Type-0 was honestly a step in the direction I wanted, and its a good game. BUT its still no where near the quality it should be, you get that addicting battles feeling from the FF of old, but the story and world needed more, alot more. Im not sure what exactly to expect out of 15, its really an open bag right now. I wish and hope it could revive the quality of FF back to what it should be, but im afraid square is more concerned about profit anymore, they need to be devising a plan to ressurect the JRPG genre this console generation, and FF15 needs to be that game. I'll keep dreaming for that, but I too havent truly enjoyed a main series entry since FF10, there have been some non main entry ones I enjoyed just fine as well, like Crisis Core on PSP.

So I just found out some very disturbing news about the strategy guide collection I just bought for 7 8 and 9. They literally copy and pasted the old school guides and put them on hardcover and with MORE ERRORS (for example Red XIIIs bio info is on Vincents bio page...) Just check out some of these amazon reviews http://www.amazon.com/FINAL-FANTASY-FFV ... merReviews

Yikes, apparently the FF7 and FF9 original guides werent that good to begin with, and its really perplexing that the time frame for when these were announced and when they came out (almost a year later), and all they were able to do was copy and paste the original guides just WITH MORE ERRORS in that time??? I was certain they would at least re-write them and keep things current. As it turns out they ended up being a lazy lazy copy/paste cash grab for Prima with a outrageous $130 price tag on them, although amazon has them for cheaper but the poor gamestop buyers are really screwed over.

I may be making a return to amazon for this, I still havent even opened them so they are factory sealed, and now im not sure I really even want to open them. I dont think they will be much in the way of a collectors item since I dont see a serious demand for them later down the line considering they are screwed up. Seriously Prima? How cheap can you be?...

Final Fantasy Explorers is coming to 3DS in January 2016 to US and UK. Dont get too excited, its a monster hunter clone, and a nostalgia cash in that I have heard isnt really that good... How do we get Square back to making original games again? And passing on these types of games? They never used to do these, now its all they ever do.

Thats great news! I love FF12, all Ivalice based rpgs are the best in the Final Fantasy series. I can't wait for FFXII. I'd love to see my favorite game ever - Final Fantasy Tactics in HD edition or complete remake, but that is never gonna happen  .

^I'd prefer a FFTactics prequel playing as Ramza's dad, Barbanath Beoulve. Dude was supposedly a right bad ass.

Eh, not it wasn't. Not really, anyway. Not an official announcement, just one of the music conductors at a FF concert letting it slip before Square officially announce it (at I am guessing, Gamescom). I don't think Square were expecting him to let it out of the bag, like that.

Note that he says "remake" so despite that, I believe it will be a remaster but with newly recorded music and some redone character models like FFX HD had. It's sort of been obvious this was happening for a while now, what with it coming up to the 10th anniversary of FFXII and Yoshinori Kitase & Hitoshi Sakimoto (composer) both teasing it plenty over the past year or two.

What interests me most is if they're going to be including both versions of the game (International Zodiac and the original) since both games have completely different game systems in them. And just how much of the game is getting remastered? Still, really excited for Gamescom now. =P~

Yeah, I saw that earlier today too. I immediately thought he must mean remaster, not remake. Square is not remaking FFXII. A HD remaster on the other hand sound much more realistic, and I would definitely buy if it was the International Zodiac Job System version. I must say though, as fun as XII was, the story was really disappointing. I just want the Final Fantasy series to be back to being great in all aspects like it was through the first 10 installments. *dreams on*

Most FF games I've played had rubbish storylines (tropes galore, cliches galore, predictable). The only exception being Tactics. No offence, but I play FF for the gameplay, not the storyline. The older ones have their charm to them, but they tend to drag on and on, so I never finish them. Not a fan of the other three PS2 FF games like X, XI or X-2 myself, personally.

FFVII-IX I would say have great stories, on the first discs. After that they all go way downhill. I loved the Laguna stuff in VIII but the whole GF amnesia and time travel was stupid. IX was amazing storywise until maybe even disc 3. Even the start of that is one of my favourite sections of a game but when the game starts to focus on Kuja/Garland the wheels start falling off. The start of disc 3 even feels like it could wrap up the story in a couple of hours but ends up carrying on for another 20, there is only one part after those opening hours that stand out as one of my favourite parts of the game. It seems like they get to a point in the story and just want to see how crazy they can get things and it starts feeling like a different game to what you was playing at the beginning.

Still I have to say I miss changing discs in Final Fantasy. When it told you to pop in the next disc it felt like you was starting a new chapter.

Still I love that people make out that the series is a shadow of it's former self. I know XIII wasn't everyone's cup of tea but XII came before that and many say it's their favourite. Many people hated VIII and then IX came out which many people rank as one of the best in the series as well. Each entry is so different that not every single one will be for everyone.

^^ the stills on the disk swap prompt screens were especially nice, had a certain, 'late 9x's/0x's demo scene' feel to em.

1-3 laid the ground work, got the series up and going and put a distinct lore in the franchise. 4 and 5 built off that and switched things up in different ways but ultimately led to the masterpiece that was 6. then around the time of 6 and 7 they started changing and modernizing certain aspects and left some things from the first 5 games behind, especially with 7 and beyond. but I think everyone can agree that 6-10 were pretty much the hallmark games of the series, everyones collective favorites usually lie within those games. I personally like most of the numbered Final Fantasy games, I think their storylines are great for most of the series, great characters and worlds. These games have just always been a needed escape for me every few years, I would like to go back and play a few more of them again though.

I usually cite FFVII as my favorite in the series (and one of my favorite games overall, at that), but I also recognize that much of my love for it is nostalgia-fueled. Nothing wrong with that; it's just another form of affection. But it is a form of bias nonetheless.
When I think about which one is my slightly more objective favorite though (as in which is the most solid, the most fun), I always come back around to FFXII.

I think FFVIII is the prettiest though. Something about its art design, the look of the characters and the world, is just so attractive and appealing to me.
