It's true the series was never grounded to any sort of reality, but there's a point where you can only take so much crazy.

I'm the other way around, I feel kojima is at his best when he's going full on crazy. I'm not going to lie, I felt MGS4 probably didn't go far enough, in the ape shit bonkers department. Though I know that opinion runs contrary to the usual view that MGS4 needed to tone itself down. I actually think MGS2 is the most batshit MGS game, and I kind of love it for that.

I think that those last sequences in MGS2 still make me scratch my head

Yeah, i'm definitely on the other side of the fence. I like it best in MGS1 where the crazy and the realism of it all blended together seamlessly. It stood on the fine line of plausible and implausible, which made for a more dramatic experience.

Once the talking arms got introduced, I was just too distracted by all the little things Kojima put in there cause I felt he was trying way too hard to impress me with his insights on pop culture and his twists. I don't like it when they're putting up a grand show and putting lectures in there when all i'm asking for is a quality experience with traditional ups and downs. Snake Eater was definitely back to basics on alot of ways but really goofy enemies like "The Pain" almost ruined it. But the absurdity/realism aspects like The Boss, Shagohad, and Volgin were amazing.

Assuming it's someone we might know from the MG universe already, I'd say it's Frank Jaeger.

4 was killed by too many and too long cut scenes.

Most could have been cut in half if they had a decent editor. I mean it takes the characters something like 10 minutes to figure out Liquid is going to REX's hanger in 1 cut scene when I'm pretty sure every gamer figured it out in the first 20 seconds. Just dragged out for the sake of it most the time.

Kojima has a really bad habit of dragging on the obvious

Yep. Hell been a while since i played it but I'm pretty sure they mention Rex multiple times in that cut scene before one of them goes ''OH MY GOD!''
