NullDC 1.0.4 r150 with Shenmue fixes by masterchan777

Hello everyone,

The latest build of nullDC has a couple of bugs that affect the gameplay of Shenmue, one of those bugs causes the emulator to randomly crash at some points during the gameplay of Shenmue II, and the other bug produces a really annoying high-pitch buzzing sound when playing What's Shenmue with CDDA Audio enabled.

I managed to fix both bugs, recompiled and uploaded the fixed nullDC r150 :

I think it's the best version of nullDC out there, especially for Shenmue, since it has all the advantages of the latest release as well as the newly implemented fixes, give it a try if you like and let me know what you think.

Note : I highly recommend deleting nullDC.cfg file, this will reset nullDC's settings back to default. You also need to install BOTH X64 and x86 versions of VS 2013 Dll files. which can be grabbed from this link : http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40784

Thanks for your time.

Re: What's Shenmue translation project

I think it's time for a little appetizer, considering we're still having difficulties with hacking the menus and the UI (We're still looking for hackers/SH4 dissasemblers).

Re: Shenmue 2 Full English Xbox Speech mod for Sega Dreamcas

By any chance did anyone ever make a version without downsampled audio just for Emulator purposes?

Like I even tried to do this myself. I got as far as checking out the tens of thousands of different files inside the AFS container in disc 1 alone between the Dreamcast and Xbox versions and saw they were referred to differently between versions, that alone was enough to make me give up lol.

So yeah would def appreciate it if anyone has done this could share, or any pointers on how the above was dealt with would be cool. (...It wasn't "manually was it? 8-[ ) I'd share it myself if I could get it working.

im not sure what version it is but some fella over on an Adam Koralik video posted this https://docs.google.com/document/d/1J8NV5EiFu-J17NbOMsD93le-QRpj4I9zdZTIyZvnlZg/edit

the linked shenmue 2 copy has full ENG voices and each disc is around 1gb so.. maybe its not compressed.

Re: Shenmue 2 Full English Xbox Speech mod for Sega Dreamcas

Ok, I mirrored the uncompressed 1gb per disc CDI pack and added lots of info to the end of the original post on the front page. I also cleaned it up significantly and removed much dead info and links. It now looks much more presentable. Thanks to all involved that I mention.

Emulators/Optical Disc Emu's.

1gb uncompressed audio, CDI images of Shenmue 2 Xbox English Speech mod. 2.43gb download, extracts to 4.11gb's.

For tips on how to get near perfect emulation of this game, you can follow the info found here! This has the original file for the 1gb release if you see my link above down.

Thanks to Chowchilla for the info!

SweetFX + profile by brad86. To turn off the CRT effect look for SweetFX_settings.txt and find the line "#define CRTAmount 1.00" and set the value to "0.00" and save if you want clearer graphics without scannlines. Also install this all to the root of NullDC.

Shenmue Properly Upscaled to 4K

I've been wanting to do this for a while now. The results are better than I ever had expected, so I'd like to share with everyone.

A big discussion when talking about Shenmue and current technology is how to properly display the image. Some connect via VGA to a monitor which is the easiest solution and looks great. Most want to play on their TV's however, which as time goes on gets a little more tricky. I've done various methods including VGA on monitor, VGA to component on a CRT 4:3 HDTV, VGA pixel for pixel on an XBR-3, VGA to HDMI through a HD third party scaler (the one Adam used) and finally now this method which I can confirm absolutely demolishes every other way I've ever viewed this game.

So the first thing to know is you'll need to properly upscale the image, otherwise it'll look horrible. To properly upscale into HD (while retaining the correct aspect ratio) a third party scaler is required, which are niche and quite expensive. They get the job done, though obviously don't push the envelope any. The image quality is better than displaying pixel for pixel.

4K UHD is the same principal, though thanks to new technology becomes a bit easier (just more expensive, but is an investment). The two best scalers on the market as of today are the X-Reality PRO by Sony and the Revelation by SHARP. I won't go into major detail, but both are comparable and take different steps to achieving the same end goal.

Because the X-Reality PRO is an internal scaler, we're actually going to want to convert the VGA signal to HDMI raw without upscaling. From there the X-Reality PRO will do the rest and by the rest, I mean this . Do take a glance as it'll show the amount of tech the engine uses to upscale an image, something a third party scaler simply isn't capable of.

The end result is this and I don't think much more could be expected of a game developed from the late 90's onward, especially with a rendering resolution of 640x480. The X900B in general hides jaggies particularly well, but what stands out to me the most is the color range and depth. Granted this is a testament as to how far technology has come, but it also says a lot about the production value of Shenmue. It truly was ahead of it's time.

Here is the game (both Passport and Disc 1) running:

The equipment (though the most important tech such as the scaler is internal):

Re: Shenmue Undub [Japanese Speech Mod] [CD-R 80/99]

Hello everyone, I'm sorry not to have given new long time, I've been busy. With the announcement of the release of Shenmue 3, I decided to distribute new copy of Shenmue Undub.

