Re: Recent Gaming Purchases

Well I just woke up and saw Amazon had a flash deal for Skyrim Legendary for $20, so I bought the PC version and bought this fancy 1000 page hard back guide for $35, I was so tempted to buy it yesterday, but hesitated, now im glad I did.

As much as I love my consoles/handhelds, I need more PC games, my PC has barely been touched since i built it last year. Only a few games I even want though.

Dobuita-St Real Tour

Hey everyone,

Last week I went on a little trip to Dobuita. Thought you may enjoy some of the pics I took, especially Tom's snack, the famed Yokosuka Burger and a very familiar staircase.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts (Read OP Before Posting)

Sony aren't doing it for me currently with the PS4, the games announced for it so far have been a bore. PS3's upcoming games means I shall stay happy with PS3 for a long while yet.
I'm actually much more interested in Microsoft's current line up for Xbox One, way more Japanese games coming for that system, it's sort of reminding me more of the original Xbox, for that reason; plenty of Japanese support and the Western studios work like Ryse and Killer Instinct is also great to see.

Why Wii U you ask? Well, since Nintendo have now tried to appeal to their original audience again for Wii U, by doing away with mandatory motion controls (which I was never a big fan of in games outside of the ones I played with my brother). The upgrade in motion controls a nice bonus and the party games on offer for it (typical Wii Sports etc fare) will be fun to play with him. For myself though, I like the tablet controller they have made for the Wii U; it's going to be great for adventure games, strategy games and RPG games when you need to quickly look at the map and you don't need to pause the game to do that.

The actual games available for Wii U do appeal to me. I mean, there isn't a lot on offer (if anything, it's a fucking travesty how little Nintendo have done in the extra time they have had) but what is there interests me greatly. I'll bullet points the games that I really want to play:

-It appeals to me in an old school fashion with games like Wind Waker HD since it's my favourite Zelda next to Ocarina of Time and it's been a long time since I last played it.

-I'm also guaranteed a Zelda without motion controls for the Wii U. Finally. I found Twilight Princess incredibly difficult to control and didn't touch Skyward Sword for that very reason. I'm also guaranteed plenty of Mario games, since that seems to be all that Nintendo like to make nowadays. Not played a console Mario in decades.

-Platinum Games support for the system is another big factor for me, I love their games since it's classic Capcom that I am greatly missing in my life nowadays since the actual Capcom have gone to shit. Wonderful 101 is very much made to be a nostalgic game, reminding me of those Saturday morning cartoons infused with classic beat 'em up action goodness.

-Then there's Monolith Soft's next RPG, X and even though I didn't love Xenoblade as most people on the internet, I did really like it and X looks to be a big improvement over Xenoblade.

-That Atlus & Intelligent Systems crossover, Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem is a curiousity. And really, I'm obsessed with Atlus games and want to play every game that they release. Just seeing all of the mainline SMT characters (such as seeing Demi-Fiend from 3...in HD) in one game is enough to get me excited. I'll be especially excited if it's mainline SMT gameplay meets Fire Emblem SRPG gameplay.

-Fingers crossed for a game from Treasure for Wii U.

It just seems apparent that they rushed it out to get out to next gen first, to beat the competition but it has actually ended up making them look weaker and crushed most of their third party support. They're in the same catch 22 as Sony are with Vita; third party publishers/developers are waiting for the systems to sell better before committing to them and in return, Nintendo and Sony are not willing to pay for any exclusivity since they feel that their name brand should be justification enough. It's just class A arrogance on their part.

Phew that was a large post. #-o

TL;DR version: PS4 bores me, Xbox One is the one that excites me the most but is too expensive for me at the moment, Wii U has only a few select games, but what little that they have, interests me greatly; quality over quantity - as with the case of the PS Vita.

