Re: Sega Japan All Star card packs, inc. Shenmue

P.S.: Someone must do a Tweetathon demanding a true sequel of Alex Kidd in Miracle World, too...
We'll just challenge Sega to a game of rock, paper, scissors. If we win, they make Alex Kidd's Return to Miracle World. If they win, a giant weight falls on us from the sky to shut us up. (Don't worry, I've seen a mind reading stone on eBay - it's expensive but a damn sight easier to get than the one in the game.)

Re: Sega... Spectrum?

So basically if it's true, Sega could be making a "Hive-Console", it's effectively a new Sega virtual console that is a parasite to other companies hardware. Could turn out even better than a real console if it allows offline play as well as online and the entire Sega library.

Shenmue II COMPLETE NOTEBOOK Walkthrough

Greetings, Shenmue players!
This is what most of you have been waiting for. It's not Shenmue III, though...
It is Shenmue II COMPLETE NOTEBOOK Walkthrough !

UPDATE 2014: Got a low-profile videocard and emulators are running at 60fps! And btw Demul emulates as good as nullDC, if not better.
Anyway, the update covering Disc 2 part will be up in some weeks! Please keep in touch!

Shenmue II Complete Notebook guide became a Walkthrough .
Based on Vector's Shenmue I Complete Notebook guide
To replace Julian's Shenmue II Notebook guide , which was the best and most viewed on internet until now.

Long time no see, I started this work 4 years ago (last time updated on Aug. 25, 2009 (Tue)). It's true that I have given up so many times because the only way I can play this game is on an emulator. I have a notebook on-board graphics card which makes the game lag so bad (runs at 50-60% of speed, most of time). I never got to finish the games on a console before... Even with a lot of lag and bugs, I have been beating the game several times on PC during those years to understand how the notebook works. I DID collect all the entries from the notebook and I have written them all in a ".txt" file like the previous guides above, but Shenmue II notebook can't be guided like that, so I started out again on an upgraded ".pdf" project, where I can provide screenshots and steps with more resources and color, sort of a Walkthrough! If you get any questions about any particular notebook entry, note me right away.

The walkthrough includes, of course, the steps to unlock each entry like Vector did on his guide, but also features:
- tons of screenshots
- notes and hints (save before missing an entry)
- pointing out Xbox text revision on certain pages
- collecting all maps
- collecting all pawnshop flyers
- saving money
- selling at best pawnshops
- different paths with different notebook entries
- secret events
- learning all moves

:arrow: Complete Notebook current progress (as for May, 2013):
Main Entries
|--Disc 1-|-Disc 2--|-Disc 3--|--Disc 4-|
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| 100% OF THE ENTRIES COLLECTED
||||||||||||| 38% OF THE ENTRIES ON WALKTROUGH

Money Information Entries
|-Disc 1--|-Disc 2--|-Disc 3--|--Disc 4-|
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| 100% ENTRIES COLLECTED
||||||||||||| 38% OF THE ENTRIES ON WALKTROUGH

Shenmue II COMPLETE NOTEBOOK Walkthrough by Caique
Special thanks to:
- Resident Joel
- Ziming
- Force Vector (writer of complete notebook guide for Shenmue I)
- Julian McKenzie (writer of the first notebook guide for Shenmue II)
- You
Sorry for my English mistakes, I'm foreigner, learning English and Japanese everyday with Shenmue! Note me if you have any suggestions for grammar.

Hope that my efforts make Sega release Shenmue III right away

Comments are welcome!
See you next time

New Yu Suzuki Interview from MAGS Conferance

New Yu Suzuki Interview with English Translated Captions. Press the "CC" option in the video to view English subtitles.

6:34 - Yu Suzuki is asked about Shenmue 3.

Question: If he was still in discussion with Sega about Shenmue III.

Yu Suzuki: No, I do not talk about Shenmue III with Sega now.

(Hesitates) I can not talk too much.

Re: New Yu Suzuki Interview from MAGS Conferance

How are closed captions on YouTube generated? Is it machine translation, or supplied by the uploader?

