Re: Nintendo and Sega discussing the future of Shenmue ?

Best I recall, no one taught me how to do anything. I believe I was the first person to ever start modding the game, and I was capable of doing things back then that people still can't do today with all their new software. I still have people asking me how I altered camera angles. Hell, people used to get upset with me back in the day because I was too selfish to share my knowledge and give up any spotlight! So yeah..... of course, Bysby took me under his wing and showed me the ropes. *sarcasm* I'm not sure what spawned that crock of shit lie, but it couldn't be further from reality.

Shenmue III Ready for Next-Gen!!!

http://www.shenmuedojo.net/images/news/coming.jpg

August 29th Edit: Kikizo's Adam Doree has told us that we should NOT expect an official announcement at TGS (Tokyo Game Show) next month, because it's just too soon. Actually, we're told that an official announce may not even reach us in 2005 at all. So no one get excited for any official news in the really near future.

Their update is now up! It IS about Shenmue III, just as we suspected! According to Kikizo, Shenmue III does exist and IS planned for release!

The article: http://games.kikizo.com/news/200508/141_p1.asp

Haha, they used a picture from my current wallpaper of Ryo with a sword. :D :D

Edit again: Just let me stress again that Kikizo/Adam Doree are very reliable. Adam has a rather long history in reporting videogame news, and he's definitely not the kind of person to post info unless it's examined thoroughly. So trust us, there's no need to disbelieve what Adam says.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Incase you're one of those people who do not visit the main page often, this forum topic should catch your attention.

All right, some of you may know of the website Kikizo.com . Kikizo is a videogame website (and a reliable one) just like IGN, Gamespot, etc. However, most of Kikizo's staff (especially Adam Doree) really love Shenmue, unlike places like Gamespot. Anyway, the Dojo staff recently got e-mails from Adam, telling us all to expect a report on their site which would be "of interest to you all!" This is very exciting because he's never e-mailed us like this before, and I doubt he'd do it for Shenmue Online news. We think that it must have something to do with Shenmue III, so let's cross our fingers and keep a look out!

Ren, killed by Ryo's hands?

http://cdn.escapistmagazine.com/media/global/images/library/deriv/698/698943.jpg

So, how about these concept artworks? I haven't been this interested nor pissed off in a long time. I'm vehemently against spoilers, yet hungry for even a shard of new Shenmue information. It's a shame we have to see such major spoilers before playing the game (IF we ever do see it in action), but it's oh so intriguing. On the bright side however, these concepts may slightly differ from the final version. Even if they don't, they're vague enough that much is still left to be discovered.

On to the topic at hand... I posted about this on the 500K Facebook page as well, but I figured it was time to reappear on the Dojo because this theory is worth spreading. My theory is that a deceased Ren is being carried off by Akira (Ryo) in the 10th concept image. More importantly, Ren has been killed by the hands of his friend, Akira. Firstly, at the top left corner of image 9, that's an alternately dressed Ren. In the background, a horde of people appear to be charging after Akira for an epic battle. Is Ren leading these people into battle, or is he there for Akira? Remember the concept art of Ren on a horse? It's possible that the Chiyoumen could entice Ren with promises of riches if he joins them. I would say he's there to support Akira, but who knows. They succeed in this battle apparently, defeating Lan Di as Yu Suzuki so wonderfully spoiled for us. That's assuming Lan Di didn't already meet his demise long before this scene.

http://cdn.escapistmagazine.com/media/global/images/library/deriv/698/698955.jpg

So what next? As you can see by the map, this epic battle depicted in image 9 occurs somewhere in Western China. In concept image 10, Akira is holding someone's apparent lifeless body. I'm convinced by the clothing that it's Ren as seen in image 9, minus the bandana. If you'll notice, Akira is now ironically wearing a white headband (to honor his former friend?). What happened? If the epic battle is over and Ren didn't perish there, what killed him in the following chapter 10 that appears to take place far away near Beijing (?). I'm thinking after Lan Di's defeat, Ren and Ryo now have access to both mirrors, and Ren's desire to unlock the treasures of the Qing Dynasty overcomes him. According to Master Chen, there will be trouble if those two mirrors come together. Whether that's in the form of a mythical beast resurrecting on Earth, or that's simply a metaphor for something else very grim, I think it's something that needs to be avoided. Akira may have no choice but to stop Ren, which is why he's still honoring his friend with the headband, and the fact that he's clasping his body doesn't signify a hate-filled battle.

