Re: Do you think you'll die before S3 release?

I like the fact that Shenmue tells a beautiful story on both plans : virtual and real. I don't think any game in history has ever reached the emotional dimension we have all experienced since a couple of months. F***in Shenmue :P

Re: How did you react to the announcement?

The more I read comments about how we fans reacted to the annoucement, the more I'm convinced we are a *nuts* community.
It definitely makes me feel less alone and proud to be part of it :king:

That said, it may not be the right topic for this video... but he definitely (Marcin Gulik) deserves some views!

Re: When Sega inevitably announces the HD remasters...

Was just playing the uncharted nathan drake collection demo and damn, what a masterpiece, i would die happy if bluepoint could work on a Shenmue HD, if sony actually steps in to help for a hd Shenmue, no doubt they will hire Bluepoint since Sony is hiring them for everything port related nowadays (uncharted and gravity rush)

Re: What should Ryo's punishment be?

One of the most interesting things about Shenmue for me is the way it influences the player's behavior where there are no explicit rewards or punishments. Caring for the kitten, helping an elderly neighbor, and trying not to worry Ine-san, are all things we're compelled to do because it feels right, not because it affects our progress in the game. Incentivizing these selfless motivations would negate one of the key charms of Shenmue, in my opinion.

Re: Top 10 Lists

10. Final Fantasy X

http://www.technobuffalo.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/FFXHD-1.jpg

The first game that made me think games could be more then just collecting coins and getting a high score was a Final Fantasy game. I've always had a soft spot for the series and this is one of many times I'll include it in this list. It did something I loved and did it really well. Tidus wasn't from that world and everything he was seeing for the first time you was also seeing for the first time. RPG's are normally set in crazy worlds where we're expected to know what's going on or are told so much that it makes you feel stupid, as Tidus has no clue about this world that doesn't seem as bad.

If you play the game for the first time now it may not have the same impact but 10 year old Riku was rushing home every day to find out what happens next.

9. Uncharted 2

http://www.craveonline.com/images/stories/upl_images/uncharted2-03.jpg

This game was getting 10's and rave reviews everywhere when it came out but I waited a year because although I really enjoyed the first game that didn't compel me to buy this day one. When I decided to finally get around to buying it I don't think the Dualshock left my hands for most of the weekend.

The first Uncharted set up this group of characters and while I don't think the first game is as great as the next two in the series we can thank it for that. Nate and Sully need no introduction and it feels like you've ran into two old friends in the pub who just talk you into going somewhere crazy with them. While your friends may just take you to that dodgy nightclub Naugty Dog end up taking you on the craziest adventure. I didn't know my PS3 could handle some of the stuff it was doing, a shoot out on top of a moving train, escape a building a helicopter is destroying and a sexy Australian woman.

The game doesn't try to be next Oscar winner, it knows it's the fun summer blockbuster and runs with it amazingly.

8. Yakuza 2

http://i.ytimg.com/vi/giJA9u4kmVw/maxresdefault.jpg

Just like Uncharted 1 the Yakuza series started out with a great game that needed a few tweaks. Yakuza 2 pretty much improved on everything that needed improving on and stuff that didn't. You can beat the crap out of punks in the street, go to the arcade or go to a brothel with a bunch of guys who like to dress as babies.

The game is a serious crime thriller at its heart but still manages to throw in some slow moments like a love story and some whacky moments like those man babies. It all ties together nicely and never feels out of place. Also you fight 2 tigers...

7. Mass Effect 2

http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/23968940690165344/67E928BECBB5C6FE3E6E827B077BD0BE3A2DE558/

I'm starting to realise I really like sequels. Just like the others I've mentioned stuff like combat got improved with Mass Effect 2 but the main reason I love this game is the characters. Between each mission I would spend half an hour walking around my ship just talking to my crew and learning about them, what they do, who they are and where they come from. Every member of the crew is interesting and has a story that's worth listening to. The majority of these characters aren't overly nice or overly evil and sit in that grey area. I'll always remember talking to Thane in the cockpit about how he hopes to make up with his son one day.

6. Final Fantasy IX

http://www.savecontinue.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/ff9_beatrix.jpg

Final Fantasy meets The Princess Bride. Many bring up the fact that this game was made to try and be like old school Final Fantasy's but this really deserves to stand on its own two feet. While I think it falls into the trap all Final Fantasy's of this area does by getting worse after the first disc I think it stays beyond amazing for 75% of the game. I would put the start of Disc 3 as one of the best moments in gaming ever and wish it had ended there rather then feeling the need to go another 20 hours.

