Re: Phil Spencer - The Biggest Request is to Bring Back Shen

To me it sounds like he respects the series but is not willing to fund it. Obviously he'd like to house it if Sega did their part, as would Sony. We reach out to them for hope but at the end of the day it's Sega's problem not theirs. I'm still holding out that someone may do something of the sort, it'd be a big pull definitely, but can see why they wouldn't all the same.

Re: Phil Spencer - The Biggest Request is to Bring Back Shen

So you have money right? I assume enough money to live on? Well would you invest money into a business idea you have, one that is SO committed and enduring, despite having seen that same business model lose serious amounts of money twice before it?

When people here think about money and "yea give Yu the money", think about your own money, and regardless of how expendible it is to you, think about the fact of both past track record and your possibility of making a profit from a committed business venture.

Re: Phil Spencer - The Biggest Request is to Bring Back Shen

That's why I'm saying there needs to be a formula change. The demand is there. Not enough to turn a profit from the same ol shenmue formula but there's a way to make a game without it costing as much as the first two. I feel like half of the money came from the games being developed over such a long period. It changed a lot from the Saturn pics we've seen.

And if they get multiple ways to fund it the cost will be less for each party. That's why Sony or ms are critical. Without one of them sega won't do it.

Re: New "Hazuki Tiger" Jacket coming in 2014 (Insert Coin)

Ehh not too shure about those drawings looks a bit off to his real jacket i actually made a hazuki jacket and it is 100% accurate down to the pockets and the placement of the tiger n patches. the drawings just look off and it will most likely be wayyy over priced and not leather. my jacket is real cowhide leather and was 300$ just for the jacket. I will stay with my rendition :)

i wear this when i ride my motorcycle and yes i created a phoenix dragon mirror helmet too :)

Re: NeoGAF: New Japanese trademark from Sega (Shenmue)

Whenever developers/console companies say there's an impending reveal and they use the phrases "massive significance," "unexpected" or "something people will be really excited about" it never turns out to be anything I care about or would even classify as meriting any of those phrases. There are only a handful of games that I would call massively significant, unexpected or something people will be really excited about and feel I wasn't just trying to attract attention.

Those in no specific order would be:
Shenmue 3/remake (duh!)
Beyond Good and Evil 2
Another Earthbound game
Half Life 3
The Last Guardian

And that list is based only on what I've read for years online. Aside from Shenmue those other games don't mean anything to me, so I'm not saying that's my wish list.(I've played BGAE and the Team Ico games but I'm not eager to play their sequels) I just know people really want them thus making their release "massively significant." It's no surprise if another Uncharted, COD, Halo, Mario, DOA, FF, Sonic, Lego, Silent Hill or a racing version of any of the previously mentioned franchises is made.

Re: What movie are you watching right now?

I just happened to stumble over Collateral last week and kept watching it (for the first time). It's a great movie. Sure, it's not one of the best ever made (although that's highly subjective), but it's really a nice movie to watch. Would watch again.

Click the link to try bring back Shenmue on Xbox!

http://i.imgur.com/ZZzWHHU.png

CLICK THIS LINK...
https://twitter.com/intent/tweet?screen_name=XboxP3&text=Shenmue&hashtags=bringbackOGxboxgames%2CSaveShenmue
...AND THEN CLICK "TWEET". That's it! :)

Phil Spencer (a.k.a. @XboxP3, he is the President at Microsoft Game Studios) will get a notification about your Shenmue request!

UPDATE: http://xbox.uservoice.com/forums/251647-gaming-achievements/suggestions/6028512-bring-shenmue-3-to-xbox-one (ONE MORE WAY to support!)

F.A.Q.:

Q: Why this is happening?

A: Because Phil Spencer said that he is open to hear ideas about original Xbox games to bring back, as can been seen here: https://twitter.com/XboxP3/status/471467263271657473

Q: Didn't Phil said they're not going to make it?

A: Phil also said Gears of War ran its course and then bought the IP. Decisions like that are not monolithic in nature. And, with the right pressure, he may change his mind about Shenmue, too!

Q: I have my doubts? Is this going to work?