Given all the other instances of Yu being misquoted at MAGS, I think it's worth exploring Rakim's point and getting a consensus on the correct translation of Suzuki's comments instead of relying on what's been supplied on YouTube.

Re: New Yu Suzuki Interview from MAGS Conferance

The English translation of that line seems a little shitty to me. The 「今セガと話してないですよ」 bit. They wrote "...do not..." when I feel that the proper English representation of that sentence should be "I am not talking with Sega right now."

The former making it seem like they're a boyfriend and girlfriend who broke up, while the latter has more of a connotation just that nothings going on for them to talk about IMO. Just a critique of the nuance.

Also when he's fumbling to find the right words it sounds like he's initially going to say that he's not talking with them yet .

It sounds to me like he still has hope or at least wants to, but just can't find a way to get it done.

Re: Sonic Excursion/Sonic Lost World

Nintendo should just buy out or merge with Sega tbh. Ya that would be expensive as hell but think of the advantage Nintendo would have with all those exclusives. They'd make the money back and then some.
Then we might actually see Shenmue games again if Nintendo could call the shots. Further Sega exclusives past this are really what the Wii U needs. Then it has a fighting chance atleast.

SHENMUE II- FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

SHENMUE II FAQ

If you require any form of material for Shenmue II, be it music, artwork, or whatever, please check here first;
http://www.planetxbox.com/shenmuedojo/shenmue2.shtml

Character profiles (please note that both of these are not yet fully complete);
http://www.planetxbox.com/shenmuedojo/shenmue2_characters.shtml
http://home.graffiti.net/milesprower/s2charprofiles.htm

Q. I want to download a certain music track from Shenmue II, where can I get it?
First, PLEAAAASE check here before asking;
http://www.planetxbox.com/shenmuedojo/shenmue2_music.shtml
If we do not have the track you are looking for, then please keep in mind that LanDC is currently in the process of ripping all the music, so be patient; most if not all of the tracks will be up eventually.

Q. Can I use my save from the US version of Shenmue I on the PAL version of Shenmue II (Dreamcast version)
It is indeed possible. This FAQ should help you. Follow this link, and then scroll down until you see the "US-to-UK save conversion FAQ", and click on it.

Q. I am stuck on a certain part, HELP!
Check here first;
http://www.planetxbox.com/shenmuedojo/shenmue2_guides.shtml

Q. How do I get the Bad Ending?
The Bad Ending is triggered on June 31st; so it is a punishment for taking too long to finish the game. The best way to get through the days fast is to keep failing the event at Zhangyu’s Barber Shop, by pressing A every time.
You can download the Bad Ending here;
English: http://www.fileplanet.com/dl.aspx?/planetxbox/shenmuedojo/Shenmue/shenmue2x/2xbadendmpg.zip
Japanese:
http://www.fileplanet.com/dl.aspx?/planetxbox/shenmuedojo/shenmue/shenmue2jap/shen2badending.zip

Q. I’m having trouble unlocking everything on the Shenmue Collection, help!
Here’s a useful guide;
http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/dreamcast/file/shenmue_ii_collection.txt

Q. I’m having trouble getting all the snapshots needed on the Xbox version, help!/How do I unlock the sidestory comics?
Here’s a useful guide;
http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/xbox/file/shenmue_ii_shots.txt

Q. Are Ziming and Lan Di the same person?
There is sufficient evidence to suggest that Ziming and Lan Di are NOT the same person.
Firstly, Ziming’s full name is Ziming Hong; and we know now that Lan Di’s real name is Zhao Longsun. Two different names.
Also, this sidestory comic that can be unlocked on the Xbox version of Shenmue II seems to suggest they aren’t the same person; (take particular notice of the last page)

http://www.planetxbox.com/shenmuedojo/images/story/comics/Xiuying&Zimming00.jpg

http://www.planetxbox.com/shenmuedojo/images/story/comics/Xiuying&Zimming01.jpg

http://www.planetxbox.com/shenmuedojo/images/story/comics/Xiuying&Zimming02.jpg

http://www.planetxbox.com/shenmuedojo/images/story/comics/Xiuying&Zimming03.jpg

While the figure of the present-day Ziming is quite shadowy, you can see clearly that it is not Lan Di.

