I would vastly prefer this to DL only through steam, especially if there was a LE version for my shelf.

Today's media update for Ys Celceta Sea of Trees includes new characters, locations and gameplay shots.

Characters: Ozma and Canlilica

Locations: Selray and Highland

Battle System

Celceta uses a new system called "Hirameki." As part of this system, when you face off against strong enemies, your character will automatically learn and use new skills on the spot. These skills are placed in your skill list and can later be set with your character.

In this screen, Adol learns "Sonic Slide."

These screens show character specific skills which use the SP that you build up by striking enemies.

Personal Actions

Personal actions are character-specific actions that you use on the fields. As you explore, you'll sometimes see a target circle on the map. Switch to the appropriate character and either press triangle or tap the screen, and you'll make that character perform a personal action.

Shown here, Carna's knife toss and Dulen's key open ability. Carna's knife toss can cut string bridges, opening up new paths. Duren's move can open treasure boxess

5 reasons Toal Fact is awesome(contains massive spoilers.)

5. The first dungeon in Ys is named after him
4. He uses claws, FUCKING CLAWS ARE COOL!
3. Can turn into a demon and talk to other demons
2. Takes all of the world's evil into his body and maintains his sanity
1. HE FUCKED A GODDESS!

Ys Origin is only 12$ on Steam during the big sale. (Oath in Felghana is also on sale)

Apparently its doing really well. Both games hit the top 5 a few times, hopefully this means Ys 6 and Tits are next.

I'd imagine Konami might be making Ys 6 a problem still Xseed has basically nailed down the names (like Luta, Reah and Toal as opposed to Loutha, Lair and Toar.) so it'd be interesting to see if any names get repeated in their version of 6.

Especially considering when playing as Toal they mention the ark a bunch of times and make a few more allusions to the race of winged people. Stuff in 6 might have just been named weird.

Xseeds mistake there is Ys fans at least a majority of them. Have Ys Origins on PC with English Patches. They physically own the game. Steam. Not so much. If Xseed put it on 3DS or PSV in a box. Might sell better. You know two on this forum who would only snatch it if it were in a box.

Man, that blurry filter is effin' ugly. I was hoping it just looked "meh" in screens, but it looks just as bad in motion. They should have left that out in favor of crisp, clean colors. The Vita is clearly powerful enough for it.
Maybe they should opt for a good cell-shaded look next time. That'd be perfect for Ys.

I'm left oddly underwhelmed looking at the gameplay, but it's neither here nor there; I'll obviously be getting the game anyway.
The weird thing about the Ys series, to me at least, is that it never initially looks amazing. I think the series' consistent lack of true popularity abroad of Japan can be attributed to that.
But once you actually get your hands on it, things totally turn around. The games always feel amazing.
Still disappointed in the different art style the series has taken on, but eh. I'll live.

Man, that's just bad.
It reminds me (in those pics at least) of when you see a PS1 game running on a PC emulator, with the textures all smoothed out and blurred together. That's a slight exaggeration of course, but it's still just a really bad effect.
