Re: Favorite Anime Opening/Ending Songs

Dear lord, I hate that song so much that I laugh with glee every time I hear it.
Its title is wrong on the video though. The actual second opening theme was this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZSVSDQa0qk

...which I do actually like despite it's obvious 80s cheesiness. The opening guitar melody is awesome (starts at about :20). Even though it was only used for the very last season of the first series, that melody partly defines HNK for me. Just fits it so well. I'd love to hear it covered in some way with the ultra-heavy metal style of the Hokuto Musou games.

Re: Fist of the North Star series

Holy shit.
Just saw some footage of Ken's Rage 2, and goddamn does it look improved. I didn't have much of a problem with how the characters moved in the first game myself, but it's still awesome to see how everything has been sped up, with new moves and animations all over the place.
Having finished the first game pretty recently, the improvements are incredibly obvious just from the first few seconds of seeing it. The environments thus far still look a little empty, but hopefully they'll at least match their counterparts from the anime a little better this time.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_OSsEfFatMY

And even cooler is seeing the new trailer, which shows off a bit of the sort of "re-interpreted" parts from the first series, along with footage from the bits covering the second series as well. Adult Bat looks like he'll be incredibly fun to play as.
Can't wait to see more of Ein and Shachi too.
And goddammit, I want to see some boss battles now. Hopefully it'll have an actual lock-on button this time

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YVbuQY-aFmU

This one has me pretty excited. People will no doubt still have their complaints about it, but both as an adaptation of the anime and as a flat-out beat-em-up, this looks like it'll wipe the floor with the first game.
Already bought.

EDIT: I may have to wait on making a video for the first game like I had been planning, and do it on this instead. I was intending it to cover both the game and the anime, so this looks like it'll be a bit more apt.

Favorite Anime Opening/Ending Songs

What's your favorite Anime ending and opening songs?

I love the first opening to Hunter X Hunter (fav. anime ever!), makes me feel right at home :)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1IAOZn2YwiQ

I love how they mixed it into the show on harmonica. I actually bought a harmonica just so I could learn to play this song :P

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PyBL4ak4GhQ

Second Opening is great too :)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VAflk4baHWE

I also really like the opening and most of the music in general from SDF: Macross

Some of the swag included in the Emblem edition of the new PS3 special edition. I'm not one for merchandise unless I could make proper use of it, but I'd love one of those controllers and USB sticks..

Re: Why does Shenmue remind me of the holidays?

Ha, yeah I feel CJ on this. It's funny how this old game can invoke different feelings and emotions within us. I often think of Shenmue whenever I travel abroad or even see a plane in the sky. It's partly thanks to those wonderful moments in S2 when the game luxuriously takes the time to pause everything and interrupt your rushing about, just to show a scene of Ryo gazing up at a passing plane. Those scenes combined with the overall strong "gaming tourism" vibe of the series, definitely left an impact on my much younger self who at the time had yet to travel abroad or step foot on plane. I guess I kind of felt Ryo was just like me looking up at those planes and wondering where they could be going, or what it must be like to be on one.

So in a way Shenmue is synonymous with all holidays abroad for me, but I definitely feel you about the Christmas vibe too.

Re: Japanese Live-Action Movie Recommendation Thread

I just watched a japanese movie called Outrage on netflix. It's about yakuza, so if you like the games and genre in general then I highly recommend this movie.
Yay Beat Takeshi! He also did a sequel, Outrage Beyond, if you're interested.

I recommend Brother. Another Beat Takeshi movie from like 2000. It features a half American half Japanese cast and has some pretty funny moments of the Japanese gangsters mingling with the Western ones. Its worth it if only for Omar Epps' hilarious crying scene at the end. Oh yeah and Ashley from the Fresh Prince is in it.

I would of joined in on the rant until I read this on Yakuza Fan..

My email to sega
I sent an email to sega asking for any news for Y5 and while I didn’t get any they sent me an amusing haiku, here’s their response:

Eugene, May 20 08:53 (PDT):

Hello Loyal Fan,

I cannot comment.
Stay tuned to the Sega site.
Good information.

An original haiku by the Sega staff

Maybe we should stay tuned, I’m feeling hopeful!

Hopefully Sega will show us something at E3 this year. With Sony’s press conference it would be a great place to say “We’re not forgetting about the PS3 just yet.

I'll just postpone my rant until later in the year. I'm waiting, Sega..