5. The Last of Us

http://static.squarespace.com/static/5373f21ce4b0f28da14bf6d3/538395f8e4b0f414176df0f3/5383972ae4b0f414176e3a54/1401132842796/The-Last-of-Us-VGA-2012-Story-Trailer_2.jpg?format=original

I love myself a post apocalyptic world and this was everything I wanted the film The Road to be and more. Watching the bond grow between the two characters was one of the most well done things in the medium of video games, most games would show one cutscene and have everyone suddenly be friends. There are certain scenes I won't spoil that I would put up there with some of my favourites in movies.

4. Kingdom Hearts

http://cdn2-www.playstationlifestyle.net/assets/uploads/gallery/kingdom-hearts-hd-2-5-remix-review-gallery/kh25_kh2_mov1_fix.jpg

I was a 10 year old who loved Final Fantasy and went to Disneyworld about twice a year when I popped in the free disc that came with Final Fantasy X. When I see the trailer for Kingdom Hearts I knew it was something I would love. I honestly didn't quite know what I was getting when saving up what little money I was getting at that age for the game. When I popped it in 80 hours of my life just flew by and I loved every minute of it (maybe not the gummy ship). People tend to pass on the spin off titles which I love but I think the main reason I love them is the nostalgia. Kingdom Hearts takes me back to summer when I was a kid and would spend all day playing football and not having to worry about bills or school when I came home and popped this game in, I had that sense of being carefree which is the main thing I miss about childhood. Kingdom Hearts takes me back to that time.

3. The Walking Dead: Season 1

https://mattbrett.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/thewalkingdead-part2-poster.jpg

I have a friend who outside of FIFA and Rockstar games isn't really a big gamer. His a huge fan of The Walking Dead TV show so I told him about this game when it was coming out. He started playing it soon after the whole season was done and then asked me if I had played it. I was waiting for a sale of the retail release as it wasn't the top of my list. What followed was a day of work where he told me I had to go home and play it immediately, which strangely I did as I normally ignore advise that nagging.

Before I played this game I really thought that I hated kids. This game had me caring more about a kid then any character in a game I had ever cared about. If the game told me I'd have to blow the brains out of every other character including Lee I would have done it. The game is buggy and doesn't run great but somehow it pulls you in and makes you fully invested. I'm still not sure how it does it but it does it bloody well.

2. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

http://zeldauniverse.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/Ocarina-of-Time-TRAVIS-1.png

I'll admit this is mainly nostalgia based. Like some others on this list I'm not sure this game would make the same impression on someone who is playing it for the first time. Still when I load the game up I get the same goosebumps when jumping into the lake off the bridge.

Sometimes when I just want to zone out I still go back to that lake and fish for hours.

1. Final Fantasy VII

http://o.aolcdn.com/hss/storage/midas/ec9c4521591cc84010818bcb448eb666/202501434/final+fantasy.jpg

This was the game that made me realise that games are more then collecting coins and getting the best score. Before this I never knew a game could have an epic story. I was 6 when I first played this game and I really feel that it helped me learn to read, I wanted to know what was going on in that world even at a young age. I was hardly the best writer in my class but it wasn't long before when it was my turn to read out loud to the class I didn't struggle on a single word. My mum found it weird that I would write down words like avalanche and ask her what it said.

I don't think I've ever been that obsessed with a game and don't think I ever will be again. I've not played the game in what must be close to ten years as I feel like I could beat it with my eyes closed. The reason I'm so excited for the remake is that it may give me that feeling of playing the game again for the first time.

No matter how many articles I read, or how many times I watch the GT Sony stream in bed at 2am, I still sometimes can't believe that Shenmue 3 is a reality. Just can't. Just refuse to believe sometimes that over the course of the next 2 years, we will hear news, see screenshot and watch videos.

Life doesn't offer many truly mind blowing circumstances. But this will always be the biggest one I feel I will ever experience.

Re: Prologue for Shenmue 3

"The children of the prophecy emerged from the cave of phantom river stone. Their pursuit to find the truth behind the Mirrors and the reason for the murder of Ryo's father had raged for decades - almost one-and-a-half, in fact - but the final battle would not be fought in the future. It would be fought here, in our present, in 2017 (possibly 2018)... in 1986. Tonight... or in the morning, afternoon, or evening; whatever takes your fancy."

If you can tell me what movie title card this is a parody of, you win a boombox!
The Terminator! Gimme that boombox now!

Maybe something like this:
In a world where everything you know is wrong one man is on a journey to avenge his father! A rengegade girl holds the secret that is can bring danger into the galaxy! More than ever! Only love and forgiveness can save us. Coming soon... or not soon... but at least it's coming!...

Man, going through this GAF thread is a rollercoaster of emotions: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1062734

Fast-forward to page 45 if you want to see the moment when Shenmue III is announced, but starting from the mid-20s really lets you relive the hesitant anticipation before E3.

What a time to be alive.

