Re: Linux Users

I've just really started using Linux; I'm mainly using Fedora (although I have used Ubuntu), since Fedora's the closest (except for perhaps CentOS) to Red Hat.

Speaking of Red Hat, they very kindly (if slightly randomly) sent a cake to the office where I work today for a ten year anniversary.

Re: Random Thoughts! v2.0

It's mostly propaganda spread by news networks so the private insurance executives (and some doctors) can keep driving their Lamborghinis and live in their high class neighborhoods. It's all about money, really. Also some people don't want to pay taxes for anything like college loans, health care, and anything that helps others. They want to keep that extra income for their next trip to Costa Rica or something.

That being said, there's a pro and a con for everything. I for one don't mind paying to help others. Sure, there are those who take advantage of the system but there are others that don't. But I don't think a system should be disbanded because of a few asshats.

Re: Random Thoughts! v2.0

Makes sense people wanting to make sure their taxes are spent properly since they work hard for that money. It seems more understandable people being concerned about their healthcare system as that is what looks after them should they get old and ill or just get a disease like cancer.

Then again we can just forget all that shit and get angry about Kojima making another Metal Gear game.

Re: Tea

man don't get me started on tea, Moroccan tea, white tea, green tea, rooibus tea, chamomille tea, mint tea, chai tea, black tea, oriental green tea (I love this stuff it has a sweet taste that resembles caramel) and any kind of mixed tea you can find, yeah I'm pretty british when it comes to tea, I started drinking it to improve my lifestyle as it's great for preventing cardio vascular diseases and cancer and also has great benefits for the skin and got hooked, since then I love to take time in my day to just sit down, put on some relaxing music and drink a variety of tea it's very relaxing

also I heard you wanted to lose some weight, green and white tea are good for this, the anti oxidants work so that the fat burns quicker, if you have a cup before doing your cardio then it should accelerate weight loss and attack mainly those bad fats caused by the unhealthier food, roobius tea has the same effect except to a lesser extent but on the plus side it doesn't contain cafeine

I gotta admit I like this guy.

Kluwe, who made national airwaves last week when he wrote a passionate letter in defense of gay marriage, is both an NFL punter for the Minnesota Vikings and a rabid RPG fan who thinks Lost Odyssey is severely underrated and Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen is one of the best games ever made.

Nintendo just confirmed you can plug in any external HDD. They said up to 3 TB. Well I think that settles that.

Not to mention you can use up to 32GB SD cards so if ya want 64GB of on board storage and 3TB HDD. I like that

Walked up and down 20th Century Fox Studios on break. It's pretty amazing how i'm right next to it almost everyday. I also passed by CAA (one of the biggest talent agencies in LA where one of my contacts is).

I wanted to stand in front of them, shake my fist in the air and shout "One day! ONE DAAAAAAY !!" at the risk of making myself look like a jackass in front of the tour bus.

Monolith Soft is developing a game for Wii U, as well. Their title was not revealed during Nintendo Direct, but Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said Tetsuya Takahashi and the Xenoblade team are creating the game. This will be a new title not tied to an existing series.

Re: Wii U

 They did yesterday. But yes this has been the worst console announcement ever IMO.

Last years E3 reeked of desperation due to them having no games to announce [20 minutes of Zelda music, a crap load of stats that put Sony to shame and a piss poor announcement, Many thought they were simply releasing the tablet rather than a console] and this years was just as bad with them unable to give any actual details on the console and ending it with a dumb fire work show.

Remember when Microsoft was forced to announce the 360 because it leaked? or when the PS3 slim came out a month after it got announced, or when Sega f'ked up royal and announced the saturn when it came out.

I think people have bad memories. Now I'm not going to act like the nintendo conference was sliced bread but I don't think reeks of desperation is quite right (wonderbooks reeks of desperation)

Plus how can you be desperate with the 3ds? Have you noticed its the fastest selling console of all time? Its got a bunch of million sellers under its belt, quite a few of them first party. ]

Monolith was bought by Nintendo after the GC era, Baten Kaitos: Origins was one of the last games to be released and shortly after Nintendo bought them. So really Namco-Bandai was supporting them.
Maybe Bayonetta WILL be a system seller, Wonderful 101 doesn't play like an XBLA title it actually has a lot of meat to it. Just because of the art stye its not worth buying?
If Zombiu gets ported it won't be the same game, flat out.

and when it comes to reception well people are stupid. i'm really losing faith in consumers. in the past day I've actually heard a few more people talk about buying an Iphone 5 over a wiiu because the wiiu isn't a big enough upgrade.

At this point i don't care who it sells to or what it sells, it has a bunch of games I want, quite a few of them exclusive.

(PS the system will succeed because it is launching with a mario game, because mario games are guaranteed to sell over 1 mill it will likely outpace the vita within 6 months)

And its not being ignorant just because most of the Wiis software was shit. Yeah it has some gems but its mostly shit.