Re: Yakuza series

The latest Famitsu is out and with it came a lot of details on the latest in the series, Yakuza: Ishin!

http://s15.postimg.org/uli6ibyrf/tumblr_mrwozgc_AMO1rsl35ao2_1280.jpg

"It’s not that the era itself was attractive to us so much as the people involved with it trigger stories in our minds," commented Ishin producer and writer Masayoshi Yokoyama. "I wanted to build a story this time around Sakamoto Ryoma, who’s this really attention-grabbing character in history, but really there’s such a vast amount of people involved with this era. You have hardline traditional samurai, you have people trying to create a whole new era for themselves, and you have others turning their eyes toward other countries. Trying to build a coherent story that brought all of these people together is a real challenge."

"To be honest, this was a lot more response than I thought we would get," Yokoyama said. "I figured we would see a spike on the first day and then it’d taper off later, but the number of votes just kept on rising. The way that the top-ranked characters kept changing positions probably contributed as well. A lot of the most popular characters from the election will appear in Ishin, so it’ll be nice to see people try to guess which characters will play which historical roles in the story. We’ll be providing answers to some of those guesses shortly.”

"We won’t have all of them," Nagoshi added, "but there will be a lot of characters making appearances, including the ones that ranked the highest. It’ll be kind of a festival atmosphere for fans of the series, and it’s something I felt was important to do because it makes us feel more connected to gamers and the project we’re working on."

"We may have deployed everything we could with Yakuza 5," Nagoshi said, "but that doesn’t mean we’re on cruise control with the quality and volume of this title. We are challenging ourselves with new things here, from the graphical presentation to the way we’re bringing back the full cast. It’ll be a huge step forward."

KHHSubs! also stepped in providing a translation of the game's official prologue from the newly opened official website.

[1] Ryouma, Returning to Tosa

The great ocean spreads out before his eyes…

Whilst returning to Tosa after finishing his fencing training in Edo,

Sakamoto Ryouma stood alone at the bow of the ship, deep in thought.

On his quest to try to change the times - A time in which there is talk of “expelling the forgeigners” and “adherence to the Shogunate” - he wondered “What should I do?”

Yet he could not find the answer…

The largest domain of Shikoku - Tosa.

This old-fashioned land, in which exists a barrier known as “rank”, continued to make life miserable for

"Goushi" such as Ryouma, who live as low ranking samurai.

This is a world in which the absurd reasoning of “rank being more important than a person’s life” goes unchallenged.

As soon as he returns home, Ryouma sees the still unchanged state of Tosa and turns on the higher ranking samurai, ending up with him being sent to prison…

"Can live my whole life like this…?"

When he psyches himself up with this thought, a man appears before him.

It was Yamada Touyou, who is said to be the most strict in discipline in Tosa….

He was Ryouma’s beloved, teacher.

While he holds an important office within the domain, at the same time, in absolute secrecy, he looks after those who have fallen victim to the domain and have lost their families.

During this reunion with Touyou, he is instructed to meet with Takechi Hanpeita - another who is in the same situation as himself

"The time has come"

Touyou explains their true objective.

The plan is for a great coup d’état, to collapse the severe hierarchical society in which they live…

————————————————————

[2] The night of the coup d’état

The Tosa Loyalist Party. A great force formed by young low ranking samurai advocating loyalty to the Emperor and the expulsion of foreigners and who are concerned about the current times.

The man standing a the top is Takechi Hanpeita.

He lost his family when he was young due to the way things work in Tosa.

The young man raised by Yoshida Touyou, gifted with intellect and courage, became just the man the young people of Tosa have been longing for.

He is the man behind the formation of the party.

That was the public guise of the Tosa Loyalist Party…

The Loyalist Party Headquarters is full of energy and resounds with the sound of training pistols.

Takechi rejoices over his reunion with Ryouma and declares he shall be welcomed as a head of the Loyalist Party.

Takechi, under Yoshida Touyou together with Ryouma - whose ability Takechi has more confidence in than anyone else, awaited the trip back home.

However, Ryouma seems gloomy. He felt a sense of guilt for not having high aspirations like Takechi.

But that wasn’t the only reason he feels guilty.

Takechi still has a large burn mark on his back…

He got that burn when saving Ryouma from his burning house when he was young.

Every time Ryouma looks at the wound, he is reminded of his past and loses confidence in himself.

Takechi has a serious talk with the hesitant Ryouma about the future of Tosa.

He explains that they must fight so that there can never be people like themselves ever again.

Trusting in the words of Touyou and Takechi, he agrees to participate in the plan to bring down Tosa…

————————————————————

[3] The Man called “Saitou Hajime”

It is one year after the coup d’état of Tosa…

In a room of the Terada Inn in Fushimi, Kyoto, lies a lazy man who, even though it is already noon, has yet to arise.

He is the samurai, Saitou Hajime.

On that day, after he is forced out of bed by the mistress of Terada Inn, “O-tose”, and a servant named “O-ryou”, he goes out to gamble…

Several winnings later, a man approaches Saitou. He whispers into his ear:

"Are you pretending to be here to gamble again today, while you’re actually looking for the culprit?"

