I mean shit like coins, collectible cards, figurines, soundtracks, posters, etc. It's fair enough if you use some of them for decorative purposes (e.g. figurines, posters) If it goes unopened, untouched, unused or whatever though, seriously, what is the point? The only time I ever buy shit that won't be used is if I've torrented an album or game and thought to myself "yeah, this defo deserves my money". There's a purpose behind that though, a reason in which it's bought. To collect just for the sake of collecting though, not avin it. Just a waste of money.
As for Raithos' "They go easily spend $60 bucks at a bar drinking and smoking for a few hours, then have nothing to show for it but a hangover the next morning lol." comment... are you mental ? Do you really need a keepsake for every moment, every memory? A collectible for everything you do? It's called living in the moment, enjoying life. Actively socialising. And besides, sometimes you do have something to show for it. A pint glass you walked home with, a bus ticket, a broken wrist, a bird's phone number, an STD, etc.
All I'm saying is, I can't see the attraction, entertainment, enjoyment or whatever in buying something just for it sit there unused doing nothing. This doesn't just apply to gamers, celebrities and antique collectors are just as bad. Buying expensive shit just to throw it in a lock-up and forget you ever owned it. And in the case of a celebrity, it's usually the lock-up itself they forget about. I actually used to know someone who bought shitloadsa books constantly to fill his bookcases up. Place was like a fucking library. Never read a single one of em. What is the damn point? It's even worse when the same people plead poverty n shit. Irritating as fuck.
