Re: DC on ebay

Nice swap. I made my own "variant" before I bought one as well. Now have both, but still have a special place for the one I did by hand.

Fuck that, all my hoes clean. My bitches reputation is very important for return customers.

After a talk with Yama, i will be staying in my post, but some things will be changing. George will reveal more when things are a bit more ironed out. But finally after 21 and a half hours i can get some sleep, and end this day a lot happier than when i started. Oh and theres a ban on registrations so there will be no more bots until the security issues are fixed.

Re: Random Thoughts! v2.0

I just finished THE ASSIGNMENT!

So far, i'm pretty damn proud on how it came out. Doing routine dialogue polish, see if I can make certain things more conversational and smoother instead of stilted. There's one scene that reads a little too goofy and it's the only real scene I need to rework on, but other than that it's pretty much done.

It's a 30 page short film (pretty meaty for a short film too). Gonna make a logo for it and release it soon. It's for a contest mostly but hell, if I can make this thing too that'd be awesome so I can move on and make my other stuff a reality.

Re: Hitman Series

I think it's actually printed on the box art, not a sticker. Kind of like the Okami IGN quote or whatever.
And yeah, that shit is annoying. Kind of irritated me when I got Assassin's Creed 3, and there was a big "Gamestop Edition" banner across the top of the box art. Tacky as hell.

Re: Salute

First off I wish all of you a happy thanksgiving to those here who celebrate it and I hope it was a good one. Enjoyed spending time with my family.

Thanks ShoZo and all the others for your support. Others like to insult me because it distracts them for their deficiencies in their lives, so they have to attack someone who done the right things. Contrary to Ryudo's statement, I no longer live in Vermont. I'm once again (and thank God) a New Yorker. Been so for a couple years now. My life has greatly improved since I last really posted here. If any of you guys are in the tri-state area and want to meet in Manhattan sometime feel free to contact me.

My life has improved greatly the past two years. I kind of compare myself to CJ on GTA San Andreas as how quickly he went from nothing to something. I love wearing tailored suits to work, I love my luxury car, I love being to go out with women on the regular now (have a dinner date tomorrow in fact). Things are just great. I'm also a Rotarian as well and provide polio vaccinations to children in developing countries. We recently eradicated polio in India and now are targeting the middle east.

To those I deleted from my facebook, I want you to know that it was no hard feelings, I simply wanted to cut all ties with this place in all forms. I see now that there are some here worth keeping in touch with, and once again if you live in this area I'd be happy to build friendships with you.

The lesson on this post, and why I did it is simple. You can insult, troll, belittle someone all you want, but the bottom line is, you can't keep a good guy down. :)

So I had to get a different custom poster company to print my chosen Assassin's Creed image, but it turned out really nice. It was this one:

Kind of a local company, so it got to me pretty quick.
I've got a few more images lined up to get made too. Fun stuff.

3DS games look fine and DS game don't. They look like lego's. Stuff like Netflix is a bit blurry but that's due to the low rez screens. Like the original 3DS the screen is still 800x240. Don't get why it's such a low rez. Fuck Nintendo at least do 800x480. Shitty cheap tablets even have that.

SII CHAR DATABASE-ALL 700 (AND 1) CHARACTERS! UPDATE 27/3/15

http://i767.photobucket.com/albums/xx318/askvera/s2cd_sigbanner.png

DOWNLOAD - https://www.dropbox.com/s/8qkby011a3tkgg2/Shenmue%20II%20Character%20Database.rar

Yep. After nearly a decade, it's done, people :D

HISTORY OF THE SHENMUE II CHARACTER DATABASE PROJECT
Ever since casting my eyes upon screenshots of Shenmue published in the (now defunct) UK magazine Computer and Video Games, I have been absolutely enthralled by the series. This game was definitely something different. As the famous tagline proclaimed in the trailers before its release – RPG had changed. Sure, hailing the game as being its own exciting new “genre” with a somewhat silly acronym as its name (FREE- Full Reactive Eyes Entertainment) was being a tad overzealous perhaps, but you had to admire Yu Suzuki’s ambition for this game. When I finally got to play it on the Christmas morning of 2000, it did not disappoint. The atmosphere created was just amazing to me – a realistic, living, breathing town with over 300 individual characters – all with their own specific daily routines and, in supplementary materials, all named and given detailed biographies! Throw in the fantastic music and the engaging (if not completely original) story and you really had something special. And this was only part one of the saga...