Add

Shenmue Undub "Disc 2" [PAL-E] (CD-R 99): [reupload bug fix 07/2015]

Shenmue Undub [PAL-E] .GDI for GDEMU/USB-GDROM/Emulator:
Shenmue Undub Disc 1 (GDI)
Shenmue Undub Disc 2 (GDI)
Shenmue Undub Disc 3 (GDI)

If anyone can confirm that games boot on GDEMU? I do not have the equipment to test.

Thx.

BTW, there is any undub version of shenmue 2? Just to play Shenmue 2 for DC with Yuan male voice

I realized this version but I have never shared it.

Re: Demul v0.7 alpha released. (Dreamcast Emulator)

Demul is a really good Dreamcast emulator, and unlike NullDC it's still being worked on. It requires a more powerful PC to run smoothly at this current stage but it's being optimised and more bugs are being fixed. One of the things you can do to minimise the sound-distortion bug that happens every now and then is to make sure v-sync is unchecked.

The next Demul alpha release will bring a cool Shenmue II fix: After Burner II in Shenmue II will be playable for the first time on a PC emulator, stay tuned.

Note: Please don't ask me to provide any SEGA copyrighted files required to run the emulator, Google is your friend.

Please test the emulator and kindly provide your feedback of any bugs/performance issues you may find, especially with Shenmue and Shenmue II. It'd be really helpful if you could also provide a save file at the spot where the bug/glitch happens alongside your bug report.

Re: What's Shenmue translation project V1.0.2 UPDATED!

Ladies and Gentlemen, here's a new version of the What's Shenmue E/G/S translation, v1.0.2:

Download patch version 1.0.2

There's only two updates for this one:
- Added GDI support to the output format. Now the patcher can deliver a GDI image for its use with Disc Drive Emulators (Like GDEMU)
- Subtitle edits on the German translation.

RELEASE: Shenmue 2 Explore Mod Disc 4 V1

Welcome to Version 1 of Disc 4 of my Shenmue 2 Explore Mod!
http://i1159.photobucket.com/albums/p622/shengoro86/2016-03-16%2017_28_15-nullDC%201.0.4_n%20-%20309.83%20-%20VPS_%20154.92PAL480i50.00%20RPS_%2077.46%20Vert_%202.43M%20Sh4__zpszcbjt4ic.jpg

***---SUPPORT SHENMUE 3---***
http://www.shenmue.link/order

---What is this?---
This mod allows you to freely walk around the areas of Shenmue 2 without clipping. This means that you can walk through walls!
It is meant for the user to explore the unseen areas of Shenmue 2.
This release does NOT let you play the game normally. Please BUY a copy of Shenmue 2 if that is what you are looking for. This release is only for those who want to explore areas without boundaries.

---Why make this?---
Because it was always a dream of mine to explore Shenmue 2 entirely. Now I release that to you.

---How is this possible?---
This mod contains techniques developed by Bluemue, Giogio, Wude, Ilducci, and Shengoro86 combined into a public release.
This release is based on the Sm1th Full English >99min release CDI

---How do I use it?---
This is an oversized CDI so either use it on an emulator or on a GDEMU/USB-GDROM.
I did this on purpose because I do not trust the 1st_read sequencing of this release after my hacks. I am trying to keep you all safe from destroying your GDROM drives.

---Usage instructions---
Shenmue 2 does not have a public debug menu so this release will need the use of save files to pivot from one area to the next.
I included two sets of save files in this release:
Mike117's saves for Disc 4: http://www.shenmuedojo.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=46740
My own saves based on Mike's for three areas with different entry points.
These saves are currently in vmu*.bin format so they work natively with emulators.
For actual hardware, you can export the VMS VMI from them and download them to a real memory card with Dream Explorer or the old fashioned way.
So yeah, use the save you want to get into the area you want. Then just explore!

---Known bugs / room for improvements---
- During the walking scenes with Shenhua, you are still locked in the area behind her (unless you pivot through a wall). You can not just freely explore without her boundaries pivoting you.
- No doors are available in this release. Wait for a future release of this hack.
- Crag and some forest areas are not completely hacked yet. Wait for the next release of this hack.
- Notebook does not open to hacked instructions page.
- Shenhua's flashback scene is not available

Re: Digital Foundry Retro: Shenmue 2 - A Masterpiece Revisit

Hope you guys enjoy some of it. I gave a shout out to this very forum since, really, this is THE place for Shenmue info. I'm amazed at how in-depth some folks have gone into pulling the game apart. It's awesome!

If I had time, I would have gone into more depth on emulation and, perhaps, point out more of those weird Xbox/DC differences (like all the modified signs and whatnot). Ah well.