This is a picture of the four leaders of the Chi You Men that was released on Shenmue.com.
http://www.planetxbox.com/shenmuedojo/images/shenmue3/preview/large/no44_pic_03.jpg

While the other three with Lan Di are obscured, it is immediately obvious that it is Niao Sun to the right of Lan Di (You can find more information on her here; http://www.planetxbox.com/shenmuedojo/shenmue3_preview.shtml
, who is featured with Ziming in the aforementioned sidestory comic. And that seems to be Ziming on the far right in this picture. This picture should show you again that Lan Di and Ziming are not the same person;
http://www.planetxbox.com/shenmuedojo/images/shenmue3/preview/zimingnotlandi.jpg
On a sidenote, some people often believe a scar can be seen on the face of the young Ziming, like Lan Di’s, however if you look closer, it seems to just be dirt, like on Wong’s face.

By the way, the identity of the person on the far left of the Four Leaders pic is not yet known.

Q. What does Joy say to Ryo outside the Come Over Guest House on the morning before his first day of work?
The language Joy speaks in this scene is Chinese, and what she says translates to "Did you have pleasant dreams?" This is understood to be a traditional morning greeting in China.

Q. Is it possible to say goodbye to Joy when leaving Wan Chai?
Nope. Although, if you didn’t trigger the conversation with her at Fortune’s Pier where you talk about Master Chen and Gui Zhang before the day where you have to say goodbye to everyone, you can do it on that very day. Ryo doesn’t say goodbye to her though.

Q. Is there anywhere you can train alone?
Unfortunately not. While in Wan Chai, spar with Jianmin. In Kowloon there are many street fights you can participate in. But there is nowhere you can train alone.

Q. How do I get the Duck Races?
You can only do this at Disc 2. First, visit Tomato Convenience Store at Golden
Qr. and make a friend with Izumi. Go to Pigeon Park and talk to Eileen
Edelweiss who training Tai Chi arts and facing the ocean. She should talk to
you first and challenge you into a fight.

Now go to Green Market Qr. And enter the alleyway next Green Market Pawnshop
where there are Roll It on Top and Lucky Hit Stands. Go straight when you enter
the alley and you will see a store where a man is arranging some cardboard
boxes. If you have not followed the steps above, then the back door will be
still nailed-shut. But if you've done the steps, the back door should be
opened. Enter the back door to the vacant lot. There's some free collectibles
and a Big Bronze Medal for you. Take them all.

If you go to Pine Arcade game, the 3F should be opened. Go to 3F and choose
[Participate] when the man asks you and pay $20. Here you have to fight Eileen.
You will get Big Silver Medal. You can participate again and this time you will
have Izumi as your opponent. It's the remixed Tomato's theme song when you're
fighting her. She has a lot of deadly moves. But you can win easily by avoiding
her attack and do the triple punch combo. When her gauge is already near the
limit, she will try to grab you in her ultimate move. This time you will have
to do NQTE by pressing [X+B,Y+A]. Quite difficult isn't it? Not only that, you
will have to do this for several times until you win. If you failed, Izumi will
knock you down by her ultimate move "Viva Sakura Festival".

After you win, Izumi will promise to take you to an interesting place. Now go
to Tomato Convenience Store and press X Button when you're facing to Izumi. She
will take you to Wise Man's Qr. where the duck race is being held. Read the
"Gambling" section for the rule.

You also can participate your own duck in the race. To get your own duck, you
must go to Man Mo Temple's backyard and you can press the X Button at the tree
again to catch some more leaves. Catch two or more leaves in one catch. Do this
two times. Next, a white feather should fall with the other leaves. Catch the
feather and Ryo should say "Damn!". Choose [Catch] to catch the duck and you
will have it as a key item.

If you go to the Duck Race, you can pay $50 to participate your duck in the
race. Press R Trigger to accelerate and D-Pad to control the duck. It reminds
me of the forklift race from Shenmue I. Win the race and you will have the Big
Gold Medal as your prize.

After you win the gold medal, I think it's impossible to win again that race
since some baby ducks race against your duck. They have incredible speed and
stamina.

