Re: Outdated daily things we take for granted

1. Circumcision is good. It lowers the risk of contracting sexually transmitted disease and cancer. It developed among civilizations with ancient memory, for the purpose of cleanliness, like traditions of clean and unclean foods saved people from disease, even if they did not know why.
There's just a few studies that didn't find anything really conclusive. In science this usually means that there's no real proof and most likely due to measuring errors (or biased researchers). The case of circumcision is one of those where some found a subtle advantage while others even found a slight disadvantage when it comes to diseases. Pretty typical of cases where there is no effect at all. And about cancer : as researchers said, just shower regularly and it's a non-issue.

As far as I know, the number of people in the EU getting these diseases aren't alarming when compared to the US. Actually, considering that many die worldwide during these rituals it's not clear to me if a claimed slight advantage would weigh up against these numbers.

Saying that ancient tribes did things without knowing why is not really a plus in my eyes. They sacrificed people, they elongated heads, necks, shortened feet. None of which had any real benefit.
Circumcision is also prevalent in Anglosaxon countries in the West. Largely because of the influence of the Victorian era and its morals.

PS Why did god create it and ask to remove it? I guess being forgetful and asking mortals to correct the mistake afterwards is not it? Showing courage just seems an odd choice since suicide can take more courage but isn't allowed. The custom differs from country to country, era to era though. Which (to me) sounds more local and man made than divine.

Honest question : to each their own of course. I mean, people modify their bodies for several reasons. But if this is partly related to sexuality, why bother circumcising a child? Instead of letting adults choose later if they want to go through with this procedure?

How to win a Private Dinner where Yu Suzuki is Present!

Planned a trip to MAGS. On their website I saw the following news:

http://www.mags-monaco.com/index/news/idNews/31/title/Grand+concours+ouvert+%C3%A0+tous+%21+Des+Prix+fabuleux+%C3%A0+la+cl%C3%A9+%21

translate.google.com :
Greater competition open to all! Awards fabulous key!
return
Shibuya International will close the festivities associated with its 10th anniversary in grand finale at the Monaco Anime Game Show.

On this occasion, an exceptional competition is organized to Tuesday, February 19 at 20h

To participate, you must

1) "liker" Facebook page (FB) of the event if it is not already ^ ^: https://www.facebook.com/mags.monaco

2) Bring as many people on the same page they have FB "liker" also

3) They must post the name or nickname of their sponsor on the comments section of the YouTube page available on the following link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHT2LPHhrOs

Note: The same name or alias must be present on the FB page MAGS

A draw will then be made among the sponsors who have brought a minimum of 30 people on the FB page MAGS

Complicated? Maybe ... but it's worth the effort because our single winner will receive:

• 2 Tickets to the private dinner Shibuya International 10th anniversary in a luxury hotel Monaco in the presence of Go Nagai, Michel Ocelot, Yu Suzuki, Yoshitaka Amano and Akino Arai on March 2
• 2 VIP Place for Anime Game Show Monaco including lots of our partners
• The signing of four guests of honor

Shibuya International reserves the right to refuse anyone who does not agree it seems (by behavior) with the image and values of society.

This informal competition can be stopped at any time in case of irregularities.

Is it possible for us (Shenmue Scene) to get Shendream/David from Shenmue Master to this dinner, by participating this competition?

I'm sure this is possible as a community! Let's hear our voices!

It's not triple-A, so everyone hated it. But if you like slashing people with samurai swords, it's not bad.
Not a great game by any means, but it's not the abomination they make it out to be. Should be cheap nowadays anyway; anywhere under ten bucks is probably really fair.

Anyone else hate the use of the word core game?

Seems to just come down to, I like this game so its core and i don't like that game so its not. Pretty clear most people on the net who use the word have no real idea what it means and its not something you ever hear a gamer actually say when talking about games.

More news posters?