This is being ignorant seriously dude, really? Thee wii had stuff like platformers and sims, strategy games that weren't exclusively based on modern military and one of the better fighting games out there (Make fun of TvC but if you really had the choice you'd take it over MvC3 and SFxT) If you wanna talk about shovelware its not like Jimmy Johnson's anything with an engine didn't hit xbox 360, or Golden compass the game wasn't out on PS3. At this point does it matter? The system is on its way out, and a new system is coming.

Re: Gaming thoughts of the day

I'm thinking I might actually want to get the upcoming Kirby Collection for the Wii. I've never been into Kirby really (wasn't so much a Nintendo kid in the past), but the more I look up on the series, the more it strikes me as a kind of Klonoa-style platformer series, which is actually pretty appealing. Might want to get into that.

Re: Random Thoughts! v2.0

Finally got my main PC repaired with somewhat better parts than it had before it broke down and am riding a bit of a high at the moment. :D My framerate in games went from a barely playable 1-20fps on Low on the decade old machine I had been using while getting the funds together to 130-180 using the same settings, or around 60-70fps with all quality settings on ultra. Everything also loads significantly faster, no doubt as a result of having a 64 bit cpu and OS. I owe Yukio a lot for sending me an unused copy and key of Windows Vista 64 for free, not even asking for shipping. Kudos to you, friend!

Yes I am kind of going all out on this thing. I havent had a PC for a about 5 years, been missing PC gaming and I want a bad ass system god dammit. To make things worse I have to buy EVERYTHING thats needed like a mouse and keyboard and monitor which I dont have, so its not like I could just get away with building the tower and leaving it at that. I might end up buying a cheap mouse and keyboard and eventually upgrading to the items linked but I doubt it. I am super spoiling myself with this thing, yes thats a $300 graphics card, and a fucking beefy one at that. The whole shabang is gonna cost about $1500-$1600, only other thing i have to buy is windows. Pretty bad ass christmas present to myself, dont cha think?

The minority do and minorities are often loud and seem like they are the majority. Most black guys don't steal either. Most gays don't want to advertise it. Most short people don't have a chip on their shoulder. Most religious people don't act like protesting nut jobs. It's easy to make assumptions based on small but loud groups.

And light sabers discover the meaning of life.

In a world with technology taking over our lives it would have been refreshing to look at a simple object like a toaster again and find it admerable its trying to make itself relivant still amoung modern devices.
Instead we are supposed to feel simpathy for advanced technology and what? Feel sorry it sells so well and is overly a part of our lives?

Re: What Game/Games Are You Currently Playing?

My main issue with gaming right now is simply to much content is locked/held back for DLC and to add to that now you get all this store exclusive crap. We are expected to pay the same price for less content and at the same time we keep hearing publishers bitch about used sales when they are ripping off new buyers left right and centre.

Yes in some ways this gaming has gone stale but i do blame some of that on the length of this gen and the devs. Not many will try new IP's this late in but then most of the one that do get burned because gamers seem to stay away from new IPs now days bar a small few and just stick to the yearly releases.

I certainly agree on DLC. What a developer is telling a consumer when they announce paid DLC is that their disc is worth shit. Not gunna sugarcoat it I'm going to do DLC, but it'll be free so long as I can help it (Bastion's DLC is free on all platforms except 360 because MS forced them to charge)

Re: What Game/Games Are You Currently Playing?

No, no, no, no, youz have got it all wrong. The industry's biggest problem, that thing that it's missing is REAL FUCKING STEALTH GAMES. I still feel cheated about bein tricked into buyin Assassin's Creed coz it was billed as a stealth game (despite lovin it)

The only time I wanna feel invincible in a game is when I'm Batman, Duke Nukem, or Sonic after just poppin the relevant pod/TV. And quit it with the constant checkpoints, I want a sense of peril when playin games, not "oh well, I'll just reload from my checkpoint five seconds back", they're makin games too easy so there's relatively little challenge anymore (also one of the main reasons online gaming has taken over this gen)

I'm playin Deus Ex: HR right now on Give Me Deus Ex, and it's just too easy. I've won every trophy and award possible on FM 2012 for the last two seasons runnin. I only ever died on RDR by accidentally jumpin off a cliff or goin too far into water. They're just too much of a breeze.

I remember gettin frustrated as fuck on the final level on Sonic 1 for the MS, no rings, three lives, one hit and I'm dead, no saves. It was tense as fuck, and you'd have to keep it turned on overnight if you want another crack at it. That shit was challengin. Nowadays, the only ones that do pose any sort of challenge are either too unappealing or absolute shite. They need to take that same shit and inject it into games that people actually give a damn about.

Re: Where did Henry Go?

Just wanted to log in to say thanks for all the kind words, it really means a lot. I won't be coming back for the foreseeable future, but all the well wishes definitely encourage me to do so, in time. And it's okay that people know what happened, my apologies for disappearing like that.. I did realise I would be letting down some people on here, since I promised to do certain things for them (Dorian, Mittens, Ryudo, my apologies, I'll pay you guys back one day, bet on it). Also apologies to my fellow staff members (and Dojo forum members) for bailing out like I have, if I could turn back the clock, I would have contacted you guys and the Dojo with what was going on, I feel bad about it.