If you'll remember, there's a flashback scene in Shenmue I where little Ryo gets into a fight with a friend at school. Iwao tells him, "A friend you can trust is a true friend indeed." I believe this flashback has a lot of significance, since everyone warns Ryo that Ren isn't exactly trustworthy. It shows in his incessant talk of money, and his giddiness towards the Qing Dynasty treasure. It's obvious that Ryo and Ren have grown closer by the end of Shenmue II, but Ren still may not be the most honest and loyal friend in the world. Thoughts?

Re: Ren, killed by Ryo's hands?

That brings up the question if they already ditched this element, when they changed the main character to Ryo.

The protagonist was intended to be Akira long into development. Ryo's filename in Shenmue I is still "AKIR". There's also character models of Akira left in the discs with simply a white shirt and arm bands, like in the Saturn version. This makes me believe everything will occur as these concepts depict in the Shenmue we know. However...

http://shenmuedojo.net/images/Shenmueonline/images/somap.jpg

Here's some of the areas we were going to visit in Shenmue Online. They said these same areas would be visited in the actual game. Xi'an, Suzhou, Macau (mentioned in Shenmue Online news but not in this picture) are also seen in the original concept map that Yu showed at GDC, but I don't see Korea listed in that GDC map. This would indicate that something major has been altered since that GDC concept map, because I can tell you we're going to Korea if we ever see Shenmue III. Not only did they confirm this with Shenmue Online, but that little piece of art in the Hazuki Basement with a warrior on a horse? That's Korean. How do I know this? In What's Shenmue's files, you can find that item in Ryo's inventory, even though they don't let you take it with you in the final game. The text is in Japanese, but the name translates to "Photo of Jongno-gu" or something like that. Jongno-gu is a district of Seoul, South Korea. I actually made that discovery not too long ago, but I didn't find it that important to post about, since I figured everyone knew Korea was a future area thanks to Shenmue Online. But I'm baffled because I don't see Korea in this map Yu showed at GDC. :?:

P.S. I'm too lazy to go find my What's Shenmue disc right now, but I will look for it shortly and prove that Jongno-gu part. I doubt anyone disbelieves me but still.

Re: Ren, killed by Ryo's hands?

And well. Look at the picture of episode 10. This place reminds me the forbidden city.

Let's talk about the map. I see arrows placing the chapters. Some of them seems to be in Xian and Hebei. In my opinion, Hebei has to be very important in future episodes of the saga. The Bajiquan was born in Hebei.

You know what? You might be right. I tried my make out the characters for the chapter 10 image but just couldn't. But I think it's Hebei too. It does look very much like the Forbidden City in the artwork also.

Re: Ren, killed by Ryo's hands?

Its an interenting theory, makes some sense.
We can also see Shenhua (with Landi and NiaoSun?) around Shaolin temple, althouh we already knew that something like that would happen by the project berkley trailer...

Yep, the Shaolin Temple in Luoyang. That's definitely taking place in Luoyang in Project Berkley.

Btw, I want to correct you, I think what you are seeing its Guilin 桂林, theres no Macau in the map... actually its too bad, would be an very interesting place to visit because of its history, i guess :p

The Guangzhou place Im almost sure its Kowloon, make sense but dont know, Its impossible to read the characters because they are covered by pictures...

I know where Guilin is. But you're right, there is no Macau on here. That's gotta be Guangzhou. The second concept in the sequence surely includes Hong Kong and Kowloon together. On the map, that third image with the train is exactly where Guangzhou is located. Maybe that's where the Miao Guang Temple will be? :D I've done some translations to the map and tried to find out where some of these other areas are. There's definitely no Korea on here though, so I don't know what to think about that. Busan and Seoul in Korea were Shenmue Online locations, confirmed. Macau also. And since Shenmue Online was borrowing locations from the actual game, what does this mean? Very interesting!

http://s21.postimg.org/lahl363gn/translated.jpg

can we also get a link going to Ren on the Horse? I am fairly certain I have seen it but I can't find it at the moment.

