New 2D fighter: Samurai Spirits Zero

Postby nuts_to_that » Fri Jul 18, 2003 3:53 am

SNK Playmore opened the official website for Samurai Sprits Zero. This marks the return of a great fighting series! (This series is called Samurai Showdown in North America.) You can also see a character from this series, Earthquake, in SNK vs. Capcom which is the newest 2D fighter by SNK Playmore. SNK vs. Capcom will be released in arcades next week!

SNK Playmore has confirmed that the game is 2D, so one can assume it will be on the Neo-Geo MVS hardware. Perhaps if the rumours of SNK Playmore negotiating with Sammy are true, and if anything happens between them, then perhaps the game will be on the Atomiswave hardware. The Atomiswave hardware powered Guilty Gear X and Guilty Gear XX. This hardware is essentially the Naomi board with a different name (Naomi powered Capcom vs. SNK, Capcom vs. SNK 2, and Marvel vs. Capcom 2).

The rumors surrounding SNK migrating some of its games over to Sammy's Atomiswave hardware are mostly unfounded and in my opinion, I don't believe the change will happen. Case in point, the almost unheard of puzzle game POCHI NYO NAYA (due out this month for MVS) was originally slated for an upgrade to Atomiswave hardware (according to the rumors again) but turns out it will be MVS only.

The good news is that SNK Playmore will continue to support the MVS, and if the current releases are any indication, they are beginning to get frightfully good at making these SNK games again!
