The MGS5 spoilers are pretty juicy and interesting (and batshit crazy). I can see this game's story really pissing people off though. Kind of like how Metal Gear sequels normally do. There's still loads we don't know about with regards to spoilers yet, they've done a great job this time of keeping things tightly sealed away from leaking.

Boss spoilers:

And the boss unit in this game are called: "The Skulls" who are reanimated soldiers, probably prototype versions of Gray Fox before Gray Fox had to be reborn into his exoskeleton. They look creepy. They supposedly stalk and hunt you down during missions at night too when you least expect it during some ordinary missions. The disappointing thing seems to be that you don't fight Skull Face himself...he probably just dies in a cutscene like Coldman and Galvez/Zadornov did in Peace Walker. Disappointing.

Started playing Metal Gear Rising today as I'm trying to catch up before MGSV. I'm not really a fan of this genere but my god do I suck at the combat. It doesn't help that the camera feels like Michael J. Fox is controlling it.

Can't say I'm enjoying it but I just finished chapter 3 and it's supposedly not the longest game in the world so I'll push through by next weekend.

I quite enjoyed Revengeance, but Blade Mode certainly wasn't as awesome as advertised, nor what I expected it to be. I never managed to get to grips with using the right stick to control the blade, so I would just mash the face buttons instead. Maybe I just sucked?

It's a big shame we didn't get this in the end:

Worry not, Shenmue 3 will score better. MGS5 is looking gorgeous.

Skyward Sword also got tons of 10's and that's one of the worst games I've ever played. Can't trust review scores in the slightest -- although I suspect it'll be good.

Yeah I would say brand alone can be enough for a game to get 10/10 as long as it isnt a broken piece of shit

To be fair, MGS4 really is a pretty marvelous game. The mechanics, the details, the environments, the secrets and all that; excellent stuff.
The job of a reviewer is to quickly finish a game and formulate an opinion, right? But the biggest problems with MGS4 are story-related. In the short term (i.e. the amount of time it would take a reviewer to finish it and give it a write-up), the game leaves a nice impression. But once you dwell on it a bit longer, then it becomes apparent how poor the narrative really is. Sometimes quality of that nature (or the lack thereof) just takes some time to sink in, and reviewers generally don't spend that kind of time with games.

Nah, Acts 3, 4 and 5 are a mess and the boss battles were disappointments until the end game. It's not just story related stuff that sucked.

If you say so. All I know is I still had a ton of fun throughout the whole thing (despite the obvious stupidity, like the whole Meryl/Johnny thing). I knew the story wasn't great, but I still loved playing the game itself. It was only after it stewed in my mind for a while that I settled on the fact that the story kind of leaves a bad taste in my mouth, the way it taints the canon with so much ridiculousness and all.

I expect it to be like any Metal Gear game after MGS1 with some loving it and some hating it. Some people couldn't get over Raiden being the main character, some hated all the camo stuff in 3 and some people hated a lot in 4. I'm quite amazed that series is still held in such high regard since people are so up and down on it.

One of the worst games ever? I can get behind it being the worst 3D Zelda game but one of the worst games ever is exaggerating big time. I found it quite disappointing but I find a bad Zelda game is still better then 75% of stuff released.

A bit like Final Fantasy in that regard, I guess.
