The 2014 Toy Capsule Challenge

(I searched the forums for a thread like this, but couldn't see anything similar, so apologies if it's been done recently, though Stare said it hadn't.)

The goal of the Toy Capsule Challenge is to collect ALL toy capsules across both games (best with save import, naturally), WITHOUT cheating. As you all know, this is not easy, and might just take you the entire year.

Want in? The you're in. Already done it? Then congrats! Want to cheat and pretend you did it fairly? Then that's on you. We're on an honour system, and if you're lacking in the honour department then that's a shame, but we'll have fun doing it the right way (well, some of us).

What's the point? One might as well ask "why do river's flow?" (Don't say "ocean," smartass). Want a more tangible reason? Well, complete your quest, post up a blurry screenshot of your collection (optional), and then be added to the...

Love the sprite you've done so far. I just thought I'd post saying if anyone wants to use my Ryo sprite sheet I made for SMBX, feel free with no need to credit me. It's in the style of Mario World's Luigi, but I only did big Ryo; there's no fireflower Ryo or small Ryo.

I like the idea of the Shenmue Mobile thing with the mini games and toy capsules. I'd play that every day, for sure. I wish I had time to help, but I'm swamped right now. Best of luck!

I'd love to see this happen. Imagine if 1 & 2 were remade with this style of gameplay, but with Streets of Rage style battle gameplay mixed with this old school point & click adventure. Shenmue 3 could be made on a budget of something insanely small, if it too followed this style. I doubt Yu would get behind the idea, but it's nice to dream.

Cheat Codes for NDC, CodeBreaker or Action Replay

These codes will work for nullDC Cheater or Action Replay, on the NTSC version of Shenmue I (all discs) . They won't work on PAL discs, but I'm working on getting some more PAL users. Some codes work only in certain areas, and others seem to work randomly some times and not at others.

If you have any codes you've found yourself, please post them here and I'll add them to the list. You might be able to find codes that do other things by editing some of the existing codes, so good luck on your search! Most codes can be changed by editing the last string of numbers. For example, from 00000001 to 00000002 might cause the code to do something else.


Inventory and Menu Cheats

Camera boundary vanishing (stop objects vanishing when they go slightly off camera. True widescreen!)

Fuku model swap (swap fuku's model OR fighting style to let us fight with anyone)
Train anywhere (A switch to set the "train here yes/no" dialogue as active)
Hidden raffle prizes (?)
Fast movement (move faster. Or perhaps fight faster?)
Hack NPC spawns (make any NPC spawn in Dobuita, for example)
Jump to location (jump to any specified area when you exit one)
Retro Hazuki residence outside (like it is in the memories custcene, with the falling cherry blossoms)

You can get null DC cheater by searching for it online. This program is in German, however, so you might need to tinker around with it until you get what all the buttons do. You'll also need to rename the cheater .exe file to match the name of you nullDC version .exe. So for example, my nullDC executable is named "nulldc," so I had to rename the cheater to "nulldcCheater." Remember to also click "trainer is aus" to turn it on once you've added the codes. Any further questions, just post here.

Alternatively, all of these will work on CodeBreaker or Action Replay.

Rigged 2D Characters for Your Projects

I'm using Spriter Pro to create many (many!) rigged 2D Shenmue characters and animations for those characters. I figured I'd share every character as I go, because I know there might be a few people who want to use similar things in their projects, or perhaps simply play around with posing Shenmue characters.

I'm doing this for my own fangame called The Hazuki Legacy, so you can expect many more. So far the only character I've rigged with bones is Ryo Hazuki, and it's more of a test run than anything else (I'd like to do them in higher resolution and with smoother edges). He currently has only 2 animations, but I'll re-upload it each time I add an animation to his project file, or when I replace his body parts with higher res images.


Each of the following files are saved in .scml format, which is an extension used for Spriter Pro projets. If you don't have Spriter and you'd like me to export an animation to Unity or even a sprite sheet image, please let me know:

I can now confirm a couple of things about these codes. Firstly, they do work on Action Replay, so yes console users can use them. I'll update the title of the thread to reflect that. Secondly, most of these codes will work across all discs. :D

I've found a bunch more codes recently, including stuff like a code which lets you save on the fly, and one which overpowers your moves, etc. I'll post them all at once, soon.

Updated my codes list. Now includes the following new codes:

- Turn off music
- Natural camera offset or zoom
- Save anywhere and continue on (PAL)
- Place items in your hand (haz rez sword or sheaf only for now)
- Become the "bike man" model (haz res only)
- Clipping off (multiple areas)
- Fly (multiple areas)
- Ryo X position (multiple areas)
- No jacket / shoes (yard only for now)
- True invisibility

You can also use Ryo X position with clipping off to train anywhere in Dobuita, Sakuragoaka, or your yard.

Actually, on further investigation it seems like the IDs are useful without needing to offset the address at all. I searched for Ryo's ID (converted to hex, then to value) and it came up like 19 times. I did the same for Cathy Wilkins and it came up once. So yeah, this could be interesting. Thanks. :)

[Fangame] Shenmue: The Hazuki Legacy [In Progress]

The project started out as an idea to blend River City Ransom and Shenmue together. After a while though, the story got too serious to adequately portray in 8-bit graphics, so it evolved into this: a 2D adventure / RPG with QTE, and what I hope will eventually be a fitting homage to Shenmue.

To start with I'm releasing a short(ish) concept game before July of this year, which will act as a demo as well as being a self-contained story, and part of the overall story of the final game. This will be a glimpse into one of the two protagonists, 7th Fleet Officer Cathy Wilkins, as she struggles to uncover a conspiracy involving the Yakuza, the US Navy, and a powerful martial artist smuggling a mythical herb into the city. After the events of the demo she'll be joined by the second protagonist, Fukuhara, whose quest to attain martial arts mastery thrusts him into the same perilous situation as Cathy.

The demo will feature most of the following. The main game will feature the entire list:
⋅  A point & click style adventure system. Pointing and clicking optional (you can use a gamepad or keyboard instead).
⋅  QTE combat system.
⋅  Utilize the Shenmue journal by clicking clues and 'using' them on the environment or people, to investigate.
⋅  Day / Night cycle, and the passing of weeks.
⋅  Magic weather.
⋅  Fully voiced by fans of the series (text optional).
⋅  Collect toy capsules featuring games such as Jet Set Radio, Crazy Taxi, Sonic, and Skies of Arcadia.
⋅  Play Darts 777, QTE Champ, and possibly more at the arcade.
⋅  Explore parts of Yokosuka that you never saw in Shenmue 1.
⋅  As Fukuhara, quest to seek out and prove yourself to the four masters of Yokosuka.
⋅  As Fukuhara, you'll eventually be in charge of managing the dojo and helping a master to train students (including Goro).
⋅  Puzzles.
⋅  Meet old and new characters alike.
⋅  Featuring music from both games, unused tracks, and tracks from Shenmue Online.
⋅  To be released on Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, and HTML5. Eventually, possibly Dreamcast, too.

Assets Catalogue

I've often come to Dojo and found it hard to find a particular FBX model or a texture or something, and had to wade through many comments. So I figured maybe it would be helpful for those of us working on 3D Shenmue fan projects to have all of the assets in one thread. If we already have something like that, please let me know and I'll delete the thread. But I didn't find anything comprehensive at all.

So if you post the link here (Mediafire for example), I'll list all of the links along with the person who is credited with ripping the asset or whatever.
