This time...

Hehe, you know half of it I just wanted to see what you'd all say.
Despite there being obvious quality designs out there, it ends up being very subjective and I dislike many of the neo-baroque styles that permeate most of the JRPGs that have been posted here so heavily.
So it was half a joke to post something that was the central item in such a design-heavy game.

I like Mr ESC's use of colour in a pretty simple and retro-inspired design that combines stick figures (kinda like Echochrome's) with a mild characterization as a detective-type character, with his tie and fedora (hardly the game's style). Still, he oozes dynamism and slickness.

Nice. Leave it to you to post the most obscure, least obvious ones. Always wanted to play Exit.

Kain - Soul Reaver 1&2, Legacy of Kain: Defiance

I've always loved the LoK games, mostly because they have the single most creative and non-cliche vampire story I've ever come across. And Kain's design has always been exemplary of this, with his cloven feet, craggy skin, and almost reptilian appearance. I've always liked how his forehead and ears curls up into horns, and his hairline reaches down to his eyebrows. Just a great design, for an excellent character.

Raziel - Soul Reaver 1&2, Legacy of Kain: Defiance

Of course Raziel, the other star of the LoK series, looks awesome as well. He's essentially the burned, deformed corpse of a former vampire. The cloak covering up his lack of a lower jaw was always a great touch, and actually had a great application in gameplay. And the fact that he's almost all purple gives him a pretty striking, standout look, from a color standpoint. And the whited-out eyes with black around them is just such a 90s comicbook staple, and I do loves me some 90s comics.

Kept wondering when you were going to post them.
Always loved Raziel's design and when are we ever getting a new game?

No. 7 from Nier.

Definitely Giger inspired and very creepy.

Mr. X from RE2.

He was my first genuine scare (back in the day) in any game. The "man" was relentless and those cold, vacant eyes, his long jacket (a Tyrant with real fashion sense, lol) and that fact that he still has some features that resemble that of a human really made him stand out in comparison to the other Tyrant creatures from the series and made him all the more disturbing.

Looks similar to Skull kid and his puppets.

Anyway to my real choices.
K this post is little offbeat so forgive me.

True this is not really a character but I wish they would release this on DS. World of Goo has no real characters but some of the stages are more characters themselves, this one I always loved.

Then there is Glados from Portal where she was designed to look like a woman in bondage like a slave.

Kinda gives a hint why she went insane and hates and tortures humans.

I've always enjoyed the character designs in Bioshock from the different types of splicers to the big daddies and even dead eyed little sisters. My favourite however is the Big sister from Bioshock 2.

Image

Brilliant design, much more slender than its counterpart. Nothing too bulky and no unnecessary add ons. Except that little basket on its back for the little sisters which I think is a great touch.

Eh, that should be fine. "1 or 2 characters per post", right? Said nothing about variations on the design of a single character.

And I'm gonna guess (though it's probably wrong)... Solid Snake?

Alright, cool. I'll do it later on.

Correct! You are wrong ;-)

Yuki and Kimari from Grandia III and FFX.

Funny Lions were always my fave animal and once in art class spent a week or so on a drawing similar looking to Kimari, though he was not blue nor had a horn but was humanoid and had some similar details.

Yuki I just really like his design,I was not big on most character designs from the first two Grandia games but the 3rd really stepped it up.

Rosie from Valkyria Chronicles..

One tough chick. Always liked how even though her mickey mouse earbuds stick out of the tall grass when lying down, the guards never spot her..

Holy hell Orange, I've looked up that "Kazuma Kaneko" person you mentioned earlier on in the topic (since I was interested in the designs you put up by this person) and the artwork is amazing. Like, really, really good.

The Shin Megami Tensei series just got bumped up to the very top of my "games to buy" list now. Yes, I really am impressed with the artwork that damn much. I mean, just look at these batshit insane designs I found randomly on Google.