Q. How do I trigger the Fangmei’s Birthday event?
This is a VERY detailed guide which I highly recommend;

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts (Read OP Before Posting)

I was lucky enough to have SMS as a primary console when younger, my Dad opted for that over the NES. Back then all of the kids who had an NES always wanted to come over and play the SMS using the 3D glasses for Missile Defense 3D and other supported titles. Not to mention playing actual quality arcade games at home, like Hang On and Outrun. I still have it along with all of the accessories and such in pristine condition. We had an NES to boot as an Uncle handed one over with a ton of games (he owned a rental shop), so I experienced just about everything it had to offer and I too loved it. The Sega Master System however, that was the console of choice due to it's innovation. There's a lot of Sega fans because of later reasons, though I'm happy to have experienced it all since the literal beginning.

Hmm. So it allows them to create something that existed on the Dreamcast nearly 15 years ago. Progress~!

Support Shenmue in a big German poll

The pretty big German print videogame magazine M! Maniac is having a voting competition for the best videogame of all time on their website. It's not some fan project, it's a poll of one of the leading German magazines for videogames and I'm not affiliated with it. I registered here a long time ago. You can check that, if you think I'm a spammer :)
The competition uses some sort of playoff system, where two games compete over 24 hours to advance to the next round. In the first round Shenmue has to receive more votes than Assassin's Creed II, so the competition is pretty stiff. The voting started two hours ago, so you have 22 more hours to vote for Shenmue and bring it one step closer to victory and a proof of demand for the game by fans in Germany. If you want to support Shenmue here is the link: http://www.maniac.de/content/umfrage-bundesspielewahl-2013-vorrunde-match-28-shenmue-vs-assassins-creed-ii . If there are people interested in the competition here, I would also inform you, if Shenmue makes it to the second round and needs votes again :)

Re: Toshihiro Nagoshi asked about Shenmue?

Shame. Also in this interview he talks about how there is no future of Yakuza on Wii U which begs the question then why do the HD port?
Guess you can't fault his honesty... :???:

Is there anyone at SEGA truly wanting to work on Shenmue if they were allowed? How many people are left from that team?
While not actually AT Sega, Sumo Digital have expressed a number of times that they'd love to take on Shenmue III. Obviously they have no influence on that happening though.
True. Money talks I guess. Same with Monster Hunter and Dragon Quest. They just handed out some cash under the table and suddenly a series that is more common on Sony appears on the Nintendo.

Sumo I love. I also feel bad for them in a way. They are more SEGA than Sega is right now. They are in their hearts old school fans that bleed blue. So must be frustrating they are limited to racing(which is excellent) and Tennis games. They really should be allowed to open up. SEGA should do with Sumo what Nintendo did with Retro. Make them in a premiere 1st party developer and hand them loved franchises.

The Chiyoumen are a major crime organization based on the Chinese mafia. They are involved in drug and weapon and stolen artifact trafficking and have great influence over the Chinese government. They are lead by a mysterious leader called "Tian Di" or Tentei and have four executives in charge of 4 different regions or directions who are represented by the four heavenly beasts metaphorically. As for Master Baihu, it is highly unlikely we will meet him again. He is supposed to be the final test for Ryo to join the Yellowhead elite.

Lan Di => Dragon
Ziming => Tiger
Niao Sun => Phoenix
Unknown Master => Snake Tortoise

We know that Lan Di is the primary antagonist thus far, however, the back story of Shenmue is more complicated than meets the eye and involves various themes such as revenge and Chinese folklore (The Shenmue Tree and the legend of Bailu Village). We also have 3 other villians and a mysterious "god father" like figure who oversees the Chiyoumen's operations (Tentai). Hints and clues suggest that Niao Sun and Ziming are involved in Shenmue III's plot as Ryo is given the comma bead by Xiuying and the comic given. Lan Di will most likely not have been fought so soon in Shenmue III.

