Most of you'll think Yu Suzuki with that slide trolls ("It's a little joke I did last night," he warned). But deep down is a call to the industry: "PUBLISHERS ARE YOU LISTENING?" ‪#‎SaveShenmue‬

Re: Suzuki hinting at shenmue at gamelab with a "3" oh my go

The previous mentioned article got an English translation. Worth a read!

«Suzuki: "if circumstances and opportunities are right, I'm ready to create Shenmue 3"
We talk to the creator of one of the most loved franchises in gaming about the possibility of a third.

We talked with Yu Suzuki at Gamelab today, and of course the subject came up regarding Shenmue 3, the long-talked about sequel to the Dreamcast adventure-RPG series that has been left unfinished since the last release, Shenmue II, in 2001.

"I'd rather say everybody which I have met, everybody has asked me about Shenmue 3," he told us when we asked how often does he get asked about returning to the Sega RPG. So we asked him what would need to happen for the game to become a reality.

"I made Shenmue - the first chapter - fourteen years ago, so it has been a long time. But still people remember that and they ask for Shenmue 3 too, so it's a very, very nice thing for me. So if the circumstances and opportunity are all right, I'm sure I'm ready to create that."

We wondered what he might be able to do with new tech and the opportunities that'd offer.

"Well, graphics and sound have progressed very much," he responded. "But especially the capacity of the CPU treatment has made very much progress, so I think it's the main point now in advance; how can we introduce AI so that the playability of the game can get better."

We also asked what new things he'd like to do with storytelling.

"So, I have made until Shenmue 1 and Shenmue 2, but I have prepared until [Shenmue] 11, chapter 11. So if I want to continue the game, it will take a long time - because I have 9 chapters left. So I think I will have to change that construction composing the chapters, by dividing [spreading] many in two or three parts," later stating the series would end with Shenmue 4.

It may be a continuing pipe dream for fans that the Shenmue series would continue, let alone be given the chance to be finished properly, but Suzuki remains thankful by the continued support the franchise receives.

"I would say like this: Thank you very much for the great support for Shenmue! Reaction from Japan and Europe is a little different. Here I can feel that they appreciate it, and I would like to repeat: Thank you very much!"

We then asked whether Inafune-san had give him any advice on the potential of a Kickstarter success? "It's possible that we go for the crowd funding," he replied. "But now we're in a phase of research. I had the occasion to share dinner with Inafune-san and we were talking about it."»

Re: Suzuki hinting at shenmue at gamelab with a "3" oh my go

The part I find interesting about Suzuki's comments is how the AI can be improved with today's consoles. We already had an amazing, immersive experience with character interaction in the first two games. Who knows what's percolating in his head for what will be in store next.
I got goosebumps, haha! If they let him to do what he wants with Shenmue 3, it will be magical (but always under the veil of relatability and believability).

The advice of Inafune about the crowdfunding of Shenmue 3

«It's true that I shared dinner last night with Suzuki-san, and we talked about the issue of crowdfunding. The thing I said to Suzuki-san is that with the crowdfunding ... Of course you have to think of the players when creating a game, even if you belong to a big company, but for the collective funding you have to think even more for the players, since the connection between the players and you is much stronger, so you have to carefully understand what players want and explain 'this is a game that you want, please fund it'. "That kind of attitude is very important."»

Re: Documentation Center?

Just to say this is an idea that is indeed needed for the Shenmue heritage and also a major gap will be filled in the collective knowledge of Shenmue modding. It will also keep the Shenmue modding community livelier / more active and also easier to contribute for those who want to (and not just be a knowledge for some kind of elite team of people). Applaudable endeavour to pursue!

Area Collision Data - Remove || Swap

http://i.imgur.com/XWta03g.jpg

This is a tutorial on how to remove the area collision data of any area of Shenmue, or, how to swap that data between two areas.

Video demonstration (of the collision removal) :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6zkTar6CDBE

Steps:
- Open with a hex-editor the MAPINFO.BIN file of the area you want. In our case, we will work with the file of Dobuita, found in folder "SCENE/0X/D000" (0X = 01 or 02 or 03 ...).