Bundled with the game was the ‘Shenmue Passport’ disc. Through the Dreamcast’s internet connection, this enabled access to all sorts of information about the game, as well as ranking leaderboards for the various mini-games and the chance to get exclusive capsule toys. One of the best features was the character profile section however; as you met and conversed with the characters during a playthrough, their profiles would gradually be added to the Passport. Now to some, giving all 300+ characters names, stats, and biographies may seem extraneous, (especially given characters that Ryo can’t even speak to have detailed information about them!) but it really shows the love and care put into the game by the developers and the amount of depth to Shenmue that few games have matched.

PASSPORT EXPIRED
The Passport service was eventually taken offline in April 2002, but thankfully the character profiles had also been published in Prima’s strategy guide book for the game, so the information was still readily available to fans.
Which brings us to the sequel game, Shenmue II – which I got the following Christmas in 2001. This sadly could end up being the last game in the series, despite it ending on a cliffhanger and at a game-changing point in the saga’s story. Nonetheless, the sequel’s world was even bigger than the first’s– Ryo travels to Hong Kong to continue his quest, with most of its areas completely dwarfing Shenmue I’s in terms of size, as well as the amount of characters – around 700. There was also a lot more mini-games and sidequests to discover, and fans generally agree it is more action-packed and that the plot moves a lot quicker than the first game (though some will argue Shenmue I’s atmosphere has more charm) And what of these 700-odd characters? Were they all named and profiled as per the original game? As it turns out, yes – but these were not readily available to the fans outside of Japan.

Firstly, unlike the first Shenmue, there was no Passport. There was no Prima guide either, as the Dreamcast version had been cancelled in America. America eventually saw an updated version of Shenmue II on the Microsoft Xbox, and a Prima guide was finally published. However, unlike the Shenmue I book, there were only profiles on the main characters; Ryo, Shenhua, Xiuying, Fangmei, Ren, Joy, Wong, Lan Di, Dou Niu and Yuan. The Xbox version, with the new snapshot feature, did include profiles on some of the other characters; unlocked when you took pictures of them, but it didn't come close to having profiles for all the characters. Would we ever know the names and backgrounds of the reams of anonymous characters?

A FAN EFFORT
Shortly after I had completed Shenmue II, I looked around on the internet for fansites/information about the series, ultimately finding the excellent Shenmue Dojo website. I joined the forums, and this was in fact one of the first message boards I signed up to on the internet. My handle on the forum was (and still is) ‘Miles Prower’, as I am also a long-time fan of the Sonic the Hedgehog series of games (and Sega games in general). I made a lot of good friends through the Dojo community and have many fond memories associated with the forums. I think between us we have probably discussed every single aspect of the games to death, but as many fans will attest, you find or notice something new with every playthrough of these wonderful games. Not to mention the very active hacking/modding scene that developed, mostly headed by longtime member LanDC, in which reams of unused content was discovered and many interesting and or humourous modifications made to the game. I still get a warm nostalgic feeling every time I watch LanDC’s Road to Amihama videos in particular.

And indeed, the question of whether detailed character profiles existed for Shenmue II’s cast was raised in discussion. In a thread from 2003, a member named Eek the Cat shared some scans of a guidebook he owned published in Japan called the Shenmue II Perfect Guidebook. The scans showed that there were indeed names and profiles for each and every character.
Eek was even kind enough to put all of the scans together on a CD for me and mail it to me, and even threw in a couple of audio CD’s he had compiled containing music from Shenmue II (sadly the second game never had any official soundtracks released).

