E3 Excitement?

So, this will undoubtedly be the best E3 in ages, I think. We will finally what so many developers have been keeping under wraps for so long now, there's been radio silence off a LOT of them for ages now, hasn't there?

Anyone have any predictions, since it's only a couple of weeks away now. I'll allow stuff from people who don't attend/show off stuff at E3 but either instead do it just before or afterwards normally (such as Rockstar and Nintendo).

Leaks/rumours so far that I have seen around the net:

From Software's new game (Project Beast - a new Souls series?)
New Tomb Raider
Deus Ex: Universe (Human Revolution follow up)
Final Fantasy XV
Suda51's new games (plural)
Retro Studios new game (supposedly a dormant Nintendo IP - probably either Metroid, F-Zero or Star Fox)
Resident Evil 7
Ni-Oh
Phantom Dust 2

No doubt going to be there:

Batman: Arkham Knight
Mirror's Edge 2
Metal Gear Solid 5
Assassin's Creed 5 (it's annual now, right?)
Zelda
Quantum Break (so excited to see this one)
Generic war shooter #51

Maybe/maybe not:

Fatal Frame V
Gravity Rush 2
Zelda Musou
The Last Guardian (lol...)
Sleeping Dogs 2 (AKA Triad Wars)
New Mario

Hopes and dreams [never happening in this timeline; always get carried with this part]:

Mystical Ninja/Goemon revival
Mischief Makers 2
Star Fox 64-2
Shenmue 3
Growlanser VII
Vagrant Story 2
Final Fantasy Tactics 3DS
Metal Gear AC!D 3 (Vita)
New MegaTen spin off
Front Mission 4+5 HD
FFXII HD
Matsuno's new game (whatever it is)
The Silver Case (3DS/Vita)
Lots of horror games/detective games/2D Japanese games/tactical RPGs

Re: Yokosuka Photo Tour

Hey, i'm glad you guys liked the post. I've added a couple other pics i had missed the first time. Shenmue really is a game about atmosphere, and Suzuki and team AM2 really executed that in a way few other games have.

[...] Remember that Hazuki residence once was a temple. [...]
I never knew that. Where that information can be found originally?
And, the Japanese official guides cover most of the data, though I'm not sure about the English guides.

Yea, the strategy guide says:
"The Hazuki residence was originally a temple, which the Hazuki family came to occupy when it lost viability due to the absence of a chief priest. This explains why the residence looks so formal. The imposing front gate is a remnant from that era."

So much thought and soul went into building this universe, not to get off topic, but things like the character profiles and backgrounds for every NPC in the game including animals, shit like that is just brilliantly insane.

Re: Yokosuka Photo Tour

What was the story of the old guy that sits in the kids play area and smokes cigarettes? He always struck me as a haunted soul.
You can meet two old men in Suzume Park. The one who is smoking is Liu Gong Hui, father of the owner of Liu Barber & Hair Salon. Check out his profile in this page:

http://shenmuedojo.net/new/games/s1characters_dobuita.html

The other guy is not smoking, but more spooky. Do you mean this one, maybe? His name is Lin Xiang Xuan. Find his profile here:

I HAVE RETURNED TO MARTIAL ARTS BECAUSE OF SHENMUE

Not sure what section I was supposed to start this in but I guess the future of Shenmue is somewhere where you guys might have a better chance of reading it.
During my mid teen 14-16 I studied Kung Fu ( I am 39 now) and was described by my sensei as very talented and amongst the best he has seen for my age. Sadly upon leaving school ( we leave at 16 I the UK unless we choose to stay for further education) I started shift work in a local factory and abandoned my club. Despite this I have always remembered my training and have continued to have an interest in martial arts by being big into beat em ups, esp Neo Geo 2D fighters and Sega 3D fighters.
So after once again completing Shenmue 1 & 2 at Xmas on Dreamcast which I have done every year since about 2008.I also for the first time completed the Xbox Shenmue 2 via my 360 for the first time and was pleasantly surprised how good it was ( apart from Rens voice ). But this time I found myself thinking more deeply about the martial arts side of the game and the training/discipline involved in them. Karate appears to be what Ryo is taught by his father despite him saying Ju Jitsue although both are of Japanese origin.