- Search (CTRL+F) for "COLS" and find the first reference. Start highlighting from COLS and go all the way down ...

http://i.imgur.com/3sFf0AZ.png

- ... until you find the first reference of "REGD". Stop exactly before REGD (that is not select any part from REGD or after it).

http://i.imgur.com/kx7SOuo.png

- ... With all these lines being highlighted, press the Delete (DEL) button in your keyboard.

http://i.imgur.com/5YtNXT4.gif
- Save the modified file. [Proceed to the necessary steps to create a self-bootable image file.]

About Swapping the clipping information between two MAPINFO.BIN files of two different areas:
- The only difference from the above steps, is to not Delete the highlighted part of the file, but Cut (CTRL+X) it and move it to the other file that you want to swap the clipping information with.
- That means you have to replace the "COLS ... (until before REGD)" lines of the one file, with the "COLS ... (until before REGD)" lines of the other file.

===

Things to improve/fix:
- Programmable camera movements and angles of a specific area has been removed. That is, for example, when you go to a parking lot to practice or to a vending machine to buy a drink, you will not see the usual camera movements and angles. FIXED!
- Wrap points has been removed. You will not be able to enter another area (unless, for example, if you open the door to enter the Hazuki Residence), or enter the Tomato Convenience Store, the You Arcade et cetera. FIXED!
- The vertical collision data is also removed, thus gravity is off and, in areas like Yamanose, the height of the player (Ryo) is not consistent with the height of the ground. FIXED!
- You can still not pass through some objects/models, like: humans, bikes, shutters (when the shops close) et cetera.

Notes:

- Even as a "young'n", newbie to Shenmue modding/hacking, while working on that I learned some things: go for the *crazy* way, try different (crazy, all and any) ways, trust your hunches, pay really close attention to details, think like the programmer (how they could have put things in a file et cetera).

- My thought process (wall-of-text): First, I thought to use the MAPINFO.BIN file of the folder 0000. That file doesn't contain any clipping information. I compared it visually with other mapinfo files and noticed some parts look similar (like the one from REGD and below). First I replaced in the mapinfo of Dobuita (D000, that was the area to make all my experiments) all the lines from the top until before REGD, with the ones from the mapinfo of 0000 folder, that is the lines from the top until before REGD. The end result was this . As you can see, a lot of textures, models et cetera has been removed. Then I thought about mapinfo swapping, like when you do it to access the beta versions of some areas (like Yamanose's and Sakuragaoka's). There you have to copy from after the ECAM part until the end. And thus I thought that before the ECAM part, there is all the information about textures, models et cetera. Combined with the thought that the part from REGD until the end remains the same (like with the case when I swapped D000's with 0000's), I end up removing the part from ECAM (including ECAM) until before REGD. [I removed ECAM, too, because I thought it is a command and so when it is triggered it tries to load something from the memory, which it can't find, when it has been removed from the file...] But end up doing that after several tries; first I removed the part after ECAM until before COLS, then from COLS util before REGD, and other tries. Also, I just removed the COLS, COLI et cetera parts, to see if that will do the job, too, but with no success. So, after several tries, I figured that you need to remove the lines only from COLS until before REGD (and so the part from ECAM until before COLS can remain intact). And, here's the general story of how it happened...

Re: david deville Interview with Yu suzuki

If i do accept, would it be okay or would you be all angry ? I know that i was supposed to share it with you soon, but if i can get another chance to publish it somewhere else, that'd be great. And just to make it clear, even if they publish it, i am not paid, so there is no money involved.
Without judgement and emotions, objectively/logically talking:
If you want to get more exposure, then the Internet is the way to go. You have already create some stir among the fans. One month wait will just fade away all the hype for the news.

Furthermore, using the social media will bring much more exposure for the interview than a French magazine (this is crucial it will not be in English, the international language) ever could. Being posted to Shenmue Master, then to Shenmue Dojo (here), then to other major gaming forums over the Net (like NeoGAF), it will gain exposure than a mag ever could give.