A: Nobody in this world is able to know. However, when you TRY, big things could happen! For example, think back what attention and positive signs we managed to achieve so far with SONY:
- http://kotaku.com/shenmue-fans-sure-are-crazy-1500240326
- http://kotaku.com/sonys-giant-list-of-video-games-1463345943

Support Shenmue, anyway and in any way, and spread the word! :D

Re: NeoGAF: New Japanese trademark from Sega (Shenmue)

I'm a loooong time lurker on this site (got Shenmue xmas 2000 and was one damn happy 5th grader for several months) and am just now making an account.

My two cents; I've read hopeful yet vague announcements over and over for almost 15 years now. For the last 10 years they've been consistently disappointing. Plus, as much as I hate to admit it, I've never met a person in real life who shared my enthusiasm, or any enthusiasm at all, for Shenmue. The closest I've had to a Shenmue convert was a lacrosse buddy in high school who liked to come to my house to play plinko in Hong Kong. As it turns out, a surprisingly small amount of people in real life would like to play a game of lucky hit.

I WISH Shenmue was super popular because I want Sega to have a valid financial reason to finish the story, and I want Ryu to get revenge against Lan Di and figure out what the hell was going on with that sword and are those mirrors magic or what??! However, I won't even allow myself to think Sega is planning an HD remake because these hopes have invariably led to disappointment. The series hasn't been a financial success for them. It's a hard sell. In fact, I remember grade school friends laughing at Shenmue when they saw me play it. "No space marines? No thanks." Teenaged kids are still a HUUUUGE factor in hard core video game sales, and unfortunately Call of Duty, Halo and the like have a lock on them.

I want to be wrong, but I'm not holding my breath. My guess is Sega is simply keeping their patent fresh in case they want to release another stupid mobile game or shenmue online 2 or whatever misguided BS their questionable market research department thinks can make them money.

Then again, I was motivated enough to make an account on this website specifically to weigh in, so maybe I'm more hopeful than I'm letting on.

Rock on, dudes and dudettes \m/

Re: NeoGAF: New Japanese trademark from Sega (Shenmue)

Always do your homework. ;-)

Over the years I have learned to take any news regarding a Shenmue release / Shenmue confirmation / you name it with a huge portion of skepticism. If Shenmue will be released, Sega will tell us when the time comes. What can we do? Wait until that day, not jump to conclusions and not get too hyped about anything which is not as certain as life and death itself.

Re: NeoGAF: New Japanese trademark from Sega (Shenmue)

As much as I'd like to think Sony put that there to tease a Shenmue announcement, the reality is that forklifts are used to move stuff around for conventions. But we can hope!
I can imagine. Sony is announcing Shenmue 3, while Yu Suzuki's coming at the scene with a forklift, celebrating and doing the rounds around the E3 stage. Then he holds both the Mirrors, raise them up (hands up) while smiling, all the building is flashing so fast with all those lights everywhere, while Shenmue's theme playing on the background 120dB and a manly strong voice says "The Legend of Shenmue continues, now only on PlayStation!".

Suddenly everything stops. Yu Suzuki looks around. The crowd is screaming and yahooing with no end, and then, Yu Suzuki nods his head and says "I see...." while winking the eye and smiling naughty. Mark Cerny then hugs Yu and lift him up on the air (he's too thin after all) and crowd starts screaming again. Then Mark, in the midst of the pandemonium, says: "Sony is always says Make. Believe. and this is what we are here to deliver. Legends come true and greatness awaits... 4 the players!"

All are leaving the stage, smiling and bowing in front of the crowd, while the camera takes away the focus from them and zoom to the gigantic LCD panels, which shows a frenzy fast tempo trailer for Shenmue 3. Finally, an hologram of Ryo Hazuki, recreates all the scenes from the first Shenmue games, like drinking a Jet Cola and collecting capsule toys, while the whole stage is fading black.

...

I will dream nice tonight. :3

Then we all wake up and realize it was just a dream. But if Sony, or whoever, announces it I'll run out and buy that system as soon as I can. I want to buy that system! Apart from a Shenmue sequel I'll be sitting this gen out for quite some time.

Beat Shenmue

So yeah, I played Shenmue 1, played the storyline where the protagonist knock off of Ryu in Streetfighter went all "you killed my father! and stole me MacGuffin...I meant grass-green mirror!" and went off after the Ching Chong crime lord.