So after 24 years out the game I decided to join a local Karate club, due to the influence of Shenmue, although I dident tell my instructor I was tak8ng it up because of a videogame. After only a month I am very surprised by the similarities of Wado Ryu Karate and the moves Ryo uses in Shenmue. In fact so much of it makes sense and I feel the Shenmue vibe when training as so much of it seems familiar. My instructor has commented how I seem to be naturally picking up Karate but he doesn't know how I believe it is because of Shenmue. This may sound a little sad or egocentric to some of you but I think it shows just how powerful Shenmue is a game and way of life.

On a different note I have had a Shenmue tattoo this morning and will post a picture next week after the scab/swelling has gone down.

Click the link to try bring back Shenmue on Xbox!

http://i.imgur.com/ZZzWHHU.png

CLICK THIS LINK...
https://twitter.com/intent/tweet?screen_name=XboxP3&text=Shenmue&hashtags=bringbackOGxboxgames%2CSaveShenmue
...AND THEN CLICK "TWEET". That's it! :)

Phil Spencer (a.k.a. @XboxP3, he is the President at Microsoft Game Studios) will get a notification about your Shenmue request!

UPDATE: http://xbox.uservoice.com/forums/251647-gaming-achievements/suggestions/6028512-bring-shenmue-3-to-xbox-one (ONE MORE WAY to support!)

F.A.Q.:

Q: Why this is happening?

A: Because Phil Spencer said that he is open to hear ideas about original Xbox games to bring back, as can been seen here: https://twitter.com/XboxP3/status/471467263271657473

Q: Didn't Phil said they're not going to make it?

A: Phil also said Gears of War ran its course and then bought the IP. Decisions like that are not monolithic in nature. And, with the right pressure, he may change his mind about Shenmue, too!

Q: I have my doubts? Is this going to work?

A: Nobody in this world is able to know. However, when you TRY, big things could happen! For example, think back what attention and positive signs we managed to achieve so far with SONY:

Re: NeoGAF: New Japanese trademark from Sega (Shenmue)

I'm still pretty confident that we'll get at least a Shenmue I, Shenmue II HD collection released this year or next. There has been way too much chatter and smoke this year for nothing to happen. We are pretty sure that they were working on it. So who knows? Maybe they had to change direction with the release of the next gen consoles?

Blind optimism? Probably. Call me Stevie Wonder.

Help induct Shenmue into The Library of Congress!

http://www.change.org/en-GB/petitions/warren-spector-induct-shenmue-into-the-library-of-congress-game-canon-saveshenmue?recruiter=54807131&utm_campaign=twitter_link_action_box&utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=share_petition

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cf-MK4599A8

What is Shenmue?

Shenmue was a video game created by SEGA Programmer Yu Suzuki. It was developed during the production cycles of both the Sega Saturn and The Sega Dreamcast and it was released for the Sega Dreamcast in 2000.

Why is Shenmue Important?

It was notable for influencing many aspects of modern video games. It was influential in the use of Quick-Time Events, an aspect later seen in Resident Evil 4 and Heavy Rain. It was a game that preceeded Grand Theft Auto 3 in using full-3D free-roaming and real-life weather effects, and allows in-game interactions that weren't possible before. It was one of first true cinematic experiences in modern games, with an amazing story that attracts a huge fanbase in both Japan and The West during the time/

Despite the influence Shenmue had in modern gaming, the franchise remains dormant after the end of the Dreamcast and the lack of sales in Shenmue 2 in Xbox. It's been 14 years since the first Shenmue game and 12 years since Shenmue 2, and yet there has yet to be a re-release of the first 2 games in digital marketplaces (Steam/Playstation Network/XBox Live/GoG) nor has Shenmue 3 ever been announced by Sega or any developer/publisher in the last decade. And thus, we believe that Shenmue is in the risk of being forgotten and ignored by modern gaming culture.