Especially, if you also publish the audio version (for example, just like this interview with Corey Marshall) along with the text, I believe it has the potential to be published later by big gaming sites, just like Kotaku, Eurogamer etc (as they did with Shenmue Master's interviews of Yu Suzuki).

If it is not a matter of money, is it a matter of credibility for yourself? Will your name on a magazine enrich your portofolio/CV? If it is not a matter of money or fame/credibility, and your incentives are just to give as much exposure as possible to it, then for the reasons explained it's better to publish it as planed before the call from that magazine; that is to Shenmue Master, then Shenmue Dojo and then anywhere on the Net. That will give it the ideal exposure.

If you thought NoconKid's ongoing recreation of Yokosuka couldn't get any more impressive, just wait till you see his new video.

The promised November update demonstrates weather effects in the form of an ominous thunderstorm over Ryo's hometown, lighting up the night sky and drenching the streets and their HD fittings with a downpour that would call a halt to all but the most dedicated training sessions.

It's every bit as beautiful as you'd expect from the hand of the South Korean super-fan with a full Shenmue remake in his sights. Let's just hope Sega doesn't rain on his parade.

Re: Shenmue II Cutscene Comparison (DC, Xbox, Demul, Xbox 36

Great video. After observing the video:
- the Xbox version has higher fidelity textures and also the greatest resolution (from the console versions)
- on Xbox 360, it lacks the blur filter (which is a good thing)
- the Dreamcast version (it seems that it) has the most vibrant colours (even though that maybe has something to do with the capture card and the consequent outcome)
- with Demul (/ with emulators) you can manage to have the highest resolution (also, if you could put the textures of the Xbox version, into the Dreamcast version, then you could have the best looking version, on both console and emu versions)

P.S.: I spotted two differences in the textures between DC's and Xbox's version: i) one of the button's in Cool Z's boombox has a different color, ii) the door of the Come Over Guest House; in DC's the door and its letters are wider, in Xbox's is and are more narrower, plus taller. [I said two, because the other known differences are already known, but for those two just mentioned I have not heard before.]

What a wonderful video! For a wonderful (fictional) person as Xiuying is... She's popular (twenty minutes of talk for her!). Everybody sees the outside, that she's beautiful, but a few can talk about her inside, that is a person of virtue. A lot of interesting and/or comical conversations!

I also learned a new Chinese saying by that video: " A huge mountain is difficult to measure ".

Re: Megatons at PSX on Dec 6th and 7th

[...]

3) Other than all that, did anyone else think the "Between Shu Ferns" crack about wanting a game called " Shamwow 4 " from Gio Corsi's #BuildingTheList was another nod towards Shenmue (and not just a random gag about the shamwow cleaning sponge)? Nevertheless, even Sony's own PR continues to entice us to contribute to their #BuildingTheList campaign. With all our continued effort, let's hope the Shenmue series becomes one of the campaign's triumphs.

About this bit of information; there was another Gaffer/insider who (in question about " Why SEGA didn't make a Shenmue HD Collection for PS360 again? ") said:

Afaik, it's mostly due to legal/copyright reasons.

back in '12 you may remember that Sega went into a port spree. JSR, Nights...they thought it was a great idea, with very low risk and nice proft potential since, well, they don't want to fund traditional AAA anymore. Multiple ports were in development, among them was the canceled Skies of Arcadia port.

Shenmue case was special since not many people know this, but apparently the engine for both games uses licensed technology. It's not Bink Video or Sofdec codecs, apparently it's related to the very own engine.

Well, the thing is, according to what I've been told, the owner of those technologies folded years ago, and it's not clear who owns the copyright now.

Someone shown Sega a working Shenmue prototype for Xbox 360...but after disappointing sales by JSR and Nights, they didn't care enough to bother with the legal hassle. So it never went through the prototype stage, and the Skies of Arcadia port was canceled.