The problem? Being that this book was from Japan, the character names were in Chinese and the information in Japanese. Through discussion in the topic, another forum member called khien agreed to help with translating the character names as she could read Chinese. And so began the effort to translate the many character profiles. I began by gradually posting them within the topic, and then eventually creating a website (which, thanks to Web Archive, you can still view here , albeit with most of the images missing).

Continuing into 2004 and beyond, progress was quite slow, mainly due to me starting university. Khien’s life ended up becoming quite busy as well, but thanks to the efforts of another forum member, Oda Ryo, the translation work still continued. The forum member Kiyuu (possibly Japan’s biggest Shenmue fan, and often referred to as the ‘Shenmue Queen’), also informed me that another book existed, the Shenmue II Complete Guide, which contained profiles for characters not included in the Perfect Guidebook; namely those for the many pedestrians who wander the streets of Hong Kong. I made the effort to acquire this book myself and make scans for the remaining profiles.

RESSURECTING THE PROJECT
As the years went on, however, my free time became less and less. I studied for three years at university and after graduating in 2008, I was working full time; in short I was growing up. It was also looking increasingly unlikely that a Shenmue III would ever emerge. Life went on. However, my enthusiasm to complete the project was somewhat fired up again when Peter from the forums (who most likely owns the biggest Shenmue collection in Ireland) got in touch with me on Facebook asking if I was still working on it, as the Dojo staff had managed to get an interview with one of the voice actors for the English dub of Shenmue II (a very interesting read by the way, which can be found here , and they had requested that video clips be assembled of the characters he voiced, which he supplied a list of – but only by name and brief descriptions. Using the information from my project I helped with finding some of them. I then found myself wanting to get the project finished once and for all, and got back in touch with Oda Ryo who happily assisted me with getting the remaining names translated.

I had also spoken to the member ‘thegreatchai’, who had also been attempting to catalogue the character information on her wiki site, and over time we assisted each other greatly. I began transferring the information to an Excel spreadsheet with the intention of creating a complete database of all the Shenmue II characters – which after assembling a numbered list I discovered there are exactly 700 – surely a deliberate intention of the creators? At any rate, after a few months work the project was finally finished. I am glad that this information is now easily accessible to Shenmue fans, and while some may consider me obsessive or downright insane for pursuing with the project, it was worth it for a game series that I love so much and one day hope will be continued in some form. We can but hope. The saga may still go on....

Re: Random Thoughts! v2.0

Hey guys! Hope all is well here!! :D

Now my 5th day in Sydney, and despite a lot of bad luck and things going wrong, i absolutely love this place! On my first day at Bondi, i got 3rd degree burns on my feet, lost my phone (but got it back), lost the room card countless times, had arguments with French people, locked my padlock key in my locker..... the list goes on. But still smiling and not letting things bother me. Learned to surf yesterday which was a blast, and have a lot more activities lined up for the rest of the week.

Hows things anyways? Have i missed anything? :nice!:

Re: Shenmue Dojo Hosting Upgrade + Happy Holidays!

I wasn't overly familiar with the previous iteration, but for what it's worth I like the current design and don't have any problems with the interface. If I did, and I felt it warranted comment, I'd probably try and offer something more constructive than "it's very bad." What is it that you preferred about the old look, cube_b3? And what difficulties do you encounter when navigating the site? Answer those questions and your criticism might be taken as useful rather than inflamatory.

Re: Random Thoughts! v2.0

Been real busy the past week.

I'm prepping for what will be my first feature film. Haven't decided on all the specifics yet but i'm leaning on shooting with a Red One or MX camera (with whatever badass lenses I can get) so the film can look like this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z5pJXXBea8A

I'm also considering the Nikon D90 or my own Canon Rebel T2i if I can make it look like a "film" like the Red cameras do. It'll be based on the short script "The Assignment", i'm writing the full feature length version of it as we speak. I already sent the 30 page "short" to two would-be producers and they love it. Hopefully the feature script will get a similar reaction, which would lead to more financing.

The script will be finished in a week maybe and i'll get some concept art done by the same person who did TECH. I'll also be doing the storyboards. Not to mention direct and edit. There are some difficult things i'm planning on doing that are considered big NO-NOs (working with children, gun battles, ect) but i'm hoping by planning it all out ahead of time and financing a few extra days will help remedy this situation.

