From Software Would Like To Expand Their Lineup With More Japanese-Style Games

From Software have had successful titles with games like Dark Souls II recently, but president Hidetaka Miyazaki recently spoke to Famitsu about how they'd like to expand their lineup with more Japanese-style games. (Thanks, Game Jouhou)

During the interview, Miyazaki explained that there haven't been any significant changes in management policy since From Software has been acquired by Kadokawa, and they'll continue to develop, publish, and make things with From Software characteristics.

Miyazaki also mentioned that he doesn't have any collaboration titles in mind, regardless of the acquisition by Kadokawa, although he did think that the online talks of a possible Kantai Collection and Armored Core collaboration were pretty interesting.

“The steady flow of dark fantasy games and mecha are something we'd like to continue taking good care of,” says Miyazaki about From Software’s well known series in Dark Souls and Armored Core.

However, he also believes that their current lineup is a little limited, and would like to have more variety as possible, including titles that represent a Japanese style, similar to what we've seen in series such as Tenchu and Otogi.

Finally, when asked whether the Armored Core series will continue going on, he stated: “They’re titles we've continued working on for the past 11 years, so we'll continue taking good care of them.”

Miyazaki added: “There seems to be some talk about how I dislike the Armored Core series, but that is simply not true. Actually, I’d even like to direct a new title myself.”

Sweet stuff. I wonder if he actually dropped names like Tenchu and Otogi though, or if the writer of the article was just throwing those out there.
Honestly, those are exactly the two names I'd like to see out of From (or at least something like them) so that perked me up.

The bottom screen of my Nintendo DS is all messed up. It still technically works, in that it's responsive when I tap where things should be. I just can't see anything off the screen.

I'm helping my brother sell pretty much his entire video game collection on ebay. Wow it's a really weird feeling -- he's always been the video game guy. Growing up is weird -- different priorities and less time.

I'm sure that's how it seems at first, but take my word for it, he will look back in a few years time and stab himself in the throat for what he's just done.

He's keeping about ten that he's nostalgic about so there's no worry there. Also, he makes a pretty decent living so he can always buy back a game if he wants to play it (which I doubt will happen). He just never plays games anymore. The strange thing is, especially with RPG's, I'll keep a game that I think I'll play again and the truth of the matter is that it just sits on my shelf for ten years. With the way the online market is today, if you wanna play a game again, just go ahead and buy it again. At least that's the way I feel -- and the way my brother feels as well.

It's better being that way than it is just hoarding stuff. I really need to sell off my exceedingly large collection now myself. I pretty much play everything that I buy, no problem there, but it's just finding the time to sell it all off, which is just as time consuming as it is me playing some of them again.

I do tend to find that I enjoy going back to most of my favourite games though. There is the odd few that once they're played that's that. I generally wouldn't want to waste me time selling something only having to buy it back again, so I like to be sure first before I get rid of something. Getting my N64 games back was a bit of a pain in the rear, same especially goes for the CD-i. Now that has the most awkwardly difficult catalogue of games to buy back and the accessories like the game controllers are so damned rare. It's considered a POS by most people but I tell you, those games and accessories are so damned rare and some are really expensive. I was shocked to see that Link: Faces of Evil was so expensive. Thankfully I rebought it just before it became an internet sensation.

Rumors persist of Bioware working on a KOTOR 3, set a few years after 2. But I won't get my hopes up. Even if it's true, I'm unsure Bioware still has what it takes to make a third entry as majestic as the first.

People still have some kind of respect for bioware anymore? They died a while ago for me. Consider them an EA drone like all the other perfectly good devs that EA has "acquired".

Yes, EA has definitely soured the pot. Their spreadsheet for maximum profit calls for taking a developer's vision and warping it to be more "mainstream" and have more "mass appeal", often to the detriment of the game itself. But still, titles like the Mass Effect series and Dragon Age Origins give me hope. But then of course EA dumbs things down for that mass appeal like with Dragon Age 2, so I'm wary at the same time.

You totally should -- it's the one system that I've always wish I'd owned. It just oozes cool -- in a similar vein to the Genesis in cool and almost as cool as the Saturn.