We have the monthly tweetathon. Facebook polls. Interviews. Dinners with Yu. Yet none of this is reaching the main site. Anyway we can up the activity of the news posted on the front page? Maybe people like Wude is active daily and a trusted mod and always involved in Shenmue Projects. Just seems updating the main page has really been slacking. Re: [Article]Why Shenmue 3 must never be made

 Here we go again. Despite the fact that the author of this article clearly believes himself to be a contrarian, he's not, in fact this view seems to be the mainstream one in many corners of the internet. I've personally had the experience of being bashed over the head with "but it will never live up to expectations/Sega will never provide a big enough budget/ those days of gaming are OVER/ get over it and move on" replies on certain forums while trying to drum up support for the tweethon.

I'm afraid I have little patience for cowardice on the level of "let's not try and get what we want in case it's not as good as we hoped." Seriously, screw that.

^this. And people always forget that for every dud franchise reboot (well, every truckload admittedly..), there's always a surprise gem that beats the odds, a game that shouldn't have been as good as it is, but is. Something like XCOM: Enemy Unknown. Who thought that was going to work out well prior to it's release?

Also the author does give the impression he's the type who'll be checking this forum later, probably hoping to see a bunch of angry fans "spunk creamy-hot vitriolic hate all over my face". Well, his face.

Re: Yu Suzuki At Monaco Anime Game Show On The 2nd/3rd Of Ma

At the moment I'm in Monaco, actually a place nearby.

I Was the 5th person to get my items signed.

Yu was extremely friendly. His eyes where twinkling when he saw my huge Shenmue box ;)
When I'm right, there was no "Yu talk" today. Only tomorrow (sunday) 1600 local time.

Unfortunatelly I have a crappy internetcommection. No uploads, sorry. Pictures later!

"Monaco Television asked me for an interview"

Lady: "So, you came especially from The Netherlands to see the Monaco Anime and Games Show"
Me: "No, for Yu Suzuki, and let him sign my stuff"
Lady: "Why is he so important"
Me: "Because he made Shenmue"

Hope it will be broadcasted soon, and maybe we get some new Shenmue lovers ;)

Re: Yu Suzuki At Monaco Anime Game Show

1 - If he did say that Shenmue HD is not even being worked on, then we have been duped again by countless dumb rumors and that guy at Sega is really a jerk for saying that it was coming.
Nobody at Sega said it was coming.

Actually, what someone at Sega said (and I am not sure if we are speaking about the same person), in response to a question about what other Dreamcast games would be coming, was "I can tell you what it will be, it will be Shenmue."
Watch the video again, as Ziming posted. The question is, "Should fans keep requesting HD remakes of their favorite Dreamcast games?" You quoted the answer correctly, but you mistook the question for, "Will there be any more remakes of Dreamcast games?" Harborne was simply anticipating the most requested games, not those that would be released.

You are correct. However, he does not need to mention Shenmue, but chooses to and then adds at the end that he is neither confirming or denying, but that they "may be working on it". This is the kind of thing that irritates people like myself in this community. I think we deserve to know what is going on here. A lot of people just assume it is about money, and that may be it, but it may not be. Just acknowledge us fans out here that want to know what the facts are as to why this just sits in limbo. They know how crazy everybody is about this franchise. Just give us the facts and stop with the "maybe in the future..." crap that is really getting old.

Re: Yu Suzuki At Monaco Anime Game Show

2nd part of my videos, the most interesting I believe:

http://youtu.be/8zbEmRLrhJE
Thank you for the videos. I'll summarize what Yu Suzuki said about Shenmue in Japanese as directly as possible. So, forgive me if some part would not sound natural for English.

*He named Virtua Fighter as the most memorable game of all his games, for he had to go through various hardships while making it. And, he added "Shenmue as well" at the end of the answer.

*He admitted that he regrets Shenmue III hasn't been made yet.

*He has no concrete plans for the next generation consoles, but he'd like to do something for them.

*About "the crowd-funding," he plainly said "there's such possibility," showing no particular interest.

*He wants to make Shenmue III for sure, if a good partner is found. He used the same phrase twice; "if circumstances allow." He's glad that French fans are still talking about Shenmue a lot.