Re: Ys Series

Ys V (SNES) fan translation released:

Ys V - Kefin, Lost City of Sand
At the end of December, 1995, Falcom released Ys V for the Super Famicom, choosing to take a gamble and radically alter the gameplay formula of the series to mixed reviews. The game is now much more in the vein of Zelda, though it's not nearly so involved as those games. New to the series is the ability to jump and manually swing your sword/hold up your shield, as well as a rather interesting magic system, based around the notion of alchemy. Different spells are created by combining three elements of varying types, for a decent amount of variety. The game received a bit of a lashing in the press for how easy it was, and an update, Ys V Expert, was released only three months later. This update primarily raised the difficulty and added a time attack mode.

The game spent many years as the sole entry in the Ys series never to have been seen in English, in any form, and for good reason; the process of hacking this game has been a nightmare and has been plagued with dozens upon dozens of crashes. Said crashes were crippling to my motivation to work on the game, but the translation is now complete. Enjoy!

Supposedly it's more like a Quintet game rather than an Ys game. This is the last Ys game in the mainline series that needed an English release.

Re: Review The Last Game You Beat

Well I finally finished Tales of Xillia, and I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed the game. The production values could be a bit better and it was a shame all the sea port areas were re-hashed and re-skinned and it was blatantly obvious. But the story and characters are great, it reminded me of watching a well made anime, and its one of the few games I have seen that blends anime into a JRPG so well, and I think the character models looked pretty darn awesome too, but thats about the extent of visuals sadly, many area look and scope seem like it could have been done on PS2, it feels like a bit more enhanced PS2 JRPG, and while thats not bad completely, it leaves you wanting a little bit more, but with such involving story and characters you can almost over look it.

battes are fun, very addicting action combat system, the ability to link characters and customize them with a plethora of different skills really gives the ability to switches alot of things up in battle and experiment. Sure the Lithium Orb (which is basically the sphere grid from FFX, thus bringing up the PS2 again) is kinda of stolen, but it works well for this setup, and I enjoyed leveling my character other atributes with it. Here is another small gripe but doesnt end up really being a gripe at all, so the game is way too easy on normal, and I mean you could play it with your eyes closed, its that easy, thankfully the JRPG gods blessed these devs with a revelation taking from many other game genres in putting a difficulty settting in a JRPG. Wow how did they not think of that sooner? Its scarce but im glad its there, but i'll have to play again to see how difficult it actually is on other settings, which brings me to my next point...

New Game + in this game is alot more than the usual New Game + in many other JRPGs. So at the beginning of the game you choose a character and you progress the story through that characters point of view, you cant watch all the cut scenes or even do all the quests and see everything in one playthrough (which is probably a hit or miss with some people). And that works fantasically with new game plus because it gives you a bit more incentive to actually play the game again. You start your new game + with the usual fare, keep levels, items and character progress from the last play through. Just this time you get a whole other point of view, and there are many times in the game where your party, and the main 2 characters split and go off on their own and certain events happen that can only be seen when choosing that characters perspective, its actually significant scenes to the story and not felt tacked on or short events that really defeat the purpose.

All in all Tales of Xillia was a very unique experience, it blends so many different elements from gaming and anime, and does so blissfully like no other JRPG I have seen, it has a certain perfection for me since I love both (although the game is far from perfect). Tales of Xillia is a very focused experience and has many well done touches and refinements that other JRPGs simply look over. The game definitely isnt for everyone, but if you like anime, JRPGs, and want an 80 hour experience with a well told tale with little strings left hanging loose and fun combat definitely give it a try.

Re: How do you picture Shenmue III in your mind?

I believe that in shenmue III ryo discovers the chinese manufacturing plants in charge of making the equipment necessary for the US government to build huge FEMA camps across the USA to enslave and exterminate the local population. he also discovers that lan di is the middle man between china and the US government and that he is in fact a reptilian humanoid that is looking for the mirrors to open the cave where his people hid their spaceship so that he can finally return home after taking complete control over humanity. Iwao had managed to defeat his father and take the mirrors to prevent this as you discover in shenmue 2.

I believe this is also the reason why Shenmue 3 was never made as it contained too much information about the illuminati, their reptilian nature and their world domination plans. This is why yu suzuki always appears traumatised and we never see him with his family as the reptilians have kidnapped his family and told him that they would murder them if he ever raised any suspicions about them. Finally to be able to recover his family he rewrote shenmue 3 recently (using the excuse that he was recompiling everything in to one game) and releasing it through one of the illuminati's minions (sony) so that he can prove that he is no longer a threat to them.

