I doubt many people will be laughing if Konami comes out and says they were trolling everyone with that news.

Of course people would. If Konami and Kojima managed to pull off a joke that big and complex, you'd have to be a completely humorless dick to not laugh your ass off once the whole ruse was revealed.
Of course that's not the case anyway, since this all extends to bigger things like the stock market and gambling laws in Japan and all that shit. Konami isn't making a joke. But it'd be fucking hilarious all the same if that's what it ended up being.

I get people are still in awe of Konami's stupidity as of late, but that's the land of make believe. In a perfect universe Konami would be utilising their IPs very well, but this is the same Konami that released 3 Silent Hill games in the same month and released MGS HD on the same day as Call of Duty, having Team Silent disappear off the face of the planet (or just leave and either go freelance or join Toyama at Sony), pissing off their employees left and right, killing the Castlevania series, silently killing Goemon, outsourcing Rocket Knight, Silent Hill and Vandal Hearts to developers who did really mediocre work, took the best game "demo" ever made off the PSN, cancelled potentially the best horror game this generation and the same Konami that is firing Kojima and his team who made the company lots of money.

It's all wishful thinking.

We're in conspiracy theory territory here. No way a prank that elaborate would STILL be kept under wraps in today's age of technology. This would've been outed by now.

I think maybe if it was a couple days after making that announcement, or the same day then revealing it was a joke, then people would be like "oh... they are up to their old tricks again, HAD to have been kojimas idea". But after so much time and the emotions of fans and all the chatter about it has sunk in, I dont think any laughter would be had except by the few trolls that dont give a fuck about these game series anyway.

And I sure hope no one actually believes that this might be some kind of joke, even if it is wishful thinking cause I know many people are all "say it aint so" about alot of this. I think its just so perplexing that everyone really isnt sure how to react to this, like if its not a joke how the fuck do you explain all this crazy shit Konami? Cause it really does seem that ridiculous.

Some Kojima fans are outright NUTS and over analyze everything after MGS2.

You should read some of the stuff that was being spouted about MGS5. Like David Hayter secretly coming back and Keifer Sutherland playing BB is just a publicity stunt. Jesus, there's more. I just hope the game is playable at this year's E3 (unless they decide to pull it) and I wonder how many boos there will be at Konami's panel if there is one.

^^Actually, I wouldn't entirely count out the bit about David Hayter. Sure, it's most likely that he's not involved at all. It's most reasonable to just take the devs at their word, of course.
But what if, say, Sutherland is playing Big Boss... then near the end of the game, it goes forward in time and actually features Solid Snake again, voiced by Hayter?
It's not too "out there" an idea, I think. It'd be a cool surprise, and it's certainly the kind of thing Kojima wouldn't mind pulling.
I don't personally believe it all the same, but it's not really that ridiculous a notion.

But yeah, there will probably be a lot of booing at Konami this year. That's the gaming community for you.

That would be cool and the most believable, but people were thinking Hayter is secretly BB all this time. That totally undermines the point of utilizing the star power of Sutherland.

And yeah, I plan on bringing my camera to film this year's E3. I'll capture and and all boos and tomato throwing in all its 1080p glory.