Re: Yu Suzuki At Monaco Anime Game Show

Hi Shenmue fans !
Let me clarify this for you. After a travel of 1200km made just to meet Yu, I was in Monaco this weekend, where I met Richard ( rdk_nl ) from this board. He filmed me when I asked this question http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6p3PjvKA7m0 that was misinterpreted since...

The question was " If Mr. Suzuki ends up being unable to find the financial resources or the good circumstances to develop Shenmue 3, would it be possible to him to decide to finish the story as an Anime in 3D, or even cheaper : as a book ".

His answer was, if I can relate to the translator (really not sure about that) : " Maybe, it's a possibility... Even in that form, I would like to make some more Shenmue ".

2 things :

1. With the conference translation, I still don't know if Yu Suzuki means that "Even in that form...some more Shenmue" means : "If I wanted to do it, I would not make one episode, but a series of anime or books" or "If I chose to release Shenmue on those medias, I would still want to release more Shenmue as a videogame". Maybe one of you japanese speaking fans might translate Yu's answer there, it would be really nice ;-) .

2. I never said anything about a "manga", I spoke about a book (refering in french to the word "romancé" that relates to a novel, a written adaptation of the original script). I hope it's been well translated to Yu Suzuki. It's that french journalist who made the connection between an Anime and a manga book, not me.

Let's hope we'll have something concrete in the near future... Thank you !

Re: Yu Suzuki At Monaco Anime Game Show

the question I'd like to ask him (now it's late, I know) is simply one: we waited for so long and we're still here. We're many (not just the forum members, of course) and we can offer support. What can we do? I want to do something. Should I pester Sega/other producers? Begin an informal campaign to know who's ready to buy/fund the game? Go personally to Sega of Japan and chain myself to the gate? Start a hunger strike? dear Yu, just tell us what you need!

Re: Yu Suzuki At Monaco Anime Game Show

I think what was the main driver of the losses in the chart above is that they were a console manufacturer in the years with the big losses and started to turn it around after exiting the console business (which was bleeding money). I don't think you can say that Shenmue was the main reason for those losses. It may have have been a part, but not the main driver. I think we all understand that Shenmue came out on a console that was on its last legs, and that Shenmue II never had a chance. I think it is crazy to think that this game wouldn't sell at this point if it were made for PS4, Wii-U and/or the next XBox. They just can't make the same mistake and release it on the current gen which will probably disappear in the next few years.

This again? Shenmue and Shenmue II sold well, if you consider the total number of Dreamcast around at that time. The first Shenmue was one of the best selling titles on the console. Blame Sega policies, not the game

It was a pleasure too, pal !
Since your cam was filming everything but the screen, I obviously had to do it (I missed the video of the saturn dance game he's been involved in, but I believe I've got all the others)...

Here are those pictures at a higher resolution (3600x2700) : http://dl.dropbox.com/u/51587875/Yu%20Suzuki%20screens%20from%20Monaco.rar ;-)

...and I know it's already been said in here, but if Yu did insist on the dissolution of the Soviet union, it's because military forces had the best computers at that time, and he's been able to buy some cheaper elements from the USSR in 1991. Those high-end computers sold cheaper made the development of real 3d game possible...

Lucky you for having been there. Here's the direct translation of the Q&A in Japanese:

The translator: "Instead of a video game, will there be any chance that you depict the story of Shenmue 3 in other forms, like movie or novel?"

Yu Suzuki: "there will be such possibilities, I think. Even in such forms I want to do something related to Shenmue."

Thank you for the video. Now that I can hear the Q&A part clearly, I've fixed the inaudible part in my translation.

Can you please add time stamps to the duration of each Shenmue question.

Time stamp example: Shenmue question 1 (8:40-9:00)
Japanese Translator: blablablabla (translation)
Yu Suzuki: blablablabla (translation)

Time stamp example: Shenmue question 2 (18:22-19:55)
Japanese Translator: blablablabla (translation)
Yu Suzuki: blablablabla (translation)

I can edit those parts together into a single video. Once together I can add English subtitles to each question, from original interviewer to the translator, and lastly Yu Suzuki.
