Re: The Shenmue Dojo - past, present and future.

In the interests of being clear and open, Spaghetti has stepped down as a global moderator, and seemingly left the Dojo and community. If I had more information I would give it to you, but I got sent a short message on Friday and haven't received any response to the PMs I've sent. Either way, i wish him all the best with whatever he does.

Also, we are still aiming for the 20th July for the new site, but there is now a chance this could be delayed. There are certain aspects which are still being developed, and new ideas put on the table which will be discussed tomorrow. If we are ready for the 20th then it will be tight, but I will keep you all informed as the week goes on.

Re: Adam Koralik explains the re-releases (4:3, audio etc)

I'm pretty happy with the HD versions. The mere fact they exist finally is a miracle.

Re: Adam Koralik explains the re-releases (4:3, audio etc)

It's getting to the point now where people are actually making up problems about these remasters to be worried about. Give it a rest.

There is no emulation. It's a source code port, being created by a company who literally exist to convert this kind code as faithfully as possible. That's why SEGA aren't doing it themselves. You can throw as many nonsense technological sounding things about SH-4 processors and audio codecs as you like but that doesn't make your baseless accusations any more solid.

Re: Random Shenmue HD Thoughts

Good post!
I think this kind of stuff is acceptable in a fan hack, but in a commercially sold product I can see why they'd want to avoid it.

Re: Random Shenmue HD Thoughts

Sorry for cutting off the discussion, but I would like to say how happy I am with the rerelease of Shenmue I & II.

I'm Brazilian and here Shenmue was not very well known (despite the effort of Tectoy, the Sega representative here), so I met the series only in 2016, in a playthrough of an oldgamer youtuber, Velberan.

It was love at first sight. I had a Dreamcast for a short time, but I never got close to that amazing game. I had to play in emulators, so I found this forum.

As I played and followed the forum, I began to participate in attempts to persuade Sega to relaunch the first games before Shenmue 3 be released. These few 2 years of waiting have already been a torture. I can only imagine the waiting and hope of all here since 2000, until finally the rerelease has been confirmed.

I really want to get the physical here in Brazil, but Sega is not very present here, so I think I'll have to settle for the digital version of PS4 and Steam, because I'll buy both.

[Sorry for this poor english

Re: Update #85: Survey Info #2: $7M stretch goal reached!

How on earth will they fit all that data on the disc!? I'm excited that they're going to do it, but it seems impossible for a DVD! Maybe they'll put it on a Blu-ray disc.
The 100GB thing is a placeholder. There is no way the size is going to hit that number. This list of file sizes of recently released games should serve as a decent guideline.

Re: Update #85: Survey Info #2: $7M stretch goal reached!

I'm back only for this post.

... Or a QTE prompt.

Could be a counter indicator, à la the Arkham series.
It's neither.

Looks like a lock-on indicator. There's also a forklift in the background, and what look like newspapers on the floor.

The move Ryo is doing looks really similar to Akira's Houken at 1 minute 54 in this video: https://youtu.be/B9jm6lbJj54?t=113

There's also this in the bottom-left corner of Ryo's health:

A drink to recover health or to provide a boost to power or stamina, perhaps?

Re: Update #85: Survey Info #2: $7M stretch goal reached!

the individual kanjis mean - strike, open.
but according to jisho.org when combined it means
だかい - dakai - 'break in the deadlock'

so maybe this is an indication of a successful counter attack. ie. the opponent grappled Ryo and he successfully executed a strike reversal.
Great theory!
best to wait for the switch translation.
Haha, well you guys have already nailed the meaning of the characters. I did manage to discover a couple more links with Bajiquan which you may find interesting. The research took longer than I expected, there wasn't a lot of easily-available information on it.

Goodbye old friend....

Just a quick message to say goodbye to a place where myself, and others i'm sure, have called their internet "home" for all these years. Ever since stumbling across this place in 2004, it has became my most visited site, and its still surreal that its about to close. I just want to say thank you to Andy Bandos, who created the original Ryo's Place site which soon was renamed to the Shenmue Dojo. If it wasnt for his vision and determination, this place simply would not exist. I would also like to thank the previous owners HellRaiser/Ziming and Yama for all the work and time they have put into the site, moulding and shaping it into the Shenmue resource that it is today. Every action leads to a reaction, and all roads have led to where we are today. I also am so grateful to Yama for staying on as a trusted and proven administrator of the new site and forums. He isn't going anywhere, and as been instrumental in helping shape the new future of the Shenmue Dojo.

Finally i would like to thank everyone who has ever visited the site, and to those who have participated in these forums. There are so many names, but everyone played their part, and the simple fact is that you made these forums what they are. All the fond memories were made by you all, and i humbly thank you for that. It will be hard to let go of this place, but its something that just has to be done. The dark days of Shenmue are now over and if someone had of told us in 2010 that one day Shenmue I & II would be re-released, and Shenmue 3 would be in development, they would have been laughed out the door. But it's true, and its happening, so with that, we have to change too.

We have begun the process totake the site offline, and in the next hour or so, we will begin the switch over the new site. In regards to downtime, i cant give a definitive time-frame, but it wont be long at all. Its best to just keep checking the url below (get it bookmarked!), and our social media outlets.

Thank you everyone! This is it. I really hope you enjoy the new site and forums! We have made some great memories and friendships here, and it's now time to do it all over again. See you soon!