Playing Shenmue blind

Hello.
I’ve been lurking around the dojo for a while and figured I’d finally chime in.
My name is Jordan and while I’ve known about Shenmue for almost ten years I never really got in to it until just recently. Please forgive me; this is going to be a very long and unusual post, however I am willing to do whatever it takes to prove the claims I’m about to make here.
Those of you who frequent gaming magazines and sites might know me on YouTube as genuinescorruption. Despite having been completely blind since birth, I’ve been a gamer at heart for almost my entire life. My childhood dream was to complete Ocarina of Time and in 2008, a group of diehard fans helped make that a reality by writing me step by step directions to navigate the game’s complex world. That combined with the game’s very well done sound work (which allowed me to know exactly where enemies were in relation to me and defeat them) made it possible for me to actually beet the game. I recently listened to a YouTube let’s play of Shenmue one and found myself completely immersed in the story. Researching the mechanics, I came to wonder if this game might actually be mostly playable (limitations of past technological eras often end up being accidental accessibility features).
I was wondering if someone would be able to elaborate on the navigation. The fact that you move Ryo with the d-pad instead of the analogue stick sounds really promising. If the analogue stick just controls the camera, can’t you just keep the camera behind you at all times so that if you push up on the d-pad, Ryo will always move north? Is this navigation structure anything like it is in either Pokémon or Final Fantasy X?
Do you think you can hypothesize on how much help would actually be necessary in order for me to complete this game? From what I can tell, the motor cycle race would be extremely hard, as would the forklift sequences (but they’re mostly optional)? There seem to be some pretty good auditory landmarks in some places to help verify your whereabouts (like Tom with his music, something that sounds like a marry-go-round in one place, etc.) which is more than can be said about many of the games I’ve played. Oh, and then there’s the stealth sequence…the footsteps on those guards are not only loud, but directional!
I’m planning on downloading this game and trying it out this weekend to see if I can make any progress on my own. Are there any other pitfalls you think I should know about?
Thank you very much for taking the time to read this. Speaking of which, in case you’re wondering how I’m able to read your responses or otherwise operate a computer (a common question I get asked on the internet), I use a program called Jaws which translates written text on screen to speech and allows me to navigate GUIs. It’s developed by a company called Freedom Scientific (http://www.freedomscientific.com).

Kind regards,

Jordan.

Japanese real life hero forced to play Shenmue!!

Captain Asagaya, a Japanese real-life hero, is forced by a die-hard fan to play Shenmue in this hilarious Youtube video. He is all tied-up by the fan, his hands taped onto a Dreamcast controller! LOL

When Captain Asagaya unleashes his powers and unties himself, he engages in a battle with the fan, this battle being a parody of the battle between Iwao and Lan-Di.

This video is full of inside jokes for Shenmue fans, like Dreamcast loading sounds and references to Warehouse No.8!
Great to see funny stuff like this coming from Japan!

Re: What are your top 10 most anticipated games?

http://thelifestream.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/E32015-vb-buster-sword.jpg

1. Final Fantasy VII Remake:

The chance to play my favourite game ever again for the first time has me so excited as having played it when I was about 6 or 7 I feel I peaked with gaming very young.

http://cdn4.dualshockers.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/FFXV_key-art_TGS2014-noscale.jpg

2. Final Fantasy XV:

I just love the Final Fantasy series so I've been ignoring this and can't wait to go in knees deep without any idea of what I'm getting into.

http://static1.gamespot.com/uploads/original/536/5360430/2886491-uncharted-4_drake-sam-survived.jpg

3. Uncharted 4:

The Uncharted games may just be fun 10-12 hour adrenaline coasters but they're the best at doing it. When this comes out it will be a great weekend.

http://static2.gamespot.com/uploads/original/1197/11970954/2886483-tlg_e315_06.png

4. Last Guardian:

I've wanted to play this game so bad ever since the first trailer. Although I liked Team Ico's previous games I didn't love them as much as most people seem to. The whole bird-dog companion is the thing that makes me most excited.

http://cdn2.pcadvisor.co.uk/cmsdata/features/3529966/Kingdom-Hearts-3-3.jpg

5. Kingdom Hearts 3

Although I can't wait to play this I just know the wait is going to be a long one so I've done a good job of not getting to excited...

http://assets.vg247.com/current//2015/06/mass_effect_andromeda_e3_trailer_6.jpg

6. Mass Effect: Andromeda:

I'm mainly just interested to see where the series goes now as the possibilities are endless now that the original trilogy is finished.

http://www.wired.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/firewatch-3.jpg

7. Firewatch:

I got really excited for this game after seeing the E3 trailer and the thing that excited me the most was the dialogue and voice acting. It also turns out that some of the top people on The Walking Dead game have a hand in this which is good news as that's one of my favourite games.