And thus, we believe that Shenmue deserves to be preserved in order to remain remembered by the video game industry, and we believe that the best place for Shenmue to belong is in the Game Canon of United States The Library of Congress.

What is The Game Canon?

The Game Canon is a list of video games to be considered for preservation by the Library of Congress. The creation of this list is "an assertion that digital games have a cultural significance and a historical significance."

The current list of video games being preserved by the Library of Congress under The Game Canon is as followed:

-Spacewar!
-Star Raiders
-Zork
-Tetris
-SimCity
-Super Mario Bros. 3
-Civilization I/II
-Doom
-Warcraft series
-Sensible World of Soccer

And thus, we believe that Shenmue deserves to be on this list. Its influence on modern gaming makes it equal alonside Doom and Super Mario Brothers. And by having Shenmue on this list, it can finally bring back interest to the franchise by the gaming community, which will allow Sega to pick interest in remastering the game on modern digital marketplaces and allowing Yu Suzuki to continue production on Shenmue 3, where Ryo can finally face his revenge on Lan Di.....

Re: Persona/Shin Megami Tensei series

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner 2 is coming to PS2 Classics on US PSN next week.

YES! So good. Now I can actually play this game, since it never came out in EU region. Loved the rest of the Devil Summoner series and this one sounds like it really refines Raidou 1's system in really cool ways. Plus I've heard nothing but great things about the story. Think this'll be my next JRPG.

Re: Yu Suzuki at Gamelab 2014 (Information & Multimedia)

I was disappointed when I heard about the production of shenmue online. I don't like mmorpgs and didn't think that was the way the series needed to go. I always saw that as an evolution of the way they were going to take the series and not just a side story game. With the success of ffxi and world of Warcraft i could see sega pushing them down that path. I love you guys but I don't want to play shenmue with you.

Re: Random Thoughts

Peter, the same sorts of things ring true for me and I'm doing things to try and improve my life; joining some clubs (just being more social in general), changing jobs, training myself up in my chosen career path, changing my diet dramatically and just spending more time with my family. I've had similar depression bouts on and off for a couple of years and just decided that it was time to change. Those same principles can help you too, just think about what it is that you want to do and plan out a way to do what you want and where you want to be. Also join some social clubs, whether they be meetup groups in your local area or active groups like martial arts, sports or recreational activities like drama/acting or musician groups or even something as obscure as learning archery. Maybe trying something new and thinking outside the box will help you to do something you would never had imagined you would enjoy. It's time that you made some new friends. I also quit Facebook a couple of years ago and it was definitely for the best. I find that the more you sit around and think about these things such as "what have I been doing with my life?" the more depressed you will be about it, so try and get out and do these things asap.

There's more people that have been in your position than you may realise (such as myself) and as shown by people on here, we're here for you through these difficult times. You can chat with me anytime via PM.

Re: Great Anime Music

I have problems with Trigun as a whole, but the soundtrack ain't one of them. I remember way back in high school, back when I'd only seen the first five or six episodes of the show and still thought it was the bee's knees (a simpler time), a friend of mine bought a couple of the soundtracks, and we kind of passed it around our little circle of friends so we could all burn a copy. Used to listen to this stuff all the time. I still want to learn how to play the opening theme on guitar someday. Tsuneo Imahori is fantastic (apparently he was a member of The Seatbelts on the Cowboy Bebop soundtrack; didn't know that until just now).

Re: Yakuza series

I don't think the situation is as binary as you explain. Classic investors are maybe only concerned about the incomes but the goal is still the same : do the best product as possible or it's going to be a flop on the market and a loss of money for the investors (including banks), whatever your initial purpose.
I really really have to disagree, there's a reason why marketing budgets are comparable to development budgets these days and that's because they have a greater influence on a product's success than the product itself.

Also what you did was very immature, and you should have just gone to HR. So, if you get fired it's on you and I wouldn't expect any sympathy for it either.

One more thing, you say you didn't do it because she turned you down yet you keep repeating she did and she's just slightly above average in the looks department...