Many valuable questions must be answered in Shenmue III:

1. How did Iwao meet Sunming Zhao?
2. What did they do in Bailu village? Did they both train under the instructions of a village master?
3. Are we done with Yuanda Zhu's involvement in the story?
4. Will we ever meet up with Guizhang or Ren again?
5. Will Ryo have to visit this Meng Cun area, where Iwao is supposed to have killed Sunming?
6. What of Shenhua's stepfather?
7. What is the purpose of the sword of seven stars?
8. Would Lan Di of arrived in Bailu village already before Ryo get's there? And what exactly is Lan Di going to Bailu village for? Yuanda Zhu never fully explains.
9. What is Shenhua's real father's role/identity?
10. What connection did Shenhua's stepfather have with Sunming Zhao?
11. Will Ryo ever pay back Fuku-san for losing his lifesavings? (j/k)

Super happy that I won, I couldn't believe it...I must have been playing for like 6 hours straight for like 3 or 4 nights remembering all the different enemies, what works on them, and what doesn't, and to be honest, I think it was like the last 20 and the boss that I managed to take out pretty quick, cause watching the video back now, the start is slightly embarrassing haha, me running kicking thin air, hehe. But yea awesome stuff! I'm surprised that only 9 people entered?

Although I won't be crazy active, I hope to post again from time to time, especially since this competition reunited me with the game I love, and it's amazing community that has supported and stuck around this long. It's nice to still see some familiar names.

All the best guys, and thanks for putting on this comp, I really enjoyed it. I'd have bought the statue anyways, but this is fantastic!

Re: Shenmue III Supposedly Confirmed for PS4

It's true, I have an anonymous source on the inside as well, and all the trade papers in Uzbekistan are talking about it. Go ahead and check them, you'll see I'm not lying.

Re: Shenmue 3 and E3 2013

Isn't this said every year?

Why give up when games have been getting sequels 26 years after the first. Games that just got released after 14 years. A re-rlease that has been asked off for over a decade. It's still possible it will come out eventually.

Re: XBox One

It seems apart from the 24 hr thing MS now have a set up similar to Steam with some other stuff that itunes and the amazon stores use so small hope they also do some Steam like deals.

They have improved recent deals on the 360 but that could be just a fire sale type thing for long time owners looking to upgrade this year?

Michael Pachter thinks publishers might actually wait a few years to start blocking used games. Personally I think they should have just worked out something better with stores, For instance no game can be traded in for its first 3-6 months on sale.[Which is when it sells the most anyways]

The Xbox One does not have a similar setup as Steam and it is a lame and stupid argument. The only thing similar is that Microsoft have built a digital distribution service, but they also tie it to psychical media that casts the illusion of game ownership.

You can not play offline on Xbox One for more than 24 hours.
You can play offline on Steam indefinitely.

You can not play the same game on at least two Xbox One consoles at the same time.
You can play the same game offline with Steam on as many PCs as you want.

There will most likely not be major sales on Xbox One. (GOD are almost the same price as new games MONTHS after release)
There are deep sales frequently on Steam. Some up to 95% off .

There will most likely not be any such thing as a Humble Bundle on Xbox One.
There are weekly and publisher focused Humble Bundles where you can set your own price point, and decide where your money goes in which you can access your game on Steam.

DRM is always required on the Xbox One.
There are games that have zero DRM on Steam, and you can even launch them while Steam is not running .

Microsoft services are the only markets for those wanting to get their games on the Xbox One, thus blocking competition.
On Steam there are various markets that offer competitive prices, forcing Steam to compete and offer better benefits.

You most likely will have to pay for a subscription service such as Xbox Live to gain any of the “features” such as digital distribution, cloud saving, playing online.
Game publishers set subscription models on Steam, a lot of them free. There's free cloud saving, and every other such benefits that Xbox One does not offer .

The Xbox One will probably cost over 300$
Steam costs 0.00$

Consoles are not known for modding (at least legitimately), and the Xbox One won't be the place to do it either.
Steam encourages modding, has SteamWorks for publishers and other free tools for developers and consumers such as free source engines, free film makers, free game tools .

The Xbox One does not offer backwards capability.
Steam offers full backwards capability , the software you have now and before will likely run on any computer as powerful or more powerful than the one it was originally installed on.

But somehow Xbox One is similar to steam. Apples are similar to oranges too, in that their fruit. Aside from that they're completely different.
