This generation of consolea just sucks.
There'should nothing going on for it.

The only thing you can say is that they integrated more social media to it. And that's barely something good.

Not only the graphics jump will keep being less prominent by each iteration, but even by that standard the consoles launched so behind in terms of hardware.

Last gen introduced motion controls, very integrated online, HD, digital games, and the graphics jump was noticeable from last gen.

The only things we've seen of vr are gimmicky stuff and the Hardware isn't capable of 4k.

The gap between consoles and pc got a lot wider while consoles were trying to imitate it, at least Nintendo is still trying their own thing.

Also how Sony did drop the ball so hard with the pro? They were ahead in terms of sales and tech, but they rushed a half cooked semi console that's underpowered for what it's supposed to be and that's even after ms announced a quite better version of their own console. Could they manage to pull something worse ??

Also with Scorpio and ps4 pro, how much time will they support it ? Because it's gonna be 4 years of the same generation when they'Ll be out (even Scorpio already it's outdated).

It was a business decision. Here's the ups and downs to making a powerful system, like the 360 back in 06.

Benefits:
-Powerful

Down Sides:
-higher AAA dev costs for 3rd party developers
-Runs super hot
-Prone to higher failure rates with costly replacements
-louder cooling
-bulkier casing
-So expensive M$/Sony take a massive loss just selling you the hardware.

Clearly they are in this to make money, not lose it. Taking massive losses on the hardware out of the gate is counter-intuitive to that goal. Having higher specs could be an advantage with courting consumers when the competition goes with lower specs, but it's no good (save for the consumer) if both sides are giving their all at great expense to their profits. Neither gains the advantage. The balance of power remains comparable. So instead they collude together and mutually agree to lower the bar relative to the effort they made last gen to ensure the balance of power remains the same but the profit margins for both are greater.

Suddenly you have Playstation 4 selling at $400 with a $60 loss to Sony. That's as opposed to the PS3 that sold for $499 and with a $306 loss to Sony, it cost Sony over $800 to make that thing. Additionally, because Microsoft agreed to lower their specs in tandem, neither side lost an advantage. You have the PS4 and Xbone roughly in the same league with each other as surely as the PS3 and 360 were in the same league, only they're far weaker relative to PC gaming specs and have far greater profit margins on account of lowering the bar. The goal isn't to get gamers the best hardware possible, it is to make the most money. In hindsight, the PS4 Pro is probably what the PS4 vanilla would have been had they kept the same business mentality. And That PS4 would have had a $300 loss to Sony instead of the $60 loss they ended up with for going low end.

What sense does it make to launch a higher spec console while yours is still the best in the market (and with Scorpio in the corner).

Even the selling point hasn't much ground in the market (vr and 4k), and it will struggle to achieve even that (4k for sure).

It doesn't make any sense (and you can see that consumers don't even know wtf to expect about the new console rehash).

Even then how much time will they support this dual generation: +3 years ? (Making it a 7/8 year generation). Are consumers willing to pay the price of a new console for up scaled versions of the games ? Or will they just wait for the real next generation ?

My guess is that developing a better custom gpu for consoles is so time consuming that it was on the drawing board with a target performance level and target date in mind a year ago with no idea when or even if Microsoft would be doing the same with a refresh or shipping the Next Box altogether. The Scorpio could have shipped this year with slightly lower specs for all Sony may have known when they conceived the Pro. If not that, then perhaps it was an attempt to court higher end console gamers that might want a Scorpio but could be tempted into committing to Sony now before they get any bright ideas of jumping ship. And if not that, then because they're a crazy Japanese company like Nintendo that defies all business logic for the sake of quirky internal business culture or politics.

I am one of those guys that thought that MS had a plan to make xbone different, the all online bullshit and the kinect as a core part of the experience, but they backtracked hard.

This gen doesn't offer much of anything (specially for a pc gamer), and third party exclusives seems more and more like a thing from the past.

I hope that someone actually makes cellphone gaming a real thing, just add real controls like nintendo or something.

The weareable technology might be interesting for AR, who knows, but I think I'm not the only one that thinks that the quality step up from last gen isn't really here.

Suda's Let It Die insta-released for free was a nice surprise. I'm really curious about that one. And while The Last of Us definitely stole the show, my personal highlight was Crash Bandicoot: N-Sane Trilogy and how beautiful it looks for a PS1 remaster.

Not sure why they're calling that Crash Bandicoot thing a remaster. Anyone who knows the difference could see that's a full-on remake. Everything recreated in an entirely different engine and all that. Pretty bad when even the people promoting this stuff don't know the difference.
Weirdly, I think I prefer the original graphics though. Something about the new graphics looks... off. Like it's just something fan-made with a team of about five guys. Maybe I just need to see something in-context, with the original voice acting and whatnot.