On top of that i'm finalizing TECH, writing Project Exodus, and halfway with a brand new script....CREW, which is so far coming along to be very awesome (might be the one i'll ship out with full confidence around since there isn't one thing wrong with it so far)!

Since i'm becoming swamped with work, you might see less of me in the coming weeks. But if anything i'll still pop in whenever I can. Be seeing you bastards later. :beerchug:

So Christmas miracle or temporary curse.. But my parents dog who is more than 10 years old lost all sight, smell and hearing yesturday. They took the dog to the vet and the vet said she would probably never get her senses back again.
Because im Christian and actively pray atleast once a week, I prayed last night that God would restore the dogs senses. My family was devistated and it seemed like a horrible way to live for a dog thats been nothing but loving all its life.
Well this morning the dog is back to 100% normal again.

Happy 2013, I brought free DLC for who reads this first

Hi Guys,

I've been gone for a while as I have been working on my latest Linux distribution.

I began managing our video game distribution budget at my job and got a lot of DLC codes when I bought games for my library here in Princeton. I do not believe in having to pay for DLC so I will be releasing codes that I receive from developers and resellers.

I used some of them but here is what's left for you all to use if you want!

Re: Need help fixing a dreamcast (if possible)

I wrote a tutorial on how to hack the Mil-CD patched dreamcasts, unfortunately the DC community sites are pretty much gone and my document is hard to find. i cant even find it. >_<

You might be able to swap the drives are they are removable, but I dont remember if it is a simple unplug and switch.

EDIT I FOUND IT
Not saying which member I am :D

6.1. Newer Non MIL-CD DCs and workaround
Thanks to DJ Motion from isonews, jc, OEM, and Xeal on dcwarez.

Some newer DCs have their BIOS programmed to prevent booting CD(R)s which have audio (audio boot data in this case) before the game data (formally known as the MIL-CD format, informally as the audio/data selfboot layout). Not nice, especially considering nearly all previous games - including ECHELON rips - work like this. When buying a Dreamcast, look for Dreamcast units manufactured BEFORE October 2000. There have been some units manufactured in Oct. 2000 and Dec. 2000 with the new BIOS revision that will not work with CDR's. Note that how recently you bought it and retail box type (regular or Smash Pack) do not matter, only the manufacture date of the unit, which should be visible through a small window on the Dreamcast retail box. Also identified as not working with the audio/data selfboot layout games are the Sakura Taisen and Hello Kitty special edition Dreamcasts available in Japan.

Many people have reported that there are plenty of units in the Oct 2000 - Dec 2000 timeframe that play the audio/data selfboot layout games just fine... thus the only way to check is to buy the unit and take it home and try it.

Note for Japanese DC owners (from OEM of dcwarez): My Jap DC refuses to boot the data/data selfboot format unless the total image size is below 70 minutes. Thus releases such as San Francisco Rush 2049, Deep Fighter & NFL2K1 don't work on my DC. (I have been able to get most of them to work though, by converting them to the old audio/data selfboot format.) According to Xeal this is a known problem with early Japanese models, which may explain why groups rarely use this format. It is also my experience that newer units won't boot the data/data format if the total image size is above 82 minutes (thus making it impossible to selfboot games like Sonic Adventure without ripping something out).

Addendum: Echelon's releases of NBA2K1 and NFL2K1 (and SFRush2049, of course) are already in the data/data selfboot format... other Echelon releases that use the data/data selfboot format are unknown.

The data/data selfboot solution (No modifications to console needed):
Right, so you've got your CD written and you want to make it selfboot and work on your new Dreamcast. Here goes...