Re: Blog: What if Shenmue was exclusive to XBox One

Is it possible? Yes anything is possible, however..

1) The game actually is needing to be released in Japan to maximize sucess because the Shenmue brand is known in Japan well enough to be sucessful. I know because ive spoken to Japanese gamers while living in Japan and they enjoyed the games and want to see 3. Why minimize its sucess on a system nobody will buy there. Japanese are HIGHLY nationalistic people and no game can ever push them into buying an Xbox short of Monster Hunter or Final Fantasy being an exclusive to them. Even then I believe those emmensely popular titles would fail.

2) Xbox One isnt even available in Japan yet. That shows how much they care about the brand out there.

3) MS has shown no interest in the series.

4) It bombed in the U.S last time around when Shenmue 2x was exclusive here. What makes you think they want to fund/publish a game that bombed previously if Sega isnt even willing to make it themselves? This isnt Dead Rising, a series proven to be sucessful exclusively on Xbox. Its Shenmue, a series that fell on its ass because of it. Sega wouldnt want to risk it failing again after all this time aswell. What a waste of time and money that would be. Then Sega would look even more retarded then they already do.

5) Nintendo would be next in line after Sony as a secondary viable option if we still talk about exclusivity. They atleast have the Japanese market, a stronger relationship with Sega and the desire to apeal to the core gamer market that they so desperately need to get a hold of.

Now could be it multiplatform and release on XBO aswell? Ofcourse, that would make much more sense.
But PS4 exclusive is still way more likely.

Tales of Zestiria announced! Very excited, and a worldwide release has been confirmed simultaneously with the japanese one, though we'll probably have to wait longer for the localization.

I can remember a few years ago all the pleading that it would take to get these games localized. Times sure have changed, couldn't be happier about it.

Re: Tales Series

The real question, can they make it as good as Xillia? Tales series has been known for having one good game followed by a bad then a good then a bad, and from what I have heard it flip flops. Xillia is the only Tales game I ever beat so I cant really comment myself. I want to go back and finish Eternia on PSP sometime soon, it seemed awesome.

I personally like every game in the series, some more than others of course. With a series like this it's really personal preference.

Yeah saw some videos this morning of it, looks really good. I can't believe we are getting this many Tales games back to back. The PS3 is going out strong with Xillia 2, Chronicles HD, Persona 5 (playing 4 on vita and its so god damn fun) and now Tales of ZestyItalianDressing all being exclusives. From what I've read its supposed the first worldwide release of a Tales game. If sales continue to be strong this might be a turning point for us RPG fans in the US/EU as far as Namco is concerned. At the very least we might not have to worry about them getting localized or not any more.

Yeah man, it's awesome. All of the games you listed would be big reasons for me to get a PS4, and i'm more than happy to stick with the PS3. Saves me the money of buying a new console.

I remember when getting a new psp model meant the picture got better. Now Sony makes it worse. I miss when getting a new model was pure gravy. (360 slim, psp 2000, 3000 ect) Now new models are just stripped down pieces of crap. Just look at the new PS3 model. Cheap plastic casing and lower quality parts. The xbox super slim omits ports and features, as does the newer wii that omits backwards compatibility and other features . At least in the past when a model was stripped down the savings would be passed onto the customer with a much lower price point.

Well, I cant stop playing skyrim... Playing this game on PC on max settings with the xbox 360 controller is pretty dern awesome I must say. Its really gotten its hooks into me and its better than I had imagined, the world is rather pretty, which I was expecting a bit more bland so thats good, it does lack color but it what it lacks in that aspect, it makes up for in other visual areas, the art direction is actually pretty darn good and aesthetically sound. It seems like a great explanation of western RPG, the definition of it really, im getting sucked in.

Re: Recent Gaming Purchases

I've got one. Good console with a solid library of games. It's too bad nobody knows about it.

