Looking at its Launch titles i think the U will struggle in the UK for now. Seems most the titles are on XBox and PS[most the line up are ports] and its dearer than those consoles.

Not heard of any stores selling out yet and i just see them facing quite a battle the first few months over here.

If I were to get it I'd likely buy Zombi U and Epic Mickey 2 at launch, horrible line up though imho. Not so much launch as post launch...

Nintendo UK has confirmed to Eurogamer that the Wii U will be region locked.

That means you won't be able to import games from Japan or America and play them on your European Wii U. This was the case with 3DS, and this was the case with Wii.

Nintendo's confirmation followed translated revelation in Japanese magazine Famitsu: "What can be played on the Wii U is restricted by a region-lock feature; software not sold in the same region cannot be played."

PS3 is region free and i was hoping MS and Nintendo would follow them with their next console.

Like second hand sales, Nintendo in this case, wouldn't make any money either on imports. You could argue someone would buy a DS or Wii to play imported games as their only means but they don't make money on that front alone either generally speaking..

The annoying thing is you know you will get a few games not released out side Japan and Nintendo don't have the best rep for releasing games world wide. Look at how long the US had to wait for The Last Story as an example.

They had to goad Nintendo into releasing it, otherwise we never would have got it. Even then we just got the europeon version.

Region locking happens for 2 reasons, the first being exchange rates and product value. People from south america will come up to the US and buy a few hundred ps3 games and sell them back home and make a massive profit.

The other is control of digital sales. If I'm from canada and have a canadian account I can't just access the us store and buy us stuff. Letting people spend money across multiple regions is some dangerous shit and its difficult to promise protection when theres so many options.

console games and region locking is some massivly fucked up shit.