I also hope ThyDarkAngel is doing fine himself, he's going through with difficulties himself also. If you're reading this, take care of yourself and all the best. Same goes for any of you going through hard times right now. I wish all the best to all of the members on here [for example: Orange (hope you have the best damn wedding there ever is and ever will be) and Kenny (keep on living the dream)] in the future.

Don't want to make a big deal out of my absence, but seeing all of the posts in here, I felt I had to.

I vote Crimson Ryan or Kenny for mod!

I'll always be on PSN or my Hotmail if any of you guys fancy a chat. Sorry if this comes off as pretentious, I was just rather touched by all the nice messages.
You guys and gals are the best there is. See you around (and maybe again, in the future).
Be well.

Re: Random Thoughts! v2.0

After getting my old camera dolly and tripod back, i've been contemplating a short film to do for good practice. Finally came up with an idea.

Not sure how i'm gonna do it, its gonna be ambitious, but I decided to do a short based on a complete shut-in who finds out when he concentrates real hard, he can "open his mind" and be able to bend reality to his will. Do things like levitate objects. The kicker is whenever these things happen, he does a double take--and finds things back to normal in a snap. The character is going to say everytime he finds a startling new revelation "...or maybe i'm going crazy."

Eventually he's visited by a mysterious stranger, which'll be a creepy looking being, and tells him he's there to help. But the main character is convinced it's on to him and refuses to believe it's there to do good. In the end, "demon sounds" get louder and louder and the main guy laments that he opened a realm that's slowly consuming him...or maybe he's going crazy.

It's a classic "is he succumbing to schizophrenia or is it really happening" short. I think it'll be interesting to see if it can be pulled off with a very low to non-existent budget. I need to experiment with invisible string, the lighting, and how to move the camera the way I imagine it. There are also some pretty cool free demon sounds available.

The Longest Journey a model for Shenmue

http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/11/01/keep-the-faith-tornquist-talks-dreamfall-chapters/

Besides the shenmue series, one of my favorite video game francises is The Longest Journey (TLA) saga. This includes the original TLA and Dreamfall: The Longest Journey.

Much like Shenmue 2, Dreamfall ends on a very pivotal, uncertain moment in the story where gamers were left with more questions than answers. It's been 6 years since Dreamfall came out and Funcom, the original publisher, has been busy working on other projects with no clarity on Dreamfall's future.

Now the creator of TLA/Dreamfall, Ragnor Tornquist, has started his own company, acquired the license to create new TLA games, and will use a government grant (and a kickstarter campaign) to fund the sequel that fans have been clamoring for (much like the dojo community has been for Shenmue).

I don't know where Yu's head is at these days or whether there's any plan in place for Shenmue's future yet, but this feels like the most plausible way forward from where we are.

Re: What TV Series Are You Watching

Okay, Blue. I'm really only typing this to you. I just started Deep Space 9 for the first time in my life. Now, I've only watched the pilot, and the next episode, but I've seen enough to judge the first season.

Impressions:

1. I feel like I'm on a well-deserved vacation, after watching The Next Generation. I still love the Enterprise-D, I'd still rather serve under Captain Picard, etc., but the idea of a space station is actually rather nice and relaxing. That's not to say it's not dramatically exciting, but the whole Promenade, with the saloon, the doctor, the constable, the shops, etc. is really fantastic.

2. The architecture is really awesome. I have only just begun to really appreciate the late 80's, early 90's neo-deco design of the Enterprise-D. All the shapes and lighting are pure high 20th century futura. The Captain's ready room, the blue light strips on the ceiling, the checkered textures... It's all basically deco and nouveau. The exterior is even reminiscent of the Chrysler Building (Aztec pattern) mixed with an earlier art nouveau (organic) shape, and the colors inside are all art nouveau. You get the idea. Well, DS9 continues with this tradition in a most excellent way. Commander Sisko's office door is a masterpiece. The whole station is designed to look like a darker, more art deco, setting than the Enterprise-D, something the Enterprise-E would replicate later on. Anyhow, it captures that 90's nostalgia for high 20th century noirish cosmopolitanism that defined so many shows from that time, that only now, with some distance, we can look back and distinguish as a separate style, just as the original series was thoroughly 60's. It's so thick in the first season, I half expect to see red brick somewhere on the set, and then it will turn into an episode of Early Edition. You get what I mean, right? The new uniforms, the hair, warm colors, the sets, the Cardassian computers, sunset baseball on the holodeck, everybody's got a wise old man to look up to, and there's still good in the world. It's all quite well defined 1990's 20th century nostalgia, probably because the new century was fast approaching, all taking place approximately 35 seconds before the whole world turned into unshaven cynical thick-rimmed hipsters in Q heaven. Yes, I refer to the world Apple has made since 1999.

And I liked females better when they didn't all straighten or cut off their hair. Everyone looks... younger and... happier.

I have asked you privately to stop, and you declined so heres the deal; do it again, and your warned. Keep on doing it and your gone, pure n simple. My comment above was as scarcastic a response as you gave me, so dont re-edit a post a staff member has changed. Thats the way it is, if you dont like it then fuck off.
