Hi everyone,

In my opinion, The Four Wude, are one of the most important points in the Shenmue Series. They are the guidelines for any martial artist to follow when pursuing their development of self expression.

My girlfriend decided to make The Four Wude symbols into T-Shirts mugs, iphone cases, pillows, wall scrolls, and other fun stuff. One design per symbol.

By the way, this is in no way anything new. These maps have been known about for a long time. It was just hard for most people to enjoy. These mods can be confusing and there was no central location for a disc image that was premodded.

Great theory! The only thing that bothers me is that Suzuki said that Ryo's mother would only be a mental reminder to Ryo in the series. Unless Yu is hiding something or merely playing on Ryo's thoughts of who his mother is, I would say its safe to bet that she really is dead.

Hi all,

I am making this thread to house my new mod I am currently working on.

I call it the Forklift Mod.

I am currently making it possible to drive the forklift through Dobuita.

This is where I am at with my work:

Release: Xiaopang Complete Shenmue 1
Method: Swapped maps, hex edit to ECAM
Workflow: Create save file placing Ryo in lunch hour just before he reloads back into the forklift
Game engine loads forklift and swapped map.
Ryo can ride everywhere

I am still working on getting the map swapped, while retaining the dobuita NPCs. Once I finish that, I will post my results.

Why am I making this? I always wanted to have ryo obnoxiously beep his horn down dobuita's main street at night. LOL

CANCELLED - Shenmue 2 80 min ISO - No Downsampled Voices

Hi All,

I am going to look into making an 80min CDr version of Shenmue 2 Full English Speech Mod without downsampling.

I have a feeling that Sm1th's project could be truncated a bit down to an 80 min CDR.

Ok here is my mockup solution:
NOTE: This is not the final solution as I still have one last major bug to figure out.


Here is what we do:
Dump the contents of both Shenmue Retail NTSC and the Shendream Shenmue Beta Release to get access to the game data files.

Do this on both games:

Open up HxD or any other hex editor and look at the Hex code for mapinfo.bin for Dobuita

SCENE03/D000/mapinfo.bin

Do a search for the String ECAM.

Then copy ALL of the hex code (thousands of lines possibly) all the way up to where ECAM starts, DO NOT COPY ECAM ITSELF, STOP BEFORE IT.

Now open up the mapinfo for the harbour maps.

Example we will use is MSFY, which is the free roam harbour map.

SCENE03/MSFY/mapinfo.bin

Search that map info for ECAM and replace all of the code before it with the code that you copied from the other mapinfo.

Once that copy is complete, now copy every other file from D000's folder into MSFY, without replacing the mapinfo file.

Now that that is done, test the map, you should see that the map is now switched to Dobuita.

If all checks out: use bootmake to compile the cdi, using a shenmue ip.bin customized with binhack32. Burn/Emulate to test.

FROM HERE:
Play another vanilla copy of shenmue up until you get to drive the forklift.
Using the beta shenmue, plug a controller into slot 2 and use the sub debug menu to make a legit save file for either when you are driving the forklift or right before you do so while on Lunch break.

Now load this file into the hacked shenmue game and test. You should have a forklift in a different area.



PROBLEMS:
When in dobuita, you are bound to the clipping of the harbour. During my testing, i see that the map loads u into out of bounds coordinates. I am looking into how to pivot the maps to see if I can sit dobuita right on top of where you load. Right now, you can only drive the forklift down 1/8th of the back road in dobuita over by Ono-san's Motorcycle Shop.


I will have more updates and photos possibly during the weekend.

But if you want to also try, test these methods.

I dont think the humans file goes under any type of CRC check, so a half assed file should be loaded into memory with no issues.

As for dummy data in the humans file, yeah i think its possible. I believe we can dump the humans file and then re-create it we should be good.

I know there should be a way to do this without even touching the audio files.

Ill be working on this more over the next couple of days and report back.

Documentation Center?

I want to propose the idea of a documentation center for everything Shenmue modding/hacking/tutorials related.

It seems that over time, this information gets lost... That is something I really don't want to happen.

For the past couple of years, I have been toying around with Shenmue and always come to an issue that seems to be resolved by someone on the forum but the method they used are never released.

For instance, how do we change someone's fighting style in Shenmue 1? I took a while to figure this out, only to find out that someone posted that they did it, and proved it, on some random page in a thread.

For the sake of us who love modding and hacking, could we centralize all of this documentation into some sort of knowledge-base?

I could provide some documentation to start with as a test.