By the way, I appreciate everyone's warm welcome. I intend on sticking around this time.

White Tiger (Baihu Theme Remix)

Soooo, I've been working on this baby for a while on and off. I finally picked up on the project over the last few days and added the final touches. I can be a hell of a perfectionist, so I just needed to tell myself, "Just stop messing with it and release it as it is." I've worked on several Shenmue remixes in the past that my inner perfectionist never allowed to be finished. I plan to change that though and release more in the future, because Shenmue music deserves some professional sounding remixes.

Feedback, please!

My new Shenmue remix is complete. Originally, I was working on Naoyuki's Bike, but then I started on Dawn, which I've titled Rising Sun.

Re: Rising Sun (Dawn Remix)

Thanks man, ill be sure to include it. This track really captures the magic of Shenmue. Very impressive. Its amazing how music can express and evoke so much emotion.

Dammit, im getting all Nostalgic for Shenmue Now ^_^

That's what I was going for! And I feel you. Shenmue's music is just pure magic and that's all there is to it. It's mainly what got me interested in making music in the first place.

This right here is bitching. The entire atmosphere is just outstanding. I also believe that you outdid your White Tiger mix as well, which probably was not easy to follow up on. Great job.

Ha! We released our new mixes at the same time. Got to love it. This one is beyond epic though. Keep 'em coming!

I pledged the maximum $10,000, and will be having dinner with Yu Suzuki in Japan next September. I am beyond excited. I was watching E3 at the Opry Mills theater here in Nashville. As soon as it was announced, I ran out of the theater, hopped on my phone and pledged it immediately. Very reckless in all honesty as I'm not rich, but I just don't care. 8) I wonder who the other two are that'll have the dinner with me.

Wow, there are some rather nifty tools available now that make Shenmue modding a breeze. Making a full English Shenmue II on Dreamcast was always something I wanted to do, but it was technically impossible to achieve on 700 MB media. But now that downsampling the audio is a possibility, it obviously is. However, it might be possible to get away without downsampling it so heavily. 8,000Hz is pretty bad. I see the French, German, and Spanish files have been removed in this release, but there are far many more unused, useless files on these discs that could be axed. Maps, audio, etc. Hell, there are even duplicates of entire area folders that serve absolutely no purpose. I don't think they even tried to clean things up. So, given my knowledge of what all isn't needed, I could more than likely do this while retaining more of the sound quality. All I need to know is what was used to downsample the AHX files, which I'm going to look around and find out how to do.

Re: Shenmue. A love letter (Remix album)

By the way, do we have confirmation from LanDC that these tracks are not being used with permission? It's possible some sort of agreement was made for their use.

I don't want to make accusations.

Hell no I didn't give him permission.

If I didn't think trying to profit off Sega's properties was the dumbest idea ever, I'd be selling these myself. I notice he's doing the same thing for Kingdom Hearts. This guy needs to be put in his place.

I really enjoy your renditions, and the sheer amount of thought and talent you put into all your tracks. All of them are stunning and i always find myself listening to at least one of your tracks once a week...

Thanks for all the effort and contributions you've made over the years too, for me you were key to reminding me just how special and unlike anything else shenmue really was by putting it on the forefront of our minds. And it was always great to hear new shenmue content crafted with such skill that made listening to these classic tunes invigorating and fresh again... :-)

Thank you! I did put a load of effort into this, and I'm grateful to see someone acknowledge that. I posted this on Shenmue 500K and barely got a look. But someone can post a random photo about sailors and get 300 likes... It's crazy.

