 7.7, and it was easily the hardest choice i have had to make in terms of hardware.... ever really. Bit a laptop is a much better choice if a tablet doesnt offer the specific services that its made for.

Again for a smartphone, Samsung all the way. The Galaxy range is amazing, and for me, trumps its main rival, iPhone in every department.

If it were me, i would combine the tablet and phone budget and go with the Galaxy sII smartphone. Its the same as the tablet etc and id say thats all you need. There is the Galaxy sIII, but i think its worse than the sII. That phone has been my life for the past year. Best phone i have ever had, and will have an sII in 5-7 years, regardless of all the new releases that come out. For todays needs, the Galaxy sII is easily the best out there. In Europe anyways.