Not sure which kind of platform though. Maybe just a basic web page with sections (Drupal, Wordpress, Confluence?)

I am already working on a PoC over on my site: http://www.jamesreiner.net but its not live yet.

Update:

Clipping issue has been resolved by Giorgio, thanks dude!

I think I can now finish this mod.

All that is left is to change the reference points remaining in sceneXX/MFSY/mapinfo to point to D000 with hacked map files and that should be all that is needed to drive the forklift in dobuita.

Milestone has been hit.

Swapped MA00 with D000 and made the correct adjustments in mapinfo to get everything awesome.

Combined my retail release with Giorgio's Clipping mod to eliminate the clipping issues in D000.

Expect a release and video soon.

I wont be compiling a CDI, just releasing the map folder and the save file.

I may also update DreamExplorer with the save file to make it easier for those who use real hardware.

Yes you can skip events.

One day I started a new game and when I got out to Yamanose the first time, I activated all 1000+ flags and never had to see the cat scene or the old lady either.

So maybe, the flags tell the game engine "yes he did this" which is why u also get the notebook update.

REQUEST: Shenmue 2 Full English 99 Min Copies

Hi all,

My 99 min Shenmue 2 Full English got destroyed by a flood in my apartment.

I have a paypal. Could anyone burn me working copies as well as a case for the game?

Money is not an issue.

Please let me know. I hate losing Shenmue games.

I do have 99 min cdr-s, but they are Sony brand AND factory sealed. I am not opening them :)

Hi Everyone,

To be transparent, here is the baseline method to getting the forklift to work.

VERY MESSY METHOD:
Open both /SCENE03/D000/MAPINFO.BIN & /SCENE03/MA00/MAPINFO.BIN in a hex editor.

Search for "ecam" without the quotes in MAOO/MAPINFO.BIN copy all of the hex after it till the end of the file.

Search for "ecam" without the quotes in D000/MAPINFO.BIN and paste the copied hex directly after the ecam line, overwriting what was there. Make sure no post ecam D000 hex is there before you paste or else you'll break the CRC and the map will fail to load.

In BETA Shenmue, in the debug menu, load D000 SCENE 03 ENTRY Point 99

This will grant you the forklift race in a broken dobuita.
ENTRY 01 - 03 will bring u to Mark's forklift introduction but the game will crash.




CLEAN METHOD:
Do the same ecam swap BUT, only take the lines that contain "FORK". Look for zeroed out hex lines to find the end of called variables. Swapping these into the right framework locations in D000 will give you native forklift support in the engine in Dobuita.
Sounds simple but it really isn't. The hard part is knowing where to put the forklift variable calls within the D000 framework. Im almost there with this method. I have two vars left.

If you do it this way, the game will think you started the afternoon shift and you will be on the forklift for a period of time but in a perfect Dobuita.

RELEASE: Shenmue Forklift Mod (Very Messy 0.1Alpha)

As promised, here is my first test release of the Shenmue Forklift Mod.

It will place the forklift race in Dobuita allowing you to drive around.

What works: Forklift in Dobuita
What doesn't work: NPCs, Clipping swap, Unlimited Timer.

NOTE: THIS IS A VERY EARLY BUILD. IT IS MESSY. IT DOES NOT REPRESENT WHERE I AM IN DEVELOPMENT CURRENTLY SO DO NOT HATE ON ME.

Only constructive criticism will be answered.

That being said...

Enjoy the mod. I am currently still working on the mapinfo FORK injections to make a more cleanly developed hack.

This only allows you to explore the map during the forklift race. Game becomes unstable after race.

I am releasing this ONLY because certain individuals wanted me to.

I am not in favor of releasing half assed work BUT for this I will make an exception.



How this works.
This is purely just a map swap with a bit of hybrid data injected into the mapinfo file.
So pretty much, it is Dobuita and the forklift map fused into one, with some custom locations for the forklift calls.

BUGS:
* Dobuita and the Harbour assets are loaded together so you will have weird results with the rendered buildings.
* This contains the clipping metadata for the MA00 map so you cant explore too much without further modification of the mapinfo hex representative code.
* If you load entry points related to Mark's Training, the game will crash. Sometimes NullDC crashes when this happens too.


How To Install Mod:
Grab a dump of the beta Disc 3 of Shenmue 1. Check the ShenDream release of Beta 0.4

Place D000 contents into /SCENE/03/D000
Compile and boot cdi/MDF/Whatever
With no memory card inserted, use the debug menu and supply the following variables:

Mot of my stuff is fine. Idiot on the 3rd floor left their water on and fell asleep drunk. The water collapsed the ceiling on the 2nd floor. Water poured out of my ceiling on th 1st floor. All dripped on my copies since they were on the table under the wet spots.