There is a complete change of expression on the face of Saitou.

When he shot around to look at the man, he mumbled:

"Where is the man who killed the father… the man who uses that sword…"

Saitou Hajime’s true name is “Sakamoto Ryouma”.

A man who changed his name and is living in Kyoto. The man he is after is a mysterious swordsman who one year ago, on the night of the coup d’état that occurred in Tosa, murdered his father and old teacher right before his eyes.

Sakakmoto Ryouma loved Tosa, was betrayed by Tosa and then abandoned Tosa. He is now in a fight for revenge and is prepared to put his life on the line.

It is said that the greatest swordsmen gather in Kyoto. It’s an extremely dangerous place to plunge yourself into…

A place where the group of killers called the “Shinsengumi” make the streets rain with blood.

He abandoned the name of Sakamoto Ryouma and has tried to begin a new life living as Saitou Hajime.

Red Baron

Hey guys, it's been a while since I've come around. Been incredibly busy building a new game. (Well, a new entry in a series that goes back to 1990 !) It's been months of hard work getting this prototype done! Today we just launched our Kickstarter campaign for it.

Please take a look and spread the word! (I'm in the video too. )

I also designed this website for it: http://www.redbarongame.com

Re: SINGLE PLAYER GAMER (updated March 31)

New vid. Not my best at all , but it was a bit thrown together anyway. Aside from recording footage, I wrote and edited it mainly within the past week. That's pretty fast for me.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=viYMafzgUs8

The opening couple minutes is probably really boring, and my delivery is stiff as hell (doesn't help that I had a sore throat), but hey, I've been out of it for a while. The main thing to look at is the fact that the game footage is higher quality than I've ever been able to get before. That's mostly why I even made this one to begin with. Testing it out. My earlier works all ended up a bit blurry, but this one is much closer to being pixel-perfect (provided that you bump up the quality). The footage of the PS1 GITS game looks best of all, because I was actually able to record it in 720p from my PS3.
Oh jaggies, how I love thee.
I just wish I still had my fat PS3, so I could do the same with the PS2 footage. PS3 and 360 games will look waaay better now.
Bump it into 1080, and the video should even look pretty good in full screen, which I couldn't say about any of my earlier ones.

Oh, and the first couple minutes would have sounded better, but the song I originally had planned apparently gets flagged for copyright violations in some regions, and I wanted to avoid that. Sucks, because I was so proud of how well it went.

Even used, this is pretty expensive online, but I found it locally for the reasonable-as-hell price of 10 bucks. Always wanted to read this. Seemed like a similar vibe to Akira, telekinetic powers and all that, but on a much, much smaller scale (an apartment complex rather than the whole of Tokyo).

Re: Hard Genesis Games!

Target Earth, awesome game that I was never able to beat without the cheat.

You sexy bastard.
Yeah, Target Earth is a beast. Excellent though. Prequel/predecessor to Cybernator on the SNES (if that means anything to you Thief), but waaay more difficult.

Rocket Knight Adventures starts out pretty moderate in difficulty, but ramps up a short way in. It's one of those where you really shouldn't be fooled by its cartoony aesthetic; this ain't no walk in the park.

One of my absolute favorite games on the system (and I say this having little-to-no nostalgic attachment to it, since I only latched on to it a short few years ago) is Ranger X. Such an incredibly high-quality game in all ways.
I personally don't find it all that difficult, but I've also beaten it on the hardest difficulty setting three or four times now, so it might just be that I know all the ins and outs. But in most coverage I've read about it, people seem to find it especially challenging. I imagine the difficulty for them stems from that fact that the controls are very avant-garde, so there's a bit of a learning curve. There are separate buttons for shooting either left or right, so it's a bit of an odd ball as 16-bit shooters go. But once you're used to it, I don't actually think it's all that hard. But that might just be me.
Even if it ain't hard, you should still play it for the amazing graphics, unique gameplay, and inventive-as-hell levels (there's an entirely vertical level where you scale a building, and even a pretty focused "stealth" mission).
Been wanting to make my own video on it, but it's hard to find any usable information about it since it's so obscure.

Just snagged this on ebay. Been wanting to find it for ages.

Soundtrack to the arcade version of Burning Force, and in absolutely excellent condition no less. "Used," but so completely intact it may as well be new.
A cool 20 bucks. Last copy I saw was somewhere around 50, and the condition was nowhere near as nice.
So yeah, pretty excited to get this.