8. Tacoma:

After playing Gone Home I can't wait to see what Fullbright do next. There isn't much information on this yet but I have a lot of faith in them.

http://static3.gamespot.com/uploads/original/1197/11970954/2557861-zelda_001.jpg

9. Zelda:

I love the Zelda series to pieces but I've not really got hyped for this game yet as it seems to be in a weird limbo. Once we get closer to the release date I'll be jumping on the hype train.

http://gematsu.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/Persona-5_PV-Snap_02-05_003.jpg

10. Persona 5:

As Henry said it's been long enough since the last Persona game that the idea of putting in another 100 hours doesn't seem as off putting to me compared to had it come out instead of Catherine.

Re: Random Shenmue Thoughts

I've known the extra scene about Nozomi bringing some flowers to the family altar for many years but I only found out a few days ago that there is some unique dialogue with Fuku-san about this.
What's interesting is that Fuku-san initiates the conversation.

Re: Random Shenmue Thoughts

There is a possibility some wrong synapses are activated in my memory (therefore read the following with scepticism), but I remember that in one of my Shenmue I playthroughs, Nozomi is also present in the house (when she brought the flowers). She leaves as Ryo enters the house (they're saying "hi", but I don't remember if she mentioned the flowers), then Ryo goes to the altar room, and then Ine-san from the back is telling Ryo that Nozomi is such a nice girl.

What I've not seen on a video yet, is Fuku-san at Yokosuka Bar close to Akemi-san. I've encountered this (I believe so) in my very first playthrough (going way old back).

Re: Trophies/Achievements You'd Like To See In HD Versions..

Nice topic! I made up an achievement list for a Shenmue HD on XBLA a couple of years ago already, in 2011 to be exact. It even had the numbers of how much each achievement is worth but I decided to get rid of them here.

It might not be the most creative or funniest list but a very realistic approach of how an actual achievement list could be constructed. You know, covering all the bases and have the player try out everything the game has to offer with some coming naturally as the story progresses and others being a challenge but entirely possible with practice.

Re: What are you currently playing?

They fucked up big time by making it too difficult on the Story missions. I expect getting into some trouble with Side Ops or choosing that difficulty, but shit not during the Story missions.

But the story itself is still the worst one. They try to justify the voice parasites as a legit thing but it's still the stupidest thing Kojima ever created. The new characters apart from Quiet are just forgettable or just not engaging enough. Even the existing characters are so goddamn boring. How do you single handedly fuck this up unless you stopped giving a shit?

When it's not being stupid hard, it's quite a fun game though. And I'll have to get back to you on my equipment, Shen. My loadloud is all non-lethal stuff.

What video game town would you want to live in?

Hi guys! I did a list for my top 10 video game towns to live in.

New Unused Models

Hi all, Its been I long time since I posted here, I have been playing a little with Shenmue 2 and found some interesting unused models.

The first is an unused character, and while shenmue 2 have alot of them like I showed in the past, we can agree that this one was supposed to make a major role in the game, her profile can still be seen in Shenmue Goodies.
The funny thing is seems like they messed up with its code, so in HTML the code says 'SYI' but in game its 'YSI', no wonder we never found it before. I pretty confident its the same character, if not by the similarity of the code to the cothing and hair style.
http://i.imgur.com/R1B7Fso.jpg

Second model its the original Joy's bike, it was supposed to have the Honda's longo printed, probably not making it due to licensing issues.
http://i.imgur.com/oHmBIcd.jpg

Now some funny textures, first are some unused buidlings names in kowloon, they read 'White Snake Bldg.' and 'White Phenix Bldg.'
The second its a map from Shenmue I of the harbor, they intended for us to use one like in Shenmue 2 and I actualy belive its still in game code and can be unlocked...

Shenmue Beta Video - now subtitled

Although this 30-minute VHS video of Shenmue beta footage was released by SEGA back in 1999, as far as I know English subtitles have not been available.

Happily this is no longer the case as I have now completed adding in English subtitles. Even if you have watched it before you may like to enjoy it again!

'The Awakening' -my poetry collection now on Amazon :)

For those here who may have a passing interest in poetry, please check out my first published work, 'The Awakening' -
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Awakening-Selection-Poems-Stuart-Peacock-ebook/dp/B017BZBH6M/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1446158264&sr=1-1&keywords=apex+publishing

it is currently only an eBook, admittedly, but hey, it's a start :) Even if you don't own a Kindle, there is a download on that same page for the Kindle app, which works on PC's, smartphones and tablets. You may also notice a little Shenmue inspiration in the final poem in the collection, 'The Surfacing'.

So please, if you do download please leave a review on Amazon, it'd help tremendously :) And let me know what you think in the topic, of course! Thanks :D