Re: Conversation with Giocorsi (From LanDC at PSX)

Sony’s Gio Corsi talks about potential Shenmue HD release
http://gameidealist.com/news/sonys-gio-corsi-talks-about-potential-shenmue-hd-release-311/
Gio Corsi, Director of Third Party Production for PlayStation, made several comments about the potential of a Shenmue HD release during the recent PlayStation Experience event. He told a long time hardcore fan of the series, Matthew Kilpatrick, that he is paying attention to the numerous requests about the game. He also advised fans to not give up, adding that it took Sony a year to get Sega to release the Japan-only Yakuza 5 in English.

Mr. Corsi is actually a fan of Shenmue himself as he has a statue of Ryo driving a forklift in his office. Furthermore, he also told another fan who happens to post on NeoGAF that a HD release is also his “number one” personal request. At the same time, he admitted that there are several issues holding back Shenmue HD.

Another poster on NeoGAF previously indicated that a working prototype of Shenmue existed on the Xbox 360. Unfortunately, the HD release apparently had several legal issues with licensing due to the game engine. Along with the lackluster sales of Jet Set Radio and Nights rereleases, Shenmue HD never made it out of the prototype stage.

With that said, the Third Party Production was able to bring Suikoden 2 on the PlayStation Network and the above-mentioned English release of Yakuza 5. Therefore, Shenmue fans should definitely keep trying to persuade both Sony and Sega.

Thanks to the Shenmue Dojo Community Forum for compiling all the reports from the PlayStation Experience attendees.

Re: Sony's Most Anticipated Game 2015 poll vote Shenmue III

I just voted for Shenmue HD (recommended) as the Most Anticipated 2015 title.

It's not listed. Vote for it by clicking Other and write it in the textbox below.

We don't expect Shenmue to be listed in the official public results. We vote for it because we want Sony's people to see Shenmue's name to pile up in their poll like a huge mountain of requests. We want the people who count the votes to go like: "Guess what, Gio Corsi/ Adam Boyes etc. Shenmue was again the most requested title, even in this poll!"

Re: Possible Shenmue announcement in 2015?

There is no way Shenmue 3 would be the title... First announce it and then develop it? Did Sony gave Sega the money and Yu Suzuki is developing it right now? All that before releasing a Shenmue HD?

[...]
8. Phantasy Star Online 2. [...]
Sounds plausible... Fans of this game has been requesting it continuously. SEGA lately said "PSO2 is still delayed. SEGA is currently working on bringing PSO2 to the West and will update as soon as we know more." [Source: https://twitter.com/SEGA/status/507206954800803840] Furthermore, it may be the same case as with Yakuza 5; Sony funded the localization et cetera of PSO2 and they will bring it exclusively on ...PSN?

But then again, why PSO2 (or even Shenmue I-II HD) is an "unnamed IP"; its name is already established and it's also released in Japan. Also, localization can be considered a "teething issue"?

Shenmue I Mod (video): Guizhang's Mission

Back in Yokosuka, things have gone crazy... Guizhang is set on a mission to bring justice, and stop once again the dangerous gang that's always lurking to take over the area.

http://youtu.be/l007i9-BeEU

Note: This mod has been accomplished through the " Changing Fighting Style " method.

For this video, I used a program called "Aegisub". - It lets you create stylized subs. So, I made them look like the one in Shenmue (but not exactly, it's actually the font of Shenmue II's loading screen, but with colors and shadow, to make it look like Shenmue's text and sub, and match who's talking on the screen).

Then I used another program called VirtualDub. What this program does is to burn the subs in the source file. That means the subs doesn't come as a separate file, but they are burned in directly to the source video file. - The caveat with this is that it exports the video as an AVI file (there are workarounds to make it export as MP4, but they need time to be set).

However, this was not much of problem. I exported it as an AVI (without compression, for the best quality). The funny thing is that it produced an 21GB file... Therefore, then I opened this file with Camstasia Studio and finally produced an MP4 file (YouTube process MP4 files faster).
