The sadness these two tracks emote truly separates itself from other games. I can't really think of any other games that perfectly capture the feeling of being lonely with simple musical notes. Incredible work.

I believe your interpretation that Ryo, Lan Di, and Shenhua being in an eternal loop of existence, always fighting seems to fit within the series. Given that they are all virtual - maybe even literal - forms of Chinese Gods and representations of Chinese cosmology - Shenhua, phoenix; Ryo, tiger; Lan Di, dragon - it is more than possible that you are on the money here.

I suggest reading Chinese cosmology, astrology, myths, and some Taoism. All of them, especially the nature of the Yin and Yang - which is central to Taijitu and Taoism at large - is a large element of the series.

It's not likely due to the history of martial arts in China. In China, during the cultural revolution, many martial artists were hunted down, jailed, and killed, dude. What was replaced was mostly a form of wushu for performance arts. Bajiquan, while also being the style of Mao's bodyguards, was not exactly something taught to laymen, much less Chinese orphan girls on the mainland. Bajiquan and other martial arts thrived in places like Taiwan and Hong Kong - there is a REASON why many martial arts films of the time came from Hong Kong - and Taiwan in particular is a huge culture center for the art. We don't know where Xiuying learned her Baji, but it's quite a leap to assume she trained with Iwao given the sheer limited state of Chinese martial arts during that time period in the era of Mao. More than likely, she started when was a teenager when Mao had passed and kung fu laws laxed. Either that, or she learned in Hong Kong, and not in Meng Cun. It's not likely that a 5-7 year old who was possibly orphaned by then, learning the kung fu style of Mao's bodyguards, in secret, despite possible execution.

I agree that it should feel like an adventure. if you're a secondary character and not a main character, there's really no reason for them to show up in more than one game until it's the ending for the series.

I've always seen the fortune tellers as a gameplay mechanic to help the player go on their path more than an actual hint that magic exists in the world of Shenmue.

What's the alternative?

Having common sense and basic decency as we wait rather than not treating the execs like people without any boundaries. Given the record numbers for Shenmue III KS, and it being slated as potentially becoming the largest funded game Kickstarter ever, as well as rising Shenmue 1/2 costs, messaging them would be foolish and probably even hurt our efforts. Our efforts should be spent backing the KS and making it a success, not hounding Facebook execs online and invading their privacy and acting like morons.

Tweeting Sega, Cedric, or that one third party relation Sony guy that you would like Shenmue 1/2 HD is NOT the same thing as messaging a businessman's - and likely Yu's friend - personal Facebook.

But do you really think indie is the way to go about this? Using the UE4 engine and creating the game using funds from the KS is good but what this means is that the game probably won't be as good as the originals in terms of how much depth and detail they delivered. Yes, we DO want the game, and for it to be similar to 1&2 or even the exact, complete copy of it but granted that it is to be indie just makes it look a little pathetic since we're talking about Shenmue here, a groundbreaking game just with the lack of mass sales.

This being said, we must get something that isin't shitter than the golden Shenmue 1 and 2. I highly speculate that this isin't going to to be the case IMO.

It is indie. It is clearly inspired by Shenmue. It is Unreal 4, the same engine as Shenmue III.

Well, on a similar note, it was ludacris for anyone to expect Shenmue 3's announcement.

Expecting Shenmue III is one thing. Expecting it to be AAA (hundreds of millions spent by an invested party on development and marketing) is another. If Shenmue was going to return it was never going to be AAA, and the fact that the only tiers that exist now in gamers minds is AAA or indie is fucking sad given the history of this business. We used to have all kinda of types of games and budgets, from indie, to d, c, b, all the way down to a, aa, and aaa but now only two of those exists now apparently?

Looking at the 10m figure, Shenmue III looks like it could very well be a B game.

It's not been disclosed. But many within the gaming media, as far as I have read, say it's a fair assumption that it does due to the financial help Sony is giving them and also the opportunity to present the Kickstarter on their E3 stage. Adam Boyes himself said there had been meetings for a year, so those meetings more than likely would have been the organisation of some deal.

We could be wrong and Microsoft could still come to be involved, but I feel it's an impossibility. There's a deal done. It may not have been made public, but all arrows point to it.

A lot of people are worried that, even after the KS, that Shenmue III won't sell well because of a limited niche appeal that doesn't appeal to conventional gaming. I'm here to disagree with that.

Honestly, bringing around the niche argument, I'd argue that now was a better time than any for a Shenmue revival. A lot of niche games are gaining in popularity, especially on pc, and lot of these games are non-traditional games like Shenmue as well. Like a game like Papers Please, which is about signing documents, is a smash hit in today's gaming landscape. I think with all the buzz, and if Yu and co. play their cards right with marketing, Shenmue III can surpass the first game in sales easily.

A lot of these games are doing non-traditional things and require a lot of patience, sorta similar to our favorite game franchise. Especially on PC, which is where I have a feeling Shenmue III will surprisingly thrive more so than the PS4 version due to modern PC gaming community.

Just this past month there has a release going around niche gaming circles called Her Story. It's an FMV game, and you do non-conventional things and it's lighting the gaming world ablaze. It's about literally watching videos and researching prior evidence inside a computer. And people fucking love it.

Now imagine Shenmue III, a game that has gotten excellent buzz, nearly has 5 million dollars in donations, was revealed at Sony's grand stage at E3, is being released during a time when alternative games are not only being made but are CRAVED by the gaming populace due to conventional AAA games. When it's released this craving will likely be sparked into a giant alternative genre and alt games will probably even MORE popular by then.

I think Shenmue III may be a hit if the cards are played right. The PC version especially is something to look out for.

I think we will still be number 1 KS game and I think we will also have something really to be proud of at the end of this thing.

I'm sorry but this looks very, very bad. It's not just the aesthetics that look bad or the animation or Ryo's weird face or anything that could be refined later, it's just plain cheesy. The firefly scene wasn't anything like that in Shenmue II.

Personally, I'm not overly enthusiastic at the notion of releasing pre-pre-alpha designs, or roughly animated scenes in the first place. It's confusing at best, and potentially harmful at worst . What's the point exactly? I'd much rather have Suzuki take his time without having to worry about churning something out every week and redesigning it ad nauseam.

Necon is a fan who has no deadlines to meet. He also doesn't have to appease 55k people who gave him 5million dollars and has to show progress or ideas of what the game would look. You're comparing a kickstarted project, which by necessity, has to show ideas of what they want the game to look like to draw pledges and show that they're working on SOMETHING to a FAN - that isn't doing it for money or has a deadline?

I seriously liked this vid 100000 times more than initial reveal vid. I love the animation. I \love the way the lighting looks and I can't imagine how it'll look in a more finalized state. I love the way the camera pans out for the zoom in on Shenhua and it transitions to the sky. The cinematography is excellent for a small time tech demo that was barely in the oven. Just imagining the possibilities with actual money and staff, I'm even less skeptical about this game.