BTW, WWHD is a great remake

It really is. The visuals are absolutely beautiful and this is coming from someone who was disappointed how the game looked at first (I'm a purist and it didn't look like they were capturing the look/feel of the original well enough). It's really held up well and is probably still my favourite Zelda. The game is so charming and rewards exploration.

I hope you were eventually able to redeem your code. I love my Wii U. Wind Waker is the best HD remake if you ask me. Wonderful 101 and Pikmin 3 are awesome too. Love the slight upscale it does on Wii games as well. Not a true render, but it does in fact upscale them to 720p/1080p depending on your settings. And it is noticeable.

Well, at least there's two of you. Yeah, my redeem code worked and the eShop is finally back up. I'm planning on getting both Pikmin 3 and Wonderful 101 in the future.

I am in love with this console. It's so good. From the slick and beautiful UI across the board, the menu's music are relaxing rather than annoying and chirpy like the original Wii's was like. I can play Wind Waker in bed or another room with the tablet controller (which is amazing, btw). The fact that Wii U's online services actually have a presence, whereas Wii's did not really at all. The fact that you can play all of your games with one controller, as opposed to switching through my GC controller, the classic controller and Wiimote is just much better. No more games with forced motion controls, either. THANK GOD.

A big improvement on all fronts from the original Wii and the software library is quality over quantity , which I can appreciate being a Vita owner. Some people may scoff at that, but hey; It's the polar opposite to the original Wii with its shovelware. Just browsing through the games available on the Wii U eShop...there's plenty of games out for the system, it's just whether those games appeal to you , or not.

I also picked up some classy SNES games up like Brawl Brothers (a beat 'em up I've never heard of till now from Jaleco, which is sweet), Earthbound and ZombiU, which was on a sale.

There's plenty more still on the eShop for me to get next time too, especially from Capcom; Mega Man X 1 & 2, Super Castlevania, Final Fight 1, 2 & 3, Super Ghost & Goblins the list goes on and on. Just a fantastic selection of retro games and modern games on offer that really appeal to me.

Why do I always fall for the ones that sell so badly. :-({|=

MG Rising ive always held off on cause I didnt consider it a real Metal Gear game, but whatever ill take it for $20.
And the Mass Effect games ive played through all on 360 cause I started it on that, but frick it $20 for all on PS3, with all the DLC of the first two? Sold.

MG Rising is one of my GOTY. I loved it. Seems like I'm the only one on here who does though, since everyone else who played it hated it. A new one with Grey Fox (as both pre-Cyborg Ninja [in Rhodesia] and post-Cyborg Ninja) would be fantastic. So would a Solidus Snake spin-off or a Liquid Snake spin-off (set in Afghanistan where he was captured). Heck, why not just have the "Rising" series be a MG series starring various popular Metal Gear characters. It would interest me far more than whatever MGS5 is.

Love the Mass Effect series. 3 sucked overall, but the multiplayer was magnifico .

Assassin's Creed. The first one.

Since there are like five or six of them now, I figure I might as well actually play the first one for a change even though I know it's super repetitive.

God man, you have no idea how hard I've tried to like that series and see what everyone else is talking about so much. I love history. I love video games. I should love this series, right? But man, it's so vapid and boring. The first game is such a chore to play through.

And the amount of games the series has accumulated in just one generation span (yes, yes, longest one ever, I know) is just really off putting to me. I wouldn't even know where to start. They all look like the same game to me, despite how different each setting is, just with a new number attached to the end of the title.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts (Read OP Before Posting)

Turns out I may be getting a Vita after all. I won't jump the gun until things play out.

It comes highly recommended. You especially would enjoy it joka, get it, you wont regret it.

the psp is one hell of a little hand held too, thst son of a bitch can play multiple libraries of games via emulators (vita custom firmware is scarce and still in beta and not even worth getting cause no psn) and the psps library on its own would make getting one worth it, everything else it can do are just lots of added bonuses. I wonder if PS2/Dreamcast/Game Cube/Original Xbox emulators will one day be playable on the vita? *crosses fingers*