And to completely contradict what I just said, I've just ordered two things from eBay..

http://s27.postimg.org/q51aogiyb/image.jpg

Limited edition bullet-shaped USB thumb drive branded with Yakuza: Dead Souls. It's only 1GB in size but it'll come in handy for something. A good quality metal enclosure and the novelty of it being a bullet is cool enough.

Limited edition sauna beach towel with all the clan emblems and "Ryu Ga Gotoku" insignia from Yakuza 5. I won't use it as a towel, instead I had an idea of using as decoration for my room. I think it'll fit nicely..

Next up would be one of those RGG: Ishin hard drive plates for PS4. :eekyum:

And the best part : Shenmue 1999 Calendar only sold during TGS 99 and a set of goods only available during TGS 99 aswell (i've actually tried to find pictures of that calendar before on google, but nothing came out... too bad cause its just beautiful !)

Shenmue 1999 Calendar :

Its made of glossy paper (?) and very good quality, Render as you can see might not be the best, but right before your eyes, its just wonderful.

List :

- Bag
- Cards
- Both artbooks (well, one seems more like a pamphlet, the blue one) since it has like no pages... You open it and that's it. However, the other one is heavy and is really like a artbook, awesome stuff
- Shenhua figure
- Strap
- TGS Entry ticket
- TGS Goods selling list (just check the prices guys, thats fucking crazy), the black pen was on sell for 200 yen, rofl... just like 2 euros ? Now its just freaking expensive. Let's not talk about the other one which is the rarest one and was on sell for 2000 yen.

Mugs for 800 yen, posters for 1500 yen... thats just crazy. But i have to say it, the rarest Shenmue item seems to be the original painting for Shenhua, signed, which went for 50 000 yen in 1999. Yet to be seen again, i cant even imagine its price nowadays.
- Shenmue Tshirt
- What's Shenmue
- Main Theme CD
- Mini Notepad Shenmue
- Tattoos

Guess i do have now a nice TGS 1999 set, but i will have to complete it by finding 3 mouse pads (have Ryo's one), 3 posters (have Niao Sun's one) and 2 phone cards (have Ren and Shenhua's one).

Still a long way to go, since there's still the Shenmue watch and some other stuff like all mugs etc. But i will try to complete it within the next 5 years if i can.

So yeah, pretty much, my goal is to get what's left as soon as possible.

If you are selling stuff (you can be a fan but still want to sell something you know :D) or have doubles, let me know ! Thanks !

Re: Yakuza series

Please be good news. I sincerely hope that Sony fucking deliver. If Microsoft are truly bringing back the likes of Phantom Dust then Sony need to step their game up and give these niche games a fighting chance, since they're really boring me lately.

The Yakuza beach towel I bought from eBay. Works quite well as the decoration matches the style of my room.

Embarrassingly, I can only recognise two of the emblems..

Re: Recent Gaming Purchases

Today's purchases :

http://s21.postimg.org/sh40x1lzb/DSC_0330.jpg

Finally got my hands on those mugs 3/4, missing Niao Sun.

Official OST (no bootleg) complete with cell. And i am done with straps.

Still looking for the last 3 posters i need (quite amusing thinking i have the niao sun one while i am missing her mug lol).

But i am already on a deal for the last 3 posters, but might cost an arm...

If anyone know where i can find the niao sun mug or someone selling it, hit me up !

Re: Recent Gaming Purchases

So Thief (in direct defiance to the implications of his own name, apparently) decided to be supercool and sent some of his Front Mission posters my way. I just swiped these images on the net so I didn't have to take my own (and the last one is just the base image used for the poster, not the poster itself), but all the posters look great. As a nut for both Front Mission and authentic Japanese store posters, this stuff made my week.

Coolest thing is that each poster is for a different version of the game. First image is the DS version, second is the PS1 version, and I believe the last one was for the SFC version (I think so, at least).

Also, years ago someone on here (for the life of me I can't remember who, it was so long ago) pointed me in the direction of a site called bidJDM where you can buy stuff from Japanese auction sites. So I hopped on there recently and finally decided to try it out. Got myself an original poster for the game Soumatou (which was localized as Deception III: Dark Delusion in the west).

I just won it this morning though, so I'm still waiting for all the confirmation and whatnot from the site. Having not used it yet, I'm not sure exactly how things go, or how long it all takes.

Oh, and I also preordered Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. The Namco blurbs for it are making it sound like the physical release will be really limited (it's only on Amazon and ClubNamco, and supposedly won't be in stores), with the primary release being on PSN. So I figured I ought to get it while I can.

Re: Latest Purchases

The DK31 charging dock for my Xperia Z1 Compact. I previously bought the magnetic charge cable separately, but I've found it too flimsy in cases I need to use the phone whilst connected. This dock makes that aspect slightly less functional but much better aesthetically overall. A trade off I think I'll manage somehow ;-)