I'll admit it, I played through the entire game, beat it, forklifts and all. Clunky gameplay, thank GOD this episode is over. Didn't get Mr. Ching Chong Crimelord in the end. Cool. There's a sequel.

Boot up the sequel, WOW! What a world of difference. Much tighter controls, better..just better everything.

Yup. Shenmue II has much more improvements under the hood then one might think. You have to play them back to back to fully notice the changes in the controls, camera, capsule toy machine animation and so on.

Also the much more vibrant colors and massively improved sky dome with tons of awesome textures and clouds instead of that flat pixelated panel in the background. People rarely mention it but to me this is the greatest graphical advancement from Shenmue I.

You can't read about it and look at pictures to get an impression. These things only give you that powerful impression when you play the game.

Hope you'll enjoy it more then you did the first one. ;-)

Shenmue II: If you missed the first Quick Timer Event when chasing Wong, then you'll have to search for him again. After searching around and asking people about him, he will be again at the spot where he threw you the colourful marbles.
You'll approach him from behind, he will try to get away, you'll stop him, he will bow to the ground asking for mercy and, then he will pass through your legs and get away again. What a marvelous repeatable chase that is. Keep doing it.

Re: Things you just noticed (recent playthroughs)

If you get caught by security too many times when trying to sneak into Warehouse No. 8 in the Old Warehouse district (Shenmue 1), you'll get a cutscene with the homeless man giving Ryo a few pointers on how to avoid the guards.

If you get caught a few more times, you'll get another cutscene of him giving Ryo a map of where the Warehouse and best places to hide are.

If you continue to fail, you will trigger the final cutscene with the homeless man walking Ryo to the front door of Warahouse No. 8, thus bypassing the guards altogether.

What if Shenmue games had continued to be made?

What if this whole time, Yu had been continuing his original vision, and made Shenmue 3 and beyond? What do you think that would have been like? Lets say maybe at this point in time, they were finishing the final chapters and what if it was coming out on a current gen platform? How many hours of enjoyment would we have gotten from all of those games at this point in time? How much talk and theorizing about the story would have come and gone? Not to mention all the talk about the game itself, exploration, bugs and glitches, mods etc? How even more quality would this place have been? Man, I really wish we had gotten to experience that. Hell, Sega may have still been in the console business if that had happened as well. Why cant everything that deserves to succeed, do so?

I just really feel had this series continued, it would hold such an even deeper place with me at this point, and it would have a sacred cult following, and held up as absolute niche gold, kind of like how it is now, but on steroids. I really would have liked to see what Yu would bring to the table through the progressions of this series, what he would have changed and improved with each game as time went on. There is just so many things and what ifs that I think would be fascinating to know. Idk maybe I just think about weird shit lol

Re: What if Shenmue games had continued to be made?

We certainly would have alot more merchandise to collect. We'd have a fanbase that at this point would be looking to Yu Suzuki for what next big follow up IP he's working on. We'd all certainly have alot more respect in the gaming community. We wouldnt have ignorant people out there who think the game is about sailors and cats.

Totally Wolfgame it's a fun feeling and we do have some material this go-around :P. I don't own an Xbox One (and don't plan on buying one unless they got Shenmue as an exclusive) but I'm watching their conference as well. It's really cool seeing all games looking amazing (at least visually and often gameplay-wise as well) now that there's more powerful hardware all around this generation.

FlagshipFighter I might hop in there but I'm trying to juggle work and E3 at the same time :( so probably wont have time to chat. If anything Shenmue related hits however you can be sure I'll be in there in a microsecond screaming profanities.

Re: NeoGAF: New Japanese trademark from Sega (Shenmue)

Apart from MS having Shenmue 2 for the original Xbox and wanting to build its profile in Japan, I've felt Sony is our best bet for Shenmue. They seem like the only ones listening when they ask gamers for what games we want made.

I think Nintendo would be more likely than MS to see Shenmue made because they really need people to buy their system or face a really grim future with the Wii U. And they have a good relationship with Sega. And I say all that as a huge Nintendo fan. I don't have a Wii U yet though, because I just haven't seen anything I can't live without.

Re: NeoGAF: New Japanese trademark from Sega (Shenmue)

Are people genuinely expecting something from anyone? Take a look at the games, their grandeur, their development studio, their costs. After presenting their games today, could you really see a Shenmue related game/announcement being made? Seriously?