Comments like these give me motivation to want to make more tracks like this, and I do believe I will! I'm actually working on several right now. I tend to fluctuate between projects because I can get burnt out easily. But my greatest enemy is work. I've gotta do a lot of that to recoup that nearly 13 grand I put into the Kickstarter. #-o Don't regret it, don't regret it! 8-[

Re: E3 2016 & Shenmue 3

You people do realize that Cedric is instructed to not spoil anything, right? Adam Boyes even stated last year, he almost had a heart attack when Yu Suzuki tweeted a photo of a forklift. Shenmue III will be on Sony's stage if it's there, and that means they have to play by Sony's rules. If you would have asked Cedric or Yu Suzuki the day before E3 last year, "Hey, are there any plans for a Shenmue III reveal at E3?" then guess what, your answer would have been a big fat no.

Furthermore, is it that goddamn difficult to expect something new to be shown? They managed to throw together a half-assed scene last year, before the first cent was given towards development. Hell, before there was even a team assembled. It's been over three months since the teaser at Magic Monaco. You're telling me that despite a team working around the clock, they can't come up with SOMETHING to show? Absolutely not buying that bullshit. I'll go as far as to say Shenmue III WILL be at E3. It's not going to be a 2 minute cinematic trailer, showing off gameplay and all that jazz, but we will see more of the game. Bank on it.

Yeah there's several pieces of data regarding the bike on the discs. There's even some help information in the 1st_read.bin of What's Shenmue. Re: Kickstarter Update #60: Dinner in Japan Reward Report

A lot of people have been wanting to know what we saw on that laptop. I can safely say there were no story spoilers in there. The majority of the footage consisted of location shots. What blew us away was the quantity that was shown, however. I think most of us have had doubts as to how far they've actually gotten into development, after only seeing a few shots of Bailu Village after all this time. But when we saw Bailu Village, Baisha and Choubu, any doubts I had were put to bed. They looked very fleshed out and beautiful already (and note that the footage was 3 months old when we saw it). There were bits of cutscene material, and a QTE testing scene, but those were really early tests and not much to talk about.

As some of you may now, YsNet recently started hiring additional staff to work on "high-end cutscenes." They are working their asses off, no doubt in my mind. I'm not saying this WILL happen, but I wouldn't be surprised if we got the first official trailer by December at Playstation Experience. Hang on a little longer, it'll be worth the wait.

Re: Kickstarter Update #60: Dinner in Japan Reward Report

Hm. That's pretty interesting stuff; did Yu make a point of telling you the material was out of date or was it just something you noticed from a date/time caption on the footage?

Can we ask more detailed questions now that the cat is out of the bag about stuff you saw?

He made it a point of telling us. He wanted us to know that it looks "much better" now.

I'm reluctant to answer very many questions. I'm not sure what I should and shouldn't talk about. I felt I could tell you what I just did though, because I gave nothing secret away. We all know those areas are in the game. They told us not to take photos or video, but didn't say we couldn't discuss the video.

I think it's still the old model. They looked like the same old models in the footage we saw too. I should also note that Shenmue I and II characters were walking around in Choubu. Obviously placeholders, so the models just haven't been the priority yet. I'm assuming they wanted to flesh out the environments and work on gameplay mechanics first.

Re: No Shenmue 3 Until E3 2017!!!

We're not going to have to wait till E3. Unless something drastically changes, the next Kickstarter update will include the footage Peter and I saw on the bus. After Yu showed us the footage, he said everyone would be seeing it (and more) "in December." He never specified PSX, but Peter and myself clearly thought that's what he meant. The last $10,000 dinner was already confirmed for San Francisco on the week of PSX, so it seemed like a no-brainer. But this goes to show that we should never expect anything until we have 100% official facts, no matter how logical what we're expecting may seem. Let's keep a cool head and wait a few more weeks! We'll see this month's update sooner than usual, I'd imagine. The team should be afforded a good holiday break, so they won't even be there to update on the very last day again.

Don't get too hyped. We don't want a repeat of PSX disappointment. I'm not going to say anything is for certain, because nothing is certain. But they do (or at least did in mid September) intend to publicly show new footage in December. According to Gio Corsi, they never planned to showcase it at PSX, and Yu wants backers to see it first.