I tore that guy a new one.

Stupid asshole wouldnt even apologize. He was such a dick to me so now I am cracking his wireless to do some man in the middle attacking fun :)

So far:
I made a selfbootable cdi of disc 1 that is only 890 MB.

In my first test, I ripped a lot out just to get the base game.

Ripped:
German, French, and Spanish localization files
Arcade games (wont be ripped in release version, this was for testing)

The next process:

Pull out beta Aberdeen map
Pull out unused character models
Create symbolic links for redundant files and map assets << Not sure if the DC can even handle this.

Those three steps alone should pull the final cdi down to hopefully 80 mins or lower.

If not then we are out of luck :)

Shengoro, what I can say is, since I'm not particularly interested in modding, the devotion shown on this forum is somehow inspiring, and, in this case, if you resume displaying it, be it through mods or this tutorial, it already serves, if anything, that loyal purpose. Keep it up.

You might be able to get away with mounting the mdf/mds and repacking it as a cdi using bootmake.

I have also been waiting as long as everyone else, if not longer, for certain answers.

However, that does not give anyone the right to be butt hurt over someone being sworn to secrecy.

RELEASE: Shenmue Beta Disc 3 Exploration Mod V1 OUTDATED

Hello.

I am proud to announce this new release.

This release is called the Exploration Mod. It has finally hit version 1.

What is it?
This is a mod of Shendream's BETA release of Shenmue 1 Disc 3.
This mod allows you to walk around most areas without clipping. This allows you to walk through walls and most objects.
It also contains playable maps for Beta Yamanose, Beta Sakuragaoka, and Wish Road!

Why?
I made this for my own purpose but I wanted to share it with everyone. I always wanted to go wherever I wanted to when inside of shops and stuff. It was also made as a framework for my upcoming bike mod.

How?
Each mapinfo.bin has been hacked to remove all clipping data.

Who?
The original clipping method was developed by Giorgio.
The beta maps were hacked by Wude.
The Beta itself was released by Shendream.
The grunt work was done by me :)

How do I use it? Just like in the original beta release, you can call these specific maps up with the main debug menu.
For the shops that are closed when you go into them with the menu, just use the 4th player controller debug menu to set the time in the game to a time where the shop is open!

Are there bugs?
Yes! Like all arcane Shenmue hacks, bugs will exist.
-Ryo's House is completely broken and invisible. (This will be fixed in the next version)
-Random textures disappear and pop in when you are walking through walls. (This is normal and cannot be fixed.)

NOTE: You cannot play through this as normal!!!!!! It is disc 3 AND the maps are hacked to the point where the normal game will not flow and cutscenes may not trigger. It is for exploring only!

What can I play it on?
Confirmed working on NullDC, DEmul, Reicast, Chankast, and actual DC hardware via CD-R or GDEMU.

im going to make a tutorial video on how to use it. Its very simple once you know what each option is.

Pretty much goes like this.
Main menu debug screen is used to load maps.

In game debug screen is brought up by pressing start on controller 4.
Use the controlller 4 to cycle through the menu and change values, like debug flags and in game time.

I'll have a video up by the end of the week.

Thanks you're amazing. Because it's really frustrating, the main menu debug is there but no button is able to launch the chosen area. And I don't know how to put two pads in port A and D when you just have one without crash nulldc.

edit : Ok you have to disconnect your vmu to work

No problem. Rebuilding games is kind of tricky because it depends on the release team. Some teams like to scramble their 1st_read.bins to the point where normal selfboot hacks do not work.

In a perfect world, this is how you do it.
You need:
Windows
Bootmake
binhack32
some basic windows command line knowledge
an unpacked game.

So drop a blank ip.bin file and binhack32 in the game directory and open a cli window in it.
in cli type
binhack32.exe ip.bin
it will ask you for the following info. 1st read, bootsector, msinfo value
1st_read is 1ST_READ.BIN
bootsector is IP.BIN
msinfo is 11702

Then open bootmake and tell it where the files are.
It will then produce a working self boot.



NOW. this only works if the 1st_read isnt scrambled.
IF it is, you can always just hex edit the disc image itself instead of doing it on the files directly.

Also, sometimes you can get away with making a CDI with discjuggler from other formats.