It's been repeatedly said Suzuki barely has a team big enough to develop a mobile game, never mind a game that could stand side by side with any of the games on display today. You are on glue if you are watching any of the presentations with excitement of seeing a Shenmue trailer.

How so? Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony are always talking about innovative gaming. Microsoft's showing today was demonstrative of just how bland gaming has become and I refuse to believe that there are not more people like myself who are beginning to feel disenfranchised with the industry.

I'm yet to buy a 'next-gen' console and wont until I see a game that warrants me purchasing one. I don't think there's been a game released since Shenmue that can come close in terms of depth and ambition - so why wouldn't one of the big three look to bring Shenmue (or something like it) to their console as an exclusive? There's already a fanbase and I dare say a large amount of people waiting for Shenmue or a game like it. Exclusivity could shift a lot of consoles.

Yeah it's easy for the doubters because we've got no concrete evidence and it's somehow cool to be stoic and deny dreams. But the second an announcement is made all the skeptics will be shouting "Shaaaamuuuuu treeeeeee" like the rest of us. We just have to be there with a big piece of humble pie to shove down their throats like we've ate at every major video game convention for the past 10 years. Just let us be hopeful. We're adults, we can take the disappointment.

Re: NeoGAF: New Japanese trademark from Sega (Shenmue)

I see no point in half of this thread, with the same stock behaviors.

Welcome to the Shenmue Dojo. We are all Shenmue fans, and discussion is undoubtedly going to happen concerning Shenmue III. We all want it, even if there is a slim chance of it ever happening. So excuse the people who get excited over stuff that is said by X executive and X game company, because honestly, nobody truly knows what goes on behind closed doors except for the execs themselves. Note: this applies to anyone who has been a member of the Shenmue Dojo Community since before 2005 (!). Whoever the guy was that said it has become the cool thing to be negative and down on anyone with hope is spot on.

That being said, it is entirely ridiculous on "people who haven't given up" side to be nasty or rotten to users on here or people over a game. We get it, Shenmue is awesome, but at the end of the day, we would still be alive without it.

Can't everyone just be decent?

Shenmue is dead, guys.

Not as long as those who remain are loyal to him... I mean it... I mean...

But seriously I'm sorry we're souring the dojo for you. It's just that hope is all that some of us have left for Shenmue. It's hard to give up hope for something you care so much about. It's not like we obsess about shenmue every day all year. It's just a hobby. When I leave the dojo I think about shenmue from time to time but for the most part I'm spending time with my wife and baby girl or at work or serving at my church. Shenmue is just an escape. If shenmue is never finished I'll still die a happy man having lived a blessed life. Not trying to get all spiritual or anything. But please stay if you can bear us. We need some voice of reason when we can't see straight through our blind optimism.

I am the person who has done the interview.

Just one thing :

https://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?depth=1&hl=fr&ie=UTF8&nv=1&prev=_t&rurl=translate.google.fr&sl=es&tl=en&u=http://www.gameit.es/david-deville-asegura-que-yu-suzuki-le-ha-mostrado-material-de-shenmue-3-y-que-habra-noticias-pronto-rumor/&usg=ALkJrhjQjRqTLcDSMpLORbl9O_4CWHehDA

I said that Yu Suzuki showed me artworks of characters that you will meet while playing shenmue III but never said that it would be released anytime soon or that its even planned at all. Title is misleading and quite wrong. If someone know the admin, it would be nice to change it.

I am a bit busy right now but please wait, i will definetly get back to you.

Best regards,

David

Re: Shenmue 2 I want to share this map I made

I hate to be bumping, but did you guys know that "Wise Men's Qr." in Chinese actually means "too old street"? lol

lol I did not personally, are you chinese ?

Reminds me when I learnt recently the meaning of Lishao Tao by discussing with the shaolin master. Even Xuiying surname has been made to troll people.

Re: Initial dislike of Shenmue?

first time i played shenmue, i also found the controls very hard & stiff (unlike any other game i had played). i remember playing for 10 mins and then deciding to take a break & turned the console off.

funny because now, i would say the controls are what makes shenmue, so good. you dont want fluid, easy controls - you want to force ryo around the game. (i would say sleeping dogs is a good example, as the main character has no "weight")