1. Rip the CD with DiscJuggler to a CDI file.
2. Go in to a DOS/Command Prompt and using CDIRip, rip the CDI file so that a .CUE and .BIN file are created.
3. You can delete the .CUE file. Download a free copy of ISOBuster from the net and extract the files to a directory from the .BIN file.
4. Using IPBIN4WIN, create an IP file which corresponds to the game. It normally needs to be pointing at the 1st_read.bin file, or perhaps a different file if it is a WinCE game. A WinCE game can be detecting by checking if it has a 'WinCE' directory on the CD. If so, make sure you take this in to account when creating the IP file.
5. Now you'll need a tool called 'mkisofs'. It is included in the selfboot toolkit. Create an ISO from the files you have extracted, and the IP.BIN in the root directory. Make sure you use an offset of 0,0 *NOT* 0,11700.
6. Then you'll need to use Xeal's amazing 'Bin2Boot' tool on the ISO, which creates a selfboot CDI which puts the game data BEFORE the audio boot data. A miracle. Now the game works. It's been tested on a real non-CDR boot DC (one of the first in the UK) and it works fine.

Utopia Boot CD for NON MIL-CD DCs
MUCH thanks to jc of dcwarez (and xeal, of course!)

1. Download the cdrecord-tools, CDIRip, ISOFix, and Bin2Boot if you don't already have them.
2. Get the *.CDI file for the Utopia BootCD.
3. Extract the CDI, cdirip.exe, isofix, and bin2boot to a directory (ie, C:\JC_IS_COOL).
4. Open a DOS/Command Prompt in said directory.
5. Run the following commands:
cdirip FILENAME.CDI /iso
then do:
isofix TData02.iso 11702
6. Extract the contents of the ISO using ISO Buster into a directory with the cdrecord-tools.
7. Move the "bootfile.bin" from the directory where you were working with CDIRip to the Directory you extracted the contents of the fixed ISO.
8. Make an ISO with the following command:
mkisofs -C 0,0 -V "Utopia BootCD v1.1" -l -o BOOTCD.ISO DIR
(where "DIR" is where you extracted your fixed ISO.
9. Take the ISO that "mkisofs" produces and put it into the directory where you have Bin2Boot. Run the following command: bin2boot BOOTCD.ISO /nohack
10. Burn image.cdi with DiscJuggler and enjoy it on your "copy-protected" Dreamcast.

6.2. Enabling VGA support - BootCD and Self-boot games
Credits to jc of dcwarez.

Boot CD
The original Utopia Boot CD 1.1 does NOT contain the VGA initialization code necessary... there IS a patch for the Boot CD image that will help with some games available from dccopyworld. The Utopia Boot CD 1.2 supposedly has the VGA patch applied to it, but is supposedly NOT an official Utopia release.

Re: Yakuza series

I am currently playing 5. I finished Kiryuu's chapter. I have only been to Fukuoka once for a day on a business trip. But I do recognize the canals and the bridges. Chapter 2 is in Hokkaido which is Saejima's chapter which I am currently half way done with....I think.... It is very heavy dialog heavy as usual. With these games, I am more interested in the story so it works for me.

The action as usual is fucking balls to the walls and totally insane. But a certain scene with Kiryuu's final battle gets really ridiculous even if it is to show how bad ass he is. After 4, hell even 3, I had no idea how they were going to develop him, but this game does an interesting job of re-exploring his character and for the right reasons. Same with Saejima so far. I look forward to doing the other chapters before I go back to Japan.

Ironically, the only time I can do any gaming is when I go back home to the states for the holidays lol

Re: Gaming thoughts of the day

I'm sure someone must have posted this here before but I'd only seen it now. Hilarious.

Re: 2003 Members

I just got a real sense of just how long it's been. I was unable to sleep and watching some old videos I made, and came across Extraordinary (Link here, if you haven't seen it  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2qpRRknV88I )

It's crazy because I made that when I first came here in 2003, and, thinking back to my thought processes when I made that video, everything in it already felt so old, it felt like we had already done everything in the games. It's just insane to think that it has already been 10 years since I first joined here and made this video... yet in another way, it feels like a whole different lifetime.

I just looked at my PM box, and I have a new PM, but my box is overflowing and I have all these old PMs from people who aren't here anymore like Yusuke and Odds and Ends/Riot on Broadway and I don't want to delete them. :-o

Hmmm, I dunno if Brock could have a good match with himself, but it'd be fun to watch him try this.