Unusual Proficiency Level Increase and Disc differentiation.

So if some of you guys dont already know. Theres something unusual about the proficiency level increase in Shenmue I. Of course you increase it by practicing at places but did you know there is actually a pretty big increase that happens to evey move when you change discs due to progression in the story. So when you swap discs because you've completed one, the next time you load your file, the level of the moves are significantly higer than before. Heres the kicker however! When you do the skip disc 1 glitch via the stairs. The level of the move do not increase at all. Wonder why? Did the programmers do something to make move levels higer when you swap discs? Im very curious. Also note that in disc 1. The audio that comes from Ryo when doing moves like the Cyclone kick and the Brutal tiger in free battle are different fom disc 2 and 3. the fighting audio from disc 1 is also the same in the entirety of Shenmue II.

Re: Shenmue 3 Kickstarter announced at E3 2015!

Are you forgetting that he said there are recap videos for people who want to catch up on the story?

If you started out like that, you wouldn't even be a member of this forum.
In the meantime he is doing what he can with the means he was given. He isn't going to say you have to play the first 2 games because it would be very difficult for a wider audience to be able to play them seeing that they're on dead consoles and have shot up in price so instead he's offering the next best thing. Obviously playing the first 2 is better but to catch up on the story the recap videos are sufficient. It worked well enough for the Yakuza games.

As for your other comment I played shenmue 1 first when it was released in Europe though the second is by far my favourite game.

I'm still well hyped up right now! It's only just really sinking in. Shenmue 3 isn't just a myth anymore.

Two years seems like a long time now, but trust, two years goes so fast. And even when it does come, I think it'll at least be a good two to three months of me just looking at the box and never going on the internet, and after that I'll start replaying the original games. I think I'll pass on the demo too. That reminds me, we need to bump that old thread about how you would play Shemue 3 when it comes!

Alright everyone. After a few requests and support from members in me doing this again and especially after Shenmue 3 was announced I decided it was indeed a great time to revitalize the podcast and stick to it.

I present to you all the first episode, which is really just an intro to where I want to go with this. Episode 0 is just myself but I will get others to join in soon enough.

Feedback is welcome. I want to turn this into a community podcast and build it up to help the fan base.

Re: 10000 dinner reward back up for grabs!

I feel guilty now, Peter...

I feel like I need to explain who I am now.. I'm not a casual Shenmue fan. My brother and I are 35. We are identical twins and we help lead a school just outside Guilin in Yangshou where we teach poor kids English in helping them get scholarships to achieve better education.

This was inspired by Shenmue. My Avatar is of me laying on a raft on the Lijiang river just outside Guilin.

I've been there from the beginning like most of you. This will be a great experience in my life that I will treasure until I die.

Re: Suzuki, "I want to make Shenmue 4"

I'm so incredibly happy that he hasn't decided to end the series with Shenmue 3. Even if Shenmue 3 does horribly (which I doubt) and we're left on another cliffhanger, that's still preferable to me than a rushed product just so I "know what happens". I don't play Shenmue merely because i'm curious about the story. I play Shenmue because its story is presented brilliantly and I want nothing to compromise that in further games.

We've seriously been begging for Shenmue 3 for 14-years and now that we are finally getting the game for sure at this point, I cannot believe that people are seriously complaining!

I am not even talking about the management of the KS page or the campaign in general, but people being like "oh, yeah I want Shenmue 3, but won't support it unless they announce a physical PS4 version." Or, "this game will suck if we don't reach 10-million!"

I have way more faith in Suzuki San than to think he'd only ask for 2-million just so he could give us a crap game just to finally shut us up. Apparently some people in the community think this is what he is doing

I know this is a fraction of the overall community, but it just blows my mind that some people are really complaining at this point. We are getting the game! Be happy! God damn! ](*,)

Re: Yu Suzuki makes statement on funding & budget on KS upda

Nice to see things fully clarified :) Even if it doesn't make the 10m mark, I'm still beyond happy Shenmue III is even happening at all.
